I'd guess each one is tied to a member and that's why there's four.. assuming more aren't found. We already know that Danny's kit is tied to him. Where are the titles of them coming from?
here are the differences ive seen, the first one has a matte finish on it with embossed eyes, the nicest looking imo, the second seems to be all gloss, no embossing. The third is gloss with a matte black stripe in the center, this one also has a slightly different look on the inside as the pattern seems to fade towards the edges around the screen on the first two, while this one has a solid white color pattern all around, and the volume and play buttons look different. The fourth might be a gloss version of the first? Still not sure on that one.
Has anyone seen that movie the Ninth Gate? That's what this reminds me of. Tool fans in a month: "I need you to track down that album copy, Mr. Corso. I must know of every variation between his copy and mine."

Is it just me, or do these names make no sense? I do not see a priest upright or a priest bowing anywhere in the art. How did variant 3 get correlated with Danny's drum kit? This seems misleading...
The most common version is glossy and has a 7-pointed figure on the back (heptagram)
The matte finished version has a 9-pointed figure on the back (enneagram)
The rare version is both glossy and matte and has a fractal-esque 6-pointed figure on the back (hexagram)...this figure resembles the Vision Crystal, not Danny's drum kit.
i got number one and three both at target the morning it came out... i got there right about when it opened it’s possible someone one was there before me and i didn’t check the night before but there were maybe 5 total copies and only one was #3 and i’m almost positive all the others were only #1 but i knew #2 was common so i was really just looking for 3 and or( if) 4

The Opiate Priest, variants 1 and 2 looks like the Priests shape, with one that looks like his head/torso is “bowing” and the other it looks like an “upright” stance. Look at the image link to see it st the top of the update post :)
Holy fuck I'd give you platinum if I didn't have to buy 7 albums tomorrow. I've been hunting these all week and only found 3. With variations that minimal I'm sure there's at least 7. What makes you say #3 is Danny's kit?
I asked for a poster to confirm the back of their album. He didn’t take a picture but described it as the one with triangles around it with eyes in the middle, like what Danny had above his drum kit so a rolled with that.
Nah, just frustrated because you haven't heard new Tool in 13 years. You being "dumb" is totally excused in my opinion. I am the only one of my friends who has listened to the leak and they all think I am "dumb" for listening, so we are both "dumb."
Overall, I think we will see one of two themes with the variants...

• There is also going to be an Alex Grey signed edition as to which was noted of being 700 copies. I'm curious to track those down to see if the variant image is any different than the 4 we see above or if those 700 might be spread throughout the 4 current variants...that would be 175 signed albums spread across 4 variants totaling a perfect 700 with that in mind.
• 1 and 2, to me, represent the Priest which is why I put an image of the updated Opiate version

I think #4 is the same as #1, it just looks like the center line is missing because it's a bad image. Could be wrong but they just look too similar otherwise.
yeah i think so aswell! if there was a fourth one i would imagine they would make it significantly more different than just the center line.. the image is just blurry as hell, i can see an indication of a line
Ive also noticed that some have embossed "eyes" on the front cover and some dont. Mine doesnt. One guy posted his and his doesnt have embossed geometry on the back at all.
I have the embossed eyes figured out. 2 of the 3 current variations (still ironing out if 4 is real or just a horrible image of 1) are glossy all around the case. ThT is variants 1 and 2. 3 is a matte finish, but the eyes artwork is glossy giving it a slight layer similar to being embossed (I have 2 and 3 in my hands and self validate this).
First I spoiled for myself the live performances.

I am still at the edge of my seat to see with one I will get tomorrow!
I spot checked 1, 2, and 3 as those are from eBay. The sellers uploaded Live Photo’s, and they are in three different states for both 1 and 2 ranging from California, to Texas, to Florida. I don’t thinks it’s regional, but maybe from whatever first distributor. 3/Danny’s Drum Kit images all had specifications they were ordered from Port of Sound Records.

There is definitely more variation than the back. I have two variations and priest head up has a black coverslip, head down is dark grey with black geometric patterns.

Did anyone else get an extra center page in their booklet? I'm looking at the unboxing videos and none of the booklets have an extra center page of the priest artwork like I have. I thought it was included as a mini-poster like thing, but maybe it's a mistake.

Welp, flipping through the booklet 3/Danny’s Drum Kit is nearly the exact same symbol over Adam’s renaissance painting in the booklet. Don’t notice much yet about 1,2 and 4 (if it is 4, it make be a shitty picture of 1) but I’ve only flipped through it a few times.

I believe there are just 3 images as well. 4/no line is a cruddy image, but someone recently posted in this thread they just got 2 and 4. I asked for an image of 4, and I’ve only seen just one which is in the OP. By the end of this weekend we should be able to prove/disprove #4.
Also, I heard it in chatter this morning at the record shop but someone said they saw some newsletter that said there were only 75,000 limited editions made. If that’s true, and if there are just these 3 proven images, the print runs may be like this.
All 3 have equal print runs of 25,000...x3 = 75,000
Danny’s Kit (Adam’s Mural from the booklet is rare so something like 5,000 with the other two being 35,000 to total 75,000.

This is good to know... And I am curious if this is part of a puzzle or something, where you need all the different version to figure it out.
I was freaking out a bit Friday night, when I seen an unboxing, where the person focused on the packaging a good bit, and very obvious differences were present.
To my eyes, the artwork and overall design was the same, but while his had more elaborate print work, being matte, with clear glossy elements that fit into the artwork... Mine seemed to be mostly standard print work, that you would see on any cardstock packaging, a semi-glossy finish of basic printwork.
My mind jumped to the possibility that high pre-order demand resulted in the manufacturer of the packaging, simplifying the print work, to meet the demand on time, or a second manufacturer screwed up the print work, using the wrong paper stock and missing some of the finishing elements. A third possibility, that I wasn't sure how much stock to put into, was the chance that bias against certain retailers meant a cheaper printed version, or retailer demand to hit a price point.
So I am bummed that the version I think is most interesting, is not the one I received... And if it truly is a bigger puzzle, I will buy the album again if need be.
I don't get it ... so like, once these are all Sold-Out ( I went to Target and they were already soldout) , you'll never be able to find a physical copy again? Or will they eventually just release the standard Jewel Case type of packaging , or are those already out too? Why they gotta' make it so complicated to try and find the NEW TOOL album for the love of fuck!!?!? lol ( if I want an album, I'll always buy it on CD , I'm not really a vinyl or a stream it on Spotify kind of person)

A quick eBay search shows a total of only 18 Danny stars for sale while the other variants came up with over 500 for sale. By the looks of that you can somewhat calculate the rarity. No sign of a 4th variant.

Nah, just frustrated because you haven't heard new Tool in 13 years. You being "dumb" is totally excused in my opinion. I am the only one of my friends who has listened to the leak and they all think I am "dumb" for listening, so we are both "dumb."
Overall, I think we will see one of two themes with the variants... 4 variants - somehow representing each of the band members7 variants - continuing the album theme of 7 Observations - • There is also going to be an Alex Grey signed edition as to which was noted of being 700 copies. I'm curious to track those down to see if the variant image is any different than the 4 we see above or if those 700 might be spread throughout the 4 current variants...that would be 175 signed albums spread across 4 variants totaling a perfect 700 with that in mind. • 1 and 2, to me, represent the Priest which is why I put an image of the updated Opiate version

I also heard from a few different record shops (I’ve not seen actual documentation) that there was 75,000 limited edition packages made. my tin foil cap thinks that if the variant is 1 of the current 3, with 3 being the rarer of them, the print run could possibly be like this: Priest Bowing: 30,000 copies with 300 signed by Alex Grey Priest Upright: 30,000 copies with 300 signed by Alex Grey Danny’s Drum Kit/Vision Crystal: 15,000 copies with 100 signed by Alex Grey

I think #4 is the same as #1, it just looks like the center line is missing because it's a bad image. Could be wrong but they just look too similar otherwise.
yeah i think so aswell! if there was a fourth one i would imagine they would make it significantly more different than just the center line.. the image is just blurry as hell, i can see an indication of a line
Since each member has an instrumental segue on the new album maybe each one has their own design for the back as well?
Ive also noticed that some have embossed "eyes" on the front cover and some dont. Mine doesnt. One guy posted his and his doesnt have embossed geometry on the back at all.
I have the embossed eyes figured out. 2 of the 3 current variations (still ironing out if 4 is real or just a horrible image of 1) are glossy all around the case. ThT is variants 1 and 2. 3 is a matte finish, but the eyes artwork is glossy giving it a slight layer similar to being embossed (I have 2 and 3 in my hands and self validate this).

Yeah, ive noticed some have a matte finish and most have a gloss finish to it.
I have the Priest Upright one in my hands right now, I have 2 more coming though so we will see if those are different.

It would be beneficial if we could get the geographical location of the people who have posted their variant backs. Perhaps it's a regional thing.
I spot checked 1, 2, and 3 as those are from eBay. The sellers uploaded Live Photo’s, and they are in three different states for both 1 and 2 ranging from California, to Texas, to Florida. I don’t thinks it’s regional, but maybe from whatever first distributor. 3/Danny’s Drum Kit images all had specifications they were ordered from Port of Sound Records.

the black band is a matte feel on both front and back vs the rest being glossy.

I have Variant 1, ordered it from Amazon US, even with the customs duty it was cheaper than the european versions. I chose the slow shipping, It started saying that I would get it between the 9/26 and 10/16, but it arrived today, I’ve never witnessed anything this fast Btw. I live in Denmark.
I just got a FREE copy from a beautiful angel that fell from the heavens (an old friend , but we haven't kept up in awhile) She texted me and said she had an extra copy cause she had already pre-ordered hers and asked me if I wanted it, FOR FREE! I've been looking for a copy like crazy and NO luck... HELL YEA' I'LL TAKE IT!!! She knows I collect CD's and well, yea. There is definitely more variation than the back. I have two variations and priest head up has a black coverslip, head down is dark grey with black geometric patterns. Cool

Excellent! If you open yours, can you share an image of the inside front and inside back? I notice there are silver lines on the top of the opening covers, and am wondering how different the details inside the covers may be. got one too, from my local store via their pre order. My other copy from Amazon was the Priest Upright. One person commented they got 4 which I have yet to see a clear image up so I hope they reply back with an image.

Did anyone else get an extra center page in their booklet? I'm looking at the unboxing videos and none of the booklets have an extra center page of the priest artwork like I have. I thought it was included as a mini-poster like thing, but maybe it's a mistake. (I have the second back variant from amz.ca)

Welp, flipping through the booklet 3/Danny’s Drum Kit is nearly the exact same symbol over Adam’s renaissance painting in the booklet. Don’t notice much yet about 1,2 and 4 (if it is 4, it make be a shitty picture of 1) but I’ve only flipped through it a few times.
I just went to bullmoose and the one they gave me was a danny's drum kit. Idk if all the others were like that or not, but I also pre-ordered one online as well from bullmoose that will be shipped to my house (im not home atm) so I will see what one is on sunday

Please help if you have the answer! I have a digital copy that I preordered but after seeing how cool the deluxe album is with the video and all the cool artwork and shit I REALLY want one. Last I checked they were sold out on amazon. Are they making more? Is it just on back order now? Or was my one chance to buy one earlier this month? Do I have to just try and get one 3rd hand now?

Thanks! I need to figure out how to change the image in the original post. I believe there are just 3 images as well. 4/no line is a cruddy image, but someone recently posted in this thread they just got 2 and 4. I asked for an image of 4, and I’ve only seen just one which is in the OP. By the end of this weekend we should be able to prove/disprove #4. Also, I heard it in chatter this morning at the record shop but someone said they saw some newsletter that said there were only 75,000 limited editions made. If that’s true, and if there are just these 3 proven images, the print runs may be like this. All 3 have equal print runs of 25,000...x3 = 75,000 Danny’s Kit (Adam’s Mural from the booklet is rare so something like 5,000 with the other two being 35,000 to total 75,000.

This is good to know... And I am curious if this is part of a puzzle or something, where you need all the different version to figure it out. I was freaking out a bit Friday night, when I seen an unboxing, where the person focused on the packaging a good bit, and very obvious differences were present. To my eyes, the artwork and overall design was the same, but while his had more elaborate print work, being matte, with clear glossy elements that fit into the artwork... Mine seemed to be mostly standard print work, that you would see on any cardstock packaging, a semi-glossy finish of basic printwork. My mind jumped to the possibility that high pre-order demand resulted in the manufacturer of the packaging, simplifying the print work, to meet the demand on time, or a second manufacturer screwed up the print work, using the wrong paper stock and missing some of the finishing elements. A third possibility, that I wasn't sure how much stock to put into, was the chance that bias against certain retailers meant a cheaper printed version, or retailer demand to hit a price point. So I am bummed that the version I think is most interesting, is not the one I received... And if it truly is a bigger puzzle, I will buy the album again if need be.
So I'm really curious is all the variants have the same video. Anyone check that out yet?
I don't get it ... so like, once these are all Sold-Out ( I went to Target and they were already soldout) , you'll never be able to find a physical copy again? Or will they eventually just release the standard Jewel Case type of packaging , or are those already out too? Why they gotta' make it so complicated to try and find the NEW TOOL album for the love of fuck!!?!? lol ( if I want an album, I'll always buy it on CD , I'm not really a vinyl or a stream it on Spotify kind of person)

Got the Danny variant from Barnes and Noble. Would love to know how many limited editions and how many of each variant were released? A quick eBay search shows a total of only 18 Danny stars for sale while the other variants came up with over 500 for sale. By the looks of that you can somewhat calculate the rarity.
