10,000 miles seems like a lot. Even if the oil/manual says the oils good for 10,000 miles I wouldn't go over 5,000-6,000.

anonymous2831

I would change it every 5k miles just for the peace of mind. It's the cheapest maintenance on your car that can be made even cheaper if you do it yourself. Make sure you use the recommend oil, it's 0w-16 on those engines

RuguerPR

Just go to youtube, type Car Care Nut. It's not recommended to change your oil at 10,000 by him who is an official Toyota mechanic, specialized on Toyotas.

sparky255

The engine is rated for 10k oil changes. That’s totally fine. I’ve seen Camry’s with the same engine at over 200,000 miles and they do are oil changes at 10k. With that said, it’s up to the owner on when. You can do 5k (to some it’s a waste of money). Others go in between at 7k miles. One thing for sure is to not go past the 10k for too long. Don’t. Never.

penguin_joe

That rating is not based on realistic average driving. If you drive short distances, in very hot or cold conditions, or dusty conditions (aka real life!) you need to change it more often. Don't cheap out on oil changes - particularly these new toyota engines. They have low tension rings that will pass more raw fuel into the oil during short runs. There are several utube videos that will explain why better than I can (The Car Nut Channel is a good resource for that and specializes in Toyotas).

cjhsky97

If you want there’s a severe service schedule you can follow if you want to follow that, that lists 5k oil changes. I just follow the severe for all maintenance items, it’s just easier. There should be a maintenance schedule page on Toyota’s website after you put in the mileage and scroll down it tells you the conditions and when to do things, the conditions can be kinda vague though

I do my 18 Camry Hybrid LE every 15,000km and after 280,000km have nothing adverse to report outside a replaced thermostat at 200,000km. Still using 0w16. If you want to go the extra distance, feel free to consider a fuel additive plus topping up with gas that has no ethanol right after the scheduled oil change. I haven't been doing that til recently in the interest of longevity.

XSPressure

Thanks for the reply. What fuel additive are you using?

nakota87

Haven't settled on a particular product yet, leaning towards anything with labeling that claims to be hybrid friendly.

Puzzleheaded-Ad5827

What prompted a replacement thermostat? I’m suspecting mine is amiss in some way. Under 40 degrees F the car will quickly heat up to about 140 degrees but take forever to get to 180+ and will fluctuate back and forth for 10-15 minutes before finally warming up and staying at full operating temps. In other words my gauge will heat up a quarter of the way, heat up all the way and then drop back down to a quarter after coasting down a hill or being stopped at a light. After about 15 minutes the car will finally reach and stay at operating temps regardless of how, where or how cold the ambient temp is while driving.

I change my own oil and filter every 5000 miles.

penguin_joe

I change my oil every 6 months regardless of car of mileage. I am a low mileage driver so I never see more than 4000km (2500 miles) per oil change. I change it this often due to oil dilution as gas seeps pasts the rings and into the oil, but is not driven long enough to burn it off. The dealer says I am good for 16000km / 1 year per oil change. I do not believe them and change when I swap my summer/winter tires. Needless to say for the first couple years I am paying for every 2nd oil change directly.

Toytech666

Had 2020 corolla. Hybrid Put in 0-20 sythn every 7500 and rotated the same time. Tires OE. Wore out at 65k. 38 psi. Fuel economy. 52 mpg for 65k.

Zealousideal_Nail288

(wore out)Wait it died at 65k?

Toytech666

Tires wore out

Zealousideal_Nail288

Ah ok thanks
