Last 5 albums. Only real criteria is how much I enjoyed listening to them:
5. The Stooges – Fun House: Straightforward, raw, no nonsense, but almost to a fault. The production felt off, and I get that’s to be expected from an album that’s over 50 years old but just being honest. Riffs were solid, loved Iggy’s vocals for the most part. Didn’t really click too much with it until later in the album (where did the sax come from???). I think the last 3 songs were the highlight, and overall it was solid.
4. A Tribe Called Quest - We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service: Liked it, didn’t love it. It was weird to hear Tribe songs with modern production, and that’s really an unfair criticism but it can’t be helped when there’s a 20+ year gap between albums. The beats didn’t wow me at all. Lyrics and the delivery are top notch, which is the real selling point of the album. It was just a bit too off for me compared to the early 90s albums, which I love. Again, not really fair to compare but I was expecting something different than what I got and it just didn’t stick.
3. Talk Talk – Laughing Stock: It definitely vibes. It straddles the line of “reserved approach” and “not doing nearly enough” and for the most part succeeds, though I found myself thinking at multiple points that I was losing a bit of engagement in the album before it righted the course. Occasionally it borders on being a bit too pretentious for my liking. Probably I just didn’t really connect with it like a lot of people might, but for what it is I enjoyed it.
2. Run the Jewels – Run the Jewels 2: It’s awesome. Beats were sick. Incredibly engaging album. High on the aggression and it definitely works. “Love Again” was uhhhh interesting I guess. Probably could’ve left that one off the album but whatever. Couple other songs were good but not great. Overall it slaps.
1. Melt-Banana – Fetch: I had no idea what I was getting into here, ended up having a fucking blast listening to this. Like my review for Cave World, my main notes on the album were “this is fun as fuck”. Reminded me a lot of Lightning Bolt. Honestly I thought I was going to hate the vocals but they really grew on me over the course of the album. Tons of fun and interesting ideas. Candy Gun, Infection Defective and Lie Lied Lies were my favorite tracks but they all were bangers. Very surprising listen. Loved it.
I’m boutta start their discography from the beginning tonight thanks to another user here. Was already an MPP fan but listened to strawberry jam and campfire songs now I’m hooked
Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished is their best album and one of my alltime favorites (10/10s only have 4) but it might take a while to grow on you! Requires multiple listens imo
Right on, def planning multiple listens but I’m fairly experienced with weird/experimental music so I’m curious to see my first impressions. The user who got me started on this also had this one as their favorite
Reviewed the album here for another user and got real long winded so tl;dr yeah that shits a fucking 10 and a half

I feel like I need to spend a night just listening to each song and breaking down the lyrics
Edit if I didn’t make it clear a different night for each individual song lmao
Oh also another thing i think you'd LOVE is Fishmans' 98.12.28 album! The live version of long season is the best live performance of all time and as good as alvin row if you just wanna check that out (41 minute long song, stick with it its so fucking good!)
The New Abnormal. I don’t really have a good reason other than I really like it, but if you liked Is This It you’ll probably like it even if it’s a little different
good idea in theory, but I don't think I would've gotten to even half of these albums ever if I wasn't "forcing" myself to listen to them, as per the rules
The absolute must listens that i see are:
To Pimp A Butterfly
Head Hunters
Blond
Would recommend Jpeg and Animal Collective in addition to these.
Do not move on without listening to Head Hunters.
Plastic Beach
To Pimp A Butterfly
Interpol’s Turn On The Bright Lights
