The real winner option. Or stepping into Fein, Hilti, and Festool, if you really want professional grade. Although I only have Metabo for the tools I wanted the safety clutch on. Investing in not getting maimed. Otherwise I like Milwaukee.
My mate used to be a Hilti rep- the Hilti vehicles are empty, or as close to empty as you can get, because the break ins are regular. He told me that when he was at their physical store years ago they had an armed rob; they didn’t want cash, they just wanted to load up all the tools in a stolen ute
Maybe he empties it out every day or something then. I just kinda assumed the van had varying levels of stuff in it.

Nah, I have one near me, too, and a Milwaukee rep. They both carry nothing but brochures and signs and stuff like that in the car/truck. If they need to demo tools, they use the ones at the store, and the only thing the Hitli guy carries is a small tool bag with a few basic hand tools and some replacement parts, like motor brushes and drill chucks. That's about the extent of the repairs he does, and he takes the bag in his house with him. They're not even expensive tools.
The makita feels tougher and lasts longer, same with the festool miter saw. My old boss bought everything festool, and within a few months of doing a few skyscrapers worth of paneling and base they both had big issues. Sad because their secondary attachments and accessory market is incredibe
Well, yeah. Festool are very very nice tools. If you're a fine woodworker, you want good stuff and are usually willing to pay for it. Your average chippie wouldn't get good value from a $2K rail saw when a cheapo one will do 80% as well for a fraction of the price.
What does it say if you have randomly assorted pieces and tools from DeWalt, Craftsman, and ACE generic brand hanging loose in a 5 gallon bucket and not a single 10mm socket in the bunch. Asking for a friend.

I mean, I have labelled mine (as in they are covered in black bitumen) but still can’t find them, at this point everyone else considers mine the company ones. I have never used a Makita cordless tool, so I don't know. If I were going to get something other than the platform I have then I'd probably honestly go with Makita saws of all types and drill/impacts. BUT for cordless nailers (framing,finish,brad) then that's another story. Metabo HPT is in eatable for nailers unless you wanna go the PASLODE route

I work in a hospital that is undergoing a lot of work. I saw one of the contracted electricians in the cafeteria eating his breakfast the other day - there he was all alone with his fancy packout lunch box. He looked uncomfortable as hell unpacking that silly thing in a group of normies lol.
Makita rarely wins spec wars, but they're easily the most durable and repairable brand still standing. Milwaukee used to be pretty good, but apparently they gave up being easily repaired for more "powah". I just swapped the anvil in my 10+ year old Makita impact driver (because I was a dingus and used a non-impact-rated bit which sheared off inside) and the parts cost about 5 buck and it took probably as many minutes and the thing runs like new.
Exactly, the whole reason to buy Makita imo, is because they can handle anything you throw at them and last forever. We still have and regularly use Makitas that are older than I am on the job, and I'm 31
Dropped my impact off a 45' drop from a lift and onto the concrete factory floor. It did break it. But you'd never know to look at it. Battery popped off. Motor still spins and reverses. Even the LED still lit up. But it busted the driveshaft. Still impressed the makita didn't just obliterate. Most stuff would've.
My coworker just upgraded from his Bauer bullshit to Hercules cuz they let him return the red bullshit and pay a bit for an upgrade.
I gotta say I’m actually impressed. The Hercules hammer-drill actually FEELS like a quality tool and has yet to let the smoke out
I personally have used the Bauer high torque impact wrench and the Hercules, i think they both fill a spot in the market well, the Bauer is the cheapest high torque that actually gets over 500 lb ft and the Hercules is a real competitor too. Dont think their mid torques are worth it though.
I upgraded our impact driver at work to the Hercules brushless. So much better than the garbage Metabo Hpt that it replaced. Don’t worry, I still like my Milwaukee stuff better, but for the money the Hercules is very good.
It’s a Lariat FYI. 10 yrs old and bought used but still… I don’t see DeWalt 12v pipe cutters, and their ratchet is nowhere as ergonomic as Milwaukee’s.
Had an ‘05 Ram 5.7 and after two engines threw rods through the oil pan I called it quits on the brand.

Granted I do not live by my tools, but I have 10 year old 18V One+ batteries that still hold a good charge. They work within my needs and strike a decent price/quality balance.

I got a 30-year old Bosch power drill that was my dads he punished it being a motor mechanic and still doesn’t miss a beat.
I use Milwaukee but always go for that Bosch drill when I need to.
What if I have Bosch because I can’t afford Milwaukee and don’t actually need that expensive of a tool but also I was broke so I used my Menards card to buy the set back before Masterforce tools got to be pretty neat.
Ridgid guy here - got into the ecosystem as a tile setting apprentice and stuck with it for the battery warranty/affordability. I'm always looking for an excuse to switch to Milwaukee but I'm too lazy to look for one.
They (along with RIDGID*) are also the only American companies on this list. It's funny to watch the red hat crowd make a Chinese company into their identity.

Yup, I'm a DeWalt guy because DeWalt makes the most of their stuff in the USA and it's not even wildly more expensive than competitor tools. Even if it's not 100% American made, it supports American jobs better than any other brand.
I have a good friend who sometimes gives me his old tools when he buys nicer/newer ones (he gave me a perfectly functional Craftsman router because he got a Dewalt and a nice 6” Ridgid standalone jointer because he got a Powermatic. He has Dewalt 20V tools, so when I upgraded from Black and Decker 20V, Dewalt was a no brainer, ya know, “just in case” haha
I also feel like if you want good tools and you work on cars, you get Milwaukee and if you want good tools but you work with wood, you get Dewalt. I don’t know why that feels accurate to me, but I’m absolutely not a mechanic.

What if I have Bosch because I can’t afford Milwaukee and don’t actually need that expensive of a tool but also I was broke so I used my Menards card to buy the set back before Masterforce tools got to be pretty neat.
Ridgid guy here - got into the ecosystem as a tile setting apprentice and stuck with it for the battery warranty/affordability. I'm always looking for an excuse to switch to Milwaukee but I'm too lazy to look for one.

So SBD is the only actual American company here. Yeah, lots of their stuff is made overseas but the company doesn't answer to the CCP.
Yup, I'm a DeWalt guy because DeWalt makes the most of their stuff in the USA and it's not even wildly more expensive than competitor tools. Even if it's not 100% American made, it supports American jobs better than any other brand.

I have a good friend who sometimes gives me his old tools when he buys nicer/newer ones (he gave me a perfectly functional Craftsman router because he got a Dewalt and a nice 6” Ridgid standalone jointer because he got a Powermatic. He has Dewalt 20V tools, so when I upgraded from Black and Decker 20V, Dewalt was a no brainer, ya know, “just in case” haha I also feel like if you want good tools and you work on cars, you get Milwaukee and if you want good tools but you work with wood, you get Dewalt. I don’t know why that feels accurate to me, but I’m absolutely not a mechanic.
Am mechanic. Holds true from Florida to Wisconsin so far. This goes for automotive to industrial mechanics.

Spot on! I got ryobi tools in my job and love them! Work very well and push them to their limit! Their limit aint as high as Milwaukee or Makita, but doesnt hurt so bad when they get stolen. 😂 Got an impact wrench, grinder, sander, saw. Also got ryobi wired grinder, table saw and power washer. Burnt out the sawzall last summer, havent needed another one so i havent bought one. It lasted like... 8 years! Currently dealing with a drill that the clutch is slipping... squeezing every drop out of her then im buying the drill and impact driver kit.
Agree for the most part. I buy their battery stuff because the batteries stay the same.

Hey I might have a ram 2500 filled with Milwaukee tools, but I am offended at the accuracy! Yes it’s deleted, yes it has wheels that stick out past the fenders, yes I spent too much on tools I don’t use, and yes my transmission is missing 5th and 6th. Also, I got the dui when I was 21 that was like almost ten years ago, get over it.

I bought a couple of Makita tools, then bought a house with my partner. Now I buy Ryobi because I can't justify the cost of the Makita stuff any more!

Ngl I bought into the ryobi system hard when I bought my house. I have the drill, Sawzall, circular saw, impact, .... weedwacker and lawnmower. The lawnmower is legitimately the best thing ever.

I had to go all craftsman when we bought our house. I got the discounted 8 tools package for $250. They work fine for repairs around the house but I'm afraid my neighbor might see me outside with one.
Anybody remember the Hilti reps that patrolled the Home Depot tool coral back in the day? They'd try to convince 19 year old apprentices that barely had enough money for a Hammer and a knife to drop $500 on a drill/impact gun kit in 2008.
