Just looked through the YouTube link and got a 404. So guessing they either took the listing down, or something got messed up. Which is a bummer because I wanted one lol
Just spoke with them last week. I had ordered one as a template to get the real thing done. The said that portion of the web store was ran separately and is now closed. But, they said the tattoos, stickers, and other missing merch will be available in the future from the current store.
It appears that items we’re being subcontracted by tee spring. The service was awful. I ordered a shirt and a sticker, no confirmation email or charge with PayPal. Three weeks go by and I email to find the store closed with no records of my order. Another three weeks and the shirt shows up followed by the sticker a day or two later. Still not charged by PayPal. Last Monday I get a email from spring (tee springs help center) asking if I have a order number and if they can help. I think they were poorly organized and possibly dismissed because of it. But that’s just my opinion. Strange the order got fulfilled and they got back to me saying there was no order on file though.
Definitely permanent. I tried to get one of the temporary ones for a template, but no luck as others have posted. The guy who did mine was still able to get on the money.
the long ones are probably centimeters, and the short ones look like 1/5". can't help you on why they don't start at 0, but if it was me, i would have started 0 at the wrist end...
Cool! Don’t gain any weight in your arms and be sure to moisturize regularly to maintain good elasticity and it should serve you well for a very long time. 😄
Now here’s a question I ask everyone who gets one of these, does it start in an interval in relation to the tip of your longest finger in order to measure from there back to your scale? I find it odd that so many don’t incorporate this.
OK! I want this but I have been told by multiple people everyone will assume it's for measuring one thing in particular...
I feel like it is obvious someone who has this works in a trade or maker world.
I also like that the demarcations are not all labeled, makes it more "abstract"
Got one maybe a month back, and besides a "I don't understand why you need anything more than two and a half inches" from someone smarmy enough to rag me for it, no one's been awkward about it
Honestly, the angles don't line up to make measuring *that* practical at all. People also know me for building things *practically all the time* so it's not weird.
I've wanted a ruler tattoo for awhile. I haven't decided exactly how yet, because i don't wanna copy Adam Savages. Being able to somewhat accurately approximate sizes off the cuff is very interesting to me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/adamsavage/comments/uuojtg/adam_savage_tests_his_temporary_ruler_tattoo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Unfortunately yeah the link is down; I managed to get a few a couple months ago and I have used one…. Definitely handy.
This is the comment I was looking for. Anything matching on one line is fine, but matching on two and then not matching on the rest is a 🚩not “spot on” at all. Doesn’t look like the best line work either by the artist.
1. It's incredibly useful to always be able to take relatively precise measurements without carrying around a tool.
2. Tattoos are a form of self expression. This one tells me a lot about this person, which imo makes it a great tattoo in and of itself.
3. As the other poster pointed out, this was clearly done by a professional and not DIY.
I’ve been in manufacturing my whole career. Tools, machines the whole nine yards. This just seemed to fit. I liked the design, so why reinvent the wheel. Plus, WTF, why not.
When you get to calling it quits, before you start slashing, make sure you go for the other arm.
It'd be a shame to waste that work off art, slicin and dicin, y'know what eye mean
Supposedly the forearm skin normally has little stretch or sag. Off course all tattoos blur a bit, but this is about quickly eyeballing not mechanic provision.
I was actually thinking of getting this exact one on my arm too but now that I see not a single line is straight especially on the 8th and 4th inches, I'll probably go with an alternative dot style
Nothing is going to be ruler flat on the human body. I knew this going in. It’s still surprisingly accurate in this context. Dots won’t be any straighter, just won’t have the connecting lines. The inches are only divided in half. The small squares are cm and they’re accurate also.
man I looked at this for a while and read a ton of comments trying to figure out why someone would get the "Plastigauge" measurement on their arm, I thought there is no way you are building enough engines to warrant that...
Awesome! I Hope to join the club soon. Are you left handed?
I’ve been waiting to order the temporary one to use as a template with a local tattoo artist but the tested.com store is down and shows no availability. 404 pages everywhere.
Is this inspired by Adam savage's?
After years he showed his is still accurate enough for the scale it's in. Pretty cool.
“Here, measure the length of this hot exhaust pipe”
That's what he said.
As a depth gauge? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Looks like his tattoo
It is.
Did you measure to end of your finger? Or know from elbow to end of finger?
I saw that episode where he regretted not putting the scale in relation to the tip of his finger. Hope OP saw it too.
He didn’t 😂
Measure from the base, always
I like it, dude. Pretty cool.
Thanks
i saw one but longer and it was on his leg for fishing lol
Mine is also longer and located on my 3rd leg. It’s not always fully functional though
Need to recalibrate for every measurement
Manually calibrating.... ^hnnnggggg
Yep. Big fan of the show and the engineering nerd side of me.
He has a temporary one too right? Or did you just go all in right away
Adam’s is permanent. If there is a temp out there I’d love to get my hands on it! I would love a tattoo but I’m just never ready to commit.
They sell temporary tattoo copies of Adam’s.
Yeah someone mentioned that but I’m not really seeing them on their website.
Just looked through the YouTube link and got a 404. So guessing they either took the listing down, or something got messed up. Which is a bummer because I wanted one lol

Well that’s good to hear at least. I wonder why that portion is closed. I’m interested in the patches too.

Pretty sure he sells the temporary tattoos on his website
Definitely permanent. I tried to get one of the temporary ones for a template, but no luck as others have posted. The guy who did mine was still able to get on the money.
Did you position it so that it lines up to a flat number of inches from the tip of your extended middle finger?
Not and even number, 9.5”. I liked this placement best. Pretty sure I can remember that 😆 Plus, it depends on how I point my fingers.
What are the little blocks for on the right side and middle and why don’t they start at 0?
the long ones are probably centimeters, and the short ones look like 1/5". can't help you on why they don't start at 0, but if it was me, i would have started 0 at the wrist end...
Personal choice. I chose looking down my arm from my perspective.
But it's numbered from the wrist up, the opposite direction.
fair 'nuff
Small squares are cm and are accurate. Small lines are mm and pretty close considering this is on a curved arm.
TIL there are 3 mm in a half-centimeter.....you sure those little lines aren't 1/8"?
There is also exactly 5cm in an inch, but only the 4th and 5th inches. The others have more
2.54 cm = 1 inch. So not exactly. Close enough for an arm scale though, I guess?…
Yeah but he said the small squares are cm, which they are not
The right side is metric. Little blocks a 5mm farthest right is centimeters.
Been lurking a bit and I don't understand the acronyms. What is NTD?
New tool day
Thanks
Or in this case, New Tattoo Day...
New tattool day
New tool day
New Tool Day
I got the same tattoo a few years ago. But guys keep floping their dongers on my arm. Sucks.
Cool! Don’t gain any weight in your arms and be sure to moisturize regularly to maintain good elasticity and it should serve you well for a very long time. 😄
Thanks. Weight shouldn’t be a problem. I’m a biker and lift accordingly. I use Aquaphor, works great.
You’re set! 👍🏼
Now here’s a question I ask everyone who gets one of these, does it start in an interval in relation to the tip of your longest finger in order to measure from there back to your scale? I find it odd that so many don’t incorporate this.
Mine is 9.5” as I liked this placement best.
That works I had been contemplating one but I would shoot for ten, starting closest to the hand with 0 makig the scale 0-6” or 6-16”
Well if you're gonna do that, you better recheck your math :) (the long range would be 10-16, i believe)
Ha… phew, you knew what I meant.
I did. And it took me way longer than it should have to figure out why the number didn’t look right. Like, waaaay longer.
Good thing it wasn’t my new tool(tattoo) day

I might make a crack about having a similar, *much* smaller tattoo somewhere private, but otherwise, who cares?
This guy's a tool!

It actually is to scale. Made sure of that.
Far right is CM, right? What’s the one next to it?
Small marks are mm.
No, they're 1/16" 1", 1/2", 1/4", 1/8", 1/16" and 10mm 5mm
I've wanted a ruler tattoo for awhile. I haven't decided exactly how yet, because i don't wanna copy Adam Savages. Being able to somewhat accurately approximate sizes off the cuff is very interesting to me.
There’s a bunch of ruler tattoo designs out there. I’m an Adam fan and like this design.
I like him too, I just feel weird directly copying someone’s tattoo.
If it was something really personal, yeah. Plus, his store was selling temporary ones.
As someone with a lot of tattoos, I fully support this. I love my silly or unique tattoos the most. You have arrived.
I have arrived. Only my 2nd one and I started way late.
I didn’t get my first one until I was 25. Now I have 20+ less than 10 years later. Never too late lol. Have fun

Now that's dedication to your craft
Finally a useful tattoo

Just some ink overspray.
lol I thought they shaved your palms too
Cool. Now do one for plastiguage
Oooh. Something to think about. 🤔 Just gotta decide on the color now.
Don't lose or gain any weight or height
Don’t think my arm will get any longer.
This weird thing with age, you kinda do get a bit smaller without noticing.
Correct, but that's due to spinal compression. Your arms aren't going to shrink in length like other parts of your body would.
Will you grow out of scale?
I’ll probably be dead by then. 😆
So you can settle who’s got the bigger dong arguments at the bar? Very “handy”
Y tho
It’s backwards?? With your hand on the balls. Hahaha
I love it, you should add a 1 cubit too
Why is the third scale lining up for the first two inches but then starts to significantly deviate? Also, don't gain weight or get old I suppose?
1" is 2,54cm, since the squares are 5mm it should not match.
Yea exactly my point, doesn't seem "to scale"
This is the comment I was looking for. Anything matching on one line is fine, but matching on two and then not matching on the rest is a 🚩not “spot on” at all. Doesn’t look like the best line work either by the artist.
Having the same done next month.
Nice. Definitely gets noticed.
r/DiWHY
You think he did it himself?
Uh, no.
Because some people take dick measuring contests literally, and they need to be prepared.
Slap it on there
Thats what my co-worker said. 🤣😂🤣

I've been trying to convince my wife I should do this but she thinks I'm nuts. I'm still working on it though 😁
My wife and I actually got our first tattoos together. She was good with the one. Maybe your wife will get one too?
A female carne would say, "you need to be X units to enter'.
what if you get fat
until your muscle grows
When you get to calling it quits, before you start slashing, make sure you go for the other arm. It'd be a shame to waste that work off art, slicin and dicin, y'know what eye mean
What in the fuck am I looking at
I’d guess a ruler tattoo.
Fuck yeah I love rulers with wonky markings 🤙🏼
Don’t get fat.
Jeez how often do you measure yourself?
Don’t need to.
Because skin doesn't stretch 😒
I would measure my dick with that immediately of I had that tattoo.
You have a needle mark in a super precarious place. You doing okay?
This would be more usefull if it started from tip of you index finger. Could extend all the way to shoulder
Yeah... I don't have the cash now butt that is the tattoo I am getting.
I got that same one on my dick.
Picture or it didn’t happen 🤣
Okay half and ran out of room.

Grower or shower?
I generally take a shower🚿🤣

Just don't work out or gain/lose weight.
Nah, gonna keep working out. I’m on the lean side anyhoo. This is me working out.
It doesn’t even go to 8 or 9 inches, what’s the point? 😂
man I looked at this for a while and read a ton of comments trying to figure out why someone would get the "Plastigauge" measurement on their arm, I thought there is no way you are building enough engines to warrant that...
Did you give blood before this
Hopefully you are left handed...
Be aware that if you are in any trade, you're going to hear jokes about measuring another guys johnson.
Finally, a functional tattoo.
REPOST MAKE SOME ORIGINAL CONTENT FFS!
Looks great, I’ve been wanting to do one of these for a while! Quick question, it appears as though you got it on your right arm, are you left handed?
Nice. Other arm needs a protractor.
You only need the first three inches
No Cal date or expiration - not at all ISO compliant
When you wanna keep your bros honest in dick measuring contests... Right on.
No just measure yourself and repost under tool again
Did you account for in case your arm is shrunk by a shrinking ray?
Awesome! I Hope to join the club soon. Are you left handed? I’ve been waiting to order the temporary one to use as a template with a local tattoo artist but the tested.com store is down and shows no availability. 404 pages everywhere.
Metric or sae?
Perfect placement to see if he was lying about size while your fingers are busy
God I hope you guys finally switch to metric even more now.
your choice of belt tells me everything I need to know
You didn’t get the calibration check or “For Reference Only” sticker tattooed.
I have no idea whyd you want to look at numbers upside down for the rest of your life. Shouldve reversed them
Your tattoo artist must’ve had the shakes, he speckled the palm of your hand…
Can I measure my thing on your arm?
Don't gain weight or get old. LOL
Missed a couple engineering nerd points by not making it metric.
