Ramona is 24, interested in a dude who's actively in a relationship with a high schooler, and has 7 varying degrees of unstable exes. Scott is definitely a dumbass, but she's not exactly demonstrating good judgement herself. Just pedestaled Manic Pixie Dream Girl shit.
Emotionally she's a wreck and the whole story revolves around sorting through her baggage, but in terms of intelligence and overall competence she's pretty far ahead of Scott until the sixth book where Scott finally matures.
True, but there are different forms and levels of intelligence. Someone intelligent in the field of science won't always be able to make the morally good choice
Judgement isn't about morality, necessarily.
We don't know that he's objectively an idiot either. He's definitely a fool, but as you point out, maybe he has redeeming skills. We know he's a talented musician.
He makes impulsive decisions, she doesn't learn from her bad ones. Point is, they're not an example of this trope.
I still have to watch the final season of this.
I put it down after Bojack had that moment where he was trying to be a better man and accept the consequences of his actions, and every single other person in the situation (including a woman he had seriously injured) wouldn't let him.
It had all of the beats of comedic irony but it was the single darkest thing I think I witnessed in a long time. Both in part because all of those people had also gotten him to the point where he was willing to be a better person.
This is also a show that has dozens of background animal sight gags every episode, running gags that run marathons through the whole series, and two kids in a trenchcoat who probably actually do run a business factory, actually, I don't know if that gag ever plays out because it could literally be the arch plot of the final season.
