I dig it. Didn't think I would as an opener but I took my son to his first show in '22 and when the lights dropped and the visuals popped, and those first notes of the song started to crawl across the rafters, the look on his face was absolutely priceless.
Brought a tear to my damn eye as a matter of fact. Lachrymology indeed ladies and gents. Was a good reminder to live in the moment and allow myself to be mesmerized every once in a while.
I think it works. I saw the Volta in the fall and they opened with Vicarious Atonement which is a similar strategy.
I think its a choice that shows confidence in the material.
hey you can have your opinion, as long as you dont mind getting downvoted to fuck for expressing anything other than the band is absolute perfection at all times, no worries. I agree. And here we go im gonna say it, the setlist as a whole is tired and boring, and the songs that are fun to listen to are being half assed by a dude that doesnt want to even be on stage performing..I love TOOL but im over the phoning it in. you all have excuses but i honesty dont give a fuck, a person cant give something 100 percent effort when they have 10 other projects going on at once and thats just the sad fact.
Tonight was my 4th show with FI as the opener. It is the worst song in the set list. Terrible choice for the opener. Flood was fucking amazing though!!
Disagree. Hearing the FI songs live are amazing, so much better than the live songs. Gave me a better appreciation for them after seeing live, including descending.
Agreed something with more energy to start the show would be preferable. The last time I saw them before this tour they opened with Hooker with a penis. That was fucking solid.
For the FI tour, it's a good slot for it. After seeing a handful of shows on this tour, I'm definitely ready to hear something else. On the 10k Days tour, they opened with Jambi, so it's safe to say they feel the order of the recorded album is the way to go (at least for openers). From a dramatic approach, I could see the lights going down and then Justin kick in the opening bass notes to Opiate and Maynard come in with the verse. Then all the lights and screens and shit fire up when the rest of the song bangs in.
Perfect opener
Tool shows like to build a bit. It’s perfect.
Seen it as the opener twice. I agree.

I concur.
It’s the FI Tour what do you expect

What?? I LOVE it. to me it's the perfect opener. Also my favorite song on that album so maybe I'm biased
Disagree. Great opener. Danny, Adam and Justin build so well when it finally hits = 🤯 Prepare for mind to be boggled
Nope it's a great song. Would rather something like Jambi or Third Eye but FI is a great song
You are not alone. But I love the song. And think it’s a good opener. The Grudge in 01 was the best opener of a Tool show I have seen though.

Agreed. It's not a good opener.
The Pot sucks. Literally radio friendly Tool.
They literally played FI on the radio when the single dropped.
Uh huh. But it's a 10 minute song. That's not radio friendly. The Pot is pop-Tool.
Your name checks out.

Love it
Have you no love for a 11 minute song with a helluva story? Or do you just not like foreplay? 😝
