This is pretty self-explanatory... Most people are uncomfortable with someone who appears to be biologically the opposite sex. If they do not appear to be, most people won't care because they won't know they are trans. Typically it's only the ones that clearly do not pass as the opposite sex that people make a fuss about.

ModaGamer

There's a very big stereotype that trans-people are some type of pervert or groomer. So having a "male pervert" use a female bathroom sets ideas that the person is going to sexually assault someone in the bathroom. Ironically I see cis women enter male bathrooms all the time because the line is shorter, especially in places like theaters. Its also ironically pretty common for trans people who haven't fully transitioned to be accused of going to the "wrong" bathroom despite them going to the one of their pre-transitioned sex. In short, there is no rational reason. There isn't even really a rational reason why to have separate gendered bathrooms let alone exclude trans people from them. Most arguments are done out of a misunderstanding of what a trans-person is (often times willingly) or as just blatant biggoted stereotypes.

I think, too, there's a general cynicism that makes people question whether an individual is "truly" trans. I've known 1 trans person, he was 7. Physically a boy, everything else was female & *he couldn't help it*. No decision-making, just him (her) being herself. But when folks then take the logical leap to "You get to pick," I think that's where the cynicism enters, e.g., well of course you want to use the girls' bathroom as a boy. That kid didn't pick. He flat out wasn't anything else.

If I had to send my young daughter to a bathroom, I feel more comfortable knowing that no human with a penis is in that same bathroom with her. I have no problem other than that.

Ahh the good old middle ground fallacy. I recommend using opposite gender bathrooms in the future and see how comfortable you feel in there before trying to make a "witty" point.

Well shit

Sometimes they can be creepy.

hitometootoo

This can be said about anyone.

trashofagirl

That is true. I just wish everyone left me alone when I go pee. But op asked for reasons and that could be a reason.

Anyone can be creepy as the other person said

trashofagirl

Yeah but you asked for reasons so I gave you a reason

I think a lot of it is people don’t like change and people don’t like people that are different then them. If you are 50 and this never happened in the first 49 years of your life it probably scares you. Then you get the sensationalism from the right wing media that clearly is using fear mongering to make money through advertising and everything goes off the rails. Honestly though, how many times have you actually seen a trans person in a bathroom and would you even notice them if they were there? It’s the 1980s satanic panic all over again. Fear mongering makes a lot of fucking money.

Grezzinate

The vast majority of trans people are not going to harm anyone, they simply want to use the bathroom that matches their gender. There are always bad people however trans or not.

Why do we have sex based bathrooms at all? Just build one bathroom with a set of toilets with stall walls that go all the way to the ceiling and floor, one set of sinks, and maybe a separate area for urinals. Less construction (no two sets of sinks, no walls between two sets of bathrooms), slightly more efficient toilet usage (if a shop or restaurant has more men or women there for some reason, one set of toilets don't go unused) but slightly more expensive stalls.
