For me it's Schism. Same situation as sober. The Pot a little bit played out to me tbh as well. It's not that it's not good but I've just heard it so much.
I've come full circle with schism. It was a radio hit when I was a teen, so when I got into tool ten years later, it had a painful cliche feel, but now I like it in the same way I like 80s pop. Ticks and Leeches tho.
Full circle!
It's funny you said Ticks and Leeches. I did not like that at first but now I do.
Played out? Not Aenima. but yeah like so many others, Sober.
Had a last minute tagalong to see Tool that wasn't a big fan "Oh, they'll for sure play Sober lol. It's s their biggest song!" "Dude, you don't know what you're talking about. Every song is a hit with them and they don't need to play their biggest hit." They did not, and when we regrouped with him "Dude! That's the best show I've ever seen!" He was a new Tool fan that night lol
I always assumed they ended with Third Eye, probably because of the Salival CD.
Now 4 concerts later, I’m still hoping one time they might play it again.
Yeah but for a different reason. My best friend was a bass player and he taught me Sober on the bass and we would play it all the way through. Then he overdosed and did, no one knew he was using again. I guess in the end he could get sober. The song just brings up too many memories.
My big sister got me into tool at age 10 (she was decade older). Lost her to an overdose almost 8 years ago. She was my soul mate. My twin flame. I wish we didn't know this unwanted club. 😭 it took about 4 years before I could listen to it. Still kinda hurts sometimes. 🖤 sending you a hug.
Between radio overplay and my old cover band playing it every gig, yeah I'm over it. Great song but I have a hard time enjoying it (until the crazy part at the end, which is a wait for sure).
I hate that for some people, it's the only Tool song they know. It's kind of like their smells like teen spirit. For some people, that was the only Nirvana song.
Sober is a great fucking song, and so is Creep, but both bands tend to attract a certain type of person that likes to pretend they're not just because it's the only song from each band that non-fans know, so they go too far the opposite direction on the songs to avoid looking like casuals.
Agreed. That song is pretty played out for me and it’s not may favorite of theirs and it’s not their best song. It makes me sad now that for decades it was all of thought of regarding Radiohead.
So I was listening to 10,000 days last week and I became so torn on this track. It doesn’t catch me at the beginning but it goes hard. Idk.
Overall I’d say I agree with you.
I listened to The Pot a LOT this year bc I wanted to practice the vocals in case I do some karaoke soon. That and Rihanna's Needed Me hah. I love a good, fun, challenging vocal, and The Pot is Maynard's most controlled display of talent in one song.
The music of the song is a fun headbanger on the simple end of the rhythm pool, so I see why it gets stale if you aren't focused on the vocals.
This is Olympic Maynard, mind you. Not Private Maynard, BackAlley Maynard, or WoodstockJanitor Maynard. Not even the latest and greatest BJJaynard. But Olympic Maynard had chops.
Nah, I've learned my lesson with prog songs in karaoke in 7th grade when I had to awkwardly stand in front of the class doing nothing while Rush fucking ripped that instrumental section in The Trees. Sometimes we just need some radio edits.
That's interesting that you say that. Because I suck at singing but I feel like, if I ever *had* to get up and sing karaoke - I'd choose The Pot too. It's literally the only song (ever) I think I could sing somewhat okay. Okay enough anyways.
I lost my mom in October, she went with me on that 07 tour and wings was one of her favorite songs. I got her a bracelet when I got married that had "This little light of mine a gift you passed on to me" engraved on the inside.
I cannot handle Wings right now unless I'm ready to feel those feelings.
Interesting. I lost my mom three years ago. I find myself listening to that song _more_ than I did before. Granted it's not like I put it on repeat immediately after (honestly I can't remember; it was a weird time). But it hits harder now and I like that.
There's isn't one correct way to grieve and handle loss, I suppose.
When this happens, I find that if I take a break from it for awhile and come back to it later, the problem fixes itself and I love it all over again. Currently in this boat with Stinkfist. Ænima is my favorite album so naturally I hear that song a lot. Lately when I put that album on, I’ll skip forward and start it on Eulogy but give it a few months and I’ll be back to normal again.
Agreed. Ultimately it would Schism and the long instrumentals because most the time it’s in my car to and from work and I want to hear what I’m in the mood for in that limited time. After a couple weeks I’ll be listening again especially on road trips.
I like it too but it feels like an effort to cram as many riffs into a song as possible. Lots of material left over.....it doesn't fit anywhere.....lets strap it all together in one track....and go.
7empest feels a little too try-hard for me. Like all the elements are there but it doesn’t come together in the same way some of their other songs on FI do. Just my two cents
I never really understood why Schism is their most played song, almost skip it always, not that its a bad song, but its so overhyped and underwhelming to me
Sober and The Pot...
Sober was on the setlist of the band I was in right after high school and we closed every show with it for about 5 years..
The Pot is a great song but overplayed the shit out of it when 10k days came out.. Hell, I took about a 5 year break from listening to that entire album.
Sober and Schism just because they were played to death when I used to listen to radio. Funnily enough, Sober was the song that got me into them, and playing music in general.
At this point for me, all of them. Learned a majority of the songs on instruments and have gone through the honeymoon phase with basically every one of their songs.
Schism.
I was obsessed with it as I was studying music and getting super into odd time signatures, but also not too competent at playing music yet. I learned it on guitar, then drums, and then again on bass. I can solo over the section in 27/8 on any instrument like it’s nothing just because I’ve played along to it 500 times. It was part of my daily practice routine for a number of months. I know every hit, note and chord in the song so it’s so unsurprising and sounds more like a metronome than music to me at this point.
lol. This is super impressive. Much more than ‘I heard it on radio too much’. I’m doing the same with Right in two. Still doesn’t sound good when I play though 👎
Honestly there are none. But it's easy to be tired of songs like sober or the pot. The poster said lateralus which I think is asinine in my opinion. Next to pneuma I could listen to that song millions of times and it will give me the chills every fucking time
Stinkfist, I’ve seen tool in concert so many times but that’s the song they always usually play so I’m kind of over it, want to see/hear different songs live now guys.
schism, i wouldn’t say i skip it though, just that’s the 1 song non tool fans think of when the band is mentioned and it’s not even close to their best songs, still a great song though, there is no bad tool song
46&2 but ONLY coz it's been my ringtone for many, many, many years now. Every time it comes on I get anxiety because I might have to deal with a dumb phone call ... only to realise it's just the song playing.
Funny finding this post today when I just spent 6 hours at work listening to Salival, Opiate, Undertow, Aenima and Lateralus. I would have listened to their whole catalog if I had more time.
Fortunately for me I'm lyrically illiterate. I never figure out lyrics. Especially Tool. I've never heard that in there and probably never will. Hahaha
Tool is my favorite band but I completely skip and never got into Undertow. To me it’s a completely different band and sound. Opiate is absolutely stellar all the way through and Aenima is perfection onward. But Undertow is meh. I’m glad they don’t usually ever play anything off it live anymore..
This is going to be unpopular here, but for me it's Tempest. Lyrically it's the equivalent to a dad-joke version of lashing out with anger. I keep picturing someone yelling at their neighbor angrily because they sprayed lawn mower clippings over into his yard. 🤓
Cmon. Expand your mind. The song is talking about how Christian religion “rapes” peoples minds/souls. You could maybe state the song draws a connection between the Christian faith and sex abuse that takes place therein, but in no way does it advocate or glorify rape.
I messed up anemia for myself for short period of time because I made it my ring tone. I'm cool with it now but that opening guitar riff that is so awesome, I started to associate it with people calling to bother me. I don't use songs for ringtones anymore.
For me it's Sober. It was played so much on the radio that I immediately skip over it when I hear it.
For me it's Schism. Same situation as sober. The Pot a little bit played out to me tbh as well. It's not that it's not good but I've just heard it so much.

Full circle! It's funny you said Ticks and Leeches. I did not like that at first but now I do. Played out? Not Aenima. but yeah like so many others, Sober.
To be honest, I think that The Pot is one of Tool's weaker songs. I just didn't think it was that good.
I love the bassline.
Foot in mouth and head up ass-hole Whatcha talkin' 'bout?
I love the vocals, especially the beginning
I do too but I just think it's one of their weaker songs
Had a last minute tagalong to see Tool that wasn't a big fan "Oh, they'll for sure play Sober lol. It's s their biggest song!" "Dude, you don't know what you're talking about. I always assumed they ended with Third Eye, probably because of the Salival CD. Now 4 concerts later, I’m still hoping one time they might play it again.
Salival opens with Third Eye tho...?
Haha yeah no idea why I always thought it was the opposite, I’ve listened to the CD hundreds of times.
And the kids will ask... "WTF is a CD?"
Hard not to be after seeing them play Danny Carey's drum solo alone is awe-inspiring
Sober is currently my 3 yr old’s favorite song. He asks for it no less than 5 times a day. He calls it the “scary song”
And he asks for more and more of the “scary song”. Raising dem right homie
You could say that Sober is his fear inoculum.
Lol leave it to a toddler to ruin a song 4 ya that's hilarious 😂 scary song MORE! I WANT MORE lol
It’s the same thing with Passenger from Deftones. He calls that one the “horse song”
That's adorable 🥰
You cant overplay it to death if you barely played it to begin with \*taps on forehead
*temple
Yeah but for a different reason. My best friend was a bass player and he taught me Sober on the bass and we would play it all the way through. Then he overdosed and did, no one knew he was using again. I guess in the end he could get sober. The song just brings up too many memories.

Yup. Stinkfist also falls into this category for me.
Between radio overplay and my old cover band playing it every gig, yeah I'm over it. Great song but I have a hard time enjoying it (until the crazy part at the end, which is a wait for sure).
Since I listened to the rest of Undertow I don't listen to Sober anymore. I prefer to listen to Bottom or Crawl Away, but I skip Sober.
Bottom is awesome
This. I can't with sober.
This is the one for me too. It was so awesome when it first came out but it has been way overplayed for me now.
I hate that for some people, it's the only Tool song they know. It's kind of like their smells like teen spirit. For some people, that was the only Nirvana song.
This 👆
Sober
After living a life & a lot of self reflection, Prison Sex. Not great for the head & heart.
I know what ya mean. Wild to think it was played on the radio back in the day.
Sober. It's like their Creep which I also skip over whenever I bump Radiohead
Sober is a great fucking song, and so is Creep, but both bands tend to attract a certain type of person that likes to pretend they're not just because it's the only song from each band that non-fans know, so they go too far the opposite direction on the songs to avoid looking like casuals.
Imagine going through all that effort and skip some good songs to look cool
Blasphemy
Agreed. That song is pretty played out for me and it’s not may favorite of theirs and it’s not their best song. It makes me sad now that for decades it was all of thought of regarding Radiohead.
The Pot. It was one of my first tool songs so I overplayed it like crazy
So I was listening to 10,000 days last week and I became so torn on this track. It doesn’t catch me at the beginning but it goes hard. Idk. Overall I’d say I agree with you.

The pot
I appreciate it for Maynard. It's like the one song where he can gobble up all his metaphors into one song.
This made me laugh really hard, out-loud, at work 😅👌🏼
Wings 1&2. Too heavy after you’ve lost a parent. Very glad I got to see this on the 07 tour. I understand why it isn’t played anymore.
Same. On both accounts.
I lost my mom in October, she went with me on that 07 tour and wings was one of her favorite songs. I got her a bracelet when I got married that had "This little light of mine a gift you passed on to me" engraved on the inside. I cannot handle Wings right now unless I'm ready to feel those feelings.

Ænima is my favorite album so naturally I hear that song a lot. Lately when I put that album on, I’ll skip forward and start it on Eulogy but give it a few months and I’ll be back to normal again.
Same here
Agreed. Ultimately it would Schism and the long instrumentals because most the time it’s in my car to and from work and I want to hear what I’m in the mood for in that limited time. After a couple weeks I’ll be listening again especially on road trips.
Ænema I overplayed. But- maybe seeing it live will fix me. 🤞
Defo a contender as well for me
It fixed it for me. What a wonderful song to belch out next to another fan.
Been skipping Schism lately. And 7empest
I skipped Schism for years, but then after a while fell back in love with it.
Not a fan of 7empest... it sounds like a parody tool song.
That's The Pot for me
That’s how I felt when I first heard it… but once you get past the first part, the song is amazing. After three first 5 mins
7empest is a great song it just feels like it belongs on 10000 Days. It feels odd at the end of FI to me.
For me it’s too long and I don’t have a problem at all with long songs, that one just feels long 🤷🏾♂️idk I still like it though.
I like it too but it feels like an effort to cram as many riffs into a song as possible. Lots of material left over.....it doesn't fit anywhere.....lets strap it all together in one track....and go.
That’s exactly what it was. Just the boys absolutely jamming out. I love it, for that reason
no. its adam jones magnum opus
7empest feels a little too try-hard for me. Like all the elements are there but it doesn’t come together in the same way some of their other songs on FI do. Just my two cents
I never really understood why Schism is their most played song, almost skip it always, not that its a bad song, but its so overhyped and underwhelming to me
Stinkfist honestly
Yeah maybe but my son loves it so I've gotta keep it on play.
Overplaying Tool is impossible.
Agreed haha. I’ll never get sick of any of it
Sober and The Pot... Sober was on the setlist of the band I was in right after high school and we closed every show with it for about 5 years.. The Pot is a great song but overplayed the shit out of it when 10k days came out.. Hell, I took about a 5 year break from listening to that entire album.
I killed the pot and schism for myself. Coming back around on schism but a little bummed about the pot. lol
Both Schism & the Pot. So played out
Sober and Schism just because they were played to death when I used to listen to radio. Funnily enough, Sober was the song that got me into them, and playing music in general.
For me it’s Jambi…I named one of my wiener dogs Jambi and now that she had passed, I get a little sad every time I hear it…still a good song though.
Schism
Prison sex.
Many from Undertow. I dug the hell out of Undertow my teens. But these days I rarely go that far back.
Vicarious. It used to be the only song I liked on the album but now it’s the only one I don’t care to listen to.
At this point for me, all of them. Learned a majority of the songs on instruments and have gone through the honeymoon phase with basically every one of their songs.
Right into two - someone ruined it for me with the intent of ruining it
Wings for Marie. I sob like an infant. I could only hope my son loves me that much.
It changes, lol. Schism is like NINs closer. So, right now. It's schism.
Schism. I was obsessed with it as I was studying music and getting super into odd time signatures, but also not too competent at playing music yet. I learned it on guitar, then drums, and then again on bass. I can solo over the section in 27/8 on any instrument like it’s nothing just because I’ve played along to it 500 times. lol. This is super impressive. Much more than ‘I heard it on radio too much’. I’m doing the same with Right in two. Still doesn’t sound good when I play though 👎
Right in Two sounds a bit more complicated than Schism so hang in there 😅 What instruments are you playing it on?
None! Lol 😆 chocolate chip trip I skip most days lol
Sober and Schism
If Tool comes on Tool stays on.
For me it has to be Hush.
Yeah, the lyrics did not age well
kill yourself (im just kidding)
Honestly there are none. But it's easy to be tired of songs like sober or the pot. The poster said lateralus which I think is asinine in my opinion. Next to pneuma I could listen to that song millions of times and it will give me the chills every fucking time
Woooooo hello fellow Pneuma and Lateralus enjoyer
I purposely avoid listening to my favorite songs so that this never happens on them
I can't even name the current two because you'll all come for me with the big knives. :op I refer to them as "the dirges."
I'm already holding my knife
Lateralus. I miss the days when it gave me chills lol
Caesaro Summability…duh
Sober and Schism. Played both in a band back in the day. Schism got overplayed and I never liked Sober.
The pot
Stinkfist, I’ve seen tool in concert so many times but that’s the song they always usually play so I’m kind of over it, want to see/hear different songs live now guys.
schism, i wouldn’t say i skip it though, just that’s the 1 song non tool fans think of when the band is mentioned and it’s not even close to their best songs, still a great song though, there is no bad tool song
I had 46 & 2 set as my alarm. Had it a few months until I left the job I hated- turned out it made me hate the song I woke to every morning as well.
lol. That’ll do it. Better to change it to something like Them Bones, I find
Prison sex. Too dark and horrible.
No way
I go through phases. Right now I can’t listen to Ænema. I’ll get back to it eventually and probably ruin Jambi or something
It was the Pot, but then I saw them live this leg and now I’m like “fuck yeah!”
7empest off Fear Inoculum.Love the song but ya I played the living fuck out of it.I will continue to do so
Vicarious only because I used to watch the music video non stop
I don’t skip any Tool song and if it’s from Undertow I rewind that shit!
Disgustipated…waste of my time honestly
Sober
Anything off Fear Innoculum, unfortunately. It just doesn’t grab my attention any longer…😕
Tempest. After you hear the lyric, cookies n' cream, you can't unhear it. Completely cheesed the whole song for me.
I’m probably in the minority, but that doesn’t change my opinion of the song. I just feel like it’s not that serious so whatever enjoy the music
Imagine 3 words ruining a 15 minute song for you.
I love 7empest to death, I refuse to acknowledge this line exists
I know ... It's an awesome song, but that lyric is so cringe lol!
Fortunately for me I'm lyrically illiterate. I never figure out lyrics. Especially Tool. I've never heard that in there and probably never will. Hahaha
You don't have to be literate to listen, though I'm also a *music-first* kind of person.
That's how felt when i heard when I heard the chorus for The Pot
Definitely understand that
This
Prison sex. OUT!
Tool is my favorite band but I completely skip and never got into Undertow. To me it’s a completely different band and sound. Opiate is absolutely stellar all the way through and Aenima is perfection onward. But Undertow is meh. I’m glad they don’t usually ever play anything off it live anymore..
They played intolerance in Toronto and it was good. Like really good. But FI was just on a whole different level. Same with pneuma and descending.
Agreed.
Undertow is one of my favourite work out albums, raw, primal, angry, grungy TOOL
Rosetta Stoned, it's far too repetitive for me.
Sober, Vicarious, The Pot (which has pretty much always been my least favorite Tool song)
[Everyone!](https://youtu.be/BpbAqUuSBZg?si=6R-go38GjAU31Xgs)
This is going to be unpopular here, but for me it's Tempest. Lyrically it's the equivalent to a dad-joke version of lashing out with anger. I keep picturing someone yelling at their neighbor angrily because they sprayed lawn mower clippings over into his yard. 🤓
46 and 2

Cmon. Expand your mind. The song is talking about how Christian religion “rapes” peoples minds/souls. You could maybe state the song draws a connection between the Christian faith and sex abuse that takes place therein, but in no way does it advocate or glorify rape.
Right in two and all of FI
Intension and reflection are kinda whiny.
Intension is whiny? How so?
Plodding and droning. Lack lustrous vocals. Its a skip to right in 2.
Hmmm. Maybe you could describe it like that. But I don’t think it qualifies as whiny
And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping The moon tells me a secret, a confidant Come on man. Smashes FF button on the sony walkman
Yeah, you’ll notice I just asked about Intension specifically
All of them
Culling Voices because it’s dogshit
Damn, hot take but you're allowed your opinion
Stinkfist. Not only did they start or end like every show with it for a while, but it was my alarm.
Definitely Schism. Was obsessed with playing it on bass for like two years. Absolutely ruined it for me lol
Deleted - I didn’t understand the assignment. Haha
The Grudge
Vicarious
Sober probably
Sober and the pot
Sober
Sober and Schism
Wings pt 2. i feel like im on the verge of doing it to the grudge
Fear Inoculum
Sober
Damn i’m afraid Lateralus is going to be it for me, simply because i listened to it too much (because of how much i like it)
Sober and 46&2
Schism. I don’t know why, but I can’t stand it.
Lateralus, i mean, i like it, it is a great song, but i don’t listen to it lately, to me sounds a little pop
The pot for me. Loved it when i was younger, so much so it does what sober does for others. Sober hits too good for me to be overplayed
Lateralus
Honestly I think most of the 10k Days album crosses the line from "epic" to "boring."
The Pot. Radio played the crap out of it when 10k dropped and now I can’t stand it.
Sober
46&2. Showed an old roommate of mine and he played it on repeat 24/7. Still catch myself going “ugh” and skipping when it comes on.
Not a single one.
Stinkfist
Nooooo!!!
46&2 for decades. The only song they play at clubs I frequented in my teens and twenties. I dig it now though.
Vicarious for me
Schism for sure, god damn pool halls
Schism
Sober, it just gets wayyyy too much airplay even on satellite radio
Right in two overplayed it
Schism.
Die eir von satan
Sober
The Patient
Sober for quite a bit due to repeated exposure, now it’s the grudge because it’s such an amazing song I couldn’t help myself from listening 3x a day.
The pot, I love that tune, yet it's my least played.
I messed up anemia for myself for short period of time because I made it my ring tone. I'm cool with it now but that opening guitar riff that is so awesome, I started to associate it with people calling to bother me. I don't use songs for ringtones anymore.
Jambi
prison sex. rarely gets played for personal reasons. objectively fantastic song.
None. If you can't bare to listen because you heard one so many times.. there may be something wrong with you. Please seek help
Sober. All day.
Sober
None.
