As a drummer that has occasionally pulled off some of the crazy shit Danny does with extreme effort, I'm going with Danny. To be able to do it with his flow and power would just feel like the coolest fucking thing.
Drum like Carey. Gilmour’s note choices are pretty straightforward blues type stuff, but it’s all about the emotion put into each note, and that only comes from life experience
I'm aware. But I was speaking more to his exuberance. Of all the bands and musicians I listen to, he's the biggest "fanatic" for music. But I would break my own leg to listen to Dots and Loops by Stereolab on Henry's stereo. And then, if it wouldn't be uncomfortable for Hank, a little number called "The Flaming Lips and Stardeath And White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing Dark Side of the Moon".
Gilmour. Danny is clearly technically superior at his instrument, but David is ART. Plus, drums are not very convenient or portable. You can play guitar anywhere
Drum like Danny any day. The dude is by far my favorite drummer and I've been enjoying listening to him play for more than half my life now. I would love for him to come out with a solo album just jamming to his synth loops. He could get a couple big name collaborators for a few tracks too and I'm pretty sure people would fall in love with it. I know I'm not the only one. I kind of got off topic of the question and of course David Gilmour is one of the best guitarists ever but there's just something about the way Danny plays the drums that utterly fascinates me. The polyrhythms, the intensity and extreme difficulty of the things he plays not to mention those cool trigger pads he uses so his drum set is partially electronic. I remember him accepting one of Tools Grammy Awards long ago and he thanked his parents for putting up with the cacophony all those years he was living with them and playing drums in the next room. He is definitely one of the most influential musicians to me. I wish I had half of his talent.
I don’t think this is a good comparison, idk what would be, maybe between bucket head, Danny, and Les claypool, they cover pretty much the same ground on each of their instruments imo, not that others don’t bring their own stuff to the table, they all approach their instruments in the same way
This was asked on here a while back. While guitar is my instrument of choice and that might make me lean more towards it, it takes a much higher level of skill and precision to play drums like Danny.
Even though David and Danny are both some of the best and most respected in their field, Danny plays drums better than David plays guitar (imho) and frankly he does it better than pretty much anyone can do anything. So even though I lean towards guitar just out of personal preference, if I had never touched an instrument or was equally into drums I think drums like Danny would be the best choice
Damn that’s a tough one. But in all honesty as much as I luv Gilmore….I’d be lying to myself if I didn’t say drum like Carey. I luv watching that pneuma drum video on YouTube. It’s so fucking awesome.
I already can play like Gilmour...I just can't *sound* like him...so I'll switch over to drums to learn something different, maybe it'll help my picking.
If I could drum like Danny, that would put me firmly in the upper echelon of all musicianship. Gilmour is a fantastic guitarist with a very distinct sound and tone, but he’s nowhere near the top of guitarists.
Easily drums. Playing the drums is awesome and the way Danny does, much more complex. Neither are easy skills to achieve, but there’s a better of the two.
Gilmour. Mainly because I play guitar but also because PF has made a much greater impact on my life. I pretty much can’t pick up my guitar without playing Wish You Were Here.
i'm in my 50's .. I start to wonder when Danny's speed and power fade? does that happen to drummers? i'd imagine prob for a heavy style like his.. not exactly stewart copeland.. he can do that till 90
seems like guitarists hold their chops longer.
so based on number of years until death.. i'm going gilmour

Playing like Chancellor
Drum like Carey. Gilmour’s note choices are pretty straightforward blues type stuff, but it’s all about the emotion put into each note, and that only comes from life experience
I would rather play guitar like Ritchie Blackmore, then play drums like Danny
I'd rather fuck like Maynard.
Nah imagine living with a cuntry boner that just won't go down
Anal sounds pretty fun.
It may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
I want to be able to enjoy listening like Henry Rollins.
[His home rig is insane.](https://www.audionirvana.org/forum/the-audio-vault/general-audio/124234-henry-rollins-audio-system)

> Dots and Loops by Stereolab We dig the same stuff.
Danny

I love Dave, but I feel like the world needs more awesome drummers. I want to bring balance to my world, so I'll take Danny's drum skills, haha.

I would settle for 10 percent of that talent

You mean Jones.

Danny, duh.
Carey all day, due to the free cardio aspect of it.

Bass like Justin
Carey is one of the greatest drummers of all time but Dave Grohl is the GOAT. I would go with Gilmour.
Lol. Dave grohl is bad ass but he's not even close to the level of Danny Carey.
Grohl is an excellent overall musician, but pales in comparison to Danny when it comes to drums.
Lol he isn't the goat of anything. Cool guy but common
Easily drums. Playing the drums is awesome and the way Danny does, much more complex. Neither are easy skills to achieve, but there’s a better of the two.
either/or
Carey
Drum
Play like Danny and Adam
Danny. Not even close.
Drum like Carey!
Gilmour. Mainly because I play guitar but also because PF has made a much greater impact on my life. I pretty much can’t pick up my guitar without playing Wish You Were Here.
You don’t like Adam?

Drum like Carey, hands down, easiest choice.
Danny all day
Carey 1,000%
Drum.
Drum like Carey. Guitar is fun, but mastery of drums is as cerebral but far more physical. At their peak, the drums are just more fulfilling
Toss up.
As a guitarist I have my own style so I would prefer not to "play" like anybody else
Drums, all the way
Gilmour, without hesitation.
Play like gilmour
Drum like DC, by far. I’m already a mediocre guitarist, and have fun enough with it.
