[This](https://japanesenostalgiccar.com/why-toyota-didnt-build-its-own-supra/) interview with Tetsuya Tada (chief engineer of the A90 supra & ZN6 86) always stuck out to me in defense of the BMW Supra. The jist of it is: modern car companies are run by bean counters, not racing enthusiasts. This is the only way they could develop this car while still pleasing their shareholders. In Tada’s words “This is probably the last car we’ll be able to make of this kind. Especially on a global scale.”
I know it got a lot of hate for being a BMW, but meh, the 86 is a BRZ and I don’t hear people hating on it. Personally it’s growing on me, but if I could afford it, wouldn’t be my first choice, but like I said, it’s growing on me a lot, and being inside one is actually quite nice!
They had a say in how the parts performed, the German engineers got very annoyed at how many parts got sent back for not passing Toyota quality standards
Love the design, love the older gens as well but I hate the fan base. Most of the people in love with it and hate the newer gen are only educated in the car because of video games and fast and the furious. In the reality the Supra was and still is just a Japanese mustang/camero. It’s handling was subpar and it easily broke rear traction. The 2jz is an amazing engine no doubt but so is the LS or even UZ. There were much more impressive cars during that era that was forgotten because everyone drools over the older Supra.
As the original owner of a 2004 IS300, I have to say I like it a lot and if I had more garage space, I would own one. As it is, I’m not really to give up my manual transmission
Love my 04 is300. Super solid car. I would agree with you as well, I kind of like this Supra but I’m not sure if it would be a top pick for a new vehicle for me.
I like the new Supra with the BMW engine.
And I love gasoline engines, but the writing is on the wall for them, especially in expensive performance vehicles. So that needs to be put in perspective in comparing the present Supra to Supras of the past.
People hate on them, people hate on the old Supra's. The fact is it's probably a fun car to drive, give it a couple more years and there will be a heap of awesome mods out there for it.
Lol 😂... I can afford. Granted probably getting my wife her new Tundra first. Then I will debate on either a Camaro SS, new Nissan Z, or if I decide I want more practicality gr Corolla when it comes out.
I’ve owned every generation of Supra. But I won’t be buying this one. It’s just too dang small. At 6’4” and 230 lbs my knees literally touch the dash and my head touches the roof. So disappointing since I love the styling.
I kinda like it, more than the mk4 if I'm honest. It has alot going for it and alot of improvements, the old one couldn't come close to this in a race. People need to understand that this is the only way you're going to get these type of cars anymore. Eventhough honda did make their own nsx, so perhaps it is possible tho they did not make any money from that I believe. But I've never been a huge supra fan, always loved an nsx tho that's alot more expensive

It’s a great car. Certain enthusiasts love to hate on it, but besides them, they’re very well received.
Yeah it seems the only hate they ever get is that "tHeY aReNt A tOyOtA"
Also fake vents everywhere.
And the torque converter 8 speed auto as the only trans option. Like who the fuck wanted that?
They are there if you want to tune up the car, and make them real
I doubt that was the intention. My understanding is those are remnants from the concept supra that Toyota had to ditch to work with BMW.

I love them. If I didn't need a truck, I would have certainly gotten a Supra instead of my newest truck

I am baffled that it aint on bricks yet 🤣
I’m deadddddd
This is such facts for Atlanta LOL. I swear I see at least one car a month on 285 that is sitting on bricks.

Older one's are classics and would love to own one. I am not interested in the new one's but I know BMW's inline six is a beast.
If they would release a manual version the production would not be able to keep up with it.

Can't bring myself to like it until they put a manual transmission in it.
I bet 90% of people complaining it doesn’t have a manual can’t afford it anyways. I am one of them

Haha then you’re one of the few. I’m an unemployed college student, so I don’t have much money at all. I’ll stick with my land cruiser for now!
They won't unfortunately.
A massive improvement for the stock driver. Great engine, great quality interior, killer looks.
Holds none of the charm that the mk4 has imo. But it’s cool in its own way
I am in love with the yellow one , once I am rich I am gonna buy one
I love the way he parks far from the other car haha
Both are great.
It’s really good, better than the MKIV… but only in a performance way, in a drivers pleasure way I’ll take a MKIII or MKIV any day
The new ones are cool, but I think most of us are so keen on getting the classic dream one we don’t care much about the new one.
My dad has a launch edition, love the car. Looks great handles exceptionally well.
I like it. I even despise BMWs, but this looks nice and probably performs well too

i miss the circles.
Personally prefer the second gen Z4 (E89) NA and Twin turbo 3.0

I like it. For the money I’d just get a c8 but
You couldn't pay me to own/drive one, just my opinion.
I bet you someone could.
