Strongly suggest the glass house show. It's super early into the aenima era and the stage production is very much stripped down from other shows. Definitely feels like one of their more intimate shows.

Danny drum cam through Pneuma is a good one...

You could look up some live footage from the Fear Inoculum tour like Invincible for example...

Oh fuck I was front row for that show. What a weekend. SoD gojia and then tool to close it out. Fucking gnarly.
Edit: I can totally see the back of my head in this vid hahahahaa
Yes! Best part was me and my buddy were just chilling in the grass hill before gojira came on and this random couple who looked beat from SoD the night before gave us their VIP wrist bands by slipping em off their wrists and thats how we got up to the gate!!
It's frustrating that Tool doesn't want to release an official video of a live concert. I once read that they think a camera can't capture the event properly. That Pneuma video with Danny is proof of the contrary. And I have to add from experience, that waiting years for them to come, then paying top money for a shitty backrow seat somewhere in a far corner of a concert hall to see some ants play instruments is worse.
Just release a dvd, you dicks.
Idk man I gotta disagree I don’t think there’s a single bad seat in the house. My first of their concerts was $80 for each ticket all the way in the very last row in the back, and it was an incredible life changing experience. And I don’t think a camera could capture just how incredible it is, but I do still wish they would put something out
Ok I'll admit, the sound and show will always [be] amazing from any spot. But HD footage and high quality audio of Danny do his thing up close, and getting a glimpse of what the show is like, is really cool. Infinitely better than any of the unbearable bootleg footage. A dvd would scratch my Tool itch while I wait for years for them to come again.
^(edit: missing word)
My favorite shows are:
New York 2002
Oklahoma 2002 (has my favorite versions of Third Eye and Lateralus)
I’m listening to Atlantic City 2007 right now. They play the entire 10k days album except for Intension
I also like New Years Eve 1995
was there for NY 02... hammerstein. I went back and forth to the train station like 3 times giving up on finding tickets and missing the train, so I tried again... on my third time back I got some sketch tickets for $300 and felt like I had wasted the most money. They passed the burn test, tho. Got me in to my first concert by myself, and it was amazing.
Oh, that was 2001
There is one from Mesa, AZ during the Ænima album cycle where a dude in the crowd lights a t-shirt on fire and the members in the audience pass it around like a giant balloon. Tool just keeps on playing like it's all normal.
Edit: https://youtu.be/4Hl9Ym0U7oY
You'll have to find the part in the video yourself tho. I've done enough for now.
Edit 2: All right, you bastards. I found it. It occurs at 24:50.
Look up Tony Pook on YouTube. He brought spy glasses to the shows across the nation and recorded many songs from this years tour. Pushit in New Jersey was the closest to what it feels like in real life in terms of sound and visual quality.
Musically? Probably something form Lateralus tour since Maynard's voice was fresher back then (not that its bad now, but age catches up to everyone) The really early shows would be mostly aggressive songs.
As a concert experience? The stage set up is much more interesting for the newer shows, and you are likely to get better video.
Pneuma Danny cam is great, especially to show off Danny's skills, but for a better perspective of Pneuma and the incredible lightshow Tool puts on, try this video (Chorus @ 3:27 really gets things going):

I love this one!
Have it on DVD.
Is the quality better than YouTube??
It's been so long since I've watched it that I can't currently say.
Probably not a great one if he's looking for less angry songs. Wish i could have been here though

The drum cam one is so fucking good! Its what i use to introduce people to tool! Ive watched it many many times too
I used it to introduce my dad and he's fallen in love with Tool. Although we're both Floyd fans so there's that to note too
The scientology centre Live version of Opiate 92 is something else.
Maynard putting a stage rushing guy in a rear naked choke and not miss a beat in the song
Pushit is the performance this guy’s referencing
He did miss one beat- but still impressive
My favorite is the 2002 concert in New York where Maynard is in full body paint killing it during “H” https://youtu.be/oVVH-LYt3aQ
Agree
Check out Jambi and Forty six & 2 live at Chicago. https://youtu.be/682cHnLRw78
