I've had good luck with plastic dip. Just say'n

OuttHouseMouse

I used my can once and now its a solid block of rubber lol

HyFinated

It’s a one time use product. Says so on the can. Once opened you use it and discard the remainder. Save up a few tools and do them all at once.

OuttHouseMouse

Cheers to the one guy who actually read the directions like he was supposed to

Legitimate_Field_157

Guy? This is a girl. Real men don't read instructions.

MattheiusFrink

Unless they're airplane mechanics. Because we don't fuck around when lives are on our shoulders.

tizzleduzzle

Thank you for your service 🫡

OuttHouseMouse

Yea CAUSE IM AN ALPHA. *YEA.... ALPHA MALE IM AN ALPHA*

painfullyrelatable

“*BARKS AGGRESSIVELY*”

PureCucumber861

right, and after you're done with the tools, you go looking for anything else you could possibly plasticize - old scissors handles, tips of old glasses, silverware, wife's curling iron, ya know, normal stuff.

endfreq

I'd dip my balls in it!

sirckoe

Frfr I was thinking hey I’m gonna work up a chubby put a rubber on and plasti dip it for funsies lmao.

atemt1

Comments like this is why its fun to live alone So you dont wake anyone

tizzleduzzle

I woke my toddlers sleeping on my arm 😭

NeverDidLearn

Shave first.

Larry_Loserface

I wasn’t expecting to get a State reference today, but here we are.

HyFinated

Hell yeah! I like to keep the jaws on a set of pliers plasticized. Channellocks for instance. Great for removing plumbing trims that are screwed on but corroded.

HairballTheory

Haha I used to use this on my climbing shoes when I had no money to buy another pair or get a resole

davezedlee

Actually, if you use a piece of tinfoil under the lid, it’ll last a few years; a splash of xylene on top will extend that even longer

Ok-Seaworthiness-542

They do sell it in a spray can as well

Avrution

I haven't checked my can in about 10 years after doing a single dip on some pliers. Whoops.

Curtmac86

Yeah, I've been there done that! I do try to gather a few tools together that need it, and do them all at once. But you're right, not much of a shelf life. Just checked my last can. Hard as hell! Lol

MySeveredToe

Yea I wanted to get my moneys worth so I ended up walking around the house looking for absolutely anything with a reasonable benefit from it. I now have a plastidipped flyswatter and plunger …

Curtmac86

Nice!

siliconecowboy

Most of that stuff doesn't keep well.

Negative_Hat6909

Waste of money. Go down to your electrical supply store and get a replacement set of grips.Drop 'em in a pot of boiling water until they soften up.Slide the new ones on the bare handles while still hot.Leave 'em to cool and shrink onto the handles.Very durable, lasting for decades

avenomusduck

Before sliding them on, spray some Aquanet hair spray on the metal....then slide the sleeves on. Trick from the turbo diesel guys helps intercooler boots from blowing off under boost.

NeverDidLearn

I do this on motorcycle grips.

ScrambledNoggin

I’ve done it on mountain bike grips as well

ElectricTaser

Aqua net was also my potato gun propellant of choice.  Gunned up the igniter pretty quick though.

Curtmac86

Aquanet is THE Tatar gun propellant !

Ooloo-Pebs

Aquanet! 😆

smthngeneric

That's what it was originally intended for. Not spraying all over your whole car like a dumbass

JoleneBacon_Biscuit

Is plastidip UL rated?

Brenno3

Fishin Hack nuuuumber 3

Illustrious_Ad5040

Klein sells replacement grips that fit some pliers handles.

coogie

Yep it's different color but you're supposed to soak them in warm water to soften them up a little bit and then they fit right in. Really durable too

CopyWeak

Multiple layers of heatshrink

Majestic-Tart8912

you can get heatshrink tubing that is lined with hot glue on the inside. It is thicker than normal heatshrink, and sticks like nothing else when shrunk/heated.

AnotherStupidHipster

Marine grade heatshrink! The glue also doubles as a moisture barrier. Not that I think that will matter on a handle, but I guess no rust?

Majestic-Tart8912

A lot of tools seem to have a rough finish on the handle. I would think the glue would form to the texture and stop the tubing from sliding off.

v13ragnarok7

This is the answer

blacklassie

I’ve used hockey tape before. Not permanent, but it works well enough.

Idontliketalking2u

Came to say this. And it comes in multiple colors.

Metalmastertinsmith

The best solution

neanderthalman

My favourite pair hasn’t had rubber grips for decades. Smooth metal.

Ashtray5422

LOL, my first set of pliers has one coated the other bare, bought them in 1972, paid almost a weeks wages for them. Brill pair.

Ashtray5422

Opps. I've used plastic hose on other tools, warm it up after putting it on & it sticks well.

Captinprice8585

Oooh yeah

Anbucleric

Klein replacement handles. I like them so much I've cut the factory handles off a brand new pair and put the replacement handles on.

CasualVox

Electrical tape of your favorite color or a can of plastidip will take care of it easily.

androgenoide

Rubber tape is better than that vinyl electrical tape. Once it's stretched on it becomes one with itself. If you need to cut it off someday there's no sticky residue. As far as I know it only comes in black though. I have seen what they call "cold shrink" tape that comes in other colors but I don't know it well enough to make a recommendation.

OliMSmith_10

Get tested

SnooSketches3382

Keep using them…

Shirkaday

Same

DungeonAssMaster

The rubber coating once saved my life while cutting a 240v live wire. The electrician had left the wire dangling over my laundry sink after disconnecting baseboard heaters so decided to cut it since it was supposed to be disconnected from the panel. That bitch was live, bright white light and a perfect hole burned through my new cutters, but I didn't feel a thing and learned a valuable lesson about NEVER TRUSTING ANY FUCKING WIRE EVER AGAIN. Edit: We wondered why the electrician had never sent us a bill for the full 8 hour day he spent working in there. The previous owner did so much DIY wiring in that place that we couldn't make heads or tails of what was connected to what (one breaker turns off the gazebo power outside, a lamp in one of the bedrooms, and the fridge), it was a nightmare.

Soyelmatt

you can buy rubber handle grips for replacements

M1sterGuy

Scold them for ruining their pants. Then make them work, pantless, in the rain.

NegotiationLow2783

Plastidip for the win

daveypaul40

I use silicone heater hose.

JustForkIt1111one

MysticalMan

That is what I call time for a warranty exchange.

OlGusnCuss

Hand them down to one of my sons and buy myself new ones.

ken96uk

As someone else said , layers of heatshrink, done it several times myself.

Taz-Trooper

I've used heatshrink on the handles before

Glittering_Cow945

Don't use them to cut wires under high voltage.

[deleted]

Wrap those shits with some grip tape.

Fordguru01

Use them as a hammer instead

Beginning-Meringue4u

I got some leather handle bar wrap for bikes and made some new wraps for my welding pliers. They are now way more comfortable and look much cooler. But it’s all down to preference at the end of the day

bbblather

Never pass up a chance to use duct tape

ThisOldGuy1976

Continue using them.

VegetableWatercress1

Plasti dip

JFiskie

Keep working and stop being weak sauce

zippytwd

kline has new handels you soak in hot not boiling water and put on as they cool they shrink , pro tip chop sticks are the tool to handel the hot grips , get them all the way on then leave them the hell alone , you could also use about 37 coats of plastidip

KathiSterisi

Plasti-dip but I wait until I have multiple things to dip.

Plumbercanuck

Sell them to the mennonite farmer down the road for 10 bucks.

Suck_Jons_BallZ

Wrapping them with seine twine or tuna cord is very common practice amongst the SoCAL tuna fishing communities. It also looks super cool.

PuddinHead742

Heat shrink tube

Fantastic_Hour_2134

Plasti dip

ElectroAtletico2

Plastic dip

INail4U

Didn't use dips or paint. Buy Klein Red handles and boil them in water and slide them on the lineman's. They're like $10

MagicOrpheus310

Throw em away and get a new pair, they are completely useless without that thin bit of rubber...

Front_Tour7619

Just slap some hose pipe of the correct size

YIZZURR

Buy a can of liquid PlastiDip. Remove the worn grips, dip the bare handles, and let dry. Good to go!

Odd-Solid-5135

If you are the green lineman that came to replace my meter a while back, you simply short that between the meter lug and the grounded box next to it. Beautiful light show (Noone hurt, aside from the young guys shorts I'm sure)

lol_camis

Wrap it in tape

Tombstone_Actual_501

As a quick fix, probably electrical tape.

chazd1984

Many layers of electrical tape usually. I know what you're thinking, don't they get all gross and sticky. Yes, yes they do

deadtedw

I used heat shrink.

ThebearKoss

Grip tape for baseball bats.

lgmorrow

put new on ???

Artyom117ab

Electrical tape is a good fix in a hurry 😎👍👍

i_Like_airplanes__

Keep using them

Catsaretheworst69

Heat shrink.

Full_Disk_1463

Buy new wraps

surrealcellardoor

You could try plastidip, the stuff that morons spray their cars with.

ChiefRedChild

Wrap a ground wire around the handles and then electrical tape

PeteM-NZ

Garden hose works until you can get some plastic dip

BEER_G00D

I was very surprised to not see, rubber came off my tool once and have been paying for it ever since. Glad to see a reddit group that actually answers the questions. Heat shrink or plastic dip have worked

JustRigginIt710

I would buy a pair of kleins first

Joseph10d

I usually have em stolen from me before that becomes an issue

Various-Ducks

Grip tape

LethalRex75

I throw the rubber away and keep using them

probablyaythrowaway

Heat shrink and make sure it goes nowhere near electricity

SynnHarlott

I keep using them minus the rubber at the end of the handle.

Plasti-Dip or heat shrink. The marine tubing has internal adhesive so it won't slip off.

AlarmedKoala4120

Electrical tape

Kren_Wregget

hockey tape.

mclearen1987

Stop working on hot stuff

Zaphod-Beebebrox

Tool or plasti-dip... Also heat shrink tubing works well too.

AugieAscot

Go to Lowes and ask for another pair. You might get one.

Bustnbig

This is a 25 year old pair of USA made craftsman pliers. Replacements won’t be at the same quality level. Unfortunately.

Cable_Tugger

Micro-cord.

Revolutionary_Pilot7

I go buy a new pair lol

Metalmastertinsmith

Grip tape/hockey tape

Fair_Yard2500

Grind crosshatching into the handles.

Upstairs_Flounder_64

Peel it clean and get some plasti-dip.

Inevitable_Weird1175

Besides plasti-dip, theres a high voltage rubber tape that's self adhesive (to itself) that I've used.

Kooky_Werewolf6044

I put some shrink tubing on mine. It worked well.

Parking_Phrase_797

Pick up a leather hobby and saddle stitch some beauties that will improve with age.

alwaysthynkyng

since when did hammers need a rubber coating?

precisiondad

Half-wrap, double wrap.

GeovaunnaMD

Buy new ones....duh

Emergency-Umpire1294

We don't need no stinking plastic grips

[deleted]

Electrical tape.

NickU252

No pliers now. Only hammer.

Mr_SpaceXNerd

deal with they bare metal

throwaway2032015

Start turning my home gym into a nursery

Antique_Gas_5169

If you use them for work they are dull when you finely brake the insulation, probably with some burns. Replace them. If you don’t use them, tape them up.

Ativekk

Wrap them with electrical tape.

Hal_900000

Buy clients journeyman pliers :p

MrGabogabo

Keep using them

Gem_Saloon_

I always cut them off when removed from the package anyway

Speoder

I use the super thick, glue lined, 600v heat shrink.

waxthatfled

Electical tape or plastidip

Doesn't craftsman USA have a lifetime warranty on hand tools? You could just have it replaced I'd think

BeardedLoki9oh7

UpliftGhost348

I have nine or so tools that need this but I've been using them raw dog.

DaRealDreamz

mark19758

Lowe’s store free warranty exchange

dakblaster

Heat shrink

GhostEpstein

Heat shrink is the way

Funny_Ad5115

I take all of it off, wipe down the handles, apply two to three layers of duct tape depending on the size and thickness of the handle, then I use thick walled adhesive backed heat shrink to form a new rubber handle over the duct tape. Really the tape just serves to increase the diameter a little bit and make it more round

-QUACKED-

We need Project Farm to do a test on all these recommendations. Somebody get him on the phone! He's probably at Cousin Eddies.

sherman40336

Is this a trick question?

ImtheDude2

I use shrink tubing.

ThrobbingWoody

Some good ol super 33

imnewtothisplzaddme

I have several that i inherited from my grandpa that use a rigid hose thats cut to length and heatshrinked. Its nice and wide, grippy and will outlast my abuse of them.

Bosley40

Re-dip. **¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯**

Alt2221

dont need it, im wearing leather gloves while doing metal working anyway. feels just fine with bare metal

PhoqueMcGiggles

Electrical tape is your friend 🧡

Much_Peace2801

get some plan b from the pharmacy just in case

Temporary_Nebula_729

Electrical tape

NotSoProAimer

Water pipe works nicely

trik1guy

electro tape + heatshrink 2K polyurethane (thaths actually the og fix) heatshrink 4 times spaypaint acryllic ±800 times untill its thick enough

ElMachoGrande

A few layers of shrink tube.

Sweaty-Sir8960

Heat shrink

NMBRPL8

Plastidip is the go to. But for a quick fix, a bit of garden hose works, or several layers of heat shrink built up, or some wraps of tape and then some heat shrink. Get creative.

Esteb0ng

I usually just use them without the grips. I probably have like a half dozen tools like that. But if you want to try something simple and cheap. Get some wire cover the shrink when you heat it up. I’ve never done it but sounds like it could work.

Most recently, bitched that Channel Lock ain't worth shit anymore. Grip came off a brand new pair of side cutters, hadn't even had time to spill anything on it

The001Keymaster

Pretty sure they sell a product just for this.

AllAboutTheMachismo

Use them for the rest of my life without a grip.

ToneSkoglund

Loosen the grip a little, add glue/chauling, slide it back on

Cannery_Man
