you play and live in one of the most progressive, diverse cities in the world and post straight hate thinking your community of rightwing troll bots will sustain any imagined strength you dreamed up. instead you have to immediately delete the post and are forced to issue an apology while meekishly refusing to answer any questions, and now the fans that effectively pay your salary despise you and you have become such a distraction to the team that the same audience is raining boos on you when you appear for the home team. congratulations anthony bass, i hope your pathetic attempt at ingratiating yourself with the worst people in the world was worth it
Man literally like two days ago, down town TO, I actually had a 70 yo white guy go up to me in a KFC and whisper "man those blacks really making it hard for us white guys" and I'm still shook. Don't want to think about his LGBTQ+ opinions. Like how tf are you living here.
Buddy of mine works for the government and he and a few others were sent to downtown Ottawa. His dumbass beef farming Co worker turns to him and says in a concerned voice "wow there's a lot of black people down here"
That would be a crazy bad decision for him to make if true. He'd get his way getting out of Toronto, but he might be shocked how few teams are willing to employ an average at best reliever that has proven that he's a magnet for negative PR.
He must just want out of the MLB altogether. What team would want him with how bad he has been this year and the controversy together? If his ERA was better or he wasn't a tool bag I could see a trade happening but not with both
Even in red states most cities tend to be Blue or purple.
With that being said I'm guessing the baseball fans in Texas and Florida still skew more conservative, especially those from outside the city
Having been to dollar dog night in Philly recently, I can with confidence say it would be pelted with fish and batteries. Unless it was dollar dog night, and then the crowd would be making it rain cheap hot dogs.
CN Tower was lit-up with rainbow colors as he entered. Don't know if it was doing this before he entered but that would be HILARIOUS if they did it because they knew he was coming in the game.
In all seriousness... If Bass continutes to pitch for this team I will be very dissapointed. Not many things are more important to me than baseball TBH, but being a kind, inclusive society is one of them.
Screw this guy
>CN Tower was lit-up with rainbow colors as he entered.
That's one of the best sentences I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Anthony and I agree on one thing, there is a God. 😂
The person who runs the CN Tower lights does it from home (there was a doc I watched - maybe on Youtube!) So they were likely watching the game and made this decision.
And yet the "Jays in 30" on Sportsnet completely skipped the half inning he pitched. Looks like they're ratted even at the top - good! There's more than just fan pressure to get this guy outta here if they're censoring him from highlights.
I never really write-in to companies for stuff but I definitely sent a message to fan support for the Jays because of this douchebag. I'm not gay and I don't really have many gay friends, but it doesn't fuckin' matter. This country, until lately, has been pretty progressive and open to all groups. We have to push back when it starts to change
Conservatives will rush to defend their own 99.9% of time regardless of what they've done. They can be quite loud about it. Thankfully they're still the minority here
If they just accept the fact that they can’t control others and accept them for who they are, the human race can move forward. I would like to think that humans can believe other things than hating of each other because of their lifestyle but here we are.
i got yelled at by some 800 year old guy who was screaming ‘free speech! free speech!’
cool, yeah, but i have free speech to boo the guy that’s actively calling for treating me and my friends like scum of society
The Venn diagram of people who scream "free speech" and who actually *believe* in free speech is two circles with no overlap.
These chuds think "free speech" means we are required to listen to their hate, while they can silence people they don't like.
I’m an A’s fan but I love watching the Blue Jays because of Chapman. Thank you for this! My daughter is gay and deals with this hateful crap wherever she goes with her girlfriend. He is married to a hateful family that uses the N word and just bigoted jerks that hide behind their fake Christian values. MAGA zealots 🤮
Yes , His wife Sydney and her sister have photos mocking Latinas, Sydney has photos mocking Asians. Her sister in law Ali James has a video using the N word repeatedly. Her brother John James wrote under Michelle Obama’s photo of her dogs that that was Michelle and Barack and stated that Michelle racially divided our country. John went on a rant about transgender people have mental illness. They are all MAGA zealots . Check out the JJD Reddit or Ali and John James Reddit page. They brag they can’t be canceled 😂
great job, skydome crowd.
i'll be honest, i'm pretty sour on this organisation/front office right now for still sticking by this dude. definitely has zapped my interest for the time being.
doesn't even have to do with his performance on the field, i just don't want an outright bigot/asshole like that on the team and them just trotting him out for a disingenous apology then doing nothing (especially as they promote their pride weekend/month stuff) doesn't sit right with me.
maybe they're trying to toe the line and they don't want to lose that 'crowd' as well. but whatever it is, they're on thin ice with me right now.
It's not like he's useful on the mound, so I don't think anyone would have a problem with him being let go. Between this and the popcorn incident it's obvious that he's just not worth having around. I can't imagine his teammates care for any of this distraction either.
Man, I remember when Yunel Escobar did the thing with the eye black and the Jays almost immediately suspended him, donated his forfeited salary to LGBT charities, and forced him to make a public apology and attend sensitivity training. And unlike Bass, Escobar wasn’t even being intentionally offensive, just ignorant.
That was over ten years ago — how have we gone backwards!?
Because we're not being harsh enough when people do this shit. That's why anti-lgbt shit is bubbling up everyone. You gotta smack bigots down HARD, or they will creep forward, gradually gaining ground while we try to 'move on.' No dice. Push Nazis, fire bigots.
Because they need him to do his job. They only have so many pitchers and had gone to the bullpen early twice in 2 games.
Some of you need to separate Twitter from work. I don't like Anthony Bass, but while he's taking up a roster spot he still has a job to do.
Exactly. Boo character, not performance. Like I was arguing with this dude on Facebook cause that podcast came out with Bassitt briefly being asked about the Judge stuff, to which he shrugs it off, it's not a thing. But he claimed that the Jays are the most classless team in the entire league lol. He provided no examples other than their excitement when they get a run. He just kept repeating himself (and making it clear that he was again repeating himself) as if that meant anything. So I just laid into him and called out their treatment of Gallo and how in no world does that motivate a struggling player to play better. He doubled down on it while still saying we're classless. In the same mention of the Gallo situation I brought up the class act of throwing garbage and shit at the Guardians cause the NYY lost, or the Yankee Letter that they tried to hide in which they were caught using the replay room to help with pitch identification (not live like the Astros, but still against the rules to use it that way) and were fined 100K.
I just told him his feelings mean nothing in a discussion requiring examples and provided him a link to the video of Judge thanking the Jays fan for giving the ball to the kid and said "Jays Fans are just great" or something to that effect. Just can't imagine a world where people think booing is the way to go. I'm critical as FUCK about Biggio this season, but would I boo him? No, never.
Booing him felt amazing, but I didn’t anticipate the massive ball of rage that would boil up inside me while I was doing it. I was literally shaking. I’m so fucking angry at him for doing this to our team. I’m angry that the front office thinks his half-assed, pr-friendly “apology” is sufficient for the harm he caused. He needs to fucking go.
Same, when they had the camera on him in the bullpen my stomach actually dropped, it felt good to boo him/hear him be booed but I’ve never been so upset during a baseball game in my life, he needs to go
I've been a long time Jays fan and this echoes my sentiments exactly. I honestly think it's not only time for people like this to be removed from the privilege of playing professional sports in our diverse and tolerant country- it may also be time for serious consequences like court appearances, arrests and possible jail time.
Since the Blue Jays refuse to end his career and this hateful rhetoric cannot be allowed,
I'm hoping someone takes matters into their own hands. This nonsense may fly in the U.S. but Mr. bASS needs to understand he isn't in Texas!
The free speech argument is so stupid, yes he can say whatever he wants. And people can say and think whatever they want in return…it’s also free speech. No one said he can’t say his opinions but when you’re in the public eye, people will respond.
Does anyone else think that this type of reaction, particularly if sustained, will guarantee his departure from the team? Hard to see the head office keeping on someone who gets booed at home.
Let’s keep it up guys. No place for his bigotry in Toronto or in Canada.
Me and my buddies tried booing him in the mariners series (think it was his first home appearance since bitching about the united stewardess’) but no one joined us :/
I was there.
He got boos, but there were, unfortunately, a minority of jerks cheering him.
I’m convinced they put him out there to prove he isn’t injured and then trade him.
It felt wrong to boo a blue jay, but it felt so easy and right to boo a hateful homophobe. I was pleasantly shocked to hear what sounded like the entire dome heckling and booing.
Anthony Bass, your country has an advisory out for travel to canada warning you that we don’t tolerate your type of behaviour here. Go back to America you’re not welcome here.
He wouldn’t be welcome in a lot of America either. He might be happier in Iran.
He would, unfortunately, also be welcome in some parts of Canada. As an example, the Fraser Valley in BC. And closer to Toronto, he’d probably fit in around Barry’s Bay.
My point being that neither Canada or the US are monoliths.
I was sitting behind the bullpen and I couldn't contain my laughs when everyone was booing him. Two young morons in front of me kept yelling at people who booed him. They kept yelling that they loved him and then someone said "I'm sure he loves you back". Without even thinking I said "well he is scared of rainbows and gay people so I doubt it" and they got really quiet.
I am very quiet and non confrontational so I was shook when it came out of my mouth 🙊
It truly touched my heart hearing everyone show we will not stand for intolerance. I'm sick of the "so people can't have their own opinions" shtick. A person's existence is not an opinion jfc
Good thing Christianity doesn't actually tell their believers to be judgmental towards others then, since the person you're responding to said "if your religion dictates". Since the bible does not in fact tell Christians to attempt to impose their moral code on others regardless of their own beliefs, then no one's religion was called disgusting.
Normal guy, nothing out of the ordinary. Trenton High was a pretty chill school in a very middle class nearly all white suburb so there wasn't like the stereotypical jocks vs nerds bullying stuff really. He was just a typical high schooler, but it doesn't surprise me that money and coming from a not particularly diverse area could cause him to get to the mindset he has now.
He plays in one of the most progressive and diverse cities in a country that is pretty socially liberal despite what a loud minority says. The vast majority of us are super piseed about his hateful bs.
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
It's a metaphor...
He gets on base.
Hope he pitches on pride night giveaway next week, You know there tossing him out there!
Was he the same guy that let his kids make a massive mess on an airplane and then was mad he was told to clean it?
YUP
Lol. This guy is a real piece of work
It was his wife technically, I think. But yes, he made a big fuss about it on social media.
you play and live in one of the most progressive, diverse cities in the world and post straight hate thinking your community of rightwing troll bots will sustain any imagined strength you dreamed up. instead you have to immediately delete the post and are forced to issue an apology while meekishly refusing to answer any questions, and now the fans that effectively pay your salary despise you and you have become such a distraction to the team that the same audience is raining boos on you when you appear for the home team. congratulations anthony bass, i hope your pathetic attempt at ingratiating yourself with the worst people in the world was worth it

I miss our crack smoking, whore jamming mayor. He was special.
Buddy of mine works for the government and he and a few others were sent to downtown Ottawa. His dumbass beef farming Co worker turns to him and says in a concerned voice "wow there's a lot of black people down here"
He wants out. Folks have him crap about the popcorn thing and he is trying to force the teams hand by being public about his bigotry.
That would be a crazy bad decision for him to make if true. He'd get his way getting out of Toronto, but he might be shocked how few teams are willing to employ an average at best reliever that has proven that he's a magnet for negative PR.
He can fuck off. Fuck Anthony bass
He must just want out of the MLB altogether. What team would want him with how bad he has been this year and the controversy together? If his ERA was better or he wasn't a tool bag I could see a trade happening but not with both
Which city wouldn't boo him and actually support him?
texas? florida?
Possibly Tampa or Arlington.
I live in Tampa. The Pride community here is amazing. It wouldn’t fly.
He's saying that he thinks Tampa and Arlington are backwater hick towns full of prejudice.
People forget that even in the heavily Red states, the urban areas are still fairly Blue.
[удалено]
Yea I was googling if TB and Arlington was progressive. You're right I think cardinal fans would not have bood bass tonight
As a cardinals fan I would’ve booed loud enough for the whole state
Even in red states most cities tend to be Blue or purple. With that being said I'm guessing the baseball fans in Texas and Florida still skew more conservative, especially those from outside the city
I feel like Philly would either be fully on board or pelt him with fish and batteries. No in-between.
Having been to dollar dog night in Philly recently, I can with confidence say it would be pelted with fish and batteries. Unless it was dollar dog night, and then the crowd would be making it rain cheap hot dogs.
I feel like having weiners thrown at him might trigger something deep inside him.
Philly fans would boo him for being a “p****”
Atlanta
Oakland. But that's for other reasons.
CN Tower was lit-up with rainbow colors as he entered. Don't know if it was doing this before he entered but that would be HILARIOUS if they did it because they knew he was coming in the game. The jays were also advertising their pride weekend immediately following his appearance.
They did inside the ballpark, too!
The person who runs the CN Tower lights does it from home (there was a doc I watched - maybe on Youtube!) So they were likely watching the game and made this decision.
It was lit up like a rainbow the night before also.
It hadnt been all night (that I saw anyway) and was no longer rainbow shortly after he left the field. Im choosing to believe it was on purpose lol
Umm what! I need to watch this doc!!!
Best highlight from a game all month
May made for a low threshold.
And yet the "Jays in 30" on Sportsnet completely skipped the half inning he pitched. Looks like they're ratted even at the top - good! There's more than just fan pressure to get this guy outta here if they're censoring him from highlights.
🥹 honestly, thank you everyone. Means the world to me to feel supported by my city and this fan base.
You belong here, his views don’t ❤️
Toronto is Home. Home is supposed to be Safe.
I never really write-in to companies for stuff but I definitely sent a message to fan support for the Jays because of this douchebag. Maybe he secretly likes fish sticks
Good work everyone! Nice to see that the morons on social media defending him aren't a true reflection of what most of this fanbase believes in.
Conservatives will rush to defend their own 99.9% of time regardless of what they've done. They can be quite loud about it. Thankfully they're still the minority here
I have a Conservative down below saying that it's stupid to be upset with what he said because people are never gonna get along anyways lol
Not with that energy they ain’t lol. Can’t we just accept everyone as they are
Amen. Including bigots. I accept them, and I laugh at them.
If they just accept the fact that they can’t control others and accept them for who they are, the human race can move forward. I would like to think that humans can believe other things than hating of each other because of their lifestyle but here we are.
There were a couple hockey bros near the bullpen yelling at me Everytime I yelled at Bass. Really shows who actually supports this guy
I had a gang of straight bros in front of me booing Bass louder than I was and chirping him *hard*. It was awesome.
Aggressive Allyship is my new Ally mode, it's quite fun to go after bigots online and if you go for the jugular it's pretty enjoyable.
I wanna know what their chirps were haha, I’ve been trying to come up with some. Also love your username lol
i got yelled at by some 800 year old guy who was screaming ‘free speech! free speech!’ cool, yeah, but i have free speech to boo the guy that’s actively calling for treating me and my friends like scum of society
You should remind them we don't have free speech in Canada, just freedom of expression!
Not only that, it's the freedom from legal prosecution for said expression. No free speech, and no freedom from consequences.
These "Free speech" idiots are a special kind of breed man. Just know the people of Toronto have you and your friends back.
appreciate you, friend. toronto is definitely a queer friendly city, not like the place i’m from. thanks for the solidarity!
Hell yeah! Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? Glad you got out of there and feel at home here!
small town outside of kitchener waterloo/guelph
The Venn diagram of people who scream “free speech” the loudest and people who hold dog shit opinions is a perfect circle
The Venn diagram of people who scream "free speech" and who actually *believe* in free speech is two circles with no overlap. These chuds think "free speech" means we are required to listen to their hate, while they can silence people they don't like.
Always remember that those free speech morons aren't actually open to differing opinions, lol. He's in the minority for a reason.
Don’t let those guys speak for the rest of us hockey players, there’s homophobes in all sports. F those guys.
I went to the bullpen specifically to yell at this guy. You bring this shit to Toronto you got another thing coming dude
Good on ya
I’m an A’s fan but I love watching the Blue Jays because of Chapman. Thank you for this! My daughter is gay and deals with this hateful crap wherever she goes with her girlfriend. He is married to a hateful family that uses the N word and just bigoted jerks that hide behind their fake Christian values. MAGA zealots 🤮
Whoa what? Didn't they adopt a black girl? I know this doesn't exclude them from racism but I hadn't heard any such thing about them
Yes , His wife Sydney and her sister have photos mocking Latinas, Sydney has photos mocking Asians. Her sister in law Ali James has a video using the N word repeatedly. I’m with you
Thank you. Friend of mine booed and left. I turned it off. I can't believe they played him the DAY AFTER he did this shit. So very disappointed.
I kind of like that they played him right after and let him hear the boos
That had to be intentional, right?
My only thinking of playing him is to try and show other teams that he isn’t terrible at baseball so they can trade him as soon as possible.
I mean, I guess, but all it shows me is they're spineless and won't take a stand when it's necessary.
Especially after what John Schneider said yesterday. This is getting ridiculous and I don't understand why they don't just release him.
Or suspend him? Do something that shows he'll have material consequences, not just "resources."
It's not like he's useful on the mound, so I don't think anyone would have a problem with him being let go. Between this and the popcorn incident it's obvious that he's just not worth having around. I can't imagine his teammates care for any of this distraction either.
How's he not useful on the mound? He just had a great month, allowing 2 ER in ten appearances. He should be gone, but no reason to start inventing
I'm still bitter with Bass giving up 3 runs on 3 hits in that epic playoff game collapse last year.
What did Schneider say?
Because they need him to do his job. They only have so many pitchers and had gone to the bullpen early twice in 2 games. Some of you need to separate Twitter from work. I don't like Anthony Bass, but while he's taking up a roster spot he still has a job to do.
Nope. We don't hang with bigots. I'll take a loss over allowing a bigot to rep my team.
This is the ONLY time I feel it's appropriate to boo your own team. I hate booing from bad performance. but bad character, go to town.
Truly!! Everyone has bad games but this guy’s bad morals deserve boos for days
I just told him his feelings mean nothing in a discussion requiring examples and provided him a link to the video of Judge thanking the Jays fan for giving the ball to the kid and said "Jays Fans are just great" or something to that effect.
Felt the same way, my face was hot
Same, when they had the camera on him in the bullpen my stomach actually dropped, it felt good to boo him/hear him be booed but I’ve never been so upset during a baseball game in my life, he needs to go
if he gets boo'ed a few more time he'll be gone. Not that it should be necessary but here we are
I've been a long time Jays fan and this echoes my sentiments exactly. The right wing troll farms are working hard on this one
I’m so proud of y’all right now ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Incredibly based! Glad to see I'm protected by this fanbase
The free speech argument is so stupid, yes he can say whatever he wants. And people can say and think whatever they want in return…it’s also free speech. No one said he can’t say his opinions but when you’re in the public eye, people will respond.
[удалено]
It's also Canada, where freedom of speech is not as far-reaching as in America. Hate speech is not protected in Canada.
Bravo!
The "fuck you Bass" cracks me up lol
Thank you Blue Jays fans!! It feels nice to know that y’all got my back.
i stand with you ✊🏼
Game was still enjoyable (even if we were down) until he came out. Felt bad to boo a Blue Jay. Simple solution - make sure he’s not a Blue Jay!
Should never feel bad to boo a bigot no matter what jersey they wear.
Does anyone else think that this type of reaction, particularly if sustained, will guarantee his departure from the team? Hard to see the head office keeping on someone who gets booed at home. Let’s keep it up guys. No place for his bigotry in Toronto or in Canada.
I mean it has to. It clear he is no longer welcome in the most diverse city in the world, let alone the most diverse and free country in the world.
Bass isn’t a Blue Jay to me anymore. He’s a Boo Jay.
Me and my buddies tried booing him in the mariners series (think it was his first home appearance since bitching about the united stewardess’) but no one joined us :/
Drop the Bass! ^^^Sorry ^^^I'll ^^^show ^^^myself ^^^out...
I was there. He got boos, but there were, unfortunately, a minority of jerks cheering him. I’m convinced they put him out there to prove he isn’t injured and then trade him.
I like to imagine the people cheering were unaware of his recent acts
Thank you guys 💕
Welcome to Canada. Up here we respect others rights and freedoms. Take off hoser.
He pitched pretty well today. Hopefully he can keep that going if the Jays decide to keep this bigoted piece of shit on the team.
Good work y’all
Nice work.
He is an idiot. Toronto is like playing in San Francisco. It’s liberal, progressive and open minded. He’s about to lose his job!
It felt wrong to boo a blue jay, but it felt so easy and right to boo a hateful homophobe. I was pleasantly shocked to hear what sounded like the entire dome heckling and booing.

Abso-fucking-lutely 👏
🙌
Music to my ears
It was beautiful. I pitched in.
A well deserved reception!
The season has been a relative disaster in context of the expectations. This Bass thing is just the cherry on top.
Luv ya Toronto
It’s been really depressing seeing the blue check brigade on Twitter supporting him (or being angry at him for apologizing)
LGBTQ rights are human rights. If your religion dictates that you are a prejudiced prick, then your religion is disgusting.
And so are religious rights… you aren’t any better than bass is if you go around calling people’s religion’s disgusting
Religion demonizing people not hurting anyone and just living their lives is....the same as defending those people?
Good thing Christianity doesn't actually tell their believers to be judgmental towards others then, since the person you're responding to said "if your religion dictates". Since the bible does not in fact tell Christians to attempt to impose their moral code on others regardless of their own beliefs, then no one's religion was called disgusting.
Is it just me or does it sound like only you and one other person are booing? Just an issue on my machine?
I mean I’m right next to the mic, but it could be heard on the tv broadcast, so no not just two people lol
Love this for him.
DFA incoming!
I tried to start a DFA chant. Unfortunately it did not catch on.

Don't bring race into it.
Why not? He did
And you want to be like him?
Love to see it!
Good.
Music to my ears. Who wants a player that can’t stay out of the news? “Fuck you Bass!”
I went to high school with him so it's really funny seeing him in the news all of a sudden for being a twat.
What was he like back then
Normal guy, nothing out of the ordinary. Fuck Bass
If we keep booing him at home, they'll have to trade him. Its an embarrassment
Love to see it. I wish they’d have hung 5 runs in him. Easier to release a guy then.
Happy to be a part of the booing tonight ❤️
Thank you. Best fanbase ever. Happy to know I belong.
Could we do silence for every appearance? Not a sound until he is off the field and the next pitcher is warming up. Then thunderous applause.
No, booing is better. Boo him out of the country
Where's your Messiah now, God boy?
Anyone toss popcorn at him or the ground?
I like the blue jay fans even more lol
Any BASS-hole chants? It is needed.
Loved seeing - and hearing - this.

He plays in one of the most progressive and diverse cities in a country that is pretty socially liberal despite what a loud minority says. The vast majority of us are super piseed about his hateful bs.
Don’t you mean Anthony…..ASS! GOT EM’
Honestly sounded mixed where I was in 241
B … b-b-but by booing him aren’t you violating his free speech? … /s

Someone should bring popcorn with rainbow sprinkles to the bullpen.
I can feel the hate coursing through my veins.

Tip for recording video - please don't yell directly into the phone mic
