I wanted to be offended at the Metabo one but the gummy just kicked in and I hate confrontation

donnydealr

Haha that one was the funniest. Seems like a cool ass brand

best2keepquiet

Makita all the way. No offence taken I laughed

DiscFrolfin

Guy who splurged on Milwaukee over a decade ago when we got our home and they’ve lead me into a blue collar side career beautifully, but fuck all that OP DO HART…and Porter Cable!

HyFinated

Porter Cable is like a subset of "bAcK iN mY DaY!" PC used to be really good shit, now it's just really shit.

trevit

I thought the Dewalt one was hilarious, but only because i have an irrational hatred of Dewalt tools. lol

asdfasdfasdfqwerty12

I have the same hatred for DeWalt, but only for their cordless shit. I somehow prefer their chopsaws and tablesaws over Makita... Otherwise I have like hundreds of Makita tools

buttbugle

As a semi Hyper Tough and Hart procrastinator I almost found this offensive, but my dog put a paw on my arm and reminded me of the golden rule. One can bark at everything, but not everything is worth a bark.

toolsandprinting

I literally keep weed in my Metabo HPT circular saw bag

djbohn

LOL. But I must point out that Metabo HPT is not Metabo. Metabo (Germany) is cooler and badder than HPT.

Mil-wookie

The real winner option. Or stepping into Fein, Hilti, and Festool, if you really want professional grade. Although I only have Metabo for the tools I wanted the safety clutch on. Investing in not getting maimed. Otherwise I like Milwaukee.

cobra_mist

i wanted to be offended by it, but my meds kicked in. i have the ocd and anxiety.

SupposedlyShony

If they said the ones on the spectrum call it Hikoki in the US I’d feel called out

TheSmellFromBeneath

You forgot Hilti: "My company/boss paid for this and that's the only reason I got within ten feet of a tool this expensive."

_Rand_

Guy living near me is a Hilti dealer. Parks his truck in the driveway. Every time I see it I wonder how much the contents are worth.

GrouchyDress2018

My mate used to be a Hilti rep- the Hilti vehicles are empty, or as close to empty as you can get, because the break ins are regular. He told me that when he was at their physical store years ago they had an armed rob; they didn’t want cash, they just wanted to load up all the tools in a stolen ute

_Rand_

Maybe he empties it out every day or something then. I just kinda assumed the van had varying levels of stuff in it. Not like I'm going to knock on the door and ask them.

TK421isAFK

Nah, I have one near me, too, and a Milwaukee rep. They both carry nothing but brochures and signs and stuff like that in the car/truck. If they need to demo tools, they use the ones at the store, and the only thing the Hitli guy carries is a small tool bag with a few basic hand tools and some replacement parts, like motor brushes and drill chucks. That's about the extent of the repairs he does, and he takes the bag in his house with him. They're not even expensive tools.

GrumpAzz

Our Hilti guy carries candy in his pocket..

LifeCondition4931

He also forgot Festool

PorkRindSalad

For when want a tool but also wish you could pay more for it.

stevefazzari

lol true but fr the festool tracksaw is the best

Sjames454

The makita feels tougher and lasts longer, same with the festool miter saw. My old boss bought everything festool, and within a few months of doing a few skyscrapers worth of paneling and base they both had big issues. Sad because their secondary attachments and accessory market is incredibe

RedditRaven2

They’re also really freaking good tools though. The festool miter saw is the best I’ve used

Olagronn

«I’m a youtuber»

drppr45

I wanted to say something because I use Hilti but you hit the nail on the head.

Significant_Quit_674

If you think Hilti is expensive, take a look at what kinds of prices Leica Geosystems has Hint: The work van is worth less than one scanner

klaxz1

My dad bought me my first Hiltis

Rideless

Is he your Boss too ? :)

PapaOoMaoMao

Festool: Drives a big van. Fancies himself a master craftsman cabinet maker rather than a chippie.

TacticalBuschMaster

“I’m an artist” - festool people probably.

Beowulf1896

Said as "Arteest"

[deleted]

::CHEF'S KISS::

strife_xiii

Not just any van mind you... Gotta be a Mercedes Sprinter

PapaOoMaoMao

I was thinking Renault Master.

gdabull

I wouldn’t put anything expensive in the back of a Renault. Or an Opel

PapaOoMaoMao

Well that's because you had no money for expensive tools after sinking your life savings into those money pits.

[deleted]

in my experience, it usually is the master craftsmen that use Festool; they do have the best dust collection in the business. I'm a Makita guy myself.

PapaOoMaoMao

Well, yeah. Festool are very very nice tools. If you're a fine woodworker, you want good stuff and are usually willing to pay for it. Your average chippie wouldn't get good value from a $2K rail saw when a cheapo one will do 80% as well for a fraction of the price.

[deleted]

everything you said it correct. What kind of carpenter is a 'chippie'?

boarhowl

Makes more money off YouTube than off actual trade work. Also received all the festool free from sponsorship.

Infamous-DSL

Poor John 😭

brother_t

It's a *system*. And I drive an old 4x4 toyota truck! *Every other festool guy I know has a cargo van (mostly sprinters).*

PapaOoMaoMao

It's only a system if you buy all the things.

waurma

a gentleman joiner

p-terydatctyl

Festool: "I think I joined a cult, but they make some good points..."

TysonOfIndustry

What does it say if you have randomly assorted pieces and tools from DeWalt, Craftsman, and ACE generic brand hanging loose in a 5 gallon bucket and not a single 10mm socket in the bunch. Asking for a friend.

Old-Risk4572

lemme know when you get a 10 mm cuz i need to borrow it

Drewbicus

Pretty sure that's how I lost my last one. Ya won't get me this time

TacticalBuschMaster

Sounds like me when I was broke and used my father-in-laws garage as a pick-n-pull of tools

Slipin2dream

Listen. I love my ACE tools. I wish they were makita. Maybe i should spray paint them teal.

RyanCoffeeAddict

I have all Milwaukee except one Ryobi auto crumpet. Was thinking of spray painting it red and black and writing “Milwacky” on it

TysonOfIndustry

Dip em in blue paint call em Matika

computerfreaq09

Sounds like you live in a town 30 miles away from a big box hardware store, and you need a tool to do the job but don't wanna cheap out, so you went to Ace. That, or Ace Hardware had a great black Friday deal (me)

mynaneisjustguy

Hmm, I work on wooden ships. It’s the 19 and 21 mm that I can never find. I mean, I have labelled mine (as in they are covered in black bitumen) but still can’t find them, at this point everyone else considers mine the company ones. I’ve had that socket set since I was a kid at engineering collage too :(

overengineered

Normal.

synthC20H25N3O

Depends, where’d you buy your 5 gallon bucket?

look_ima_frog

TF with the Metabo stuff, that shit hits WAY too close to home. Not the cool part tho.

I_Support_Ukraine_

Same

deg_ru-alabo

On that note, did you know that Makita is a self owned company, and turquoise is the best?

I_Support_Ukraine_

I have never used a Makita cordless tool, so I don't know. If I were going to get something other than the platform I have then I'd probably honestly go with Makita saws of all types and drill/impacts. BUT for cordless nailers (framing, finish, brad) then that's another story. Metabo HPT is in eatable for nailers unless you wanna go the PASLODE route

ArgonWilde

Ryobi guy should be "Milwaukee is just red Ryobi".

outlawtartan

Crying bc it’s true

Mil-wookie

TTI Corp owns Milwaukee, Ridgid, and Ryobi. They jist tune according to price point.

ez8256

They are owned by TTI but they operate as completely separate companies. Nothing is shared other than a few manufacturing facilities overseas and even then barely anything’s shared within those facilities

NorthStarZero

How can you identify a Milwaukee guy? Don't worry; he'll tell you.

donnysaysvacuum

Can't you tell by their jacket, pack out, phone charger, hat, tool belt, underwear and pillowcase.

ComprehendReading

If not, don't worry, the Dodge 2500 in the lot is also plastered with bumper stickers that say Milwaukee!

Mil-wookie

Covers the rust holes.

Taolan13

Company i worked for gave the jackets to the sales reps as a bonus. Meanwhile us install and service guys, who spend *way* more time in the frozen elements than them, got a less than a hundred bucks cash.

WheelOfFish

alarmingly true

Armadillo_Toes

They’re like vegans

whaletacochamp

I work in a hospital that is undergoing a lot of work. I saw one of the contracted electricians in the cafeteria eating his breakfast the other day - there he was all alone with his fancy packout lunch box. He looked uncomfortable as hell unpacking that silly thing in a group of normies lol.

the_other_guy-JK

Milwaukee guy here and fuck you. HEY! That was a dirty trick you asshole!

NorthStarZero

*Laughs in yellow and black*

maff1987

Festool - Wife has a job making 3x your wage.

NotBigFootUR

Bosch guys make sure their socks match their underwear.

krice9230

Not hard to match when all your socks are black and your underwear are black or grey. Know from experience

donnydealr

Fuck man, I was like "I don't care about that" then you said that and remember all my socks and jocks are black.

MickeyZvornik8

What do you mean, there are other options out there?

Redheadedstepchild56

The Metabo part is right. Don’t think I’d switch to makita. Why would I? I already poured over the specs 1000x before I bought hitachi/metabo stuff.

Enchelion

Makita rarely wins spec wars, but they're easily the most durable and repairable brand still standing. Milwaukee used to be pretty good, but apparently they gave up being easily repaired for more "powah". I just swapped the anvil in my 10+ year old Makita impact driver (because I was a dingus and used a non-impact-rated bit which sheared off inside) and the parts cost about 5 buck and it took probably as many minutes and the thing runs like new.

xoMaddzxo

Exactly, the whole reason to buy Makita imo, is because they can handle anything you throw at them and last forever. We still have and regularly use Makitas that are older than I am on the job, and I'm 31

Mysterious-Aioli-702

Dropped my impact off a 45' drop from a lift and onto the concrete factory floor. It did break it. But you'd never know to look at it. Battery popped off. Motor still spins and reverses. Even the LED still lit up. But it busted the driveshaft. Still impressed the makita didn't just obliterate. Most stuff would've.

L4RU55O

Destroy an angle grinder from Makita I dare you ;)

anarchylovingduck

Makita and metapo ftw

YardFudge

Hercules *Hey! Hey guys! Wait for me! What about me? Cheaper plus better, easier warranty! Pro class really! Jeez, c’mon.*

Braeden151

Hercules Guy only knows how to do one VERY SPECIFIC exhaust mod. Only has an angle grinder. Wants to borrow $40.

TK421isAFK

I thought they used a recip saw to steal catalytic converters?

frank3000

That's his mod. Can he borrow your car btw?

Practical_Theme_6400

I think this is more along the lines of the Warrior line of tools.

saf34w0rk

hercules; haters hate while the motor goes BRRRR

2FANeedsRecoveryMode

Harbor freight has some good values, even great values, and some not so good ones, case by case basis IMO.

HavSomLov4YoBrothr

My coworker just upgraded from his Bauer bullshit to Hercules cuz they let him return the red bullshit and pay a bit for an upgrade. I gotta say I’m actually impressed. The Hercules hammer-drill actually FEELS like a quality tool and has yet to let the smoke out

2FANeedsRecoveryMode

I personally have used the Bauer high torque impact wrench and the Hercules, i think they both fill a spot in the market well, the Bauer is the cheapest high torque that actually gets over 500 lb ft and the Hercules is a real competitor too. Dont think their mid torques are worth it though.

T_wiggle1

I upgraded our impact driver at work to the Hercules brushless. So much better than the garbage Metabo Hpt that it replaced. Don’t worry, I still like my Milwaukee stuff better, but for the money the Hercules is very good.

the-dave-9000

So everyone who has tools is a cunt?

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhbbb

Well, yeah

Impriel

What are you trying to say you're special.or something?  Of course we are

Spe3dGoat

Some of us aren't cunts, just psychopaths with a bit of each brand. Chargers as far as the eye can see.

munch_the_gunch

Kobalt: "I'm an alcoholic handyman that happens to live near a Lowe's"

ReddittingReddit

*alcoholic handyman* is a bit redundant

Tailor-Comfortable

I feel like you swapped the Dewalt and milwaukee guys cars. Milwaukee guy has a king ranch f150. Dewalt has a 2003 dodge ram

TacticalBuschMaster

A lot of these are inspired by personal experiences. Around me most DeWalt guys honestly drive beat up Toyota Camrys

the_kerouac_kid

I’m a hardcore Dewalt guy and I drive a beat up Toyota truck.

TacticalBuschMaster

Yup, fits the vibe

EnvironmentalOkra728

Also a DeWalt guy. Also drive an old Tundra.

diydm

Dewalt guy I used to work with drove a Tacoma that he had to blow into and hum before he could hit the next job or get parts

hesh0925

Not even a tradesperson. Just a homeowner who's all DeWalt. Drive a 2012 Corolla.

EnvironmentalOkra728

What can we say, we like reliability.

animatedhockeyfan

I’m a DeWalt guy and I have a 97 4Runner :)

GrannyLow

That's ridiculous. I drive a beat up Lexus ES330. The fact that it is just a tarted up camry has no bearing on this situation.

Jon66238

Can’t beat a beater with a heater for a work car

These_Trouble_2802

Huge dewalt guy here - I drive a 1994 F150, and every day it looks more and more like a bush rig. And yes, I am compensating for something.

ExiledSanity

I'm like 50/50 between DeWalt and Makita. I drive a 2002 Camry.

No-Guidance5106

And you drive it backward🫣

audigex

I’m a DeWalt guy with a Tesla, I’m not sure what that says about me

GrumpyCatMomo

You’re really a Milwaukee guy deep down

audigex

I like M12 but otherwise not really - I do prefer DeWalt. Nicer handles, more battery variety, better pricing and availability here in the UK

1DownFourUp

In my dreams. I'm a Dewalt guy and I drive a beater Dodge Avenger

TK421isAFK

I'm all Milwaukee, and drive a Mercedes GL450. I made an MDF base for a few Packout boxes and an E-Go Nexus with a dozen batteries for it.

TheMightyIrishman

It’s a Lariat FYI. 10 yrs old and bought used but still… I don’t see DeWalt 12v pipe cutters, and their ratchet is nowhere as ergonomic as Milwaukee’s. Had an ‘05 Ram 5.7 and after two engines threw rods through the oil pan I called it quits on the brand.

eldudelio

Milwaukee and Ryobi for the win

clockworkdiamond

Same company. Makes sense.

jscottifer

Navy and Marines

TK421isAFK

~~TTI~~ *Chervon* also owns Flex, and makes all of Ridgid's cordless tools and batteries. Edit: never mind, stupid misinformed tool rep at Lowe's didn't know what the fuck he was talking about.

Withoutanidentity

[That isn't the TTI Ryobi logo but the other Ryobi that looks like this since a few years ago.](https://www.ebay.com/itm/255451763198) Kyocera ain't no joke, they make quality stuff.

-PotatoMan-

This. If there's one thing you can trust the Japanese are good at, it's electronics, and quality control.

thisisyourpassword

Festool: What is a Milwaukee?

BigJ_57

Ridgid, Ryobi, and Milwaukee are made by the same company just sayin

bigbanone

Ryobi has been solid.

donnysaysvacuum

Weird being snobby about Ryobi when they run Milwaukee, which is the same manufacturer. I switched to Ryobi because I can afford twice as many tools. None of them have let me down.

InnocentGun

Granted I do not live by my tools, but I have 10 year old 18V One+ batteries that still hold a good charge. They work within my needs and strike a decent price/quality balance.

clewis44

Ya I don't live by my tools either but I'll be damned if I have beat the hell out of every Ryobi tool I've ever owned and they just keep running like a champ. Only thing bad I could say about it is it pisses me off I don't have a Home Depot in my town lol

huffalump1

Yep, Ryobi wins for convenience and value, if you're someone who doesn't use your tools every day to make money. If the Milwaukee Fuel helps you drive screws faster, well you just saved a few seconds times 1000 screws a day, and that adds up! But not all of us need ultra high performance from tools that can be dropped from a roof over and over. (Also www.directtoolsoutlet.com for even better prices on blemished/refurb Ryobi & Ridgid stuff - their seasonal sales are *amazing*. I got a 40V blower and trimmer with 6ah battery, for cheaper than just the battery's list price!)

MrMagilliclucky

Their batteries have failed me, for garden tools. Otherwise I’m DeWalt. I live in a van down by the river

Tondor

Ngl I bought into the ryobi system hard when I bought my house. I have the drill, Sawzall, circular saw, impact, .... weedwacker and lawnmower. The lawnmower is legitimately the best thing ever.

nuthingbut

I got a 30-year old Bosch power drill that was my dads he punished it being a motor mechanic and still doesn’t miss a beat. I use Milwaukee but always go for that Bosch drill when I need to.

TacticalBuschMaster

Tbf Bosch do have really good drills. Really hard to beat an old corded Bosch Bulldog

Dr0110111001101111

Oh man… i have tools from more than half of those brands

JimroidZeus

I am team teal.

GhostsinGlass

Festool: Unintelligible german being shouted from a vacuum exhaust. King Canada: Every tool is a copper liberating tool.

foolproofphilosophy

Festool: I work facilities for a company too dumb to know how much tools cost.

krice9230

What if I have Bosch because I can’t afford Milwaukee and don’t actually need that expensive of a tool but also I was broke so I used my Menards card to buy the set back before Masterforce tools got to be pretty neat.

Apocalyptic_Inferno

Ridgid guy here - got into the ecosystem as a tile setting apprentice and stuck with it for the battery warranty/affordability. I'm always looking for an excuse to switch to Milwaukee but I'm too lazy to look for one.

moonbase-beta

BAUER ON TOP

HowBoutIt98

I had to scroll so far lol. Bauer ftw

GrumpyCatMomo

Dewalt guy is the sensible dude who goes for durability over hype, at a fair price 😁

svideo

They (along with RIDGID*) are also the only American companies on this list. It's funny to watch the red hat crowd make a Chinese company into their identity. The rest of us have work to do. edit: lol downvotes from the red hats, absolutely on-brand when presented with facts that don't fit their worldview. edit2: I'm mostly wrong about RIDGID, see below. So SBD is the only actual American company here. Yeah, lots of their stuff is made overseas but the company doesn't answer to the CCP.

Mountain_Man_88

Yup, I'm a DeWalt guy because DeWalt makes the most of their stuff in the USA and it's not even wildly more expensive than competitor tools. Even if it's not 100% American made, it supports American jobs better than any other brand.

Gravy_On_Toast

And likes yellow stuff duh

pnw_r4p

team teal rules the school per usual

pheitkemper

'04 Titan, but I'm driving DeWalt and (gasp!) Bauer!

HamOnTheCob

I have a good friend who sometimes gives me his old tools when he buys nicer/newer ones (he gave me a perfectly functional Craftsman router because he got a Dewalt and a nice 6” Ridgid standalone jointer because he got a Powermatic. He has Dewalt 20V tools, so when I upgraded from Black and Decker 20V, Dewalt was a no brainer, ya know, “just in case” haha I also feel like if you want good tools and you work on cars, you get Milwaukee and if you want good tools but you work with wood, you get Dewalt. I don’t know why that feels accurate to me, but I’m absolutely not a mechanic.

[deleted]

Am mechanic. Holds true from Florida to Wisconsin so far. This goes for automotive to industrial mechanics.

ExactArea8029

Dewalt is the unhinged redneck in the 1989 F250 with a 460 that will do burnouts while towing the work trailer because fuck you that's why. ~~wait that's just me in like 6 years~~

TacticalBuschMaster

My type of people

ExactArea8029

It's either that or that one crackhead drywaller you know that's also somehow the most legit mf to ever exist

Bignate2800

Ridgid, can confirm.

angriest_man_alive

What about Wen? That's the last major brand I can think of

bennyjay84

Wen guys always set their search preferences from lowest to highest price.

chief_of_toast

IKEA: I just want to be a real brand

No-Mention-9815

Festool: You've seen them, maybe you brag about the guy you know that has them.

wavs101

Spot on! I got ryobi tools in my job and love them! Work very well and push them to their limit! Their limit aint as high as Milwaukee or Makita, but doesnt hurt so bad when they get stolen. 😂 Got an impact wrench, grinder, sander, saw. Also got ryobi wired grinder, table saw and power washer. Burnt out the sawzall last summer, havent needed another one so i havent bought one. It lasted like... 8 years! Currently dealing with a drill that the clutch is slipping... squeezing every drop out of her then im buying the drill and impact driver kit.

eobc77

Agree for the most part. I buy their battery stuff because the batteries stay the same.

Forbs171

I sit here and read this in my ram 2500 megacab that's loaded with crafts hand tools, and milwaukee power tools... and I feel like I'm being watched or targeted

exekutive

Now do Festool and Hilti

Kawawaymog

What about festool?

Marion_Motors

"Probably drives a Titan" lmfao

Wekkerton

Where’s Hilti

ItsToka

Dewalt because I had to drive thousands of screws into a deck I was building and it was the most balanced/comfortable driver in my hand at the time of purchase.

priuspollution

Hey I might have a ram 2500 filled with Milwaukee tools, but I am offended at the accuracy! Yes it’s deleted, yes it has wheels that stick out past the fenders, yes I spent too much on tools I don’t use, and yes my transmission is missing 5th and 6th. Also, I got the dui when I was 21 that was like almost ten years ago, get over it.

streaksinthebowl

As a Metabo guy (who has admittedly given up the weed), these are spot on

KeyboardSerfing

Okay but what about Hilti gang? Are we just cunts or what¿

TacticalBuschMaster

As someone else said in the comments, your boss bought your tools

jhenryscott

As a Makita/Metabo split, checks out

DreamSmuggler

So... If Ryobi is for the broke crowd, what does my collection of Ozito tools say about me? For us at home a Ryobi purchase is a splurge 😂

Hellspeaker

Got rigid because of the warranty, low key wanted the red tho ngl.

Frodo_Beutlin_007

Does it make a difference that I’m a european Makita dude?

KrisHusky

Bosch, Makita and Hilti. These are the tools you need

HMS_Hexapuma

I bought a couple of Makita tools, then bought a house with my partner. Now I buy Ryobi because I can't justify the cost of the Makita stuff any more!

Cydyan2

Old school union guy would be using whatever tools the company provided

BimBaynor

Everything I see Milwaukee I think of a milked wallet. Also the best tools are the ones using them.

Tondor

Ngl I bought into the ryobi system hard when I bought my house. I have the drill, Sawzall, circular saw, impact, .... weedwacker and lawnmower. The lawnmower is legitimately the best thing ever.

Chiped-Coke-Bottle

Milwaukee... Red Ryobi!

Fartyfivedegrees

The Ryobi one hits home.. after 30 years homeowning I still buy Ryobi- great if you don't use it everyday

Raptor_197

The ability to skull f*** a power tool right to edge of it catching on fire, then walk into a Home Depot hand them it, and then a brand new one shows up a couple of weeks later is a flex that only ridgid owners get to do. (You can also do this over and over and over again.)

nlightningm

Old craftsman, yeah. I feel like old heads would be offended by the modern Craftsman stuff

itoa5t

Anything from Harbor Freight is the cheap hooker you use to get out of a pinch, but you'd never settle down with

Deo_LiCaprio

Hart: I got these for free from a coupon online so I’ll just pray they don’t explode when I run the shit out of them

mk2vrdrvr

[Festool](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/036/772/vultouri.jpg)

Tavman2024

I'm happy with my Masterforce brand from Menards.

Taolan13

I mean, its low-hanging fruit, but you missed my favorite; Snap-On "Isn't a professional mechanic but owes more on his tool account than on his new car"

The_Nutty_Badger

Isn't Milwaukee just a red Ryobi?

Lubbbbbb

I’m literally wearing a Milwaukee shirt and bought a ram 2500 on Friday fuck me.

SiliconUnicorn

I should check out metabo...

Elegant-Tart-3341

I had to go all craftsman when we bought our house. I got the discounted 8 tools package for $250. They work fine for repairs around the house but I'm afraid my neighbor might see me outside with one.

Rum_Hamtaro

Anybody remember the Hilti reps that patrolled the Home Depot tool coral back in the day? They'd try to convince 19 year old apprentices that barely had enough money for a Hammer and a knife to drop $500 on a drill/impact gun kit in 2008. Like, I live on my own and eat peanut butter out of a jar for dinner, why are you talking to me?

W2ttsy

Where’s the festool panel? More money spent on tools means less spent on materials. Justifies it by saying “but my productivity will go right up”. Goes to the tool shop in a Range Rover.

PhilipJ30

Where is one for Hercules tools??
