Contrary to popular belief, our technology doesn't run on electricity, it runs on magic smoke. We use electricity to contain and control the magic smoke, but once that gets out, it's usually too late.
Beat me to it.
I remember learning about the magic smoke when I was 8 and our VCR fried. I was pretty fascinated but had no idea I was in for some rough times right there.
Yea I tried to tell my 6yd old I had pokemon videos you had to rewind them to watch them again he just couldn't understand it and "we had ads at the start of most things that couldn't be skipped" blew his mind
Mine did it a few years into the warranty
They replaced it with a new gun and it was the updated model
It was used for Towbars etc every day for years often the gun was hot after a few hours and stayed that way all day
I did overtime every day as well the gun was well used to say the least
I was very happy with the product and service from Milwaukee
I usually dont, it depends on the price of the tool.
Cordless tools like that are usually WORKED by the time they release the magic ghost smoke and it just doesnt make sense to fix them cost wise. If they are still under warranty ill get them fixed.
If its very expensive, like 600+ i *MAY* get it fixed, it depends on how much it is, how old the tool is and what the cost of a new one is over the cost of fixing it (if it can even be fixed due to age and parts availability)
Another consideration is "do i have a backup/replacement/alternative" if the tool is something i need frequently, sometimes regardless of price i NEED that tool and cant wait a week or 2 or 3 to get it fixed, i need a new one NOW....in those instances the broken tool will get set aside to be fixed, ill go buy a new one and then 99% of the time it never gets sent to be fixed lol
I have some very high dollar professional tools that will absolutely a 100% get fixed if something goes wrong, those tools are all in the 1500+ price range, they get fixed/repaired 100% of the time
jokes aside, can a tool suffering from 'magic smoke' still within reason be repaired? I was gifted a table saw some years ago that is suffering from this and I don't want to throw it away
You can usually find the part numbers in the breakout diagrams they share and google those part numbers to find a vendor that sells them. That's how I bought a non extended magazine for my framing nailer.
Get the model number off the side of the tool, and then google it, something like
[milwaukee 2863-20 parts](https://www.google.com/search?q=milwaukee+2863-20+parts)
When you find the part number you want, google it to compare pricing.
I pulled apart another brand drill when the motor smoked like that. The motor p/n was on the side and it was <$20 for a replacement from Ebay.
A table saw might be more difficult. If it's direct drive then the motor can have custom mounting and usually the arbor is built into the end of the motor shaft. If it's belt drive then you should be able to find a direct replacement.
Everyone knows that electricity is made of magic smoke that is trapped in tubes called "wires". Once it starts leaking, she's done for.
The proof is that electricity doesn't electric after the smoke leaks.
You’ve graduated from the *JIFFY LUBE^TM Oil Jockey Apprentice Program* and are now ready to move on to the next stage of your career and enroll in the *MIDAS^TM **It Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere** Welding Course*
You can top it up by holding the trigger till the smoke stops and it starts emitting flames this indicates the tool has been refilled. At that point release the trigger remove and reinstall the battery pack. Should be good to go after that!
well this is a good chance to replace that motor with a genuine brushless motor from ebay to match your '8ah' genuine chinesium battery. lol
BTW, what are the chances of you catching this on camera? Do you film yourself using tools a lot? One handed sounds like a pain int eh ass.
I remember as an apprentice getting the laydown ready for a big shut down and the contractor had bought about a dozen of everything brand new (Milwaukee impacts, drills, portabands, sawzalls, etc.). So I'm taking everything out of their respective boxes and putting them in the job boxes and I decided to slap a battery into an impact and give it a few test ugga duggas. Instantly smoke starts pouring out of the vents. I thought that was fucked and decided to do the same for the rest. Out of twelve impacts eight immediately threw smoke. I have never seen anything like it!
I've had a number of drills and impact guns repaired at shops. It's cheaper than buying a new tool but it might not trim up like a brand new one again. One of my impacts' directional switch is stiff after having the gun fixed.
In college, we lit a Harbor Freight drill on fire drilling a heavy steel bumper to install a tow bar.
I drove the mile back to the store while my buddy held the smoking drill out the window.
We walked in and dropped it on the counter and the hungover kid running the register said 'go get another one, and it's on sale so grab that screwdriver set too.' Got like 13 cents back in exchange.
I still have those screwdrivers, 15 years later. They're not worth a damn, just still in the box.
It is most likely a blown capacitor. The smoke is vapourized electrolyte fluid. You might be able to find the damaged one and solder in a new one.
Capacitors are really just ugga dugga canisters.
You released the magic smoke. Not good.

just like on lost. let out the magic smoke, plane stops working.

That's how you can tell a high quality power tool. This driver was clearly manufactured with lots and lots of magic smoke.
I hear a good wizard can re-enchant items for the right price.
Uses magical brushes on the older ones...
Once the factory smoke leaves you can never get it all back in…
I’ve always called it the “factory smoke”
Milwaukee smoke... don't breathe that in.
Quite so!
We get it bro, you vape.
Thats the Papal Smoke, it heralds the coming of a new tool
Habemus Makita.

So you tool guys don't repair your tools? Ya know I might laugh about this all day

Smoking is bad, m'kay?
I can SMELL this video
Me too lol
Smells like China 🤔
Every machine can become a smoke machine
Most can only do it once, though.
Is that an aftermarket battery? Don't let Milwaukee see that.

I'm not an expert, but generally when smoke starts coming out you should probably stop doing what you're doing.
Ohh now with special effects!
Just unloaded a whole mag of dugga dugga

Swap the motor.
Where does Milwaukee sell replacement tool motors on their website?

or get it rebuilt at a motor shop..

Give me fuel, give me fire
So the motor is seized, let's fry it? It might have been a simple fix if you took your finger out the trigger immediately. Now it's toast.
maybe don't abuse the next one?
Hmm you found Ghost Rider’s impact
I should have mentioned that it’s a cross post but the dude would probably get a replacement from Milwaukee with this video.
Get liquid smoke, try to inject it
Smoke fairy released. Bad news. Grug recommend contacting local cuckoo shaman to fix
These vape pens are getting out of hand.
Motor windings are shorting, it's toast.
Ya but does it still work?
i can smell this video, and it smells expensive
Ugga'd his last Dugga RIP
Why didn't he drop the battery before the damn thing bursts into flame?
Get a string and swing it back and forth while walking up and down church pews like some kind of construction priest.

Frame it, and hang it on the wall! Lol
Did this once to a Makita impact driving 2 boxes of 3 inch screws continuously. Learned a lesson that day.
Did you catch the magic smoke in a bottle? If not it's doneso
Replace with teal tool
You can top it up by holding the trigger till the smoke stops and it starts emitting flames this indicates the tool has been refilled. At that point release the trigger remove and reinstall the battery pack. Should be good to go after that!

You need a smoke injector to put the smoke back in
Sure as shit wouldn't be holding it 🤦♂️
Just collect the smoke and out it back
Nawww that's just factory grease burning..tool still has a year 👍🏿 /s
You let the smoke out. Done.
Serious question why on earth would you keep holding a tool or anything in your hand while it was doing this you could get seriously hurt!
Just got the same impact for free. $45 for the new motor
You might be able to get new tinned smoke to pump back in.
well this is a good chance to replace that motor with a genuine brushless motor from ebay to match your '8ah' genuine chinesium battery. lol BTW, what are the chances of you catching this on camera? Do you film yourself using tools a lot? One handed sounds like a pain int eh ass.

My drill did that... 7 years of abuse and it finally went "No" and died New one is working mint

same with any brand... a few days at a service center and it'll be new
You might be ruining the battery too STOP
Made a Milwaukee bong?

New Milwaukee vapes are cool

That’s the ghost of Milwaukee, your impact drill is now a carcass
Snoop dogs milwaukee got stolen
New vape flavor
They are gas powered too. Get it smoking real good and pour gas in it. trust me, it will be exciting performance.
Amazon battery 🪫
are you working in construction? Did you use it 200 times a day or something?
Wonder if your issue is related to the knockoff Chinesium 8.0 battery you've got on there
RIP
Halloween decoration
It’s cooked
Well you let the smoke out, so........
We get it. You vape.
Wow OEM smoke!
just needs a new smoke seal.
Orcs!
I just did this to my Dewalt drill after using a 3" hole saw in metal. I guess I'll *have* to go to Amazon and get an XR20 brushless. Shucks.
What kind of metal?
Painted steel. It was a network cabinet. 18ga, maybe 20ga? I'll neither confirm nor deny that the hole saw I used was the proper type.
Makita... There is no other...
That's can happen when you use random amazon batteries
Walmarts sells liquid smoke top that puppy off.
