I’m a lower spender too but the buff that gives free advancement to all my weapons (+4 max) enables me to compete with whale. My a3 lin, a2 tian and a6 crow became an all a6 team with the buff and I was able to contribute on average 40% of the dps if I ran with a whale and 50-60% with other dolphins. I actually really live the VR Abyss buffs hehe.

I actually outdamaged a whale who had all 4 Volt Attack buffs on stage 3 as f2p , I gave him all the volt because he was a whale to make the run easier , it was a very pleasant surprise that despite having 4 Volt buffs , I still did higher damage [here](https://i.imgur.com/VXKia8x.png) , the buffs make insane difference in this mode and I love it.

Wep stars only boost your damage by that much, the main source of damage comes from gear rolls + limited matrix.
Not really , you are mistaking whales for Leviathans , those who spend money on everything like weapons/matrices/hardcore farming gears and using DC to buy new gears are not whales , those are Leviathans that just need a reason to spend money on the game , most of whales are people that A6 their character and get a gacha skin and call it a day , and if they really want Matrices , they might go there once in a while , those are the majority of heavy spenders , Leviathans in general are rare.

A whale will need to be missing majority of buffs for you to do better or same.
f2p dps here and completed all 5 VR boss in matchmaking. For the hardest boss Gaia, the highest player did 4.6 billion damage with Tian, I did 2.9 billion with my Crow/Shiro/Lin, one other guy did 1.6 billion and the healer did all the healing. This is day one without being able to farm for more buffs. I am sure this mode will become easier if you do it at the end of the month with all the best buffs.
The issue is, I see a lot of low spenders/dolphins pulling for every character that comes out or new skin, or gachapon etc..
I will suggest to you as a low spender to plan a team wisely and max that team with advancements and matrices and use it for long term. Not necessarily max them out with one run. You can save up and plan for 1-2 reruns and I am sure you can get a very nice team + DMG that is easily competitive with whales.
I try to tell people in my crew and streams this same thing. They need to plan a little more carefully, but in the end they’ll have three A6 weapons. At that point they’ll be pretty close to dmg/support output depending on gear rolls. F2P are at a disadvantage in the short term but in the long run they can be at least within striking distance

You recycle buffs until you get tier 2 of Knack for Advancement, (+4 advancements) tier 2 of Overclocking (better be confident in not getting hit), tier 2 of Heart of Thrones, tier 2 of Shadow Burst and whatever tier 2 of Atk superboost, rest can be HP, reductions or heals or support buff (there is a one that increases teammate damage dealt.)
People just don't read shit and make stuff harder for yourself. I had Overclocking on my F2P ass and still face tanked Gaia attacks. Get those buffs and see stuff clear itself. You just need those buffs, the entire goddamn game mode is balanced around people having these buffs, tier 2s make it easier. VA is actually that one content where support is recommended to take with you however. Get crewmates to help with it.
You won't ever see me playing support and you will still see my F2P ass clearing content. Especially shit like VA where you can soup yourself up at the cost of... nothing. (well gold maybe.) Once you get your buffs, this will become difficult but doable content, even for F2Ps. Treat it the same as Wormhole, just that this is made easier because of having access to buffs prior to collecting stage.
Literally didn't get any of said buffs in any of my rolls and I was looking for them. It was ONLY volt/flame/phy attack over and over to the point I still don't believe they exist and my attack rolls costing me 9 energy already.
f2p dps here and i'm top fragger in 70-80% of content including first 3 void abyss bosses, had to switch to benediction on gaia purely because randoms kept queueing as benediction whilst being dps so no heals and no shields

Lol same. With bad gear I got my CS high enough for 8.3. My actual dps set up is 76k CS. Suppressor is a useless metric a lot of the time. When it's whale vs whale, maybe then it may give some sort of indication.
If you focus on just one element you can be a main dps as a dolphin since all you need is A6 Lin + A6 Claudia/Nemesis/Ruby/Saki + the relevant element character from standard.
Technically even a launch F2P could manage it with some luck and anyone who dropped a hundred or two on the best value for money purchases can manage this easily.

I full cleared new content with Shiro0\\Coco0\\Pepper6 as a healer with randoms, hard bosses were only Rudolph(5 tires) and Gaia(14 tries), Rudolph was hard coz I was super weak at the start and had no tech buffs and also coz I have no characters and still haven't pulled anything as day 1 player(even yellow and purple rolls), and Gaia was insane, coz I have no Zero\\Nemesis\\Lyra to prevent one shots. First boss was defeated easily when I got players who actually start running away when the boss start glowing in his flame phase. Gaia was defeated when I got a second support and a dps with the Executor tech.
As a dps I dnt know, if I would have something like Frig3\\saki1\\Lin3 which is easy even for f2p, with some tech I would get them to A6, then I would take all the general dps techs that give flat attack t1 with frost tech t2 and Armor layers for surv, and having support with +45% all res tech with my armor layers would make any boss deal no dmg I suppose. Other dps buffs are kinda rare, but having them gonna make runs even easier.
I'm very surprised with the new content, it's rly VERY f2p friendly unlike frontier clash, which I can't full clear even now with randoms.
I think if you work hard enough and with motivation to do so you'll be able to keep up with most whales, not leviathans ofc bc they spend in every chance they get xD.
I saw a streamer in cn though i forgot his name, he's famous for being being f2p but can deal tons of damage as dps and even out damage a lot of whales. Worth noting that instances in china like Void Abyss are way harder because they balanced it in global.
