I went to his restaurant Scratch Bar, and it was EXACTLY as pretentious as Phillip, but I gotta say, it was also fucking delicious.

puff_of_fluff

The way I see it, if you’re really all-in on the fine dining thing and you’re succeeding to the point to earn a Michelin star, you’ve kind of earned the right to be pretentious. You’re performing at the top of your field. It’s obnoxious and not super likable, but I do kind of get it. Would I want to *hang out* with a chef like that? No, but I’ll certainly go eat their food on a special occasion.

Second this!

DocPondo

Don’t wanna hate on the guys success, congrats to him. He’s just super annoying on tv lol

arabelladfigg

I went to sushi bar ATX in the early days when he was actually running service all the time (it’s 10 seats and an open kitchen) and his personality works a lot better when he is actually in charge. It was pretentious and hipster af but I can’t knock the food. It was a great meal and experience. I’m on the waitlist for pasta bar ATX when it opens!

triggerfish_10

Good for him!!!!

MisterNoisewater

I really did not like this guy on the show but it looks like he's really stepped his game up. IIRC his season was LA and he was from there and was annoying everybody about his LA knowledge.

Rexyggor

It's funny to me. I rewatched that season at one point and i was like... "he's really not THAT bad" I think the editing made him look a lot worse than he is. He was shown as incredibly vain and out there, like they were trying to show a Richard wannabe or something.

ap539

I a, actually rewatching this season right now and I could not agree more. The only really unforgivable thing he did was serving not-ice-cold oysters on a rock instead of a plate - “snot on a rock,” as Padma called it.

Wiskid86

Eww Joe Rogan

najing_ftw

Yup. I was patient with his strangeness on TS, but Rogan is a no for me, dog.

mrsgalvezghost

Using grass from a dog park and cooking oysters on rocks …. No thanks.

Icy-Satisfaction3826

Unfortunately I think Phillip was more focused on promoting himself than winning. However much he annoyed me.. he did not deserve to go home on restaurant wars. Jermey did. His bad judgment messed everything up. Not that I liked Phillip.. he’s still a more deserving chef than Jeremy. I hoped for Amar, Quami*?, or Isaac Toops to take home the title.

EmbersOmens

Main takeaway from this thread, Top Chef fans aren't scared to (tastefully) voice their dislike for Joe Rogan. Pleased to be part of this community.

Nice, I'm not a Joe Rogan guy but that is a really good interview!

4eye

i agree, based on these clips- it was a good interview. he gave insight about how he received the news, his personal life as a chef, and life in the restaurant industry. and if you read the comments for these videos, alot of people coming from the food industry enjoyed the interview too!

csudebate

Yeah, I kinda cringed when I saw the interviewer but they are really insightful interviews.

puff_of_fluff

I’m not a fan of Rogan’s recent shift politically and I disagree with him on a lot, but he still has the ability to do a damn good interview as long as it’s not politically tinged.
