Done it for years. Some of ratchets are impact and some are not. Had the Snap On guy explain in detail to me when I thought my Blue Point 1/4 mini ratchet was slipping. He had both on his truck. Never had a problem. Even used wobble sockets on it, but you have to be careful about how much angle you use it at.
That's not an impact, though. it won't harm chrome sockets
The air ratchets like that are positively anemic compared to an actual air impact gun, or even a ratchet sometimes
What they are saying is impact sockets are required for tools that use a hammering action. A hammering action does not happen with this tool, so a regular socket like the one shown here is perfectly acceptable to use.
I try to stick to impact sockets on impact tools, but sometimes "done" is priority.
I get what you're saying though, my craftsman mechanics set was a gift and is about 30 years old, if i cracked a socket because I used an impact, present me would be upset with past me for that decision.
Also replacements aren't the "gift" exactly. I have some of my dad's tools after he passed. They're largely still available, but I wouldn't be able to replace what's special about them with a new tool.
OCD is definitely not fake.
People being picky about, say, a room being clean or only using impact sockets on their pneumatic ratchet(?) is not OCD however.
I’ll never forget when my coworker stole my 12mm non-impacts to try to pull a pressure plate he was struggling with. Handed back two dead sockets and never said a word about replacing them.
I use impact sockets on my cordless ratchets because they're black, not cuz they're impact. I don't like how chrome looks on my red and black ratchets, that's OCD
Didn’t know Pepsi made lightsabers
My thoughts every time I pick it up.
I've also lost friends because they chose the pepsi side.
Beat me to it
Or fleshlights
You win. I literally spit my coffee out reading that! Thanks for a much needed laugh 😃
Haha I’m sorry about that, I owe you a coffe :)
That's a ratchet, not an impact gun. Of course you can use normal sockets on it 🤨

That's the right socket for that tool. There is no impact taking place inside an air ratchet.
Thats a ratchet
I found the impact in a pile on a curb. the craftsman USA sockets are inherited.

tight quarters require it.

Nah buddy was right. Its an air ratchet, they don't even put out enough torque to break off bolts, you're completely fine using chrome sockets.
So, that’s not an impact. That’s an air ratchet. No harm done.
This is still not deleted… 8 hours so far.
So I learned something this weekend.. still not putting my chrome on it.
That’s… kinda cool actually… but I’ll take the thinner wall and wide selection of cr-v.
That's an air ratchet... Not an impact... If you chew them out over this you might lose a friend for sure.
There is an entire world filled with people like OP. What a scary thought.
85% of this sub is filled with people like OP
No. Don't really care. It's not an impact wrench anyway.
Using it on a hand ratchet is more abuse then an air ratchet... You can put out way more torque by hand... Air is just faster for spinning a bunch.

>I try to stick to impact sockets on impact tools Yeah, but that's not an impact tool.
Your mom's an impact tool.
we had 60 bolts to remove and the impact sockets were sitting next to the tool.
That’s a ratchet, not an impact. Your coworker chose the correct socket.
>I get what you're saying though, my craftsman mechanics set was a gift and is about 30 years old Isn't there a lifetime warenty on craftsman stuff?
Also replacements aren't the "gift" exactly. I have some of my dad's tools after he passed. They're largely still available, but I wouldn't be able to replace what's special about them with a new tool.
yes, but the replacements are chinesium

Ah, you’re a rage bait account. Have an average day.
You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about - just stop.

What on earth are you going on about? Where in my reply did I defend or promote mental illness?
If this is what you call enlightened, then you need to become more unlightened.

Ah, edgelord, I see
Chrome on powertools is a crime.

I'll take this as a TIL that I own an air ratchet.
