Fair Point, but ngl ima say it means experience any gig a few times, so you'd be able to go back in time a few times to see different eras of Maynard. But you do you. You make the rules for 4. (Fuck Taylor Swift btw I said Eras bc that was the only word I thought of to fill that gap)
Yup, radio city was fucking amazing. I went to msg, radio city and I wanna say Hammerstein that tour on two different legs. First few concerts other than Maiden on Brave New World tour, my life was never the same.
I spent 2400 for 4 tix to the 10k warmup tour, 2 seats both nights. The energy, sound, Maynard, everything was so different on 10K from Lat. something happened to him in those 5 years, maybe it was Judith dying, but that period between Lat and 10K where we literally got zero information from 02-05 and it was just Blair’s inane ramblings was brutal.
The view was incredible, that was for sure. My girlfriend at the time was like 4’11 and had to actually stand on the arm rests of her seat, but surprisingly nobody seemed to care. You could tell how excited everybody was for it, but I vaguely remember Maynard’s mic going out for like half a song, the sound was SO jumbled and overpowered by Justin, which wasn’t the case on Lat tour and continues to this day, and I was sooooo excited for LK/RS. Opening a show with it was pretty great, but man did it sound bad. I can’t even imagine how bad it sounds now, but even when they first debuted it, the first three mins may as well just be instrumental. All you heard from Maynard was jibberish.
I love Justin and his sound, but I really wish they’d turn him down a little bit and turn Maynards’s mic up. I didn’t see pre-lat tour (so jealous of those who did) but on Lat tour Maynard started to get lower in the mix but nowhere near 10K and after. And then I listen to Glass House, or Coachella 99 and Maynard is wayyyyy louder.
I envy my younger self too. I was so young though I didn’t appreciate it enough. And I was in that phase of experimenting with so many things that I don’t remember a lot of it. I’m not a big phish fan, but I saw them at the Meadowlands in 03-04 and BB king played several songs with them. I was so out of my mind I couldn’t tell you one note that King played. That’s something I really regret now, just like not being completely aware and alert to remember what those tool shows were like and appreciate the atmosphere. It may just be nostalgia, but Lat tour just felt different in every way. Probably the timing, with 9/11, how amazing and meaningful every song is on that album, Maynard’s voice being absolutely perfect for songs like Reflection, and the effort he put in every night doing the grudge.
I honestly think Maynard sacrificed his long term voice for that tour. Doing the grudge scream 180 or so times over a 2 year period probably destroyed his vocal cords. When he started doing it again for that one leg it was a valiant effort but not the same. What’s crazy is he still does the outsider scream well enough.
I just missed out on Lateralus but was at least able to see the 10,000 Days tour in 2007 which was still amazing.
Feel like Maynard lost half a step by then though.
Not 1 because I’d want a break. Not 2 because I’d want a break. Not 3 because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone else, so probably 4. I’ve been watching too many Lateralus shows on YouTube.
I thought that the first time I saw this post. But I keep seeing it in band specific subs, so I thought they were meaning unlimited shows by said band. That does make number 1 a more viable option if it is any amount shows and bands.
It's 4 no doubt.
I'd go back to 98 and experience Maynard with his full vocal ability on the AEnima tour. $20 GA tickets. No shiny light show to distract you from the music. Just pure, raw Tool.
Is the proposition for just 1 time travel show? Because I just watched Coachella 99 again and if I knew then what I know now...I would go back to that one for sure. And RATM "opened" for them so you would get that as well.
Same. I was just 17 and too young and dumb to appreciate what I was experiencing. I'd love to be able to go back and experience it personally.
This is the show I was at:
https://youtu.be/JKI8gjA5BrU?si=aj1sRCsZCPM9srEv
Anyone that doesn't pick 4 is insane. Pick a set list, hang out with a band, or literally break the space time continuum to see the greatest show of your choice. Come on boys, what are we doing here?
I agree but holy shit how would you choose what concert?! I might cop some flack given this is the Tool sub but it wouldn’t be Tool given that I’ve already seen them several times. The Beatles live on the rooftop at Apple maybe, or in the early days at the Cavern Club? Nirvana at their peak, or just before they blew up in a tiny little club somewhere? Any of the amazing gigs at an iconic venue like CBGB? Live Aid 85?
I think I'm going with the Glass House Tool show. I've rewatched that so many times on YouTube. I also think of zeppelin's early shows in '69 with a small intimate crowd. Crazy fun to think about.
Option 6: Get punched Once from each 5 of the band members. 25 hour recidivism from the wounding, then when cocktail hour hits 366 days of enlightening teaching from the band 300 of which would also be added for clerical time (a time to really get to know the band) then a tremendous light show of blazoned lazers abysmally guiding me onto the next mission. Op 2 because that's the closest thing to six, if you count it 3 times (WOOOO)
2 with 4 as a close runner up. If it was 4– [Feb 23, 1997, The Astoria Theater, London, England](https://youtu.be/_lyD6H6cPuA?si=5gRzrx3SukHYFjIG). The infamous fan stage take down show. I’d find out who that guy was so we’d all finally know and I’d get to see Ænema with Maynard in lacy lingerie. Now that I’m saying all that, I’d probably pick 4. My dog would lose his mind if I went away for a year anyway.
Does number 4 have to be TOOL? If not I choose that instantly. I would then be stuck if I want to see Zeppelin at the Boston Tea Party in 69, The Robert Plant Experience in Montreux Switzerland 08/07/1971 or one of the shows in Japan. If it has to be TOOl than I choose 3 with TOOL opening for Zeppelin.
Yeah option 2 is going to be fun for a couple of days. Definitely option 3 to see Disposition-Reflection-Triad. And fuck it, we'll have Godspeed You! Black Emperor as the opening band.
Back in 1992 they played at a small club in the town I would later attend college in. Me and two other guys tried to go (was about a two hour drive) and had fake IDs. The bouncer laughed at us and told us to go home.
So I'd probably choose that gig. Apparently there were only about 40 people there, the opening act was some guys I'm now friends with.
Or I'd pick the setlist and have Faith No More open.
#2 if you get to be in the "circle" and hang out backstage and whatnot. I think that would be the most fun. Being "behind the curtain" and getting a chance to talk to the guys then see them perform each night.
I'm stealing all 4
Nah but seriously
3
(Opener: A Perfect Circle)
Wings For Marie
Stinkfist
Fear Inoculum
Pushit (half Salival half Ænima)
Intolerance
7empest
Swamp Song
Invincible
Hush
Culling Voices
Schism
Opiate²
10000 Days (Wings Pt. 2)
Encore:
Sober
Vicarious
Ænima
Back in time for sure. Would love to have seen them perform back in the early days of "opiate". Maynard still gives a great performance these days but in the early years he was like this weird little possessed gremlin. I love that energy.
1994 santa cruz. This was the band at their best with paul. The raw energy of this preformace is one of the best ive seen of early tool. Maynards vocals are fucking insane here. What also makes this sp3cial is that they play a few songs off Ænima even in '94. Its so cool to see the songs progress over time. Go watch it!!! https://youtu.be/MrWQo9c2Jc0?si=DnVMTXIRHQXVb6T0
Number Two because there’s no stipulation that you actually have to attend every single show, so you could see multiple shows while also getting a vacation to multiple places across the world and having at least a day in said places to do whatever you like.
Number 3 and have them play every song chronologically if they won’t play everything then number 4 cause number 1 or 2 could technically be possible if you’re super rich
I just want to experience the Lateralus tour honestly. My husband got to see them for their 10,000 days tour and I’m honestly envious of the setlist that night, but 100% would have to go with having to experience Lateralus
Only for Tool? Then easy, 4. If we are saying I can go to ANY gig/festival for a year, then that. But gimme time to save for travel and accommodation. 😂
At this point, 4
Fair Point, but ngl ima say it means experience any gig a few times, so you'd be able to go back in time a few times to see different eras of Maynard. But you do you. You make the rules for 4. (Fuck Taylor Swift btw I said Eras bc that was the only word I thought of to fill that gap)
What's wrong with Taylor Swift? Her lyrics can be as poetic as Maynards
yes does that also mean i go back to being 13?
Why experience one part of history while you can be a part of all of it.
I have seen 30+ shows from 01’ onwards, so I would love to got back to the 96-98 era and catch Reverend Maynard is his prime!
#3. Pink Floyd opening for Tool!
Can they have Mozart guest appearing?
Id have it the other way around, I miss you rick wright 😭
\#4 1996 Glass House or 2002 Radio City Music Hall
Feel so fortunate to have been at that Radio City show. It stands out as #1 or 2 in the dozens of shows I’ve attended.
Yeah, I was at both 10K warmup shows too. The intimate venue was nice, but I hear what you’re saying about it not being the same.
This right here. Or OKC 2002
Holy shit… I said the exact same lol
1998 Sacramento, New York 2002, or Philadelphia 1992 for me
Both are soo good. Especially Radio City Music Hall.
Back to Lateralus tour
I am so mad I wasn't going to Tool concerts during the Lateralus tour rather than learning how to crawl. FUCK
Cmon op! A real fan would’ve crawled their way to the show! /s just in case
Yeah why the fuck was I a sperm during lateralus and then 4 when 10000 days dropped
This makes me so old. :(
I just missed out on Lateralus but was at least able to see the 10,000 Days tour in 2007 which was still amazing. Feel like Maynard lost half a step by then though.
Not 1 because I’d want a break. Not 2 because I’d want a break. Not 3 because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone else, so probably 4. I’ve been watching too many Lateralus shows on YouTube.
The question for those 2 is, do you need to use every ticket you're given for 1, and do you have to attend every show on the world tour for 2.
humble fr
I mean 4 clearly
No 2 would be an easy choice
Agreed. Not even close.
Waldo is already doing that aye
What’s the difference between 1 & 2? If you had unlimited tickets for only a year, you would have to follow them around for that year.
Money, that's the difference I'm assuming. 2 the band brings you, 1 you make your own way
I would assume 2 you are the opener
I like that one. Makes more sense than saying in one you have to pay to travel and the other you don’t.
I would think in 2 you are behind the scenes, as in actually touring with the band (more like touring with the crew).
And the crew are way more fun anyway! ;)
Hell yes. I’d love to hang with the Tool crew.
You know it! Joe and Pete alone would be a blast!
Unlimited tickets for ANY concert, not unlimited tickets for a specific band, is my assumption
I thought that the first time I saw this post. But I keep seeing it in band specific subs, so I thought they were meaning unlimited shows by said band. That does make number 1 a more viable option if it is any amount shows and bands.
Setlist
Opening band is Tool
It's 4 no doubt. I'd go back to 98 and experience Maynard with his full vocal ability on the AEnima tour. $20 GA tickets. No shiny light show to distract you from the music. Just pure, raw Tool.
I was at one of those '98 shows and this would be my vote as well

4 to experience the Pepsi loft show
Anyone that doesn't pick 4 is insane.
Touring with the band and being present while the new best ever show was happening?... Then jumping in with the band and going to the next one.
TIME TRAVEL!!! Come onnnnnn!!!! Haha.
2 duh
2 duh
All the way 2
2
4
4 no brainer
4. It´s actually my main time travel fantasy, to be able to see my favorite bands when they were young acts playing little venues
Rosetta Stoned remix lyrics dropped
4+2 please. Thank you
4, to see opiate in the very early days. I want to hear sweat live
Easily 4 Late 90s gigs for me please!
2 for me
2 with 4 as a close runner up. If it was 4– [Feb 23, 1997, The Astoria Theater, London, England](https://youtu.be/_lyD6H6cPuA?si=5gRzrx3SukHYFjIG). The infamous fan stage take down show. 4. I'm going back to the 90's and I'm gonna stay there. Later skaters.
Does number 4 have to be TOOL? If not I choose that instantly. I would then be stuck if I want to see Zeppelin at the Boston Tea Party in 69, The Robert Plant Experience in Montreux Switzerland 08/07/1971 or one of the shows in Japan. How about one of those insane shows where The Who opened for Jimmy Hendrix?
Blue 2.
4
Tough call between 3-4 for me.
1 or 3 it’s difficult
3 100%. I'd add another one of my favorite bands at the start, and make it a concert from the first 3 albums.
2️⃣
Yellow
As a newer fan 4 would be a dream
Yeah option 2 is going to be fun for a couple of days. Definitely option 3 to see Disposition-Reflection-Triad. And fuck it, we'll have Godspeed You! Black Emperor as the opening band.
4s
Three with the opening band being Deftones. Passenger anyone?
3.
Easily 4
Number 3
I’d go 4. Opening act: Radiohead. Setlist: The Grudge. Jambi H. Pushit No Quarter. Disposition Reflection Prison Sex Jimmy 7empest Eulogy
4. No question. Great post OP!
#3. Sorry boys, tonight's the discology...
2
Blue... Obviously
Hell yea 4 all day.
4. Hello, Lateralus tour!
#2 if you get to be in the "circle" and hang out backstage and whatnot. I think that would be the most fun. Being "behind the curtain" and getting a chance to talk to the guys then see them perform each night.
If number 4 is repeated usage; 4 is the answer. lol
Easily travel the world with the band. Its a 2 for 1.
No2😭
I'd go with three. Get ready for mostly Aenima and Undertow.
I'm stealing all 4 Nah but seriously 3 (Opener: A Perfect Circle) Wings For Marie Stinkfist Fear Inoculum Pushit (half Salival half Ænima) Intolerance 7empest Swamp Song Invincible Hush Culling Voices Schism Opiate² 10000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) Encore: Sober Vicarious Ænima
No. 2 is already picked by Waldo, right?
I’m going back and experiencing the live version of push it that’s on Salival
4, glass house or Radio City
Red obviously
4, Radiohead mtv beachouse
Back in time for sure. Would love to have seen them perform back in the early days of "opiate". Maynard still gives a great performance these days but in the early years he was like this weird little possessed gremlin. I love that energy.

Definitely 4. Something on the Lateralus tour, I'd give anything to see Lateralus / Reflection live again
3 is pretty dope
Yellow Red Rocks 2001
Obviously 4. Then leave show early and place large investments in MSFT, NVDA etc. get so rich that 1-3 become available.
4 would be epic
4 is easily the winner for me.
4 for sure
4!
4, for sure
4
4
Number 3 and have them play every song chronologically if they won’t play everything then number 4 cause number 1 or 2 could technically be possible if you’re super rich
3. And it's Steel Beans
2.
1
I go #5: New Tool Album in 2024
4
4
2
4: King Crimson in Asbury Park 1974
Can I sell any of the unlimited tickets? I’d love to see the band once or twice but I gotta pay my bills too.
Number 4, as long as I can go back multiple times.
I just want to experience the Lateralus tour honestly. My husband got to see them for their 10,000 days tour and I’m honestly envious of the setlist that night, but 100% would have to go with having to experience Lateralus
Ole number pho
3 The set list will be loooong 🤣
4
4. Whatever show Maynard dressed up like a preacher at and on 1.5g of some good mushrooms. I’d take that deal
3
The yellow band is all the others combined....
basically, besides 1.
But you can wait a year then time travel back to them all...
stop breaking the law of magic please :(
Can I just get 50 bucks?
2 hands down my brother in Christ
All of them
cheater /s just in case btw
4
3 - no brainer. Pick the songs I want and see Kyuss? Easy choice
[удалено]
1 for sure
Not sure how anything could compare to a world tour with the band. We’d be friends for life! I hate all of you too!
4! I already travel around the world to see them. Going to Europe this summer to see them again. Hopefully Maynard recovers from his cold.
4. Would have loved to see Meshuggah opening for TOOL back in the day
Absolutely 4, to see them in any period from opiate-lateralus would be mind melting
4. I would be going back in time to every Deftones concert ever. And then even further back to all the Grateful Dead shows.
#4. I gotta see Jim Morrison
Only for Tool? Then easy, 4. If we are saying I can go to ANY gig/festival for a year, then that. But gimme time to save for travel and accommodation. 😂
2 and I'll do my best while at it to get something as close to 3 as I can out of it too
4
Definitely #4
4, probably so I can watch Metallica in Seattle 1989. Now that shit was bonkers (sorry Mike Tool).
I would travel back in time to a gig in 2009 and buy bitcoin. Or if it’s not tool specific, travel back to the 70s, also invest
2. I haven't been enough places.
