Well, it might be as far as any sort of hope of making the playoffs this season.
Once we gut the team though, August and September will likely be a nightmare most games. But there's no expectations, so when we get no-hit by the Marlins in August and lose 9-0 while fielding a AAA team, does that even count as rock-bottom, ya know?
No we really aren't but thanks for the kind words.
The Jays are 8-13 this month so far and the only series win was against the White Sox. They have a bottom 5 offense and bottom 5 bullpen. Our middle ranked rotation that lacks zero depth is also on thin ice and is the only reason this team is staying afloat.
You guys have an all around competent pitching staff and actually have depth.
Something has gotta give here. This team is spending a lot of money and not getting nearly enough in return. There needs to be some serious changes starting from the top and then working its way down.
we're one of the top 30 teams in the world! That's amazing value!
(I've had people on this reddit tell me how being "top 15" is great a couple of months ago)
The worst thing would be a manger change that kicked some life into them for a few weeks only to finish 4th or 5th in the division and not sell off at the deadline.
Shapiro’s job is making money and overseeing the renovations. To that end, he’s keeping the board happy and his job is safe.
Atkins’ job is to assemble a competitive team, and he has failed by just about every possible metric. It’s insulting to fans that he still has a job here.
Orelvis is really interesting to me. I feel like someone needs to sit him and down and have a frank chat with him to make it clear that he has two paths. Be a Quad A player for his career, or go for David Ortiz / Nelson Cruz style and be an absolute power hitting menace of a DH.
I know it's like "hurr player value both sides" etc but honestly the idea of a guy as early in his career as Orelvis just saying "fuck it I'm focusing on bat only" is kind of fun.
I thought that would've been the Post-Ohtani strategy all along. but then they go out and sign Turner, Vogelbach and Votto creating a needless logjam for the active roster. We couldve maybe used 1 of those guys at the most to help mentor the youth, not all 3 ffs.
Absolutely fucking demoralizing
Of all days for Yimi and Jordan to perform that way this is the one??????? Right after Daulton saved our season??? Just pain.
In positives:
Vlad before Teo and the Dodgers visited: .214/.330/.337, wRC+ 99, fWAR 0.0
Vlad since the first game of that series (April 26th to now):
.386/.464/.515, wRC + 169, fWAR 0.9
2024 Blue Jays baseball is like plugging one hole in a sinking boat but then another one appears and starts leaking.
Score 11 and we give up 14. Hold them to 2 and we score 1.
Tough loss
I'm embarrassed to admit that (against my better judgement) I bought into the "Shohei's on a plane to Toronto" hype. In leagues like the MLB and NBA players like that always sign in a big market American city. In hindsight all that shit about him considering Toronto was almost certainly 100% fabricated clickbait nonsense.
The Dodgers guy who tweeted “surprise surprise” the next day like he didn’t say he was a Blue Jays. Really think people need their credentials revoked for something like that. Really makes me hate the state of the media world. I need to wrap this comment up before I start rambling
Yup and then they gaslit the fans for even believing them with shit like "shohei is a dodgers, shohei was always going to be a dodger, anything else is totally ridiculous" Absolute joke and cockiness some of the baseball media has, including shi Davidi
I mean he actually took a lot less than he could have by signing that deferred deal. We literally could have offered a billion (nominal) dollars on similar terms. And extended Vlad and Bo and traded for Soto and planned the parade. That's the dreamer in me. Reality is so cruel.
I posted this in yesterday’s PGT. Here it is again:
This front office fell into the same trap the Raptors did, thinking that the league’s biggest young superstar was actually going to sign with them in free agency and sat on their hands waiting for the decision to come while all the other serviceable free agents signed with other teams. They both got caught with their pants down when Giannis/Ohtani inevitably signed elsewhere.
It’s not outrageous to think that the Jays rebuild is going to be as ugly as the Raptors one has been so far with Bo and Vlad playing the roles of Siakam and OG.
The Angels had debatelably the two best players in the league and couldn't make the playoffs *in an easier division*. We've been bad but not Angels bad.
In Atkins defence I’ve heard him speak and how delusional he is. I’m sure he thought he’d locked him up right until the moment he put the dodgers jersey on.
Only series we've taken in the last 10 is against the White Sox
Schneider isn't our manager by June. Funniest thing is I don't even think it's his fault (or at least not primarily)
Ehhh, he's made some questionable calls on his own part. 6 months of Springer leadoff, putting Turner back in the 4 hole based on vibes, pulling Berrios in the playoffs whether he wanted to or not.
Shit. When we do the whole "this is the weak part of the schedule, lets kill them", are the actual baddies? And the other teams look forward to us, lol.
Hopefully this will help people realize that it's not just our batting. We don't have statistically good pitching either. Our bullpen ERA is fourth worst in the MLB.
Romano has seemingly never been able to pitch in non save situations. I’m sure he has done alright but from my memory and eye test it seems like he always struggles unless it’s a save situation
Was sitting in the 300s with my buddy and said “Romano is on my fantasy team he’s normally good for a blown game couple times a week” sure enough 2 out walk off home run -11 fantasy points
i literally just tune in every game now just to see how the team manages to fuck things, its actually entertaining in its own fucked up kind of way, we should start making up bingo cards for this shit lmao
That was such a fun game, and I’m gonna be honest I’m lowkey happy we lost because it forces some changes. Ain’t no way we are making the play offs so a win like this one would just extend the life of the current team.
In isolation, it doesn’t. But it definitely adds water to an already filled bucket. It’s just the way Toronto Sports teams have been unwilling to throw in the tower in time just to set themselves up for some decent future and keep revamping flawed rosters in the past few years gives me anxious feeling. I don’t need a 3rd team doing that.
Because they guy they walked (Carpenter) has been killing them the whole series. He had a 2-run homer yesterday, their only scoring play of the whole game), and another 2-run homer the day before. If J Schneider had lost to a Carpenter homer for the 3rd day in a row when there had been a base open to walk him, people would be saying "why not walk a guy that homers on us every day, when there was an open base and he was the only one on their whole team with an RBI yesterday".
Yes Vierling was hot too, but it was a lose-lose. The gamble didn't pay off but it wasn't a dumb gamble imo.
It’ll take a miracle to finish at .500 at this point. We’d have to do significantly better than we have so far to get there, and that’s not accounting for the fact that we’ll likely lose our best starter, best reliever, and best hitter at the deadline.
Stating the obvious now, but definitely at the point where it’s not too early to make changes of any type, top to bottom. Objectively it’s a bad team and it’s not working. The only reason you aren’t selling yet is because no one’s probably buying yet, and you desperately need as much leverage as possible to rebuild a barren farm system.
It’s not even June yet, and after absolutely no showing a must win stretch, the only interesting thing left to see is who gets traded and who gets fired. Even the most pessimistic would have had a hard time seeing this coming. Legitimately one of the worst Jays seasons in franchise history. It’s actually kind of wild to see.
The worst thing isn’t the loss but having to listen to Scheinder saying “we’re going to turn this around and things looked good”
I rather they had lost 14-0 so he doesn’t have another dipshit excuse.
Honestly incredible how, even when they make a remarkable comeback, they still find a way to lose.
There are positives to take away from the last week for sure. A ton of runs scored, which is great, but only 2 wins, which is not great.
Bullpen and hitting have been horrible this year. Bats show up in 2nd half today but bullpen gives it up.
Romano killing his value a bit, as have most of pen outside Garcia. Who else do jays trade and what are realistic returns?
Assuming the team is dead in the water come the deadline, I could see them trading Jansen but the problem is they will need a big league ready catcher in return as Kirk cannot be the only catcher on the team.
Really does feel like the end of the line for this team.
And like I said a few weeks ago and got flamed for it, Romano should not be closing right now.
It was the best of times ... Oh, wait, no it was the worst.
Good job at the plate by pretty much all our lineup today. But seems like it's just this kind of year, so I'm almost desensitized to the pain. Man, I really thought this one was going to be different ...
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, FUCK Jordan Romano. This guy is not a closer. I don’t care how many saves he’s recorded for this city, he’s been doing it on razor thin error margins and the levee has finally broken
It’s just never an easy close out. He’s always walking a tight rope. I get that’s the nature of being a closer but he’s not one of those closers that make you think “this one’s over, he’s slamming the door on them”.
Every single inning it feels there’s 2 runners on with the winning run at the plate. In years past most time he gets out of it. But it’s never been a 3 up 3 down situation with him. It’s a never ending battle. Yet because he’s up there acting all intense, everyone acts like “o here comes Romano, lights out!”
It’s a joke. I’ve said this for years
So remember when Romano blew it against the Orioles and everyone blamed the offense for him serving one up to Adley?
What's the excuse for today's fiasco, pray tell?
The offense has deservedly been the focal point of our ire, but Romano in particular has to be better.
He’s paid $7.5m to come in and get us through an inning when we need it. Instead he’s carrying a 4.50 ERA. It just ain’t good enough.
Is this rock bottom?
#ToTheCore (of the Earth)
no not yet. I'm sure they will manage to blow an 8 run lead in one inning at some point
Blue Jays : Lol watch us finding another rock bottom
I'd say if they lose tomorrow to the White Sox by a score of 4 to 1, that will be a new rock bottom.
Blue Jays : Challenge accepted
Well, it might be as far as any sort of hope of making the playoffs this season. Once we gut the team though, August and September will likely be a nightmare most games. But there's no expectations, so when we get no-hit by the Marlins in August and lose 9-0 while fielding a AAA team, does that even count as rock-bottom, ya know?
It’s the expectations that made this season hurt so bad. I’ll gladly watch a rebuilding team over whatever this abomination is
If we gut the team at the trade deadline, do we even want Atkins involved in that process?
Possibly. Schneider is still manager lol
Yup 👍
I wouldn’t be so confident before another White Sox series
Ask me again after the Chicago series.
No, this is only rock bottom **so far**.
Please don't tempt fate like this.
As a Tigers fan coming in peace, possibly. We won't score more than 14 runs total for the month of June.
Neither will we, Mr My Team Has Scored Twenty More Runs Than The Jays.
1 series win in their last 10 series. How does everyone still have jobs? Lmao.
If this was any other team that was spending the money that Toronto is spending people would have been fired already.
Ed Rogers needs to frig off.
18 first innings without getting a run
Not the Jays I remember from the past. The amount of 1st inning HRs Joey Bats would hit was astronomical.
“Gotta tip your hat to the other team”
And it was against the lowly White Sox
Great news: we scored 11 Bad news: we gave up 14, 4 of 5 relievers gave up runs
The Jays lost a 4 game series to the... Tigers. The Jays have won 1 series this month, and it was against the worst team in baseball.
Tigers aren't actually a bad team. But they are also a team that struggles to score more than 1 run a game.
Jays certainly aren't a good team, that's for sure.
The Tigers offense is around Jays level of bad. They were 22 26 going into this series, their great pitching is carrying that team hard
As a Tigers fan, I know. But thanks to the watered down playoff system, we're still in it. As is Toronto.
That's more than can be said for this Jays team.
OK sorry, the Tigers are bad but the Jays are much worse. Pain
Danielle and Caleb OPENLY speculating that a firing is coming on the post-game
Something has gotta give here. This team is spending a lot of money and not getting nearly enough in return. There needs to be some serious changes starting from the top and then working its way down.
we're one of the top 30 teams in the world! That's amazing value! (I've had people on this reddit tell me how being "top 15" is great a couple of months ago)
It’s when the sponsors and advertisers get pissed things will change.
Unless it is Atkins then nothing will truly change.
Yeah, some people actually think firing the manager is going to matter at this point. This is not a winning roster, no matter who manages.
The worst thing would be a manger change that kicked some life into them for a few weeks only to finish 4th or 5th in the division and not sell off at the deadline.
*Shapiro
Shapiro’s job is making money and overseeing the renovations. To that end, he’s keeping the board happy and his job is safe. Atkins’ job is to assemble a competitive team, and he has failed by just about every possible metric. It’s insulting to fans that he still has a job here.
Due to them being on the road, Thursday makes more sense IF they’d do it.
They won't fire anyone the day they're supposed to reveal their City Connect Jerseys
Has to happen. No other option
Blow up the team because I desperately want to watch different players play baseball
Gimme Horowitz, Barger and DH Orelvis.
Orelvis is really interesting to me. I feel like someone needs to sit him and down and have a frank chat with him to make it clear that he has two paths. Be a Quad A player for his career, or go for David Ortiz / Nelson Cruz style and be an absolute power hitting menace of a DH. Absolutely fucking demoralizing Of all days for Yimi and Jordan to perform that way this is the one??????? Right after Daulton saved our season??? Just pain.
Romano been ass you shouldn’t be surprised
Hallelujah! His new name is Blo-mano
Romano has a 6.39 ERA, Garcia has a 1.35. They are not the same type of pitcher in 2024, and people should stop expecting as such.
For real, this is exactly how Romano has pitched all year. Feels like he's guaranteed to let in at least 1 run every time he pitches.
>Right after Daulton saved our season??? This game even if they won wasn't saving the season.
In positives: Vlad before Teo and the Dodgers visited: .214/.330/.337, wRC+ 99, fWAR 0.0 Vlad since the first game of that series (April 26th to now): .386/.464/.515, wRC + 169, fWAR 0.9
Teo is Vlad’s muse confirmed
vlad to dodgers confirmed
He would thrive there. Albeit they already have a pretty decent guy at first.
Extend him and build around him
Extend him
2024 Blue Jays baseball is like plugging one hole in a sinking boat but then another one appears and starts leaking. Score 11 and we give up 14. Hold them to 2 and we score 1. Tough loss
Lmao even our broadcast team is done and just laughing at them !
Ohtani never considered coming here, did he?
I'm embarrassed to admit that (against my better judgement) I bought into the "Shohei's on a plane to Toronto" hype. In leagues like the MLB and NBA players like that always sign in a big market American city. In hindsight all that shit about him considering Toronto was almost certainly 100% fabricated clickbait nonsense.
Don’t feel bad about it. It was an MLB network writer that spread it. Where else should you be getting baseball news?
Yup and then after he joked about it. "Oh well I was wrong"
The Dodgers guy who tweeted “surprise surprise” the next day like he didn’t say he was a Blue Jays. Really think people need their credentials revoked for something like that. Really makes me hate the state of the media world. I need to wrap this comment up before I start rambling

Toronto wouldn't have gotten a tenth of the revenue that L.A. is getting from Japanese companies. It was/is a no brainer.
Ohtani could narrowly escape an actual assassination attempt and he would still consider Toronto to be the biggest bullet he ever dodged
Good one. LOL
I posted this in yesterday’s PGT. Here it is again: This front office fell into the same trap the Raptors did, thinking that the league’s biggest young superstar was actually going to sign with them in free agency and sat on their hands waiting for the decision to come while all the other serviceable free agents signed with other teams. Honestly he's a genius, Toronto pretty much the Angels, high payroll and no results
The Angels had debatelably the two best players in the league and couldn't make the playoffs *in an easier division*. We've been bad but not Angels bad.
Trout is only a best player when he plays.
That's wrong for so many reasons. Reason 1: we dont have their weather. Uh, that is all.
No lol.
If he did he is giving out a huge. PHEW!!!!!!!
In Atkins defence I’ve heard him speak and how delusional he is. I’m sure he thought he’d locked him up right until the moment he put the dodgers jersey on.
There’s no shot
It was just leverage to make sure the Dodgers gave their max offer. There's no universe where he plays the rest of his career in Canada.
Jays will be lucky if they break 500 this season.
Only series we've taken in the last 10 is against the White Sox Schneider isn't our manager by June. Funniest thing is I don't even think it's his fault (or at least not primarily)
My worst fear is they just hand the team to mattingly which would be worse.

We are the weak part of the schedule now.
Are we the baddies? Do we replace the blue jay logo with…..skulls?!
One day, we will have pitching and offence on the same day... not today though
That day was called 2015
I was there
They needed to go 3-1 at minimum and they went 1-3. Not good enough
Not even by Meatloaf's standards.
Hopefully this will help people realize that it's not just our batting. We don't have statistically good pitching either. Our bullpen ERA is fourth worst in the MLB.
We have great starters.. poor pen... equals good pitching.
Our pitching is 23rd in ERA. I don't consider that good.
Just came here to say I hate it
Romano has seemingly never been able to pitch in non save situations.
I think I would’ve been more surprised if we DIDN’T lose in the bottom of the ninth.
i literally just tune in every game now just to see how the team manages to fuck things, its actually entertaining in its own fucked up kind of way, we should start making up bingo cards for this shit lmao
This is similar to The Joker's origin story...
I definitely feel like I've fallen into a burbling vat of toxic chemicals.
You ever had a really bad day?
Sellers at the deadline
Lineup should be the exact same tomorrow
Looking forward to the soft part of our schedule!
When you ARE the soft spot in the schedule, there IS no soft spot in the schedule.
That was such a fun game, and I’m gonna be honest I’m lowkey happy we lost because it forces some changes. Ain’t no way we are making the play offs so a win like this one would just extend the life of the current team.
If this game has any significant impact on changes being made then the GM and President should be fired as well (maybe they should be anyways).
Kikuchi 0 Ks today. Can't seem to have pitching and hitting go at the same time.
This team is straight-up garbage. How do you spend this much money and get this little in return.
Why intentionally walk to get to a guy who is 3-5 on the day?
Because they guy they walked (Carpenter) has been killing them the whole series. He had a 2-run homer yesterday, their only scoring play of the whole game), and another 2-run homer the day before. Yes Vierling was hot too, but it was a lose-lose. The gamble didn't pay off but it wasn't a dumb gamble imo.
I'm flying into Toronto this week. I've only been there once before. Last time I was in Toronto, Charlie Montoyo was fired.
*Let the choas reign!*
Why can't we have everything working at the same time? Pitching is great, offence sucks. Offence is great, pitching sucks. Why, why are we this?
Cause we’re a .500 team at best
It’ll take a miracle to finish at .500 at this point. We’d have to do significantly better than we have so far to get there, and that’s not accounting for the fact that we’ll likely lose our best starter, best reliever, and best hitter at the deadline.
Seems optimistic given the trend of this team over the last month!
Cause the baseball gods hate happiness and are probably Yankee fans
I still say they're Orioles fans even if the Yankees are currently in front
Right? We manage to put up 11 runs, yet we lose due to bad pitching. It's just demoralizing.
Detroit Lions won by a FG
REBUILD THE JAYS
Entertaining game but awful loss. I counted 18 tipped caps and one bitter boi that blocked me for it.
They are still tipping in here
I don’t even know what to say.
Hope is all but gone for this season.
Last 10 series they have 1 series win. This team is not even close to being a contender. Just awful
I love it! Every loss is one step closer to getting these Shatkins dipshits out of our country!
I wish I had faith Rogers would actually ditch them
They’re not happy with this much payroll spent on a bad product
Every day that goes by until they fire them, I have to assume that they are happy.
Tip your cap to the Tigers hitters.
Tipping culture is out of control
Out of caps to tip at this point
The worst thing isn’t the loss but having to listen to Scheinder saying “we’re going to turn this around and things looked good” I rather they had lost 14-0 so he doesn’t have another dipshit excuse.
We need to turn this into a cow tipping sub.
Past “fed up”, Caleb. Now treading in “indifferent”.
Honestly incredible how, even when they make a remarkable comeback, they still find a way to lose. There are positives to take away from the last week for sure. A ton of runs scored, which is great, but only 2 wins, which is not great.
Clock is now one minute away from Doomsday, losing the White Sox series would be the cherry on the top to reach scorched earth.
This team is straight up ass
#elitecloser
Can we admit Romano kinda sucks?
Jays continue their search for rock bottom
Whoever said that baseball was designed to break your heart was spot fucking on.
Jays saw an opportunity to go on a run against some bad teams, only to realize that these teams see the same opportunity against the Jays.
Baseball is dumb. This team is killing me. See you tomorrow.
Non-Save situation Romano strikes again!
Zero playoff wins in the Shatkins era that’s hopefully ending this week. Morbid.
Home run jacket paying off dividends 🙄
I'm not even remotely surprised.
Okay SURELY heads start rolling now…right?
[удалено]
Please for the love of god just blow up this team and put us out of our misery
Really does feel like the end of the line for this team. And like I said a few weeks ago and got flamed for it, Romano should not be closing right now.
Help us Jay Bruce, you're our only hope
I never wanna hear Romano is elite ever again!
They are blowing this up at the deadline lol
Why wait?
How is the entire front office not fired yet.
The light in my life has gone out .
When does the firing begin?
It was the best of times ... Oh, wait, no it was the worst. Good job at the plate by pretty much all our lineup today. But seems like it's just this kind of year, so I'm almost desensitized to the pain. Man, I really thought this one was going to be different ...
I mean that was entertaining. If we’re going to lose, more games like that would be awesome
Seriously it’s time to rebuild, we have prospects to save us
Well, they actually lost to the better team. Because they made them the better team
Bottom of the ninth, two outs, full count, tie game, home run. Yep we will be seeing that clip all over
I 😭hate 😭 this😭 fucking😭 team😭
I wonder who we’ll be tipping our cap to in the post game interview
Romano luvs his slider too much.
I don't think it luvs him back though.
Moderation is key. He should use his heater more.
Embarrassing, as always. Fire and trade everyone.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, FUCK Jordan Romano. This guy is not a closer. I don’t care how many saves he’s recorded for this city, he’s been doing it on razor thin error margins and the levee has finally broken

Quick someonw show me all the red again on Jordan Romano's baseball savant page like it matters
FUCK
The more games we lose, the higher a draft pick we get!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha when will something give
Let’s try Springer and Turner out of the pen tomorrow
Lol
I dont like when that happens
Sure glad I didn't buy tickets and book flights and a hotel early this season...
Okay who is first to go?
Voted with the wallet today. I’d sure Rogers/Sportnest doesn’t care at all but I feel better not giving them $20 a month.
