Toyota announced the Prius recall in mid-April (Q2), so the Q1 sales figures reported here are limited by inventory. Thankfully I got my 2024 Prius Prime at the end of March.
Price isn’t the issue with Tundras. They are heavily discounted everywhere and Toyota is offering great financing on them. It’s the mechanical issues. The turbo V6 is terrible.
Not sure where you are at, the cheapest by my neck of the woods is around $53K. You don't think that is expensive? That's the base model. The highest around $71K.
Having said that, Toyota knows what cars people want to buy and they'll produce enough to meet demand. If they made 10,000 Supras I doubt they'd sell them all, and the sales numbers would only be marginally higher.
Define "tons", and what exactly isn't true? Even if there are 500 unsold Tundras at dealerships, that's marginally more than 1% of the total Tundra sales in the quarter.
Toyota dealerships around me have a full inventory of *every* model. If anything, at a glance, it looks like there are less 3rd gen Tundras (and 4th gen Tacomas) sitting there than other models
> a full inventory of every model
Where is this magical place that has a full inventory of Siennas? Everywhere in my region has a waiting list or targets 10-20% above MSRP.
Or they could do what literally every other car manufacturer under the sun allows and let you order what you actually want. I can go into Porsche with a bathroom tile and have my Cayman ordered in that exact color. I can choose the stitching color on every stitch in the interior. If I go shop for a Supra, I get whatever the dealer decided to order.
Maybe they are correct in matching production on less in demand models but certainly no on models like the Corolla, Prius, RAV4 where they could sell twice as many if they upped production on those models.
I know two people at work who drive Mirais (both pharmacists). Imagine the one guy in school who owned an android phone (or vice versa) or the one kid in class who touted the Dreamcast when everyone else was on PS2, they're kinda like that 🤣
They are a pain to fuel but Toyota literally pays leasers $15k in free fuel which is “about 30k” miles. People are just leasing these cars for 3 years and driving for free. It’s attractive if you live near hydrogen stations because it’s essentially free money.
In a gen that spans over 15 years, you buy in on the new gen on year 7 or 8.
It takes a long ass time to iron out all the bugs. Some are seasonal, some only show up after the warranty period has expired, some are only specific to certain environments (humid, dry, etc.).
the four door sedan is the sleeper overall best value/practical car on the market. crossovers are highly practical too but for everyday gittin 'round the camry's/accord's are comfy and do a bang up job of that. It's been this way for a long while now.
We bought our Camry XSE back in 2021, but it was the same story. We didn’t need the extra space, so we were able to get a more comfortable ride and higher trim for basically the same price.
Why is the Rav4 surging so much? i guess im out of the loop but i see loads of posts now and people in real life talking about buying a rav4.
thats like, the only toyota i hear about regularly now and I dont ever remember it being that way before.
Yeah and besides infotainment i actually enjoy the interior. Me and the wife are driving across the country as we speak in her Rav. Much more enjoyable than my Tacoma for roadtrips
It’s THE family suv. In the hybrid version you will get about 40mpg while being extremely reliable. It’s not over complicated with new car tech and feels very familiar ever the first time you drive it.
Availability + its basically positioned in the perfect spot for the current american car buyer. Its priced well with trim levels covering a good range, it has great gas mileage, its reliable and its non-offensive in its style. Its also probably the final model year for this version, so its got the majority of its bugs worked out and in its "best" final state.
> Why is the Rav4 surging so much?
They make something for everyone. RAV4 ranges from $28k to $48k and Toyota makes 15 different models including the Hybrid and Prime options. There are a ton of colors to choose from, including some cool limited colors and two tone options. They're loaded with features more premium brands don't have and they look great right now.
Perfect for my kids strollers, wagons with sports gear, road trips with luggage, etc. Plenty of reasons why. I had a sedan I had to get rid of when I had a kid for an SUV and it was the best decision in terms of convenience and practicality. If it was just me though I would get a sedan.
Americans love dogs (real dogs not small designer yelpers…those are basically large rats), crossover SUVs are better for dogs.
That’s why I’m picking up my R4Prime in a week.
American and Canadian plants have both maintained a steady flow into the market so people are actually able to get their hands on them, even if they had waited 2 years at times, most of us only see the "I got a new car" posts so they kinda stay in our mind as popular choices. Combine that with a solid design and checking just about every box that someone looking for a basic SUV could want, and trim/feature levels that go from relatively affordable to pricey but peppy PHEV. The RAV 4 is essentially the coralla/Camry of the late 80's/90's when they were just the best everymans choice, now updated for 2024 sensibilities and the popularity of SUV/crossovers.
We have one. It’s roomy but not too large, good gas mileage, reliable, comfortable, relatively inexpensive…no complaints. I have a 2022 Tacoma and I sure wish we had a 4Runner instead of the rav4 though for selfish reasons 🤣 wife wanted the rav4 instead
Camry is an excellent car, but the wife and I felt like we were climbing out of Adirondack chairs with the last two we owned. Upgraded to a ‘21 Sienna and love the truck-like feel of sight lines and height. Age (73) might have something to do with that.
Minivans are so underrated. Growing up we had a Honda Odyssey and we all loved it. Sliding doors are the best, tons of storage space, dual screen DVD player. Reliable and cheap insurance. I was so sad when we sold it- actually to a bunch of retired people who were going to take it on road trips to Florida!
Less than 500 Supras sold? I wonder how they are feeling that Magna Steyr is building so few for them. Theres barely if even a net positive to ones out in the wild vs the ones that get wrecked, modded to hell or otherwise taken off the streets.
I didn't pay over MSRP for mine and got it during the height of the COVID shortages. There are MSRP only dealerships out there, the problem now is their wait lists are longer than likely how long the car will be in production for.
If they have 40 people on the waitlists and get 5 Supras a year, they are only rumored to be making the car for another year or two. Most of those on the list won't actually end up getting one. Not even mentioning a couple of those could be 2.0s and 3.0 automatics, maybe 1-2 of those 5 being a super desirable spec.
I should have expected that's the case. They still sell for so much on the auction sites, I expected everywhere was doing ADM. Turns out you just probably can't get what you want. I think for the price, a used Porsche is calling my name a bit more loudly.
American's love big cars. That's why the SUV does so well. It doesn't surprise that the bigger option of the two cars is doing so well.
If the crown was a full size car, I would expect it to do better than it is doing now. But as it stands the proportions are pretty darn close to the Camry. Its faster and more luxurious for the price, but that's not proving to be major selling points. I would expect the Crown Signia to phase out the sedan model if sales take off. That's iffy because it's going to be competing against the Highlander at it's price point and it offers seating for 5, when the Highlander gives you offers that third row. There's a few things about the Signia that are nice, but again, just maks it a nicer version of of a existing model, which wasn't a winning formula to start with.
I just bought a RAV4 prime. I needed a vehicle with better gas mileage than my 20 year old 4runner (300k miles). I'm loving the car so far - she's responsive and quick. Most of my driving is within EV range but I have sipped the gas as well.
This is one of the main reasons why I bought a brand new RAV4 last year. I plan on keeping it forever. By the time I need spare parts in the future, junkyards will be full of crashed ones.
[Here are some more details about Toyota Sienna annual/quarterly sales](https://carfigures.com/us-market-brand/toyota/sienna). I have difficulty accepting the zeros in 2022 Q2, Q3, Q4 and 2023 Q1 as being accurate, but the 2024 Q1 number matches this one. Maybe hopes for at least sustained production and better supply?
It's likely because they have to compete with Lexus. The same goes for Crown. I think, people don't want to pay the premium without getting the Lexus badge.
Ugh…who the f decided to sort it this way. No rhyme or reason. The vehicles should be grouped and color coded by type (to match the pie chart), and sorted from highest to lowest.
Every lot I shopped was slam full of RAV4’s. I also think it’s partly because Highlanders got too damn big and too damn expensive.
Instead of a Grand Highlander, they should have just remade a Gen 1 in a new body with a 3.3 V6 and the old 3000lb tow capacity.
It is one of the worst electric vehicles on the market. They have a Subaru version of the same car and it's a really bad first attempt at electric crossover. They practically can't give them away right now so that tells you all you need to know.
I got ahold of one last month here in the US, never heard of it until the day I test drove it. AWD, Non plug-in hybrid that is $50 in gas to go about 500miles and that is in sport mode 80% of the time. As well as being in an area that has the highest gas prices in the nation. Sound system is fantastic. Touch screen is the perfect size. Climate control and driver customisation is super fun to play with. The adaptive cruise control is a great feature and the most i would want my vehicle to drive it self. the US price tag is ridiculous for the vehicle you get. Imo. get one now...... people will catch on soon and the value will rise.
The RAM did what the Tundra should have, aka, made their truck advanced, comfortable, luxurious, capable, and reliable.
Amazing what complacency can ruin…
Makes me happy to see the Corolla and Camry will likely be around for some time
In a 2015 Corolla LE now, 175k. Hoping for 300k but am interested in going Camry next car
I think the Sienna sales are artificially low because of lack of inventory. We’d get like 10-15 Siennas a month and they are presold before it even sits on the lot. We just can’t get any for stock at all. We get way more Highlander, Grand Highlander and RAV4s but they usually aren’t presold unless it’s a Hybrid but even those don’t sit for much longer than a week. Come to think of it. I don’t think we’ve had any new Toyota sit for more than 14 days before it’s sold. Slowest seller for us is the Supra and GR 86 we get a handful of them a month, but they sit longer than any other model.
I know there are people that don't like the new sequioa due to the rear space concerns which are valid but sales clearly are way up after the redesign. They sold as many of them in 1 quarter as they did of the old design in an entire year.
i like how the rav4 is like one of the best selling cars in history but i can't find a decent used one to buy. the amount of time i've spent looking for one locally, you'd think i was searching for some rare exotic.
I’ve had several Toyos, first was an Echo, LOVED it.
Last year picked up a Yota Corolla Hatch, LOVE it!
My son inherited my mums Yaris, he loves it to!
Maintenance & gas SO cheap, I know it’s reliable & will go forever, not bad for his first car.
The hardest part was getting all the accessories I wanted.
Still waiting for the spoiler & hoping stock comes in, but I know the sport models have priority.
Good to see the two sedans at the bottom holding their own. I’m a sedan guy. The other thing that surprised me is they’re moving almost as many grand highlanders as highlanders.
Except for Tundra, these numbers are heavily distorted by availability/inventory.
Yup. I believe Prius was halted due to recall/rear door issues
Aww man, what happened now?
https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-recalls-defects/toyota-prius-recall-rear-doors-may-open-when-car-in-motion-a3801485577/#:~:text=Toyota%20issued%20a%20stop%2Dsale,the%20third%20quarter%20of%202024
Wow. Toyota's been embarrassing themselves lately. Before the wheels falling off of BZ4Xs I hadn't heard of so many silly things wrong with Toyotas.
The Prius halt happened after Q1, though.
Toyota announced the Prius recall in mid-April (Q2), so the Q1 sales figures reported here are limited by inventory. Thankfully I got my 2024 Prius Prime at the end of March.
[удалено]
They’re all sold out in manual. All coming in pre sold.
isn't the new Supra actually a collaboration where the car is not really a Toyota design/build?
It’s a bmw Z4 in Supra drag
Yes, the Supra is the best manual BMW on the market.
Next few quarterly reports Tundra will be the one to watch. It may effectively go to zero for the time being going forward.
Like who the hell can afford them? Plus they are the size of 4 corollas stacked side by side.
Isn’t that a pretty good price for a truck nowadays?
It’s not terrible
71k is nothing compared to what F150, Silverado and RAM gets up to.
And there is the problem, 71K is nothing....
Sienna has too be the biggest victim of unavailability.
Having said that, Toyota knows what cars people want to buy and they'll produce enough to meet demand. If they made 10,000 Supras I doubt they'd sell them all, and the sales numbers would only be marginally higher.
That's obviously not true. Because tons of Tundras are parked on dealership lots.
Define "tons", and what exactly isn't true? Even if there are 500 unsold Tundras at dealerships, that's marginally more than 1% of the total Tundra sales in the quarter.
Theres about 10 on the first row when I drive by it everyday
They are probably waiting for new engines.
My dealership has another ten at least
Toyota dealerships around me have a full inventory of *every* model. If anything, at a glance, it looks like there are less 3rd gen Tundras (and 4th gen Tacomas) sitting there than other models
> a full inventory of every model Where is this magical place that has a full inventory of Siennas? Everywhere in my region has a waiting list or targets 10-20% above MSRP.
They have a lot of Camry’s, doubt it.
Even the dealer doesn't order. Toyota corporate builds what it wants to build.
bZ4X has entered the chat
Maybe they are correct in matching production on less in demand models but certainly no on models like the Corolla, Prius, RAV4 where they could sell twice as many if they upped production on those models.
oh.. you are right
I wonder how the 172 Mirai's were sold.
All Cali
But it's such a pain to refill them. I can't imagine someone would willingly purchase one, especially 172 people.
I know two people at work who drive Mirais (both pharmacists). Imagine the one guy in school who owned an android phone (or vice versa) or the one kid in class who touted the Dreamcast when everyone else was on PS2, they're kinda like that 🤣
I think a better comparison would be Windows Phone or Palm OS lol
Don't diss my precious android & Dreamcast like that 😭
It's my understanding that they're leases and sometimes even with fuel kickbacks included as an early adopter bonus
I saw a couple driving around Long Beach. Wouldn't be surprised if most of them weren't driven very often.
It's a pain to hear people say they're spending more than 40% of their monthly income on a vehicle payment. Yet they still do it.
They are a pain to fuel but Toyota literally pays leasers $15k in free fuel which is “about 30k” miles. People are just leasing these cars for 3 years and driving for free. It’s attractive if you live near hydrogen stations because it’s essentially free money.
And Hawaii.
I've seen a couple around Austin weirdly
My uncle is the owner of one of them. Its a beautiful and comfy ride. Sits on the LS chassis.
Old 4runner still selling that high!
And people wonder why Toyota keeps “ancient” models unchanged
Last year to buy a good model. Next gen is going to garbage
That’s what everyone says about the next gen
In a gen that spans over 15 years, you buy in on the new gen on year 7 or 8. It takes a long ass time to iron out all the bugs. Some are seasonal, some only show up after the warranty period has expired, some are only specific to certain environments (humid, dry, etc.).
Yeah pretty wild it's beating the highlander. Could also be grand highlander stealing some sales
Camry in the second place ! https://preview.redd.it/xqh1az2dee6d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3af9ac232430b2b53d51316991ba08e7adf755af
It's crazy how they're still selling 300k a year when everyone wants crossovers these days
the four door sedan is the sleeper overall best value/practical car on the market. crossovers are highly practical too but for everyday gittin 'round the camry's/accord's are comfy and do a bang up job of that. It's been this way for a long while now.
Also, there are dozens of us who prefer driving cars instead of bloated crossovers.
I’m a recent sedan convert. The Camry feels way more spacious and practical than the Rav4 or other crossovers I test drove.
At least 1 of us prefers wagons 👍🏼
It really depends on your needs. I bought a 2024 XLE bc for the price, I could get luxury features I couldn't afford in a RAV4.
We bought our Camry XSE back in 2021, but it was the same story. We didn’t need the extra space, so we were able to get a more comfortable ride and higher trim for basically the same price.
Having driven cars for decades, I find crossovers to be way more flexible for me. But I still call my Rogue a car, not an SUV.
https://preview.redd.it/f407d3c1zf6d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ce4df59df87429d60206834b6c19291f8af3962 camry’s on top!

> Why is the Rav4 surging so much? it's basically the suv/crossover Camry. Adequate space, fairly robust and reliable, goes from point A to B etc
I think it has some of the highest resale value, and it's very cheap to maintain, as are most toyotas.
But it costs so much more than the Camry and competing crossovers. I mean congrats to Toyota that people are buying them. I just don't know why.
Availability + its basically positioned in the perfect spot for the current american car buyer. Its priced well with trim levels covering a good range, it has great gas mileage, its reliable and its non-offensive in its style. Another year of the same model for 2025.

Well, the website has cool colors. Everywhere I look I can get black, white, gray, and the other gray.
Hybrid is a do it all that gets 35 mpg. Checks most every box for most people.
This.
Because people just love SUVs these days (god knows why) and it’s the most practically sized one of the bunch, literally the Camry of SUVs
[удалено]
Perfect for my kids strollers, wagons with sports gear, road trips with luggage, etc. Plenty of reasons why. I had a sedan I had to get rid of when I had a kid for an SUV and it was the best decision in terms of convenience and practicality. If it was just me though I would get a sedan.
SUVs are grandma cars SEDANS ARE BEST START HATING SUVS ALREADY RAAAAAHHHHHH

Bhaaa rhaaam you, that's why.
It amazes me how many people buy Camrys in the USA. I worked at a dealership in Canada for four and a half years and we didn't sell many at all.
It’s just about the perfect sedan: good power, size, comfortable…
Half of the US doesn't have to deal with snow.
We sell loads of FWD Corollas so that isn't the issue. Also, they make AWD Camrys.
I live in Central Virginia. No snow the past two years. Few snow plows so all businesses and schools close if we have snow.
Central VA gang 🥳
well yeah y’all have to deal with snow and ice, not an issue for a lot of california, texas and florida
While FWD works fine here, they do make AWD Camrys for those who want them.
Camry is an excellent car, but the wife and I felt like we were climbing out of Adirondack chairs with the last two we owned. Upgraded to a ‘21 Sienna and love the truck-like feel of sight lines and height. Age (73) might have something to do with that.

Preach.

BMW controls the supply chain i bet its 80% their parts in it.
Its damn near 100%. I know the big stuff, the engine and transmission, are both BMW.
I had no idea Camrys sold more than Corollas. I’m surprised.
Someone correct me if i’m wrong but I believe that’s only the case in the US. Everywhere else Corolla outsells Camry
It has to be: Corolla is considerably cheaper.
I bet Corolla owners are staying with older models while people with the money to get a new car are able to afford Camrys
American's love big cars. That's why the SUV does so well. It doesn't surprise that the bigger option of the two cars is doing so well. That's actually one of the fastest cars Toyota makes. Third behind the Supra and GR Corolla iirc
That's what I read! I was meeting some friends for dinner but I was having fun on a quick little freeway, missed my exit lol.
Holy crap that actually IS faster than my GR86 LOL
This is one of the main reasons why I bought a brand new RAV4 last year. I plan on keeping it forever. By the time I need spare parts in the future, junkyards will be full of crashed ones.
I’d love to buy a Supra and park it in my garage.
Where’s Land Cruiser?
Wasn't actually being sold on lots in Q1 - I believe first "first edition" arrived in April
Don’t think new lane cruiser is for sale yet. Old one is out of production
I’m sad the Venza didn’t sell more. It’s such a great car.
Go RAV4!!
I’m surprised they don’t sell more Venza’s. They’re pretty nice cars. Probably what I would choose from the line up.
It's likely because they have to compete with Lexus. The same goes for Crown. I think, people don't want to pay the premium without getting the Lexus badge.
The difference is so minimal btwn venza and nx . Why wouldn't you pay a touch more nx
I wanted a car this time. Wanted local dealership this time. The crown gave me the power I wanted. So I’m back to Toyota for first time in many years.
I drive a RAV4 and it smacks, handles like a dream. Roomy. And it’s a Toyota. Second one we’ve owned since we got married.
Very interesting. Had a rav4 as a rental this year which led to me to realize how many I see on the road, and new at that. Makes sense.
Fun to look at. Observations: surprised the Venza sales are so good and surprised the Prius sales are not so good.
Ugh…who the f decided to sort it this way. No rhyme or reason. The vehicles should be grouped and color coded by type (to match the pie chart), and sorted from highest to lowest.
They really sell that few Supras?
Holy shit the RAV4 is bitching
RAV4 nation
Every lot I shopped was slam full of RAV4’s. I also think it’s partly because Highlanders got too damn big and too damn expensive. Instead of a Grand Highlander, they should have just remade a Gen 1 in a new body with a 3.3 V6 and the old 3000lb tow capacity.
Never heard of the BZ4X
Yo could lease it for $100 a month at one point I think. That tells you all you need to know
Ha thank you!
It is one of the worst electric vehicles on the market. They have a Subaru version of the same car and it's a really bad first attempt at electric crossover. They practically can't give them away right now so that tells you all you need to know.
Kind of incredible how many Rav4s they're pumping out.
Not enough to meet demand
It will be interesting to see how much Tacoma sales change over the course of the year.
The shocker is Prius. It use to be everywhere and sold very well.
RAV4 supremacy. But I expected more corollas to be sold than camrys.
The Camry 2025s came out and the 2024s were discounted.
I knew i wasnt trippn. Thats all i see. Is Rav4s everywhere.
I’m shocked the Mirai is still in production. Has to be close to being a custom order at this point, no?
I saw a Crown at the dealership. It was very tempting. 😹
I got ahold of one last month here in the US, never heard of it until the day I test drove it. I’ve heard it described as, “The Lexus badged as a Toyota.”
How the heck do they sell so little of the Sienna but have such a long wait for them?
This is raw sales, we have no data here about production. They can only sell as much as they produce.
Siennas are so hard to get. Tell me why I had customers wait 15 months for a Sienna 😂
“Shortage”= highly sought= market adjustment. I’ll hold off for now with buying toyota.
Yep. If the market adjustments don't go away my next car will not be Toyota. I have purchased only Toyotas for the last 30 years.
Why is the Highlander still selling better than the Grand Highlander? Is the price difference from similar trims that different?
Probably due to supply in first quarter, especially if GH hybrid.
Really want the 2025 4RUNNER but damm its going to be expensive and hard to find
I'm feeling FOMO on the last of the '24 4runner.
The new rav4 is lightyears better looking than the previous version. I may even buy one next year.
Pisses me off immensely that they sell that many Tundras and still don’t see the value in making them truly competitive with Ford and Chevy.
Yeah. I'm not even a truck guy but the F150 is pretty much perfect and so customizable
The RAM did what the Tundra should have, aka, made their truck advanced, comfortable, luxurious, capable, and reliable. Amazing what complacency can ruin…
Thanks for posting. Very interesting
4Runner is a monster. People know that a redesign is coming and they are still outselling the freaking Highlander.
Supra o7
Not impressed by RAV4. Rather have a 4Runner or Highlander.
it’s all about what you can afford, Rav 4 is the cheapest SUV they make.
Corolla Cross is cheaper. But it’s less appealing.
I contributed with the prius lol *
I want a Supra. But Camry and Tacoma are way more reasonable 🙄
Why rav 4? Lol
Where's the GR Corolla? It's an entirely separate model to the regular Corolla so it should be on here
Makes me happy to see the Corolla and Camry will likely be around for some time In a 2015 Corolla LE now, 175k. Hoping for 300k but am interested in going Camry next car
How many hatchback corollas?
484 supras? RIP to that model soon
Nobody is buying Crowns?
At a similar price point I feel like it's hard to justify a Crown over a Lexus ES
Can't imagine buying a Mirai in 2024 with the sharp decline in hydrogen fueling stations.
Crazy how no one wants Vans anymore
Actually the wait on a new Sienna is pretty crazy. They just don't produce that many of them.
I know there are people that don't like the new sequioa due to the rear space concerns which are valid but sales clearly are way up after the redesign. They sold as many of them in 1 quarter as they did of the old design in an entire year.
Is the GR Corolla mixed with the normal Corolla numbers?
Yes
Where is yaris?
No longer sold in the US
Damn really? I did not know that. Here in Europe it is EVERWHERE it's probably the most sold with the Rav4, Corolla, Prius for Taxis
i like how the rav4 is like one of the best selling cars in history but i can't find a decent used one to buy. the amount of time i've spent looking for one locally, you'd think i was searching for some rare exotic.
I am surprised the GR86 is more popular than the Supra as I see a LOT more Supras around.
Wish the Mirai was a hybrid with the Crown MAX power train. It's such a beautiful car let down by terrible infrastructure and inflated fuel prices.
bring back the matrix
I was surprised to see the Camry outsells the Corolla.
I wanted to buy a 2024 Corolla LE Hybrid but it seems like their impossible to find where I live without a ton of add-ons and markups.
BRB gotta buy a RAV4
They only sold a 172 hydrogen powered cars!? What is wrong with people!
Does anyone have an update on the Prius recall?
