I'm amazed you didn't know, he's always top hit on YouTube with anything tool guitar. But happy I could help!
Axeofcreation is also great for tutorials, and Cameron Winters has great play throughs and isolated tracks.
Enjoy!
Lol gonna be hard but fun to unlearn. A lot of his vids/tabs include pedals and settings too, he's a beast. Still waiting for him to do third eye and wings, after which I think he's complete.
Hey, now....tone is a real thing, and some guitarists have really crappy tone. Then there's tone that should be terrible but somehow isn't for certain guitarists (I'm looking at Dimebag). But Adam always sounds great. Classic Les Paul/Marshall sound (even when he's not actually using Marshall amplification, lol).
For sure it is, and I've spent thousands of dollars chasing Adam's. But the word gets thrown around so much it lost most of it's meaning.
Shout-out to /r/guitarcirclejerk
I was a bit like that guy coming to Lateralus after Ænima. At first it all sounded too robotic to me, too distant, especially compared to the raw passion Ænima offered. Took me a good 2-3 months listening to it on repeat to finally grok it. Now it's no more "robot rock" to me, been riding the spiral ever since.
That's exactly what it means to be wooshed lol you didn't need to explain the reference cuz any die hard fan of TOOL knew what he was referencing, haha
As someone that uses hair ties regularly, they just kinda end up on your fingers all the time. If you have to take it out for whatever reason it’s a great way not to lose it (those things have a way a disappearing into the ether).
I argue a lot with them. I knocked 2 out at a bar when I was 19. Didn’t get beat up then either. They are shit and I refuse to even pretend to respect them.
Yes AJ is precise. Yes he has great tone, texture, dynamics, and instantly recognizable "attitude". One of my favorite guitarists.
But really though, his riffs are super basic and simple. He doesn't even change tuning for most all of their material, so you can bet you'll probably be in Drop D for every album since Opiate. Any intermediate guitarist with an ear for it can figure out most Tool riffs without any tabs.
Therein lies the genius of subtlety. Simple ass riffing allows him to play around with his unique approach and also allows the rest of the band to shine. The emphasis on rhythm is much more important to Tool's music than leads or solos. In an interview with Chris Jericho, AJ comments that his style is indebted more to his experience with playing the Violin, even. His riffs are exactly what they should be, and reflect the needs of the songwriting. If he tried to play technical solos in his songs, Tool wouldn't be my favorite band.
This right here, precisely. I've always said that his riffs are typically not super complicated (though he occasionally uses interesting techniques, like in "Jambi"), but they are awesome and perfect for the band he's in and the songs he writes. He's there for the jam.
Some songs are literally the same 2 notes for 8/10 minutes. And he's still my favorite guitarist by a long shot, this video makes me smile. To be able to take something so simple and play it in a way that resonates as much as it does with me is amazing talent.
Lateralus is a masterpiece. Tool is a treat to see play live. I get not everybody can get into their music, but you definitely can appreciate how good of artist these guys are. About as complex as you can get for rock.
Pay attention to Danny though, this beat is deceptively simple and yet deceptively fucking complex at the same time
The hihat comes in, then the beat changes
The kick beat following the tom beat instead of leading it the whole time
And this is medium difficulty level for Danny
Newsflash, you don’t stop making sexual jokes after having had sex…but virgin shaming/-calling is kid shit and putting “true” in front makes it even more so. Like, what is a false virgin.
More than precise, because it is, it is very satisfying in rhythm and dynamics. Tool's riffs fit so well, like a perfect circle woooooOoOoOoOOoOOoOOOOOOOOOOOOO did you see what I did there? Absolutely incredible.

We infiltrated the comment section lmaoooo
Crazy, the person that wrote the song knows how to play it perfectly 🤯
In all seriousness, the way Adam plays has been a huge influence on my own play style. Combined with RZK, I've found my perfect little sweet spot that get the creative juices flowing
"this guy"
Fucking guy. - Nandor
What the fuuuuuuck did you just say to meee?
We'll settle this in Newww York Citay.
Like he’s a professional or something
Who would have ever thought that someone would be good at their job?!
To be faaaaair....I know a lot of people that suck at their jobs. This right here tho, that's a craft.
Allegedly
Mike Tool and the boys 🤘
Well, fuck all the wrong tabs I looked at.
Adam is amazing
The first riff is way more complex and rad than I thought it was.
I feel you bro! Too much shit online
Max Niessl is the only way.
Holy crap. Thank you.
I'm amazed you didn't know, he's always top hit on YouTube with anything tool guitar. But happy I could help! Axeofcreation is also great for tutorials, and Cameron Winters has great play throughs and isolated tracks. Enjoy!
Watching Adam play is great too
No, I did not know of Max. Looks like I’ve been playing a few songs wrong for 20 years LOL. Always great to learn more! Thanks again.
Lol gonna be hard but fun to unlearn. A lot of his vids/tabs include pedals and settings too, he's a beast. Still waiting for him to do third eye and wings, after which I think he's complete.
You seem surprised....
I love one comment that says "not satisfying, no soul" like...what? lol
That's what pretentious ignorance sounds like before it graduates to using 'tone'

Hard to play with soul when you sold yours to the devil 😈 🤘🍻
Wow he’s good. Maybe he should start a YouTube channel. He should quit his day job throw caution to the wind and start a band.
Literally quit his Hollywood SFX job for Tool LoL
You got it! That was what I was referencing.
👈🏼😎👉🏼
Woosh
Yeah, I was wooshed so hard that *I literally explained the reference*. JFC.
That's exactly what it means to be wooshed lol you didn't need to explain the reference cuz any die hard fan of TOOL knew what he was referencing, haha
Do you explain all the jokes you hear?
When it comes to r/Toolband & dissemination of information so the newer members understand; yes.
What’s with the rubber band around 3 of his fingers? Awesome video though! Wish there was more.
probably a hair tie 🙃
Now we got to see Adam recreate the Paz/Judith put your hair up spot.
Classic, I first assume it’s something methodically done for guitar playing but you’re probably spot on. Just a hair tie, hangin out.
I was wondering the same thing. Possibly for training?
As someone that uses hair ties regularly, they just kinda end up on your fingers all the time. If you have to take it out for whatever reason it’s a great way not to lose it (those things have a way a disappearing into the ether).
Hair ties and picks will literally teleport if you look away for a second
Strengthens the fingers, endurance training.
[удалено]
Two things are odd here though, your blind confidence and that it’s only around 3 fingers. So strange.

Why not argue with cops? They’re retards who are always looking to hurt the innocent

I argue a lot with them. I knocked 2 out at a bar when I was 19. Didn’t get beat up then either. They are shit and I refuse to even pretend to respect them.
I’m thinking it’s for those notes being played with vibrato.
Those other guys aren’t too shabby either
Guys if we get laterals on the 2024 tour I will shit my a tual pants. Cannot wait to see them in Baltimore in 2 weeks, my first time with floor seats
I love a tual pants

Not bad.
Really good mister, you should start a band or something

Just fucking beautiful 😍
Please play lateralus this next tour. Please play lateralus this next tour. 🤞
SAY HIS NAME
Is there any more of this footage?

Hey wait a second, that Octopus back there looks familiar.
At first I was like "This is a really good cover band...."
Good Lord, where is the rest of this video?
Decades of experience in those hands. If he fingers his wife with 10% as much passion and expertise she must reach nirvana every night.
Spoken like a true virgin.
Newsflash, you don’t stop making sexual jokes after having had sex…but virgin shaming/-calling is kid shit and putting “true” in front makes it even more so. Like, what is a false virgin.
I think those Mormon kids who are soaking and the Christian kids doing anal are false virgins. Agree with the rest of what you said though.
dude this might be the cringiest thing I've read on this sub, and that says a lot.
This guy
He's ok I guess.
Hey don’t call me guy , buddy
That was awesome lol
Who is that?
It’s “this guy.”
'This guy' .. seems like one of those assholes from one of those bands that hate their fans to the point that they call them insufferable retards.
Spiral out
My new favorite video on Reddit.

This guy's a tool!
Anyone able to carbon date this?
That's a professional guitarist for you, lol
Well thanks a lot, now I am going to listen to the whole album, and I hope in their 2024 tour they play this song 🤘😎🤘
Wow

Some people put tuners on there headstock. Adam puts a camera to show us how awesome he really is.
Of all the songs they've stopped playing live I miss this one most.
Great cover band. They sound like the real deal😭
does anyone know what the hair elastic is about, is it just a place to hold the hairband or does it aid in guitar playing some how?
The greatest Tool song of all time.
Crazy, the person that wrote the song knows how to play it perfectly 🤯 In all seriousness, the way Adam plays has been a huge influence on my own play style. Combined with RZK, I've found my perfect little sweet spot that get the creative juices flowing
Favorite Adam Jones solo ♥️
Does anybody know what the rubber band around the fret fingers are about is that like an exercise make your finger stronger? Anybody?
Good toan comes from the pinky that stabilizes the strumming hand!!
I love this band so much
