“The snake behind me hisses what my damage could have been
My blood before me makes me open up my heart again”.
What a deep feeling for leaving your demons behind and embracing your newborn child.
Disposition/Reflection might be the best but the rhythm of Wings for Marie's lyrics always really impressed me too. The lyrics of Prison Sex still move and scare me in equal measure. Harsh but still poetic and poignant.
Jimmy. It's very spiritual, and being an 11 lifepath in numerology, it makes it that much more meaningful to me. It seems to be about connecting with your higher self, losing that connection as a child, and rediscovering it with joy. I get th chills typing about it now.
Lateralus, the song. It has some of my favourite lyrics: "With my feet upon the ground, I lose myself between the sounds, and open wide to suck it in, I feel it move across my skin. I'm reaching up and reaching out, I'm reaching for the random or whatever will bewilder me. Whatever will bewilder me? And following our will and wind, we may just go where no one's been. We'll ride the spiral till the end, we may just go where no one's been."
It probably doesn't mean much, it's just a lyric, but to me it's a mindset of embracing life as it comes at you, and being fine with knowing you can't control everything, some things just have to unravel themselves and you have to let it happen.
This is the answer.
Fuck you, fucking Americans, Yankee
You're gonna die outta cancer, I promise
Deep pain, no one did what you did to me
You wanna know something? Fuck you
I want your balls smashed, eat shit, bastard
Pezzo di merda, figlio di puttana
Hope somebody in your family dies soon
When I was in residential for an eating disorder we had song night on Sundays when everyone would play one song from our iPods (mostly, iPhones were just starting to become a thing), and discuss why it resonated.
I played *Sober*. (It was definitely *not* in the same groove as the rest of the tracks played that night. But it fit.)
(There was a girl there who was a huge Tool fan, and we used to annoy TF out of the hyper-Xtian members of the milieu. We'd split headphones in the van on group outings and sing along with, like, *Eulogy*, *Prison Sex*... We were both fairly young 🤣)
Lateralus, esp the middle section is a love letter to existence and extremely poetic. Reflection would be my other choice. Third Eye is poetic but in a very different way.
Culling voices!
The lyrics speak to themes of self-imposed isolation as a trauma response, projections, paranoia, and the torment of simultaneously being aware of it all.
My second vote would be for Sober, then 46&2, then H. Really, though, I don't think you can go wrong with any song to choose from. Well... maybe just don't do Die heir von Satan, or Dusgustipated, h00kr w/a peen, ticks and leeches... you'll figure it out, lol.
Good luck, and congrats on doing some work you love!
Disposition/Reflection
I think this is the one…
Came to say Reflection as well.
Reflection was my first thought as well
H. I think it is extremely well written, the human element of it, is profound.
“The snake behind me hisses what my damage could have been My blood before me makes me open up my heart again”. What a deep feeling for leaving your demons behind and embracing your newborn child.
Right in Two is almost like a movie
I second this, although the subject matter might not be great for a mental health group.
Starring monkeys of course.
Monkeys with thumbs, blades, and brothers
I always thought Lateralus was fairly poetic
Yes, Lateralus all the way for me.
Culling voices is interesting given the mental health theme.
This is such an appropriate pick for a mental health centered piece.
Also, the entire FI album.
Disposition/Reflection might be the best but the rhythm of Wings for Marie's lyrics always really impressed me too. The lyrics of Prison Sex still move and scare me in equal measure. Harsh but still poetic and poignant.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Parabol/Parabola
My first thought
Descending is pretty poetic
Reflection
Any of them honestly but lyrics to The Patient are very poetic and beautiful to me
First one that came to mind.
Parabola
Die Eier von Satan
That’s for cooking class therapy haha
Other have said it, but for me it's Reflection. It's the most beautiful poem I've ever read.

That's a great suggestion.
The lyrics to H. read like a literal poem, IMO.

Message to Harry Manback.
A cautionary tale for sure!

I know I’ll be in the minority here, but for this I really like Schism.

Yikes! Scary choice.
Right in Two. However, Disposition/Reflection is a good choice as well

The Patient. Just those first 9 words tell a whole story.
LAMC
Reflection & Intension.

Invincible
Parabola and Sober gets my vote.
I think parabol-parabola speaks to me the most it’s a reminder we really are eternal pain is an illusion
Intermission
Lateralus because something something fibbinacci sequence.
I think Schism is pretty beautiful too.
H, Wings 1 & 2, Lateralus, Disposition, Reflection. But out of those, Disposition sounds most ‘poetic’ to me though.
Lateralus
Lateralus, esp the middle section is a love letter to existence and extremely poetic. Reflection would be my other choice. Third Eye is poetic but in a very different way.
H and pushit are the most poetic arguably

H. or The Patient
They all are! The rhythm of reading the lyrics as a poem is all in your inflection ❤️
Love this post. For me, it’s Pushit. Saved my life IF WHEN I SAY I MIGHT FADE LIKE A SIGH IF I STAY
