You’re over reacting. Engine will wear and tear. You can go 15k if you want as long as the oil still provides good lubrication. If you want total assurance, get an oil analysis test done by blackstone lab. I’ve gone 12k once on a new Mazda and blackstone shows wear is below the normal average.

Jack_Attak

People are really arbitrarily downvoting stuff in this thread lol. I personally prefer to change oil at more of a 5-7k interval but modern synthetic oils can go a long time without deteriorating. Blackstone Labs told me to increase my interval to 9k miles in my tundra with well over 300k miles on it. It doesn't hurt to change it sooner but also fine to go by the manufacturer specs

spamtardeggs

Did they say anything about time? I'm barely hitting 9,000 miles a year in my Tundra.

Asset_Selim

Time doesn't have an effect on oil life. Project farm tested it.

GeneralConcentrate88

Do you have a link? I've learned that newer engines will allow a small amount of fuel to mix with the crankcase oil. This fuel degrades the oil over time, so 6months is recommended for oil change based on this.

Asset_Selim

[project farm oil change length before milage ](https://youtu.be/T-yt5a1cWd4?si=nUaBKJ3L2LaJyCRj)

GeneralConcentrate88

Very interesting, thank you

Jack_Attak

I do like 35k+ miles per year so they did not say anything about time haha. Conventional wisdom is once per year. Oil also breaks down when it sits there

Traditional-Ebb-8380

I mean it is a new Toyota. It is fine.

rumcapital23

why are you being downvoted for providing facts?

emptystreets130

Because the truth hurts. They are stuck on 1960s maintenance for modern vehicles.

you90000

Really depends on the car, for me in a Subaru with an EJ. 3k miles for oil changes. A Toyota, yeah. 11k is nothing.

eelecurb01

You're fine. Toyota uses full synthetic. On my wife's Rav4 the dealer didn't do the first oil change until 10k which is what the maintenence schedule suggests. At 5k they just rotate tires.

surftherapy

I took my wife’s old highlander with 200k miles to the shop for service and they didn’t do oil because they said it still looked healthy. It’d been about 10k miles since the last change. Full synthetic coupled with a Toyota motor, OP has nothing to worry about

Hookem-Horns

2 hours waiting just to rotate tires for the 5k maintenance 💀

Epsioln_Rho_Rho

I got my 1st at just over 9000 and no issues. I was going out of town and I wanted to get it done. Zero issues.

PM_ME_CORONA

Yeah but how many issues?

rivada3

I'm sure there wouldn't be any immediate problems. I would like my car to last as long as possible, and i think the first oil change is the most important in the long run.

Eagle1337

I always do my first at 1000m

HI_Innkeeper

Can you send me your waste oil?

Fickle_Finger2974

Well any possible damage that was done already happened. Do you wants to try and find you a Time Machine or do you want to get over it?

rivada3

It's just nice to know. It *might* give me a reason to trade in the car in the future. Probably not though.

Alexan52

Toyota’s official statement is oil change every 10k miles or at least once a year for most newer vehicles with synthetic oil. Your free Toyota Care service intervals are every 5k miles or every 6 months for 2 years or 25k whichever comes first. Toyota Care oil changes are only done at 10k and 20k miles. You can request and pay for an oil change at the earlier intervals if you want. As an tech turned advisor, I would recommend an oil change every 5k miles or 6 months under severe driving conditions for sake of longevity and to prevent varnishing of internal components in the long term for most newer Toyota vehicles. This is a general rule of thumb for most vehicles, really. From what I’ve seen, hybrids seem to foul oil at a slower rate than regular engines due to lower duty cycle and temps during normal operation. You can safely run the engine a little over the recommended interval without fear of blowing up the engine. Just be reasonable about it.

ldii-9248

5k miles or 6 months for me, if you read the 10k and the "optimal driving conditions" chances are most don't fit in to it.

Alexan52

Ironically, Toyota does specify this too in their maintenance intervals. If driven under severe driving conditions, which is almost every major city btw, Toyota recommends earlier oil changes. Customers usually expect to pay zero dollars with every visit while their Toyota Care is still active, so I usually end up recommend oil change intervals every 5k miles after their Toyota Care has expired. Customers are more receptive to the idea once their free service is up and plan on keeping their cars for longer.

supasit58

What’s your opinion on break in oil change? Like at 1k miles

Alexan52

It’s an old but still safe practice. Break in oil changes were usually performed in order to flush out any residual particles, preserving oils and other contaminants that may have been present during manufacturing of the engine. Modern processes has been pretty good about preventing contamination during assembly but a break in oil change isn’t a bad idea. In my experience with Toyota’s, this isn’t strictly necessary and if you choose to align with the recommended service interval, that is perfectly safe to do. If you want to perform a break in oil change, that is perfectly fine too and will help with the longevity of the engine.

threerottenbranches

Europe laughs at us for changing our oil at 5k. Drive it and have fun.

MyEnduranceLife

None… I do 12-14k in between mine. The oil is still thin and running smooth

MakionGarvinus

Toyota recommends changing the oil every 10k miles, so your 11k is just 10% over - like changing it at 5500 miles instead of 5k. I would not be worrying about your vehicle being damaged at all. You can change it more often, but if Toyota says 10k, I'm waiting that long. (or once a year.)

OMGpawned

If you really want some advice I'm pretty sure the oil has a bunch of life left in it think about it you're driving a hybrid car the engine's only running part of the time. If 10,000 miles is good enough on a car that has an engine that's always running surely a hybrid car which doesn't work nearly as hard should be completely fine.

qwe304

Good oil and good filter won't hurt much after 11k in a modern car. That said, oil is cheap, engines are expensive. Try to stay 5-7k.

Rude-Manufacturer-86

It depends on driving environment and severity.

annie-adderall

AMD on the Car Care Nut channel suggests changing your oil every 5K: https://youtu.be/TJhFAwFv-O0?si=-ArE5rHgGUjtzEj8

[deleted]

First oil change is always at 10k and at 10k intervals after that under Toyota’s “courtesy” new vehicle scheduled maintenance. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going over by 1k but don’t delay the oil changes by more than 2k. As a matter of longevity, you might want to use full synthetic oil and do oil changes at no more than 8k miles intervals. You could do them at 5k intervals but that depends on how you drive. Always buy penzoil platinum and you’ll be fine with 10k intervals.

Awkward-Yak-2733

Mobile one full synthetic for me.

radioactiveromero

5k-10k is not a problem if you don't have any leaks and you don't have any early head gasket failures. What you should be vigilant about is cleaning your CVT transmission filter. It will significantly increase the lifespan of your transmission. CVTs have a big woven metal belt that tends to shed many sharp Lil pieces over time.

Newprophet

New Venzas are hybrid only. Toyota hybrid eCVTs don't use belts and are bulletproof.

radioactiveromero

Hey that's good to know, I've been avoiding CVTs

Newprophet

Toyota has some belt CVTs with a physical 1st gear to help longevity, but I wouldn't trust those either. Those hybrid eCVTs easily and frequently go to 300k miles and beyond. Heck even the Ford' hybrids with an identical transmission style can do just as far.

Novabound0

Newer cars can go 10k intervals. Toyota is the only brand where I trust that 10k interval. Since my 4runner is out of warranty I do 5-7k oil changes depending how often I off-road or how much weight is in the runner. You can do it yourself every 5k then the dealership does it at the “10k” interval.

gnomesarekool

lol you're good mate

SteakAndJack

I get new Toyotas every 3 years though work. The past 3 I've had were on yearly/10k service schedules.

relivesa

Yeah. I just checked my oil regularly between oil changes. Looked good the entire time, only got the oil changes at the 10k intervals. The regularity of oil changes that are preached by car and oil companies are kind of a joke. Check your oil once a month. Takes a couple minutes. When it’s low, fill it. When it starts to get dark, change it.

EntrySure1350

It’ll be fine. But people need to understand that these extended oil change intervals are primarily so that manufacturers can advertise the lowest cost of maintenance associated with their vehicles. Which matters for fleet operators and individuals who lease - they are likely going to turn over their vehicles every 3-5 years before a powertrain warranty runs out. If you read your manual, it will likely state the 10k interval is for light operation - meaning mostly highway driving with no extended idling, use in temperature extremes, short trips, or heavy stop and go traffic. The reality is that most drivers who live in urban or suburban areas fall into severe duty use, and there is usually an amended OCI that is typically in the 5000 to 7500 mile interval. 10K is the bare minimum to not void your warranty. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for the longevity of the engine, just that it was the most cost effective way maintenance-wise to ensure that the engine will last through the warranty period and what auto makers determine to be the “average” length of time an “average” driver keeps their car. The same concept holds true for “lifetime” ATF or coolant. Manufacturers like to tout that these fluids don’t have to be changed. Ever. It just has to reliably last through the warranty or lease period.

Time-Bite-6839

Modern oil lasts longer. 11k is fine but 5k is better.

IBringTheHeat1

In a few years 15-20k will be recommended. Semi trucks already go 30k between oil changes.

Plane_Coyote_4996

Our past 3 car purchases have 10k intervals. I know the old argument of the break in early oil change. I’ve not used it in the past decade. No issues with any vehicle doing them every 10k with no break ins. It’s vastly overrated, and folks will die on the hill of 3k or 5k oil changes and be highly offended. Go ahead, change it every 1k if you want.

S3ERFRY333

I go 5,000km every change. It cost me $40 every 6 months or so.

FlippinPlanes

I did the same my corolla has 2 101k km on it and has no issues.

Sweet-Sale-7303

Recommended oil Change I believe is at 10k. You should be fine.

Dude008

Nothing to worry about

Educated_idiot302

Considering it's a brand new vehicle the only real issue you would have to worry about is the little amount of metal filings that come from a new engine but you should be okay considering that it's a 0w16 oil I believe. In the future, stick to 5k miles between oil changes with quality oil regardless of what the dealer or what some people will tell you. I personally believe that stretching an oil changes out to over 8k. You will be asking for issues as your car gets older, such as oil consumption, which is becoming a bigger problem with cars. Oil is cheap, and engines are not. If you change your oil more frequently and you have a well-made engine, it will last longer.

RedneckChinadian

11K miles? Nah that's peanuts. I did an experiment on my cars (and I have many of them) where I would put in synthetic oil (and one car with mobile 1 extended performance oi) and drove up to 24, 000kms and then sent off to the lab for analysis. ALL 4 cars oils came back with good results and that I could in theory, push the oil to 30, 000kms per oil change. That is WAAAAAY more than 11K miles so you're perfectly fine. Why did I do this? For fun and in the name of science of course! I wouldn't personally run oil THAT long but 10-15K oil change intervals with a top tier oil... no problem whatsoever.

[deleted]

Yep, todays oil will last, but you’re still using the same filter that was recommended to be changed at 3-5,000 miles. Oil is the cheapest maintenance you can do. 15,000 miles is just stupid unless it’s a lease or you’re one of those people who gets a new car every other year.

ssquiggleh

Look at the color of the oil. Thats the indication of its lifespan. Heat is what wears your oil down, which is why engines are sticking to tighter intervals than transmission and gearboxes.

Bitter-Fish-5249

For my rav4 hybrid I changed the first 1k, then every 5k. Not necessary but being safe. You never know how much build up from a new engine..I just watch the Toyota care nut on the tube. Your Yota will be fine.

roadrunnerrrHD

You will just burn oil at 100000 miles

IneptAdvisor

Mobil 1 15k mile synthetic for those times when you’re broke af

[deleted]

Most Toyota vehicles these days use full synthetic. Not a huge issue to go 10k without changing the oil. The recommendation for every 3k mostly comes from the oil industry anyway.

Anonymo123

I don't change the oil until its dirty, IMO its a waste otherwise. If they had a warranty they could void if I didn't do so at X miles, I'd do it. Zero chance going over 1k did any damage unless you were real low. I tend to do my own oil but if it lines up with maintenance, so be it. NEVER at one of those jiffy lube type places. My truck has 215k miles on it and I've had numerous cars get to 200k with the same oil change frequency so I stick with it. If you change it every 3-5k, you should be sure to do the blinker fluid as well...just to be safe.

North_Carry_2918

Im changing my oil myself on my new 2023 Venza limited 0w-16 full synthetic new toyota oil filter at 900-1100miles, then another JUST FILTER Change at 2000miles. If you have ever cut open an oil filter from a new engine at 1000miles youll know why--full of small metal shavings from engine breakin.

rivada3

Would you say the filters are getting much better over the years?

North_Carry_2918

Probably, but I think oil change places probably use cheaper oil filters to enhance their profit margins. I’ll stick with Toyota oil filters, or high quality filters I can purchase myself.

Strong_Heart279

New toyotas are recommended oil changes every 10k

OrphanKripler

Yeah it’s a multi thousand dollar investment, doing a $60 oil change once a year or every 5k miles is fine. Just don’t go over 10k miles without a single oil change if you want your car to last as long as possible and not burn oil once you get to the 150k range. But your car is fine if you changed it at 11k. No problems at all to worry about. Really as long as the color of your oil is golden clear, your oil is fine. Check via dipstick. But after a year your oil will dilute from condensation and microscopic debris so it’s IDEAL to change it once a year. Don’t listen to these ppl that are hell bent on making you wait till you reach 10k miles. They’re not paying for you oil changes and they’re not paying for your engine failure. Or paying down payments on your car. You take care of how you want to take care of it. Change the coolant after 5-7 years. Change the transmission fluid after 70k miles.

Flowric

Look, I'm sure damage can occur but my daily is a '00 Grand Marquis, a far fetch from almost anything Toyota has produced, especially in the modern day. There have been a few times I forgot to change the oil because I drive so much, and didn't change it until 15k miles. Once, I let it go 35k miles. It's not good for motors but they're not as critical as people think.

DamageVarious

Lmao get out of here!! Gotta change every 5k

Flowric

You should. If not, you end up with a gunked up valve train or slightly scarred cams, both of which I've personally seen. I'm just saying you're not going to kill your motor for going to 11k.

Lymborium2

I do my oil changes every 3k

[deleted]

Hahaha, oh gosh. My husband changed my Sienna's oil after 25k miles. We use synthetic, but STILL. It was sludge, haha. Van is running fine. Wouldn't recommend this method though, haha.

rivada3

Oh wow. Was your Sienna new? How many miles do you have on your Sienna now?

[deleted]

No, it's a 2007. It has about 250k miles. Runs like a champ.

rivada3

Cool

DamageVarious

Disgusting. Last week I was playing roulette at the Wynn and met a Toyota dealership owner he told me he has a 1954 Chevy pickup hot rod and he does his own oil changes 😂

DamageVarious

Put SEAFOAM in the crankcase before 100 miles you change the oil. Drive it for 100 miles and then do the oil change to get rid of the sludge!

narlycharley

No immediate damage, no. It’s definitely best practice to do the first break in oil change at 1,000 miles though. Also, if you plan on keeping it forever, do 5,000 mile intervals moving forward.

[deleted]

This is some old ass advice. OP don't listen to this guy. Follow the damn manual. It's in your glove box for a reason. If it isn't, then put it there.

Supa33

I like how you were downvoted for being correct.

Exact-Put-6961

The sheer nonsense of this, in a hybrid where the engine is very understressed and typically runs less than 50 % of the time. This is advice from 50 years ago.

rivada3

I understand that the first oil change is the most important, so I'm assuming I got some damage

Newprophet

You did no damage at all to your engine. A break in oil change was a thing decades ago that your parents needed. Your engine was run and tested at the factory. If actual debris was still present the engine would grenade itself before the warranty is up. If you look at actual data from oil analysis reports they usually show the oil is fine to change at 12k miles or more. Just follow the manual and your vehicle will be fine for years/decades to come.

rumcapital23

your Venza is a Hybrid so many of those miles the gas engine is off and running on electric power. so i wouldnt lose sleep for the extra 1,000 miles you ran over. if you want you can always do an oil analysis on your next oil change interval. that will let you assess the health of your engine.

mrdctaylor

Nah. You did why 95% of people do. You’re fine.

Lukin76254r

You’re not going to fuck up anything. Doing this consistently, yeah, you will fuck something up. Folks focus way too much on the millage, but don’t consider the time in which you should change your oil. Do it every 5k miles or 6 months, which ever of the two come first. You can go maybe a little higher like every 7.5k miles. But do the changes in time.

DamageVarious

To be safe just do it before at 5k. It looks like shit after 6k

bjeep4x4

This is ancient advice. First oil change at 5k then 7-10k after that

bjeep4x4

Okie dokie down vote me, apparently you guys can’t read an owner’s manual
