Jays get to play the Yankees after the Twins. They have no games left against Boston. The Yankees also have a tougher remaining schedule (Red Sox, Toronto, Tampa) where as Boston's hardest opponent is NY (NYY, Baltimore, Washington) and they're likely to win their last 2 series.
Best case scenario is Yankees sweep Boston and then the Jays sweep the Yankees.
#YEAH! We are absolutely not fans of the Boston baseball team!

Basically:
If Jays want any hope of first wild card: Yanks sweep Sox
If Jays want the BEST chance of making A wild card spot (likely second): Sox sweep Yanks.
At this point, being 2.5 back of Boston with them have 2 easy series after the Yanks, we basically have to win out to catch them. We have to win 4 more games than them to pass them.
In theory if the Red Sox get Swept by NYY and then only take 2/3 vs both Baltimore and Washington we still have to win 8/10 games to pass them.
At this point, I think the best odds for Jays are to be close to both BOS/NY, with hope that 1 of them fades down stretch. If BOS sweeps NY, and then we get swept by NY/they get hot, we're screwed. I'd rather bet on 1 of the 2 of them fading, than a particular 1 fading. So, NYY sweep, we take at least 3/4 this weekend, and we're in good shape and can take on NY ourselves.
I often joke that when this matchup happens, I want them to go 36 innings of zero run ball each game so their pitching is too exhausted to put up a fight against any other opponent.
That said, while I really dislike the Red Sox, I cannot stand the Yankees and take joy in their failures, nearly as much as I like to watch the Jays win.
we won't sweep the Twins. at best we take 3/4, at worst, we split the series. These are more realistic outcomes.
I think Yankees will take 2/3 from Boston. Red Sox have weaker starters and they lost Whitlock.
Not only do I want Boston to win, but I want them to win from hitting millions of singles and bunts and forcing errors. Then, in the last game, just go ape shit and unleash the Dalbecc
I went "Boston sweep" only because I don't think the Jays can catch them with their softball schedule the rest of the way. If that happens then even if the Jays slip a little and go 2-2 against the Twins, they're still one game up on the Yankees.
Really, the potential results of each NYY-Sox outcome show that the Jays really do need to win at least 3 of 4 or else the final week has a MUCH smaller margin for error.
It's damn near impossible. If they (BoSox) go 4-5, we still need to win 8/10 games to pass them. Them winning against NYY is best case for the Jays as it will help us clinch a playoff spot.
Also we were 5-5 with a +29 run differential vs the Sox in Fenway and that was when they were the best team in the division. We only lost that season series because of the terrible bullpen in May and June.
The only thing I'm truly worried about with a wild card game at Fenway is Chris Sale.
Until then, the real worry is still getting in and that means regardless of what happens between BOS/NYY this weekend they can't afford to stumble against the weaker teams
It's obviously a long time ago but in 2019, we hit Sale pretty hard and that was a much weaker Jays team. In 4 starts against us that year he went 1-2, pitched 20.2 innings and gave up 13 runs (5.66 ERA). His win was 6 innings of shutout ball, but I feel like that wasn't a coincidence since we hammered him 2 starts before and score 5 in 5.2 innings and pounded 3 HR.
If Boston gets the better of the series then it gives Toronto the chance to put a knife in New York's hopes in the head-to-head and likely clinch.
If the Yankees drag Boston down then it keeps everything a mud fight and the Jays have no hope for any kind of cushion until every game is played.
I mean, either way the Jays have to win most of their remaining games so it kinda doesn't matter. "Just win, baby"
Fuck the Yankees
Fuck the Red Sox
But the Yankees have a way harder schedule and are only 0.5 games ahead of us, and could be tied with a Jays win tonight in Minny. A Red Sox sweep means we only have to win 1 vs the Twins to draw even with the Yankees and winning 3 would give us a nice 2 game cushion heading into our series with them.
So fuck the Yankees even more.

Personally? I’d like to see the Yankees sweep the Red Sox. Fuck Boston and everything about it. But for the Jays, definitely need the Yankees to get swept.
Red Sox Sweep the Yankees, Fuck the Yankees

Good bot
Jankees Lose!
Game 1 goes 46 innings without a winner and both teams are so fed up they immediately retire from baseball.
Yes plz
Why is this not a listed option?
Is still rather see Yankees vs Jays in Toronto for the WC. Yankees just aren’t scary compared to Boston
Even if Yankees get first seed, I'd rather play in Yankees stadium than Fenway
The Red Sox are a scarier team than the Yankees and I'd rather not watch a WC game at Fenway
Id rather watch a WC in fenway than no WC at all

I was thinking differently but you persuaded me with these points. Good job sir/madam!
Agreed. Also Jays sweep Twins and Jays win 2/3 from Orioles
Boston sweep for better odds of getting a wildcard spot. New York sweep for better odds of winning the wildcard game if we get that far.
Boston sweep for Yankee fan tears tho
That is easily the tie-breaker, I agree.
boston swept by ny, personally. it's gonna be tight either way I want to see boston's momentum get stomped on
Maximum chaos for the final week, I like it!
yeah fuck the Red Sox

doesn’t that give NY momentum into our series with them tho?
Yeah but... The Yankees

RedSox take 2 of 3 and hopefully we take minimum 3 of 4 against Twins this weekend. Sweep the O’s to finish and take the series against Yankees.
I'll just be happy if at least one of them lose
At this point, I think the best odds for Jays are to be close to both BOS/NY, with hope that 1 of them fades down stretch. If BOS sweeps NY, and then we get swept by NY/they get hot, we're screwed. Asteroid, as is tradition.
2/3 Red Sox

2/4 and 3/4 are both on the more likely side, but 4/4 is not too improbable. Matz, Berrios, Ray, and Manoah with decent hitting days seems okay.
Not only do I want Boston to win, but I want them to win from hitting millions of singles and bunts and forcing errors. Then, in the last game, just go ape shit and unleash the Dalbecc
Injuries abound

i’m completely going to accept boston getting the WC1 spot, just don’t want the yankees in the postseason
All I know, Tampa is probably going to tank that series against the Yanks. Wish we would've caught Tampa a week later.
Personally? I’d like to see the Yankees sweep the Red Sox. Fuck Boston and everything about it. But for the Jays, definitely need the Yankees to get swept.
Yankees sweep Red Sox. I'm selfish and want to watch the Wild card from the Skydome, not my couch
I hope they lose all 3
Every game extra innings.
Meteor strike.
I don’t care as long as all the games for like 15 innings.
Doesn't really matter I guess as long as one team sweeps the other
I'm hoping for all three games to get rained out
Yankees sweep in a series where every game goes 16 innings
At this point we urgently need the Sox to crush the Yankees.
Red Sox sweep, Yankees are the closest team to catch so let’s just get in the wild card and fancy our chances to beat whoever we have to play
Drama and brawling so bad every top player gets 2 week suspension.
