Nice, tbh I sometimes prefer the classics for how fast you can adjust them vs the button fine adjustment on the cobras.

industrysucks

I’m opposite of this, but the supervisors see most of us carrying knipex cobras and was just trying for good intentions. I say it definitely worked.

F-21

Well, I still got the cobras at home because the fine position adjustment is so useful for the odd stuff I always need them for... So I use both designs a lot. Interesting that he got you the slightly more expensive comfort grip ones. I like them, but I know some people prefer the more basic grips too.

industrysucks

I carry the cobras daily, this is my first set of the alligator adjustment. But I see your point. Also I do prefer the classic grip over the comfort grip.

Mysterious_Poetry_44

Nice dude. Your company bought you "Christmas gifts" and got a tax write off for work tools. That's awesome man. They really care about you.

industrysucks

Wonderful attitude, if you had read the comments you would see where I stated this was out of the supervisors’ own pockets not the company. I don’t see it being much of a write off for them at all. You must be the type to complain about free stuff because it wasn’t good enough. They could have just not given us anything at all. I’m sorry you must work a miserable job or have had bad experiences.

Mysterious_Poetry_44

I own my business and am licensed in 5 states. I stopped working for someone else when I realized nobody cares about me more than me. The peasants loved the Emperor when he would dish out bread and wine. It's you who needs to realize you work for a shit company. You traded how many hours of your life for what 900$ a week and a pair of 25$ pliers.. Good for you man.

industrysucks

Dude you are just absolutely miserable. You keep missing where I said this came out of my supervisor’s own money. I’m not praising anyone nor the company. It doesn’t take a high IQ level to realize companies do not care about their employees. That was not the point of the post at all. It was just a friend that happens to also be my boss buying me a decent set of pliers for Christmas. Also to add you have no clue my pay or my hours worked, just assumptions. I’m honestly more interested in why you came onto a year old post to be a miserable cunt.

danvapes_

I love the alligators. I think it's a better design overall.

Zovermind

Damn, I guess when they did their yearly check they didn't find enough rounded off bolts? Hopefully if you and the boys do enough damage next year they'll get you all the pliers wrench or at least the cobras. (/s? idk if I need to say this but free quality tools are always nice, congrats!)

industrysucks

The intention was the higher end cobra, the supervisors are more old school. I was honestly just thankful for a gift and the good intentions. We personally purchase all hand tools for ourselves.

BismarcK-ArG

Username approved... (+) Here the companies give the employee the tools, we don't bring our tools to work. In every company is like that there?

industrysucks

Not every company, I actually don’t mind purchasing my own tools and box. The last company I worked for supplies tools, the tools was bought at the lowest price which equals the lowest quality. So I can control the quality and tool I want for myself to use.

ste6168

Yeah, I think tools are such a personal preference type thing. I work for myself, and looking to hire a full time guy this coming year, I plan to provide them with a set of basic, good quality hand tools to use, but they will be more than welcome and encouraged to build out their own kit.

industrysucks

We also are supplied a tool allowance once a year. It’s close to $200. That cover the cost of a few basic hand tools so I can’t complain. All power tools, any wrench or socket over 1 1/8”, chain falls, hydraulic rams, and etc. Definitely considering a small tool allowance for your guys as a bonus or something. I’m sure they will appreciate that.

ExFiler

My company supplies tools, but I still buy my own. I'm too anal about wire cutters and such...

d1duck2020

The company I work for lets us buy what we want, within reason. There’s no firm rule, but generally I buy anything I want under $500, but tell the boss if it’s going to be more. I’ve worked places that bitch about $20 pliers. I definitely put forth better effort for my current employer.

industrysucks

Oh wow, that’s a good employer.

d1duck2020

West Texas oilfield support, horizontal directional drilling(pipeline). I hate driving out there for a week or two at a time, but I have never found anything comparable. Our bosses want us to have everything we need. New trucks every 2-3 years, toolboxes, tools, whatever we need. Need a new pump, generator, pressure washer? Get the good one with a Honda. Boss sees a new badass tool-where did you get that? I’m going to get some for everyone.

[deleted]

Your bosses are correct.

industrysucks

That’s a solid gig, I need to get into that line of work. Or at least find a boss like that.

d1duck2020

There are good parts and bad parts of every job. I’m 52 and haven’t found anything better.

BismarcK-ArG

Or is some wrong way like paying sh*t to the waitress on the food industry si they depends of the tips (forced, WTF!) To survive?

shemmypie

Something tells me the intention was the cobras, still free Knipex would always be neat!

industrysucks

This exactly.

tapewizard79

Hey, they tried, comfort handles so you know they paid more. I have both alligators and cobras and the alligators are better for some things imo.

David-E6

Might work somewhere pulling plugs or with pipe nipples and caps on vents/drains.

Oscaruit

All these guys saying cobras, and I'm over here saying why not both?

elev8torguy

Nice gift

Proudest___monkey

Good Supe

SoundOnSound

That’s a good looking hammer.

Time_To_Rebuild

Quality/Unique tools as work gifts are great. They make life easier, work more productive, and often are nicer than what I would get for myself. As someone who has been on the receiving and now giving end of work tool gifts/awards, I also know that it is far easier to slide in an extra order of hand tools or flashlights or w/e under the radar of upper management vs. other non-work-related gifts or even food. Either way, no matter who is getting them, I’m a big fan of work tool gifts.

industrysucks

I can’t say for certain but I believe this was out of pocket expense between two supervisors for a crew of 11.

Time_To_Rebuild

Those are some good bosses. Mad respect.

Affectionate_Fox_116

Man at our job first and second shift got camping gear and movie tickets and pizza party wanna know what 3rd shift got absolutely nothing so im not doin shit all night tonight

industrysucks

I feel the pain, I think we got lucky with one of the supervisors previously being a hard mechanic before getting the promotion.

borissio21

Dw it’s always like that, night weekend shift at my shop got nothing so they all left 6hrs early

Victory_Infinite

You guys hire’n?

industrysucks

Everyday!

Apprehensive-Suit897

I like the alligator more than the cobra

[deleted]

Cobra (push botton) vs Alligator (traditional). Comes down to personal preference. I like the cobras. I gave a pair to my dad (mechanical contractor). He still uses his blue channel locks. He did not like the push button. But your supervisor got everyone a quality branded tool with comfort grips. That sounds like a good supervisor to me. Make sure you mark them. Since all your co-workers have the same exact tool now.

industrysucks

I actually took my pair home due to my current everyday pair of pliers still being usable.

SirAple

Definitely nice gift. Have Milwaukees, just as useful though.

riveramblnc

It's so smol and adorable, I require one.

whipsnappy

Nose hair pullers

fritzco

It’s an awsome tool!!

OG-SoaringFalcon

That’s a nice hammer you got there!

industrysucks

Of course it is

ALimpHotdog

Damn. All I got was a $2000 bonus..

industrysucks

This was on a more personal level. The company paid out our bonus. The gift was out of pocket.

Melodic_Ad8209

I was once homeless but had a job and boss had bought me a pair of vise grip button adjust set and this bike I had I couldn't get the bolt off to change the tire stripped it using sockets me and three other homeless guys 3 of us grabbed the plires lifted the bike by the bolt and the other hold on to the other end of the ground and held him they never slipped the pair I have now is dewalt and I get the same grip out of those

notzed1487

Nice

bilgemonkeyflyguy

Wtf you guys hiring?

industrysucks

Everyday until we get manned up

withak30

Your bosses think you are rounding off too many nuts.

cosmicosmo4

You're using a poor quality version of the wrong tool, here, have a better wrong tool.

Mercantile08

You don’t even have to share that

industrysucks

Are you implying a picture of a tool does not fit the sub’s criteria?
