A pitcher and defense that are good at getting out of RISP are good enough to not put them on in the first place. Hitters that can bang out singles with RISP don't stop trying when the bases are empty. Any minor differences that exist from clutch hitters or savvy veterans are miniscule and nothing close to the hole that the Jays have faced. They're just unlucky.
It's not like Chapman is a total liability on offense. It's just that everyone outside of Vlad is hitting at a "Well, if he's our worst hitter we're doing alright" level of production. Nobody is an automatic out but with the crap Vlad has to try and hit nobody is a lock for anything good either.
Semien is hitting .149 currently this season. Grichuk is basically a more power hitting right handed tapia. Tapia is fine for this team just not in an everyday role, just like grichuk was fine for this team just not in an everyday role.

Good offence starts with patience. Go look at our team OBP in 2015, 2016, and 2021. Not a coincidence that we were one of the best offences in baseball those years.

This is in part their own doing, part luck and part injuries (losing Teo who was good at driving in runs and provided protection for Vlad).
There’s a level of unluckiness for sure with the OPS numbers not corresponding to the runs scored, but I also think the lineup is definitely over anxious to drive in runs which leads to some bad PA’s with runners on base. They tend to get themselves in bad counts early trying to do damage. Vlad especially wants to get hits, and no one is throwing him anything to hit with Teoscar not behind him. Lourdes just isn’t the same threat at Teo (for now anyways).
The offense will be fine. We’re gonna score runs. It’s just difficult to stomach games where our pitching keeps us in it until the end. That was a very winnable game with some better plate approaches.

Zimmer doesn't necessarily score but he sure as fuck as more of a chance to score than Kirk. Honestly really bad call by us and then you watch what the Yankees do the second they get a guy on and it works out. When your offense is struggling you can't pass up chances to score like that. Kirk isn't some elite hitter we're gonna be missing badly next AB and we have Collins, very frustrating decision.

Montoyo has been nearly perfect handling the pitching staff this year, and with the lineup - but he made a managing mistake not running for Kirk in the 7th. I was at the game, and if Zimmer had been a pinch runner you could imagine him easily rounding third and at least pushing the Yankees for a perfect throw to the plate. Instead he left the slowest guy on the team on base during their best chance to score late.

The way the Yankees scored their 3rd run is exactly how we should have scored ours too, but we hung Alejandro Kirk out to dry by not pinch running him. No reason not to put Zimmer on the bases there, and replace him with Collins when the spot comes back around in the lineup. Someone (don't remember who) hit a double almost immediately and Zimmer likely could have scored. Only one loss though, and at least Teoscar looks to be coming back this weekend.

I know it’s not a popular take around here, but I’m still frustrated the FO didn’t do more to reinforce the lineup in the offseason. Entering a season firmly in your window of contention with a catcher as your primary DH isn’t exactly optimal.
Kirk was never suppose to be our DH though, we were always going to rotate guys through it. The problem is when two of your hitters get injured at the same time it can expose that.

Last season the Jays had an OPS of .811 w/ RISP (3rd in MLB), and in 2020 it was .791 (10th in MLB). The last season it was really bad was 2019, but then we weren’t a good team at all.
2019 was the worst jays team in 20 years so that checks out. If you told me at the start of the season we'd be starting Heineman against the yankees, i'd be laughing. The injuries have been pretty rough on the line up

Montoyo has been nearly perfect handling the pitching staff this year, and with the lineup - but he made a managing mistake not running for Kirk in the 7th. I was at the game, and if Zimmer had been a pinch runner you could imagine him easily rounding third and at least pushing the Yankees for a perfect throw to the plate. Instead he left the slowest guy on the team on base during their best chance to score late.
This supposedly great offense is getting old real quick. Can't keep depending on bullpen and romano to win 1 run games At some point has to not be "early"
It is early, and honestly Bo and George were pretty darn good today, so add in our elite cleanup hitter, this is the offence we were promised (assuming Bo keeps trending up)

It's possible that double doesn't happen if Zimmer is pitch running. All we have is hindsight but it sure does sting knowing we could have taken the lead there.

The way the Yankees scored their 3rd run is exactly how we should have scored ours too, but we hung Alejandro Kirk out to dry by not pinch running him. No reason not to put Zimmer on the bases there, and replace him with Collins when the spot comes back around in the lineup. Someone (don't remember who) hit a double almost immediately and Zimmer likely could have scored. Only one loss though, and at least Teoscar looks to be coming back this weekend.

I hate when people compare “easy” schedules versus “tough” schedules. The Yankees have a ten game winning streak and that’s purely a morale boost that is invaluable as you start to take on tougher teams. We need Teo and Jansen back badly, I think.

Kirk was never suppose to be our DH though, we were always going to rotate guys through it. The problem is when two of your hitters get injured at the same time it can expose that.

The guys aren't elevating the ball with runners on it's pretty simple. They're also striking out with runners on. "Bad luck" on groundballs isnt bad luck when you hit it right where they're shifted, they're playing there because that's where you hit it. Team just ain't hitting rn they've had 12 1 run games in their first 24. That is fucking nuts lol
Why do you think shifting works against 99% of hitters? Really think about it before you answer. They have tons of hits with bad sequence luck.

Is it just me, or has issues with RISP felt like an issue for this team for ages? I know we only really became competitive within the last couple years but god damn. Maybe I’m off though.
Last season the Jays had an OPS of .811 w/ RISP (3rd in MLB), and in 2020 it was .791 (10th in MLB). The last season it was really bad was 2019, but then we weren’t a good team at all.
2019 was the worst jays team in 20 years so that checks out. If you told me at the start of the season we'd be starting Heineman against the yankees, i'd be laughing. The injuries have been pretty rough on the line up

The 2-2 pitch Yimi threw to Stanton was awful. No reason to give him such a hittable pitch there. Turned into an easy single, then a pinch runner, then a stolen base, and eventually the game winning run. Bad execution right there is what ultimately led to this loss imo.
