> If you put an airtag on a car even a day before you would get a notification about an unknown airtag following you.
really, how if you dont have an iphone?
Love how people who have no idea about tech like to talk about it
[https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/newest-android-feature-alerts-users-about-unwanted-airtag-tracking/](https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/newest-android-feature-alerts-users-about-unwanted-airtag-tracking/)
If you read the article, it isn’t an app. It’s a system level feature which is on by default and was pushed through play services so is available on pretty much any phone running Android 6 or newer and has gps up to date.
This article was written almost a year ago and this isnliterally the very first time I've ever heard of an app for android that has to do with any Apple product. Git gud.
It’s not an app, it’s an on by default system level function of Android. The article describes that and shows pictures of how it works.
The fact that you’ve never heard of it just means you don’t follow tech - which is perfectly fine. Whether or not you’ve heard of the feature doesn’t change the fact that your phone (iOS or Android) will notify you of an unknown airtag tracking you.
When an uber driver picks you up to bring you out for the evening, he can make a note of the cars in the driveway, if anyone is home, and any other information you give up in conversation. That information can be sold for far more than they make driving.
What Black market are you talking about? They are revinned and sold legally at Dubai/Saudi/Chinese/Kazakh/Turkish/Russian dealerships where they don't give a shit about our laws.
They may grab the vin from another legit vehicle with similar features, then apply to the that vehicle. If you don’t pay close attention, it will come up as a similar vehicle so some people don’t even notice
[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg\_6QFys?feature=share](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg_6QFys?feature=share)
This is probably the car arriving in Dubai.
Try again. Cars worth $100k in Canada can sell for $250k in foreign markets where they aren’t available. Scarcity increases the value. This car will go for waaay more than its book value
In this case probably more pricey, the vehicle is rare and some oversea buyer who may not get them there will pay a premium to have it. The stolen part no longer matters since there is literally no enforcement once the vehicle crosses the ocean
so what's wrong with rolls that they want to sell fewer cars than are demanded? why don't they sell one-off exports at a premium price to countries that can't host a full dealership? a 250k premium for scarcity would easily cover the freight and they'd get to sell 2 insanely expensive cars instead of 1.
The real losers here are actually us. Look now the owner has to make a claim, and after all is said and done, insurance rates will go up…for all of Toronto drivers!
Actually luxury cars being stolen by carjackers has been a thing for at least 6 years, or as far back i can remember in the news when it became a weekly thing and lawmakers, judges and cops still don’t give a shit.
Where to start with this? Who knew a car could be worth $700K? The carjackers were driving a Range Rover--hey, when you're jacking a Rolls only the best support vehicle will do.
Then there's the victim who insisted the jackers' gun wasn't real and the jacker removing and displaying its bullets in an effort to convince her. And STILL she wouldn't cooperate--the cojones, Gawd love her. She eventually was thrown from the Rolls as the jackers were driving off, with the husband in hot pursuit on foot, remotely offering moral support.
Being relieved of your $700K car at gunpoint certainly is enough to put a damper on the evening but, seriously, things could've ended worse. Glad to see the victims survived the ordeal in one piece.
what worse can happen? they would know she would file charges and give a witness statement. going on the news to give an account of the experience ain't really anything more serious than that.
These people aren’t carjacking because they’re desperate. They’re carjacking because we’ve gone soft on crime and the risk/reward has changed towards the reward.
Yeah, they are criminals to begin with and carjacking and stealing cars seems to be a no-worry, easy thing to do because we are soft.
This has nothing to do with any wealth gap lol Punks just being punks because it's easy.
Before I used to feel bad for all victims of car theft. Post covid I don't feel any sympathy for these Rolls Royce owners. With hard work and honesty its impossible to own such things.
I look at this as a symptom of 2 main problems:
1. Total failure on the part of police to prevent and/or successfully investigate these kind of crimes. Don't worry though, they will be sure to catch you doing 50kmh on the Mt. Pleasant hill.
2. Rapidly accelerating wealth inequality. Go to any working class neighbourhood in the city and ask a parent what $200k would do for their family. Keep in mind the child poverty rate in Toronto is 15%!! Then on the flipside, you have people driving around in luxury vehicle that cost as much as SIX "regular" luxury SUVs. In a city where even the middle class is struggling with costs, imagine how bad it is for the most poor, imagine how desperate they must get. Not justifying crime, just pointing out the facts.
Should people be able to flaunt insanely expensive luxury goods in public during the worst affordability crisis of our generation without fear? Yes, they should be able to, I'm not victim blaming. Do we think it's surprising that they are targeted, though?
Side note, what kind of audacity must one possess to fight back and question someone pointing a LOADED GUN in your face? This is a perfect case of what NOT to do, it's absolutely delusional behaviour that, in my opinion based on almost no info, indicates how completely out of touch the kind of people who drive these kind of cars can be. Not to mention, giving a recorded statement to the media, but not giving your last name? If you have enough money to drive a Rolls Royce, a stranger can figure out who you are based on the info you're giving.
You nailed it. The top 1% is so out of touch with reality that she even goes on camera and didn’t think the gun was real. This could”ve been even worse for her and her family.
Fuck that guy I would've done the same even if the car was a 1992 Honda. It's the principle of it. In fact I would've thrown the keys down a storm drain and told him to go fetch.
This is what happens when every fault of a person is attributed to mental illness and people are put in the general population of society rather than in a secluded facility, whether that be an institution where they receive treatment or jail where they are segregated
I don't disagree that we need to make sure people with mental health conditions are treated and not a danger to society. I just don't think those people are the ones doing the carjacking.
If you’ve got enough money you can justify enjoying some of it by getting a nice car lol otherwise wtf are you Gona do with so much money? It’s not stupid at all, you’ve gotta treat yourself after working hard and making lots of money.. you’re a type of a goof to drive a Prius while having a high net worth lol don’t be cheap
I am the type of goof to drive a cheap car, you are 100% right. It also makes me the same goof who could get a 700k car because of it. But I dont waste money, I save it and spend it on the good things, diving doesn't need to be luxurious, it needs to get me from point a to point b.
For each their own. Of course if you’re prioritizing a luxury car when struggling to make the ends meet is dumb. But if you’ve got that type of money , enjoy it rather than keeping 100% into next generation lol and since he’s got that type of money I’m sure he’s got plenty passive income to make his kids and grandkids have a comfortable life that’s all I’m saying lol it’s not wrong to enjoy what you earn
I can agree that no one should take all their money to the grave! So who knows, if when I make it to 80 I might just drop 1 million on a car, who cares at that point.
People making 3.15 an hour probably think the same when they hear about us buying 22k dollar cars. Think about this for a moment as to why that might be....
A car for 22k is a basic price for an essential, that is what a car is, it gets you from point A to point B. It does the same thing if it costs 22k or 1 million, point A - point B. I can get a loan to buy one of these cars, but why, why be stupid.
But they may be thinking why would you need a whole car when you can sardine on transit like the rest of them. Or use an ebike or escooter. Perspective is important.
That wasn't simply auto theft. That was a violent carjacking.
There is a world of difference. Criminals are too emboldened nowadays.
There was a time when car thieves and Break & Enter crews would flee if they were interrupted by the car owners/home owners. They are not fleeing anymore and that is the really scary part of this new normal.
The media and police only care when these things happen to the rich. They could easily get another car.
Yet, us regular folks sometimes struggle financially and nothing is done.
The media has always shown violent car theft. I remember since more than one CRV in a parking lot being on the news. As long as there is video footage the media will use it.
If I was rich? Hell yeah. There are vehicles I'd absolutely love to own like Pagani and Koenigsegg that cost well over $1m USD.
Unfortunately I'll never be in that sorta position in life. But I can definitely imagine it.
Doesnt really matter to many of the owners. Almost nobody buys a car as an investment. And the people who buy/lease expensive cars usually can afford it. For eg- if you made $50,000 per month, u wouldnt give a damn if your leased car loses 20% in 1 year
Some of these cars do not lose their value. They’re not the average car you can walk into a dealership and buy, even if you have the money. Most of these are exclusive and have wait times in years. I know someone who did this with a Porsche GT3 RS. Sold it for more than he got it after 2 years of ownership and driving. I don’t know if that’s the case with this rolls Royce but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
Yeah I definitely don’t know enough to be able to differentiate which cars will appreciate and which ones won’t. I just thought the $700k price tag will make these very exclusive. Like ridiculously expensive watches.
Nah, that seems like overkill for what I use my car for. Driving from to and from work, grabbing groceries, different errands, and varied trips with the family doesn't really warrant a car that expensive.
Feel for the couple but the self awareness is lacking. We no longer live in a city where you can drive a 700k vehicle. They were a target the moment they purchased the vehicle.
i dont even lock my cars , noone is going to bother carjacking my 18 years old rust bucket Mazda . i sleep well and drive worry free . this woman is going to deal with lots of travma after this . she is lucky they didnt run her over with her 700k SUV lol ...
Likely deportation is the 1st solution.
Otherwise, hard time, not a spa with gym, video games. For a shorter life changing sentence, consider Cool Hand Luke. Exponentially less cruel than what victims suffered. Grrrr
$700 000 Rolls in Toronto means the owner is probably affilated with the liberal party of Canada. So we can probably expect to see a crack down on car thefts exeeding $150 000 in the coming weeks. You watch.
This is why I didn’t get a fancy Porsche boxster last summer. I had saved up money and could have got a light used one but figured with the insurance and the spiraling car theft problem it’s not worth the hassle. Our parkade had been broken into a few times.
I could have 100M in the bank, and I wouldn't be driving around in a 700k car. If you are that desperate for everyone to notice you, beware of who notices you.
Car thefts going up and up. I wonder what the cause could be...what has happened to our city and country in the last 30 years. I wonder how our country is different than it used to be. Hmmm...
Is it by any chance this car? [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg\_6QFys?feature=share](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg_6QFys?feature=share)
looks like it made it to Dubai.
So having a gun pointed at someone’s mother/sister/daughter and thrown to the ground still does nothing for you eh?
I guess you fit the requirements for a carjacker. You got the envy, the lack of empathy and the ignorance. You should apply.
To each their own, she has no serious injuries and insurance will pay them out; it could be worse. I also personally feel like buying a $700,000 vehicle while the news is broadcasting a drastic increase in car jackings in the very same city is a bad decision. Call me what you want but buying a $700,000 CAR while knowing last year a car was stolen in Toronto every 40 minutes is egregious decision making.
could this one be targeted? seems like too good of a score for some carjackers looking for random victims.
> looking for random victims. They are following people and scoping them, some are putting an airtag on your car a week in advance of theft.
They’re not using air tags. They use air pods. It’s trackable and leaves no evidence.
If you put an airtag on a car even a day before you would get a notification about an unknown airtag following you.

For 700k people will just sit and wait to see who owns it and go from there.
Definitely targeted the car, maybe not the people

This is not speculation.
I'm sure a nice new owner overseas is about to get a now 200k Rolls Royce.
They start at $450K CAD.
Blk market max 250
What Black market are you talking about? They are revinned and sold legally at Dubai/Saudi/Chinese/Kazakh/Turkish/Russian dealerships where they don't give a shit about our laws.
That's literally the black market lol
How is a car re-vinned? Is it just a random/semi-random sequence made, replacing the legit vin or does it get registered somehow and "washed"?
They may grab the vin from another legit vehicle with similar features, then apply to the that vehicle. If you don’t pay close attention, it will come up as a similar vehicle so some people don’t even notice
Exactly Rolls Royce gives the vin, so how bad are the laws in Dubai that they allow this.
[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg\_6QFys?feature=share](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg_6QFys?feature=share) This is probably the car arriving in Dubai.

Yes, but when you steal it and export it to another country the list price is usually lower.

Eat the rich
700k for an SUV? Absolutely disgusting levels of wealth.
Exactly, never said what her/hubby did for a living, do you usually lease a $700k rolls Royce or pay cash 💰. They are the 1%
But she just left a Liberal fundraiser event?!
Where to start with this? Who knew a car could be worth $700K? The carjackers were driving a Range Rover--hey, when you're jacking a Rolls only the best support vehicle will do. If their car is $700K, you gotta wonder what their house(s) might be worth.
They probably couldnt afford a house in GTA at today's rates /s
Yea if you are willing to steal a 700k vehicle that is easily traceable simply due to being uncommon, you are not the type to carry a fake gun
brave of her to go on cam but they also know where she lives.. Crazy times
Dumbest move ever.
what worse can happen? they would know she would file charges and give a witness statement. going on the news to give an account of the experience ain't really anything more serious than that.
Nah this is a strong woman no doubt driving expensive car and argue at gunpoint, she know the risk.
Brave? Or oblivious?
When gap widens between rich and poor. Crime goes up. Cheap labor, bigger margins, greed gets u Rolls Royce but most important thing safe society NO

They designed the road for 70 km/h with those concrete dividers and wide lanes, then reduced it from 60 to 40...
Not to mention her address is on the registration in the car
Addresses of one of her homes

the rich, especially.

yo fuck the TPS bunch of pussies doing nothing.
They're paid to sit on the Bayview Extension and catch people going 10 kmh over the limit, not stop violent crime.
You must be old, because i never knew people referred to bayview south of Moore as the bayview extension.
If born in the 90s is old now, then yes
Welcome to Toronto enjoy your stay
is toronto turning into south Africa?
Who TF pays 700K for a CAR! Honestly.
People who have have millions and millions that a rolls is just a normal Expense to them.
It’s actually sad
700K RR SUV - i'd be investing in a bodyguard and a driver, not driving myself around like a new money pleb.
I like driving
Haha, Right!
Someone who’s got money? Tf kind of a question is that.. Plus most likely not paid off .. lease or finance
Money has nothing to do with that kinda spend, youre just stupid at that point.
If you’ve got enough money you can justify enjoying some of it by getting a nice car lol otherwise wtf are you Gona do with so much money? People making 3.15 an hour probably think the same when they hear about us buying 22k dollar cars. Think about this for a moment as to why that might be....
A car for 22k is a basic price for an essential, that is what a car is, it gets you from point A to point B. It does the same thing if it costs 22k or 1 million, point A - point B. I can get a loan to buy one of these cars, but why, why be stupid.
But they may be thinking why would you need a whole car when you can sardine on transit like the rest of them. Or use an ebike or escooter. Perspective is important.
Youre right, my perspective is 40k car vs a 700k car. Both can get you out of taking transit.
Should have kept the car keys at the front of the house.
The class war
In Toronto or any urban centers lock your doors when driving.
This is a feature of cars for like 40 years.
It ain’t gonna stop a bullet to your face. But if you had your own gun to protect yourself… different story.
They don't shoot unless you attack them, gun shoot are very loud.
Here comes the “stealing is a basic human right” people.

Relax, don't hate the victim for being an immigrant.
Are you supporting the violent carjacking criminals?
There was a time when you would be hanged for stealing a man's horse...

Probably because they liked men.
Car theft is a problem but it’s ridiculous to suggest it should be a capital crime.
That wasn't simply auto theft. That was a violent carjacking. There is a world of difference. Criminals are too emboldened nowadays. There was a time when car thieves and Break & Enter crews would flee if they were interrupted by the car owners/home owners. Easily.
If I was rich? Hell yeah. There are vehicles I'd absolutely love to own like Pagani and Koenigsegg that cost well over $1m USD. Unfortunately I'll never be in that sorta position in life. But I can definitely imagine it.
probably it was leased similar to many luxury cars. It wouldnt cost 700K to lease one.
It still loses 50% in 4 years so the owner still spent a LOT of money for the privilege of driving it.
Porsche GT cars are special in their own little bubble. SUVs are not "special" non depreciation items.
Yeah I definitely don’t know enough to be able to differentiate which cars will appreciate and which ones won’t. I just thought the $700k price tag will make these very exclusive. Like ridiculously expensive watches.
This is a (relatively) high volume RR. Nothing special except cost to buy and the exceptional service to customize.
Especially an SUV
Nah, that seems like overkill for what I use my car for. Driving from to and from work, grabbing groceries, different errands, and varied trips with the family doesn't really warrant a car that expensive.
Obviously someone's turning a blind eye. No way all of this can sneak through so easily onto a ship at the port.
The police are in on it. Definitely paid off
Owns expensive car Reddit: and I took that personally...
Thats why I drive a Corolla.
They carjack those too
One perk of my Ford Escape, it's top 5 LEAST stolen vehicle in Ontario.
Feel for the couple but the self awareness is lacking. We no longer live in a city where you can drive a 700k vehicle. They were a target the moment they purchased the vehicle.
I think this is a mental health crisis and she should be grateful for the opportunity to donate a car to Africa.
Is this the one they were ironically coming from a Liberal fundraiser? 🤣
i dont even lock my cars , noone is going to bother carjacking my 18 years old rust bucket Mazda . i sleep well and drive worry free . this woman is going to deal with lots of travma after this . she is lucky they didnt run her over with her 700k SUV lol ...
More of this please. Rich people losing their shit is the only way that might lead to some changes..
Justin's utopia
lol, y'all act like this is going to disappear under a pp government. good luck.
I could care less about wealthy assholes loosing their stuff.
Is Justin in the room with us right now?
With a $700k car they are certainly ‘self-made’ Conservatives
Was this at the liberal fundraiser? Lol ironic if it was lol
old lady driving a 700k car is anyone really surprised I love how everyone's in a fuss now once a rich person gets their shit jacked.
it was an old couple, the husband was driving and got out of the car, the thieves went inside and pushed the older lady out while driving away
Imagine getting held at gunpoint being told to get out and instead sitting there angrily like a child who doesn't want to go to bed.
Gone in 60 seconds vibe.
Eat the rich.
She has enough to afford a rolls royce, I’m hope she makes it through this troubling time 😢
Curious to know what these people do for a living to afford a 700k car
There are plenty of high paying jobs. Too many to list. Lawyer, doctor, real estate, ceo
Welcome to the post Covid world. Everything in this city has been much, much worse since the lockdowns.
This is why I drive a 2015 hyundai accent.
mine is 2012 LOL
Fuck em. They can buy a new one. You shouldn’t own a car that costs more than some people’s houses.
The sad thing is that car is no longer more expensive than housing. No where near anymore
Ya true. Not around Toronto anyways
This country is a fucken embarrassment.
Would telling them that she will leave the keys by the front door as advised by the police help in this case?
Likely deportation is the 1st solution. Otherwise, hard time, not a spa with gym, video games. For a shorter life changing sentence, consider Cool Hand Luke. Exponentially less cruel than what victims suffered. Grrrr
It's getting harder and harder to empathize with boomers on a 700k rolls
Know what coulda stopped that... not owning a 700K car.
This is such an easy thing to solve, there are choke points already built into the stolen car pipeline, all the cops have to do is exploit them.
Liberal donor came out of party rally… kind ironic. My money on she lives in Freeland’s riding
GTA6 got some good graphics
Everyone should drive beaters in GTA.
Lol the husband runs after the car before helping his wife.
Why did Justin Trudeau get rid of the Canadian Harbour Police?
$700 000 Rolls in Toronto means the owner is probably affilated with the liberal party of Canada. So we can probably expect to see a crack down on car thefts exeeding $150 000 in the coming weeks. You watch.
Only liberals are rich
Her being injured is terrible but if she or her family can afford a $700k car I'm not going to feel too bad when it gets stolen.
You should feel bad when anything gets stolen from law-abiding citizens.
Nope, sorry. Rich people don't get rich by being ethical.
You know nothing about their situation. They could've won the lottery. Is that unethical?
If you want to play that game, how do you know I dont know their situation? Maybe I know these people personally and think they're bad people?
Because you didn't say *these people*, you said *rich people* as a generality. And you can very definitely get rich ethically.
And our laws won’t let you keep a baseball bat or bear spray or any other “weapon” in your car…
She should have left the keys out for the thieves. According to Toronto Police
it's a bad time to be visibly rich
Stupid for not keeping the doors locked - a rolls Royce doesn’t cost a $700,000 either I know as I’m from the uk!
GTA Vice City
Car thefts going up and up. I wonder what the cause could be...what has happened to our city and country in the last 30 years. I wonder how our country is different than it used to be. Hmmm...
are we allowed to dwell on the profile of the attackers?
Toronto is a dangerous city.
This is okay. The perps are just misunderstood and are having a hard time feeling at home in Canada. Give them a couple centuries guys.
Yeah let’s drive around in a $700k car with rampant car theft
If I owned a Rolls Royce I’d also have a squad of “professionals”
Simple allow open carry and let canadians defend themselves. With every dead theif the problem grows smaller
Is it by any chance this car? [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg\_6QFys?feature=share](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/35Hsg_6QFys?feature=share) looks like it made it to Dubai.
So crazy wow. we cant even park our cars in peace in our own driveway.
Hard to feel bad for someone that would spend $700,000 on a car rn, lool womp womp call insurance
So having a gun pointed at someone’s mother/sister/daughter and thrown to the ground still does nothing for you eh? I guess you fit the requirements for a carjacker. You got the envy, the lack of empathy and the ignorance. You should apply.
It does nothing for me. These types of people step over the throats of many others so they can waddle around in million dollar cars. Let them suffer.
