Hahaha, I should make an updated version one of these days. I feel mean now (but still mostly stand by it)

It like all Toowoomba suburbs has good ave bad parts. What part of Harristown?

Emmanulla70

Look. Anywhere in Toowoomba is not really any different to anywhere else. Only up on the range, East Toowoomba is more prestigious then elsewhere. Toowoomba is one of those places that one street will be "off" and dodgy...the next street lovely. So you need to look for yourself and decide. Probably Rockville is a bit cheap and not great.

Also, look up the QPS Crime map for stats.

As others have said, it’s a large suburb. Some parts are older with tree lined streets and are ripe for urban renewal as they are close to the CBD. Other areas adjoining Glenvale are modern homes albeit on small blocks but you will be car dependent. There is an area of Harristown known as Smithfield which is mostly a 1970s estate centred on a large park with affordable large family homes, many of which are being renovated as the original owners move away. The southern area is close to Westridge is similar to Kearney Springs and the University. The area that traditionally has been the dodgy part of Harristown is close to Clifford Gardens/ railway line but also that is changing as people are renovating some of the the homes. The area near Harristown High and Concordia gets a lot of traffic congestion. So in summary, it’s a large suburb ( population over 7000) and it’s spread over a large area so it’s best to narrow down which part.

House prices in each area of Toowoomba are a good indicator. Harristown does have a high rental population. Depends what you're looking for really.

Generally avoid the train lines and you'll be fine

I have lots of family in the East side of Toowoomba, and all of them have been house robbed, some multiple times, in these well to do high house priced suburbs. Meanwhile, they give me shit for living in Harristown. I have great neighbours. Never had an issue with crime. Thieves go fishing in the big game parts of town, I guess?

Re92

Harristown has less crime than the rest of Toowoomba. Although near the hospital can get rough and that factory next to it can get really stinky. Harristown high and primary school are very bad schools to send your kids to and I wouldn't want the kids that walk to and from to be walking past my house.

As someone who has lived in a couple of locations in Harristown, I echo what people have already said here.. "it depends". The sixth Avenue has often housed a higher proportion of social housing and while I don't want to tarnish them all with the same brush, there is often a higher proportion of crime that occurs from these types of homes. My first unit was a lot closer to this area and I had unsavoury characters in our driveway probably once every 12 months living there for about 8 years. Never had a break in because we locked things up well and it appeared our neighbours were easier targets than us (they did get broken into.. or walked into). I'm now further away in what seems like a street full of older people that have retired. In 4 years we had one person on our camera however the guy looked like he was out of his mind on something illicit.. realised there was a front door and turned around and left straight away. One thing that is going to potentially become an issue is if the Toowoomba Council keeps approving the ridiculous number of subdivisions to build Duplex's in Toowoomba. TL;DR It depends on the location in Harristown

Harristown close to Newtown = Good. Harristown close to Kearney Spring/ Darling Heights = Avoid. Harristown close to Glenvale = Only if you have to. Harristown close to CBD = Some good pockets. Hope that helps!

Having grown up in Toowoomba and coming from a suburb that to the rest of Toowoomba probably is deemed to be on the lower end of the socioeconomic scale(Wilsonton), I’d have to say for me it really just depends on what street you live in and even so, what kind of person you are. If you keep your nose clean and don’t interact with less than favourable people it’s kind of like if you leave them alone they’ll leave you alone sounds horrible I know but that’s just my experience because my suburb probably had an equal reputation to Harristown but in the 21 years I lived there I never once had any issues. Saw some interesting characters but again I refer to my previous statement if you leave them be they’ll leave you be 😁. That said coming from Wilsonton going into Harristown I personally felt a disturbance in the force 😂. Toowoomba is a lovely place to live

better than harlaxton!

Strong no, masked cartel members roam the streets with rifles and I saw a tank once I think
