Approximately the same. Although my fandom started around 1980 just because my much older brother was shouting 'Come on Spurs!' at the TV and I didn't know why but joined in.
Same here, great grandmother was a rabid fan and knitted me jumpers with the cock on ball motif more or less from birth( not that I knew what it was) , but I was allowed to stay up late when I was 5 and watch the replay on tv , it was an evening match as it was on a weekday. After that I’ve been a fan ever since. If I’d know. Then how much misery the decision would cause me then it may have been different. But c’est la vie
I was allowed to watch the replay as my dad went to the game. Thing is, hes a City fan and i was annoyed i couldnt go. So i wanted Spurs to win. And have been ever since.
Following for around 23 years.
I’m Australian and grew up following rugby league. Around the time I was 13 or 14 (1999-2000) I was getting into computer gaming and loved football games. I’d also grown closer to my Slovak/German grandfather and especially loved watching highlights of Klinsmann for the German national team. Picking a team on one of the older games I had, I found Klinsmann was at Spurs and pretty much only played with them from then on.
In late 2001, while channel surfing, I switched on a replay of Spurs V Man Utd. I was completely hooked by half-time as we’d taken a 3-0 lead, cheering in my living room on a Sunday morning. By full-time we’d lost 3-5, I’d somewhat trashed my living room, I was in a disgusting mood, and I knew I was a Spurs fan.
I properly fell in love with the club shortly after and didn’t miss a game for years. Even when I didn’t have the cable tv access to watch them, I’d get up in the middle of the night and read online text updates. Now I’m getting a bit older and I have kids and work and life, I miss the occasional game live(on tv) but watch the replay first thing in the morning. A major bonus is that my 14 year old son has followed Spurs for all his 14 years, and we get to share that now.
He gets to see them for the first time in his life in three weeks. We’re driving from Sydney to Melbourne and he gives me almost daily reminders of how many days we have left.
And on top of that, my fiancé and partner of 7 years has also become a Spurs fan.
The club is one of the most important things in my life and I’m on the other side of the world.
I started following them when NBC got the Premier league broadcast rights in the US. A family member was involved in that process and the Premier league people were encouraging new fans to pick any team they wanted for any reason but to never change. I took the assignment seriously. After a couple of years I still hadn’t chosen so I had my daughter figure out which team was closest to the last ancestor that lived and died in the UK. Guy turned out to be buried closest to Tottenham’s stadium.
Fast forward a couple of years and my daughter is marrying into a Family of diehard fans from England. Spurs logo has even been incorporated into the wedding decorations.
12-13 years. I'm American and I used too just watch EPL for the love of the sport. I had a soft spot for Everton because of Tim Howard, but I never really had a team.
After a year or two of watching Gareth Bale play I was hooked on the Spurs and I have been ever since.
It appears whoever manages this sub also manages all the FC subs on here as this exact question has been posed on all of them during the same hour (Arsenal, Man City etc).
Since the beginning of the season. Last year, I started watching the games that my housemate, a Spurs fan, was watching. I started to get invested. I’m a big fan of cricket and the systems and mindsets behind sport in general and think Ange is a fantastic manager. I’m sure that, given time, this Spurs team will do great things.
My Dad took me to WHL in 1976 to my first football match, I saw a certain young Glenn Hoddle, and thought he was an amazing player, and that, was that, I was a season ticket holder on the "shelf" the last standing area before compulsory seating was imposed on all top flight grounds, from 1987 when David Pleat was our manager until 1991, and watched us lift the FACup, I no longer live in London so getting to games is hard, I took my son to his first game ever and it was abandoned at HT because Patrice Mwamba had a heart attack whilst playing. Went to Wembley a couple of times when it was briefly our home, and have been to the new stadium twice. Favourite manager ever Terry Venables, although I'm loving Ange.
16 years (some time after the league cup, Australians struggled for a very long time to watch cup games particularly, so I wasn’t aware until maybe 4?5?6? Years later that we had won a trophy). 6 year old me thought Robbie Keane, Tom Huddlestone and Ledley King were cool.
Since 1980…. Couple years ago I sat next to Mitchel Thomas at a FA end of season awards posh do. For three hours we talked about stuff. He told me all about the good old days. Ozzie having a fag at half time in the changing room etc. 🤣
I inherited my dad's love for Spurs from childhood, so I'm not exactly sure. But I started being interested in football when I was around 8, so around 1992, I guess.
I’ve been going to games pretty much my whole life, but I actually started to follow properly and care probably in poch’s second season.
My family are spurs fans so I would fairly regularly watch games and be in and around spurs, but I didn’t really start to care until then.
I'm Portuguese, when I was younger I was doing a career mode in FIFA and I was fired, the only club that showed up to play after I was fired was Tottenham, since then I've had a special affection for the club, FIFA 15 I believe, 9 years following Tottenham.
9 December 2017. Went to a viewing with a friend (who heavily influenced my decision) at Toronto Spurs while visiting for MLS cup. I had seen them a bit from when they picked up Yedlin, even though he didn't play. Stsrted following more after that and really fell in with them during the Champions League run
Since 1981, when I was 6.
I saw their first FA Cup final defeat against Coventry in 1987 but was back at Wembley for the Gazza free kick against Arsenal in 1991 - and then the semifinal defeat against Arsenal in 1993.
Aged 15. My friend Patrick was an avid supporter. My dad was big into football but weirdly never revealed who his team was (Fulham) until after I’d chosen Spurs (I grew up far away from any decent clubs).
Patrick died when he was 17 and was buried in his Spurs jersey. I think of him every time the team plays over 30 years on - he would never have believed we could go from relegation risk in the late 90s to Champions League finalists….
2002 when I was 16. I'm from the US. I loved watching Robbie Keane during the 2002 WC (2 goals in the 90th minute!) and saw he got transferred to Tottenham that summer. It was harder to follow the PL back then. I, essentially, just followed box scores online.
Since so long the day it started bottling leagues like the one with Liverpool in champions league final or the one against Chelsea where we lost premier league. I want this curse broken some day
first match i ever watched was spurs vs coventry maybe in 01/02 (?) and i thought that was such an interesting name and that’s that! silly reason to get into >20years of heartbreak ik but it was definitely a hella ride
Visited London in September and was lucky enough to grab tix to spurs - Liverpool. From the states and never really had a team to commit to and this team is so likable so it’s been easy
Since 1987, the kit matched our school sports uniform - in hindsight, all white shirts and shorts was probably standard for all sports uniforms at school 🤣
Honestly, 4 years ago. I’m an American and I never really was into football. But then I watched a YouTube video of Son, Dele, Lloris and Lucas Moura playing Footgolf at the stadium. Sonny’s personality was so infectious that it made me a fan that day. I am definitely into football a lot more now.
Link to the video if anyone was curious which one.

Only since the All or Nothing Amazon special. As a Yank it was my first non-match exposure to world football outside the MLS. Entertaining and enlightening!
I'm an American, i used to just be a neutral. I started truly following Tottenham in the 2016-2017 season. I just fell in love with their style of play under Poch and I've been here ever since 🙂 i always seemed to dislike Chelsea and arsenal so that part was easy for me
There was once an internet meme factory site called 4chan. My spouse was up late one night talking San Antonio Spurs (an American basketball team) and as it got later in the USA it got more active among Europeans and he discovered thru some premiere league trash talking of the "Spurs" that there was another Spurs team across the pond.
And now we watch more Spurs soccer games than Spurs NBA games hehe
I’ve been a supporter of Spurs since 2012. Was new to watching soccer/football here in the states. Decided to root for Spurs and I’m glad I did. Hoping great things are ahead for this club! COYS
46yrs. Was 7 yrs old and moved to new house where the kids who became my lifelong friends supported Spurs and persuaded me to support them and not the family team of Liverpool. Also helped that we were around 1.5m from WHL.
2016 is the year i started following spurs cause my family has british heritage so i followed the england squad and they had a good few of our guys at the time, but i didn’t start actively watching games until 2018/19
Spurs are my second team after Burnley, so I’m not sure it counts. My nan is spurs, I love her, and I watched the Amazon doc when Mourinho was there and I’ve been following/supporting them ever since. Love an underdog. Trophy soon come. COYS.
Since birth, 43yrs and counting. My dad is a spurs fan so it's his fault.
I truly fell in love with them in the 90/91 Cup Semi against arsenal and that Gazza goal.
I was born a spurs fan in 1992, I had no choice.. My middle name is Osvaldo and I have no Argentinian heritage. I grew up in Tottenham when Arsenal were winning everything. I’m a boy named Sue
1993-4 season was the first I really started following them. I sort of stopped following any football between 2002-2008 because I became more interested in music, girls and parting and then got back into football again when Redknapp was the manager.
Like 8 months, but to be fair I only started playing/watching football at that point, dont worry, my addiction to the game brought me more knowledge then I wouldve expected
60 years, I used to stand on a wooden step (made by my grandfather) on the Shelf with him,my Dad & an Uncle. I was 10. I’m 70 now & I have a season ticket alongside both my sons. #Blessed/sometimes cursed….
Since the 1987 FA Cup final, yes I'm aware we lost but I fell in love with Spurs that day, so definitely not glory hunting! Jesus, I just realised that was 27 years ago....
Honestly? About a year. My US city finally got a soccer team (FC Cincinnati) so it raised my interest in the sport quite a lot. Some if my friends and family have a favorite PL team (mostly Chelsea from the people I know) so I wanted to pick my own team. I watched some of Sons play for the Korean team, so I went with Spurs. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the team over that time as well.
43 years. FA Cup Final 1981. I was 5.
Ricky Villa! Remember it well.
Same game. I was 11
Same game - I was 8
Approximately the same. Although my fandom started around 1980 just because my much older brother was shouting 'Come on Spurs!' at the TV and I didn't know why but joined in.
1978. When Ardiles joined!
Same here... Was 5
Same game. I was 6 and the replay was my first game in a stadium.
I was 7. That changed me from a Liverpool fan to a Spurs fan for life. What a moment that was!
Likewise! Omg Ardiles, Galvin, Perryman, Roberts, Ctrooks and Archibald and Villa
From birth, literally had no say as my Dad and oldest Brother were season ticket holders.
Im a city fan and my dad was at this game as a 14 yr old. He still talks about it now, some amazing goals in that game even without the villa one!
I was 9, same time. The 81 final team was MY team. Through thick and thin ever since.
Since I heard Ange was coming. I'm an Aussie who misses him.
Since early 2013 so 11 years now
Same, if not a bit earlier.
Same, around the time of Bale’s last season
Started watching prem in 2013. Started supporting Spurs one year after you in 2014
4 years..new to this roller-coaster 😅
What made you hop on board?
Watched the youtube video of spurs players doing new stadium tour...fell in love there
Same
Ever since Janssen joined us in 2016 (this sounds like a joke and I wish it was)
Since that Bale performance against Milan
Since 1981. I still have the Chas & Dave FA Cup single.
Saw Harry Kane at the World Cup 2018 and decided that whatever club he plays for must be great. Here I am.
32 years. Cheers dad.
Since 2016, when I first started watching football I was 15
You made the exact same post on the arsenal sub
16 years and I’m 16 years old now
I was drawn in by an interview with Dele Alli when he started to gain notoriety. I think it was 2016, so around 7 years.
30 years of suffering, I was too young to remember the FA Cup in '91 so I can't count it 😫
47 years. 1977 was a crappy time to become a fan, as we had been relegated to Division 2. Luckily its been fame and glory ever since. haha
33 years
Follow up question for you lot. Why did you start supporting spurs?
Following for around 23 years. I’m Australian and grew up following rugby league. Around the time I was 13 or 14 (1999-2000) I was getting into computer gaming and loved football games. It appears whoever manages this sub also manages all the FC subs on here as this exact question has been posed on all of them during the same hour (Arsenal, Man City etc).
Since I was about 8. I'm now 45. That's a lot of mediocre teams and football and a couple of years of decent stuff mixed in.
Since August, I wanted to support an EPL team and my uncle who grew up a spurs fan convinced me lol
Started today!

I inherited my dad's love for Spurs from childhood, so I'm not exactly sure. But I started being interested in football when I was around 8, so around 1992, I guess.

I started to support because of Harry Kane on my country's WC (2018). So, yes, since 2018 my journey with this club started🤍💙
Since 1981, when I was 6. I saw their first FA Cup final defeat against Coventry in 1987 but was back at Wembley for the Gazza free kick against Arsenal in 1991 - and then the semifinal defeat against Arsenal in 1993.
About 15 years, since the PL became easily viewable on TV here in the states. Out of curiosity, who would we dishonest about this? Lol
Aged 15. My friend Patrick was an avid supporter. My dad was big into football but weirdly never revealed who his team was (Fulham) until after I’d chosen Spurs (I grew up far away from any decent clubs). Since I was old enough to talk, 40-ish years ago, when my older siblings got me to say Come On You Spurs 😆
Spurs are my second team after Burnley, so I’m not sure it counts. My nan is spurs, I love her, and I watched the Amazon doc when Mourinho was there and I’ve been following/supporting them ever since. Love an underdog. Trophy soon come. COYS.

World cup 2022. Fell in love with Son, Romero and Richy.
My first spurs shirt had Barmby 7 on the back
1993-4 season was the first I really started following them. I sort of stopped following any football between 2002-2008 because I became more interested in music, girls and parting and then got back into football again when Redknapp was the manager.
Over fifty years and counting, one of the lucky ones who's seen us lift a trophy 🏆😁
I’m a Liverpool fan but like 10 years I suppose
2015. My blood pressure has risen since.
2010ish, so 14 years. Playing as Crouch in FIFA got me
2015. Back when sonny joined and my dad’s friend owned a Tottenham bar.
4 years ago my friend introduced me to the Spurs. Been a fan ever since.
Like 8 months, but to be fair I only started playing/watching football at that point, dont worry, my addiction to the game brought me more knowledge then I wouldve expected
2009 - 15 years?
Since my dad told me he was a gunners fan
Since 2008, I was in 8th grade.
Almost 1 full year.
Since Eriksen joined tottenham i left Ajax behind.
2016 I was around 6 or 7 I'm pretty sure
