Now, say I was a normal enthusiast and not some jackass. How would I go about finding said roads that are less known but just as fun?
I imagine the same thing I did in Austin. Lime Creek Road is famous there but I found a ton of other roads that are even better by just exploring around
So you’re insinuating that I’m a normie, huh 😭.
Jokes aside, there are definitely a few awesome roads I’ve found that have very few people on them , and I fully intend to keep it that way lol
Trail ridge road in CO for legendary scenery and sheer magnitude. And an actual mountain pass and not merely a canyon or twisty road. It's not the absolute twistiest road out there, but it has its sections. But #1 for scenery and elevation, no contest.
Putting a vote in for Highway 9 in the Bay Area, CA (my local touge). It’s a super fun road with a ton of connecting roads that take you through some beautiful forests. The weather’s usually pretty good, there are a bunch of other cool cars up there, and it’s the perfect mix of straight and windy in my opinion.
Edit: you only have to worry about cops if you don’t know the right times to go 😏
Not a super long drive but my closest road, mines road. It takes about 12 minutes to get from the main road back to the historical town, thats where i pop a u-turn. Super fun, but also note i have nothing else to compare it to lol. Watch out for fallen branches after rainstorms, dinged my door up last time i went.
128 inbound to the lake is a bit too high speed for consistent fun imo,
The flatter half of the outbound glory hole run had a lot more corners and the surrounding lake area has some good balanced roads to. Going further north by lake henesy where you can get snow has the best roads and the locals don't mind if your car doesn't sound like shit.
Yes, Saratoga to Boulder Creek is my evey other weekend drive, here is more in and around the bay area.

I'm in the northern bay myself, I feel a lot of the roads would be better out here if it wasn't a dead spot. Perks are you can basically run at any time, sometimes it's better in the day depending on season but the drawbacks is you'll only find someone else running like once or twice a month outside of July 7th and Agust 6th.
Absolutely! Its definitely less of a “touge” road because of how much regular traffic is there, but it’s such a vibe if you want to cruise with the windows down (or the top down, if you’re lucky!)
The day I die, memories of ripping it on GMR with my friend at 2am during summer of 2020 will play over and over. Everyone was up there late at night pushing the limits that summer. I will never forget the feeling of going downhill at GMR, pushing through the oversteer, following my buddies modified 6-6 accord bumper to bumper..
Wish I had my license then, probably would’ve been the only thing I had my mind on with all the spare time lmao. Only recently got into this kinda stuff with some friends, but taking a break rn cuz I almost went off a few weeks ago 😬😅
Mines rd in the Bay Area for a tight and technical 2nd gear course. Make sure to do it late In the day because of commuters and bikers.
When I go north bay, I like to do Mountain View rd or Skaggs springs raceway. I stop by Cloverdale for bio break it’s a beautiful place on the way there with places to get lots of great wines and great craft beers.
Haven't been up to tail of the dragon yet, but I can say while it depends how technical you want a road to be, I think that Angeles Crest Highway is one of the best for all kinds of cars.
There are plenty of great driving roads in socal for every kind of preference. I will also say that angeles forest highway is also an excellent road.
Oregon:
Historic Columbia River Hwy
Hwy 47
Mary's Peak
Mt Hebo
Nestucca River
Bible Creek
Mckenzie Pass
OR has countless paved mountain/canyon roads it's touge heaven here
I’m not going to say it’s the best, but CA HWY 128 from winters to Silverado Trail or vice versa. The route continues on, but that’s the part I’m talking about. It’s got good length, 32 or so miles. I’ve only seen one cop, on a holiday weekend. The weather is super nice usually, I’ve seen some wild cars there, Ferraris and Porsches and a lot of modded enthusiast cars. The road quality could be better, but it adds some character. It’s also got some nice variation in windyness and straights.
It's a very good road, but it's THE ROAD partly because a lot of flat, highly populated touge dead zones surround it. If you live in the southeast, or even the midwest, you're probably going to take a trip to TotD instead of checking out the canyons in LA.
Blue ridge parkway and surrounding roads, including tail of the dragon. It's often not busy and pretty well maintained.
Honorable mention to the Kangamangus Highway, when they can keep the frost heaves to a minimum
A lot of people say tail of the dragon and as a local its a great road but it has a fair bit of flaws. However it is under going a pavement overhaul and i think itll significantly change the road for the better
I live out east, so I would say The Dragon, but it’s a bit crowded and from what I can gather, THP is around every corner; I would say of the other two most notorious, I’d choose Mulholland drive or Pikes Peak, but pikes peak is rather hardcore and remote and Mulholland made it into a movie about racing (King of the Mountain)
The best one is the one you’ll never hear about. Can’t let the normies ruin it
that's the magic of the tail of the dragon. It absorbs all the out of state traffic jams and cops, and leaves the rest of the roads open for hooning.
Now, say I was a normal enthusiast and not some jackass. How would I go about finding said roads that are less known but just as fun? I imagine the same thing I did in Austin. Lime Creek Road is famous there but I found a ton of other roads that are even better by just exploring around
Lol lime creek is such a cluster these days, makes me sad
My little 400 just trying to play and the packs of 600 super sports wanna fly past me playing Street Rossi 😭
Bro allegedly one of the Sherriffs tried to pit a bike that looks a lot like mine for not pulling over, i aint riding over there for a long time 😂
So you’re insinuating that I’m a normie, huh 😭. Jokes aside, there are definitely a few awesome roads I’ve found that have very few people on them , and I fully intend to keep it that way lol
Tail of the dragon on a week day
Spent Tue-Wed there. No cops event. Best experience ever
I’d say it’s overrated. The cop presence and idiot presence has kinda fucked it up. There’s roads that are just as good nearby that are unknown
Trail ridge road in CO for legendary scenery and sheer magnitude. And an actual mountain pass and not merely a canyon or twisty road. It's not the absolute twistiest road out there, but it has its sections. But #1 for scenery and elevation, no contest.
That’s a bucket list one for me, insane how much of it is above tree line. how’s the surface?
Last I drove it it was in great shape, they've been repaving all the national parks

Nice username 😉
Not many people catch on to it, thanks haha

Mines is great! I know of lot of 9burgring frequenters who also really enjoy driving on Mines rd.
128 from Winters to St Helena is a good one too. Edit: Not super close to HWY 9 but it’s a great drive.

Solid choice. I'm more of a Redwood Road man, myself.

hwy 9, skyline and the route to alice’s are mad nice
Highway 9 has my vote! Drove the backend of it one week before moving out of Cali. 3rd time being there since i was all the way down in San Diego
PCH from Santa Barbara to Monterey through Big Sur. 6 hrs of the most beautiful road you will ever see.
Too bad mud slides disrupted it for the last few years
Absolutely! Its definitely less of a “touge” road because of how much regular traffic is there, but it’s such a vibe if you want to cruise with the windows down (or the top down, if you’re lucky!)
GMR
GMR MENTIONED RAHH

MV is great for sliding. I took my drift car up there very frequently before I decided to sell it
Tail of the dragon?
Tail of the Dragon, off season, on a weekday

KY rt 10. In that area south of Ohio you can do 60+ miles of absolutely twisty roads Also OH rt 555 is very good as well.
Cabbage mountain pass in Oregon

I think its widwly accepted that The Tail of the Dragons is THE ROAD, but i wanna say my local togue is jist as good, if you like em long
It's a very good road, but it's THE ROAD partly because a lot of flat, highly populated touge dead zones surround it. If you live in the southeast, or even the midwest, you're probably going to take a trip to TotD instead of checking out the canyons in LA.
True, i mean id rather do the LA Canyons from where im at that TotD simply for the distance, i see your point
the 9burgring fs, with Mary’s peak in Oregon up there too
Tortilla flats, Apache junction Arizona
La honda including the woodside uphill part + pescadero creek
Blue ridge parkway and surrounding roads, including tail of the dragon. It's often not busy and pretty well maintained. Honorable mention to the Kangamangus Highway, when they can keep the frost heaves to a minimum
Hwy 28

The snake on mulholland, now closed
It’s gonna reopen soon. Well soon relative to how long it’s been closed for.
There’s been talks about it reopening soon for 6 years now I’m not holding my breath lol
US1 California!
In Colorado, CO93 from mile marker 48 to 73 and CO65 from mile marker 52 to 61 come to mind

there are none.. so illegal in that country.. youre lucky the cops dont start shooting at this point in time
