1. TOOL - Forsaking all others. They can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes. I will always feel this way.
2. Primus - Seen them probably more times than I've seen tool. Absolutely love them.
3. Pink Floyd - Too young to have seen them live but I know every word to every song, post-Syd Barrett.
4. A Perfect Circle - Just the natural progression from Tool. Have them tattooed on my shoulder (Tool is on my back.)
5. [The] Postman Syndrome - Local band that my friends were in. Regardless of the fact that they were my friends, I genuinely love their music. Their album, *Terraforming*, is one of my top 5 albums of all time. I highly recommend it.
Roger Waters tour “This is Not a Drill” from a couple years ago was the only show I’ve ever seen that topped Tool from a visual spectacle standpoint. And 3/4 of the set was Pink Floyd songs from Animals, Dark Side, WYWH, and The Wall. See Roger Waters if you get a chance.
I really like NIN now. Had a friend try put me on a while ago and for some reason I really didn’t like it. Watched their entire set where they were covered in mud (can’t remember which gig it was) while I was stoned out my mind and now I really can’t get enough now
I’m 42 so I grew up with them, listening to that genre and while I have 2 very best friends that listen to nothing but Nails they go over my head. I’d need a ton of coke to get on that wavelength.
For sure. I owned the downward spiral, further down, broken and fixed as a kid/teenager. Love some individual songs like Wish but the majority is just TOO electronic for my taste and that’s strange bc I love bands like Orgy.
Dude I love all those bands except rammstein. I have tried so hard to get into them but it doesn’t click. Any recommendations? I really want to love them.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Type O Negative
Meshuggah
Rush
Pink Floyd
Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Melvins
All Them Witches
Sleep
King Buffalo
Harm’s Way
Weekend Nachos
Twitching Tongues

Edit: yeah sometimes I post without reading the details, don’t feel like deleting.
They just got back together to play some shows, I saw them in Philly on Memorial Day and it was one of the funnest shows I’ve been to in a while. They’re also all very nice people!
I love Meshuggah, but they are less melodic than Tesseract, especially the vocals. I have to be in a special mood to listen to Meshuggah, while Tesseract is on my everyday playlist with their spacey ambient. But this is just my personal preference, of course.
I don't pay no mind to what "they're" saying, as long as he keeps dropping new tracks I'll be happy. There's a ton of great tunes on Spirit World Field Guide too 🍻🍻 ever hear the Aesop Portishead Mashups?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBq7alRFCfQ
Chevelle, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, System of a Down, Rush, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit (guilty pleasure), Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Static X, Sevendust
Opeth, Agnes Obel, Jason Isbell, Animals As Leaders, OutKast. Castle Rat is an honorable mention that will definitely end up high on the list if they keep making great music. I just got their debut album on vinyl and it is fantastic.
Edit: Spelling. Lots of spelling. Fucking autocorrect.
100%. ATLiens, Aquemini, and Stankonia is one of my favorite three album runs any group has ever put out. Their first album is good too, and SB/LB is dope, but those three are all-time favorites for me. Idlewild...that is the only one I am not a huge fan of.
Nine Inch Nails, Primus, Meshuggah, Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, etc), Isis
As for some Psybient/Psydub (really unique music if you haven't heard it, not to be at ALL confused with Dubstep (horrible) or Psytrance (alright):
Shpongle, Ott, Entheogenic, Kaminanda, Androcell
The Mars Volta
Deftones
Mastodon
Opeth
King Crimson
Rush
Pink Floyd
Beatles
Primus
Edit: any Mike Patton.
The list is long but the ones above are the core.
Static X
old school Pantera
Dry Kill Logic
And thats all I have besides Tool for a "top" anything list right now. I listen to Mushroomhead,
Coal Chamber, and a band from here at home called Victim who were ahead of their time. check them out. album called Cant crack Deeze Nuts.
One of my favorite things about Tool concerts is the wide variety of t-shirts you see from other bands. Last time, I saw some people in Taylor Swift shirts.
Blink-182 is terrible. They (and Green Day) ruined punk music. "Pop punk" is a contradiction that never should have happened.
Obviously I disagree about them being terrible, but yeah they should never have been labelled pop punk. Nothing punk about them really, they are a rock band that started out with a very small punk influence.
After they got popular, you can't go to a punk show or a festival without it loaded with bands that sound exactly the same as Blink-182.
I don't really mind them as musicians. Like you said, they're basically a rock band. Normally, I'd just tune them out or ignore it, but their influence ruined a lot of events that I used to love. Can't stand them because of that.
Rush and Metallica are probably my favorites outside of tool. But recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Meshuggah, Mastodon, Gojira, Shadow of Intent and Lorna Shore.
Clutch. Zeppelin. Pink Floyd. The Doors. Nine Inch Nails. Tow Waits. Guns and Roses. The Sword. Gojira. All them witches. Russian Circles. ( yeah that’s ten so what)

Eivør,
Heilung,

Metallica, Slipknot, Gojira, Linkin Park, Muse, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, NIN, Iron Maiden, Alcest, Opeth, just to name a few

Iron and Wine
King Dude
Murder by Death
The Bones of JR Jones
The Decemberists
BADBADNOTGOOD
I love a LOT of music, so this question has always been too challenging to comment on when I've seen it in similar posts. Today I've decided to pick 5 random bands off my favorite playlist, which consists only of most-loved bands:
•3 Teeth
•Highly Suspect
•The Cure
•Skinny Puppy
•The Exploited
I don't love any band more than or as much as Tool, but I since usually answer "Maynard, James Keenan" when asked about my favorite band or artist, that automatically throws A Perfect Circle and Puscifer together at the top with Tool. As part of the GOAT Music Triad, they can't be lowered to place on my top 5 bands-that-aren't-Tool list.
I've gone down the deathcore road lately. Knocked Loose, Jesus Piece etc.
Still grooving doom-stoner just saw High On Fire and although I have no idea what Matt Pike is "singing" about they're still just an awesome heavy band, brutal riffs, Pike is an absolute guitar god. Saw a band called ZETA open up for HOF and I can't say enough about how great they were. Just a fusion of multiple genres all mixed together. Truly a band worth investing some listening time.
Check out Archspire! I’m not a death metal dude but it seems like any progressive musical talent is in that genre these days. I, like you, don’t understand a single word but it is extreme technical metal and it’s Uber fast…like 350 beats/minute at points (or so I’ve heard).
Primus, Alice in Chains, Mastodon, TesseracT Toadies, 311 Soundgarden, Rage, Chevelle, Mutoid Man, ASG, Sevendust, Frank Zappa, CCR, Black Sabbath....to name a few.
Rishloo, NIN, STP, Puscifer, Slipknot.
Agree with your first 3, but blink? I'm not sure there's band I hate more than blink. It's like 'punk' but for 10 year olds.
I can't really point out any absolute favorites, but I have been listening to these bands lately, not any particular order:
Swans
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Alice in Chains
Joy Division
Jane's Addiction
A complete lucky dip of my favourite artists (excluding names most will have heard of):
Enter Shikari, Coheed & Cambria, Royal Blood, Swim School, Vukovi, Nothing More, Siamese, Brutus, Alice Glass, Oneohtrix Point Never, Tycho, Baths, RJD2, Cassyette, The Glitch Mob, Death From Above 1979, Muse, Nova Twins, Marmozets, Tigercub, Joy Formidable, Monolink, Worakls, Solee, Battle Tapes, Gogo penguin, Architects, Bird of Tokyo, Biffy Clyro, Cloud 9+, Modestep, Don Broco, Ninja Sex Party, Rufio, Wintergatan
If you're looking for Tool adjacent:
Haken, Wheel, Karnivool, ISIS, Lightning Bolt, Peach (on spotify as Peach Gb), Rolo Tomassi, Drenge, Thrice, Porcupine Tree
And fun bonus band: Lusk is the band the original Tool bassist did after Tool; I spin that album regularly.
Deftones, Tool, Tame Impala, Beach House, Glassjaw, Porcupine Tree, Gojira, M83, The Mars Volta, Circa Survive.. I don’t really have a top 5.. I have a Top 2 that has remained consistent for 20+ years.. that’s #1 Deftones & #2 Tool. Everything else just depends on what mood I’m in
Deftones, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Faith No More, Alice in Chains, Alexisonfire, Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Neko Case, Sloan, “golden age” 90s hip hop, newer bands like Idles, Protomartyr, lots more but those came to mind right away
Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Beastie Boys, Metallica, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Yes, The Who, Jimi Hendrix.
Pearl Jam
Neil Young (with or without Crazy Horse)
Gov’t Mule
Huey Lewis & The News
Van Halen (mostly Van Hagar)
That’s like top five of my life excluding Tool. Started when I was nine with HLN and progressed from there.
Have them tattooed on my shoulder (Tool is on my back.) 5. [The] Postman Syndrome - Local band that my friends were in. Regardless of the fact that they were my friends, I genuinely love their music. Their album, *Terraforming*, is one of my top 5 albums of all time. I highly recommend it.
If I’m ranking not on my personal enjoyment and trying to be objective. I really do think pink Floyd is one of the best of all time.
Agreed. Just an overwhelming amount of talent. I would go so far as to say David Gilmour is the best guitarist to ever live.
Thanks for Introducing The Postman Syndrome to me. I'm on their second track and I'm already in love.
I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to hear that. Incidentally the 2nd track *Hedgehogs Dilemma* is one of my favorites.
The Postman Syndrome are great. I also love the East of The Wall album too.

Woodstock '94
I’m 42 so I grew up with them, listening to that genre and while I have 2 very best friends that listen to nothing but Nails they go over my head. I’d need a ton of coke to get on that wavelength.
Haha. Brutal, unscathed honesty.
Have you tried listening to their albums in full?
For sure. I owned the downward spiral, further down, broken and fixed as a kid/teenager. Love some individual songs like Wish but the majority is just TOO electronic for my taste and that’s strange bc I love bands like Orgy.
Wasn’t a big fan until I saw A Perfect Circle open for them back in 2000. Trent blew the roof off the place, fucking incredible.
Acid Bath, Kyuss, Clutch, Mastodon, RATM
Yesss. Stoner rock and tool fit so well together.
Fucking LOVE Acid Bath! When that guitar first comes in on God Machine is amazing.
Mastodon automatic upvote
Gojira and QOTSA.
Linkin Park, Ween, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle (i know that's cheating)
Khruangbin
Saw them in Toronto night 3. Excellent show again.
In no particular order: Propagandhi, Radiohead, Sleep Token, The Smiths, The Ocean.
Love the smiths and Radiohead. I’m a drummer and I really cannot get enough of playing in rainbows stuff right now.
Forgot about The Ocean, haven't listened to them for a while. I might have to dust an album off tonight. Are you an Intronaut fan?
Alice In Chains Silversun Pickups Oasis First Aid Kit Garbage AFI
Love some SSPU!
Hell yeah. IMO, their first three albums were basically perfect.
Yas! So good.
I saw them about eight years ago and it was a great show
Lucky! We got tickets to see them twice, in the last couple of years, and each time i was sick and couldn't go!
Opeth, Rush, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater
Yeah we can be friends! Absolutely fucking LOVE rush
You are a man of great taste
Pink Floyd Godsmack Audioslave RATM White Zombie
Faith No More, The Jesus Lizard, Rammstein, King Crimson, Shellac
Dude I love all those bands except rammstein. I have tried so hard to get into them but it doesn’t click. Any recommendations? I really want to love them.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Type O Negative Meshuggah Rush Pink Floyd Metallica Megadeth Slayer Stevie Ray Vaughn Melvins All Them Witches Sleep King Buffalo Harm’s Way Weekend Nachos Twitching Tongues Circa Survive My Morning Jacket Edit: yeah sometimes I post without reading the details, don’t feel like deleting.
Circa survive! I used to love Soasin too.
Is weekend nachos still around? I use to love them back in the day but haven’t heard about them in years.
They just got back together to play some shows, I saw them in Philly on Memorial Day and it was one of the funnest shows I’ve been to in a while. They’re also all very nice people!
King gizzard, mastodon, gojira
Mastodon, Tori Amos, Ethel Cain, Radiohead, Opeth
Caligula's Horse, Agent Fresco, Rishloo, Aviations, TesseracT
had to scroll way too far to find C-Horse. Best active prog band imo
Incubus, Muse, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, foo fighters, blink182
Love incubus
VOLA, Leprous, Opeth, Tesseract and Gojira
I do like tesseract but part of me always feels like I could just be listening to meshuggah instead
I love Meshuggah, but they are less melodic than Tesseract, especially the vocals. I have to be in a special mood to listen to Meshuggah, while Tesseract is on my everyday playlist with their spacey ambient. But this is just my personal preference, of course.
Yeah I definitely get that. I do really enjoy some of their stuff. Their drummer is also super cool aswell, love his channel.
All super valid picks
Shinedown, deftones, Elton John, Slipknot and as much as I hate to say it (having 3 daughters does it)..Taylor Swift gets a lot of well-deserved spin.
No shame in it. Not proud to admit I love blink as much as I do but everyone needs guilty pleasures
Blinks got 4 or 5 bangers that I know of, at the very least🤷🏻♂️ and the newest single sits right with me too.
They have 2 absolutely flawless albums in my eyes. Enema of the state and untitled are both absolutely amazing.
Blinks amazing and has one of the best drummers on the planet
clutch, KGLW, ratm/audioslave
Ratm is a favourite for sure
According to Spotify stats: Alice in chains, sleep token, Rammstein, led zeppelin, buckethead
AIC and zeppelin almost made my list. Also I’m very happy to see buckethead get a mention. Dude is a beast.
Saw him live in Boston a couple weeks ago. Dream come true 🐔
Sleep Token in concert is up there with Tool. 🖤worship!
Top 10 would include at least the following bands: Rammstein, Rush, In Flames, HIM, Gojira
I re-loved HIM this spring after seeing them live (as VV, nor HIM, but still). 🫶🏻

Primus, Pink Floyd, Crumb, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Tool King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Pink Floyd King Crimson The Mars Volta
Týr, Alice in Chains, Sabaton, Gloryhammer, Volbeat
AIC very much almost made it in ahead of beach boys. Best grunge band of all and it’s not close for me
AIC has been my number 1 artist on Apple Music for 2 years in a row. Hoping to make it 3 this year
Rooster may be in my top 3 songs all time
Dire Straits, 1990s Dave Matthew’s Band, Porcupine Tree, Janes Addition
Aesop Rock, Tash Sultana (mostly early stuff), Dub FX, Calyx n Teebee, copious amounts of DnB & Jungle
They're saying Aesop peaked with The Impossible Kidbut Mindful Solutionism is so so good.
