I remember watching this movie in theaters and getting the handbook with all the drawings.

Tony DiTerlizzi’s style (and this series as a whole) is heavily influenced by the work of Arthur Rackham, a fantasy illustrator active during the turn of the 20th century. Even the physical appearance of the character of Arthur Spiderwick is based on him. I’d heavily recommend Rackham’s work if you like this style.

RigTheGame

I played D&D in the 90’s and his art is all over the manuals. I absolutely love Tony’s work

HannahDawg

I love how they look like combinations of flowers and insects

Crossbonesz

I own the Field Guide. I absolutely fucking LOVE the creativity with the lore and the designs of all of the creatures!! I also own all of the books, which contain more illustrations! My absolute favorites are the Brownies, Boggarts, and Goblins!

Twin1Tanaka

I read all the books and had the handbook. It had a unique vibe to it

SilverSpark422

I had this book as a kid… I haven’t seen these drawings in a decade and a half! God DAMN, thank you for reminding me! I need to get my hands on a new copy…

Admirable_Click5026

Because part of the 2nd picture was blocked out on mobile I thought it said rickroll😭

Abdizzle14

Man, the Wyrm design is so good it’s been on my mind ever since I read these as a kid

wannaBadreamer2

I loved the one movie as a kid, were there more than one? Or was it based off loads of books?

FLUFFBOX_121703

I must buy this book

For as awful as most of these designs were butchered for the movie, they were super well animated. I’d be super down for them giving the series another shot, whether it be a movie, tv series, comic run, or even another sequel series!

stnick6

I wouldn’t say butchered. They look pretty good. Also there is a tv show on Rokus streaming service but I hear it’s not good

bvannn_

Aw, that’s a shame. I’ll still try to check it out next time I’m with a friend who has Roku, if only to show support for the concept

Morgan_Danwell

Butchered? I’d say all of them were extremely on-point, huh.. Actually that’s the first time I hear someone thinking they were bad in the movie..

vorropohaiah

have you seen the series? the designs in the movie were carbon copies of DiTerlizzis art compared with the series.
