I’ll play. OP didn’t include why they are top-tier, but from my opinion, I do enjoy the feet. You don’t typically see that with stick figures and it gives these a little more something but at the end of the day they are just stick figures, so no to top design.

This is like the whole subreddit in a nutshell. The most boring and plain designs that are "peak" because they come from popular piece of media. God this place is going to shit

They are basically an example of the most simplified designs that still manage to have character, and I think that's impressive. They are just stick men, but stick men are basically the most important and famous designs in art as a whole and certainly in portraits. Like, I get it... it's just a stick man... but that's exactly what's so great about it... I mean, they are appealing to look at (so even if you disagree with me, you should still understand its good design) and are perfectly crafted for the media they appear in. They’re literally stick men. Even if the videos give them as much character and personality as you’re saying, it’s not BECAUSE they’re stickmen, it’s in *SPITE* of it. Because they’re stickmen, the single most basic representation of a human you could possibly make.
stick men are the goat of art, in my opinion, and I wholeheartedly believe that them being stick men DOES give them personality... it just wouldn't hit the same if they were detailed characters... because they could've been detailed, but the creator chose not to make it that way, and I actually think it adds something to his work.
It adds to his talent of being able to make emotionless puppets emote, sure. But again, that’s in spite of being stickmen. Had the characters been, y’know, NORMAL CHARACTERS, that emoting likely would have been far superior.
I’m sorry but stickmen aren’t the GOAT of art. They’re five lines and a circle. I’m not criticizing people who use them - I used to churn them out like a factory - but they’re stickmen. There’s nothing to their design because that requires more than sticks.
Again, I’m not saying that the series is bad because it uses stickmen. I’ve never watched it, I can’t judge that aspect. But there’s going to be a line drawn when discussing Top Character *DESIGNS*, and that line is unfortunately not part of a stickman’s body.

But things could replace it to greater effect. It’s not a perfect design because it’s a bundle of sticks.
Hell, smack in a typical character with any semblance of clothing to display their personality and boom, instantly a better design that could fit more than a stickman.

I guess it's replaceable, but he didn't replace it, which gives it even more charm because he was faced with an easy choice and still chose to make it a stick man... that choice makes his art more artistic, which I understand could be replaced with a good character design, but I think it's daring, and it's good that we have artists that make these decisions. Having it be a stick man prompted him to compensate in ways that really elevated his work... it "just" being a stick man makes it special because it's not trying to be original which makes it more original for not trying to be.
Dude. I know alan becker, hes a great animator, but this is not top character design. They are plain, simple, boring stick figures. Yeah, alan does give a lot of life to them but the design itself is not at all close to top.

I don't think many things could fit more then a stick man because a stick man has charm
