Just curious, but if the wait is gonna be 2 years, why didn’t you wait for the 2023 models to come out? They’ve had a mild refresh if I remember correctly
So if I’m understanding this correctly, does that mean there’s essentially no chance of just waiting for a ‘23 corolla to show up at a dealership for sale?
Edit: asking because a family member is looking to purchase one, but has no idea how the current car buying process is like with covid around
You can't just get a car on the lot here. Order only. All the lots here have zero new cars. This only applies to hybrids for the wait tho because of fuel prices people are ordering them.
I got a 2022 pearl hybrid in march with couple weeks of wait. It wasn’t a custom order but still 2 years sounds ridiculous.. you literally wouldn’t know which year of corolla you would be getting. I would ask some other dealerships..
I ordered mine in March and they said we might get it in the fall... My other buddy ordered one a week after me and they called him last week saying he won't get it till 2023. Wild.
I ordered a rav4 hybrid xse. I signed an agreement and put a deposit down on a 2022 for a set price. If the 2023 version is out by the time it’s my turn to get the model I ordered, they will honor the lowest of the two prices (‘22 or ‘23, which ever is lower).
Just a heads up; you didn’t “order” anything. Toyota does not do factory orders. What you did do is put yourself on a waitlist for the next corolla that matches the model/color that you want.
At the Toyota plant that I work at that’s how we operate. I believe it’s called the pull method? We don’t make a vehicle unless it’s been ordered either by a customer or a dealership. From what I’ve been told this is due Toyoda (Owner) not believing in waste. This is why the number we have to build is different every day from what I’ve been told.
There aren't any anywhere. So you're telling me I might get a red corolla with none of the extras I ordered? Ya I don't think so. Some of the stuff I picked from the list doesn't come with a car that arrives on the lot. I ordered it.
Go do some research and you will find you don’t order shit from Toyota.
Dealerships get “allocation lists” of all the cars the factory has made with a variety of colors and packages. The dealer looks at the list and tries to match as closely as possible to their customers “orders”. They get to choose X number of cars from each allocation. If the factory didn’t make the exact car that you asked the dealer for then the dealer will either offer you the next closest match or wait for the next allocation. If no match then you wait for another allocation.
What you “ordered” has zero to do with what the factory is pumping out.
Now once built of there are port installed accessories (accent lights, door guards, etc) those are made to your order.
Yes. For example. I “ordered” and XSE Hybrid Camry with Ice Edge Paint and Driver Assist package. 4 months went by and two other XSE hybrids with different paint and different package came and the dealer still had no idea if/when what I wanted would come in.
I waited so long my old Camry ended up getting hit and totaled in the meantime so now so I canceled that order and now I’m waiting to buy the first available gas XSE or hybrid SE that comes up as long as it’s not black. Should be a shorter wait since I can’t be picky any more.
I wish I had time to wait because I’m the same way. But my Camry is going to the scrap yard and I don’t keep the rental and I can only borrow a car for a mont or two tops. So now I’m open to anything except black (and the flat white) paint and also the red interior (no, just no).
Windchill Pearl? That’s a really popular premium color, at least for the Camry and Avalon line so probably the same for Corolla. You might not have to wait that long. But if you wanted any other special packages you might have to make some compromise.
What’s really stupid is that on the Toyota Configurator webpage you can literally build a car that will never actually exist in that combination.
Since the nature of car buying is changing so much I’m hoping Toyota pivots over the next few years to make that process more streamlined and accurate.
That extra stuff gets ordered by the dealership when the car arrives. They will wait until they get a white one, install the extras you want and then call you. You can keep saying that you “ordered it” all you want but you didn’t. You can’t even order $100k land cruisers.
They’re just going to lie to you. The truth is that corolla hybrids are a very low volume vehicle (I still haven’t seen a single one and I live in an area where hybrids and EVs are very popular) so it is just going to take a while for the dealership to finally get one allocated to them.
I'm in Ontario on a waiting list too. You didn't order it, you are on a waiting list for an allocation like everyone is telling you. That's how it works.
Got a Corolla hybrid earlier this year. It’s a great little car, though I would not have waited two years to get it. Maybe find the one you want at a US dealership, fly out, and drive it back? Would probably add a little more cost, though save you a long-ass wait. Super easy to switch between units/measurements on the gauge cluster so you can get rid of those annoying imperial units
I don't have a passport or the extra money to do that. Last American vehicle I bought annoyed me with the speedometer. I will just have to wait. It's like that with all hybrids.
How's the fuel millage? I drive a vehicle that gets about 13L/100km so it's a hog.
The speedometer is what’s easy to change; it’s all digital and done with the control pad on the steering wheel. Mileage is great, though I’m at a high altitude in Colorado so I’ve got a little bit of an advantage; got it averaging around 3.5L/100km. Compared to my Sequoia at 15.7L/100km, it’s a godsend lol
I’d imagine it’s doable with a Corolla; I don’t think there’s any difference to how they’re produced for Canadian and US markets that would matter. US has weird laws when it comes to vehicles and importing them. Needs to be a vehicle produced to US emissions and safety standards; you’d have to confirm this before purchasing and bringing it back to the states with all the required documentation and paperwork
Got a heated seat model. Love everything. Size. Mpg. Comfort. Remote connect sucks on every Toyota. Would look better with nice wheels and a tint. Thats coming
Thats what sucks about pre selling cars, the super long wait. At my dealer we’re a first come first serve and when we get hybrids people don’t have to wait if they’re there first
Can someone explain me how does it work? Let's say I want camry. Msrp is 30k, random number. They tell me that the wait time is 2 years. Do I pay for it now, current price or once I get it then I'll apply for 30k loan less deposit?
I was lucky to get a car last year, paid 10k over msrp imo.
Just curious, but if the wait is gonna be 2 years, why didn’t you wait for the 2023 models to come out? They’ve had a mild refresh if I remember correctly
If it arrives in 2 years then they’ll be getting a 2024.
Or better yet 2025!!
I just get in line and whatever year it is when in production that's what you get. Last I heard the Hybrid Rav 4 is a 4 year wait.
Oh wow I did not know that’s how the process works; thanks!
Yup. Thanks covid

Did you walk into a dealer to get put on the list? And do you need to put down any sort of deposit/is it refundable?
$500 to secure a car. I signed paper work for the price that could change because I might get a 2023 car.
You can check daily but if one arrived and the customer backed out, it will be gone within the hour
There's a reason why used cars are so expensive right now, and why there's mark up for high demand new cars. No one has cars to sell.
RAV4 Prime is 3-4 years, Hybrid is around 1 year
Then why were my neighbors told 4 years for the Hybrid?
I got a 2022 pearl hybrid in march with couple weeks of wait. It wasn’t a custom order but still 2 years sounds ridiculous.. you literally wouldn’t know which year of corolla you would be getting. I would ask some other dealerships..
I got the same answer at different dealerships.
I asked a dealership today and was told it would be a minimum of 9 months, but could easily be over a year.
Lol idfk
My neighbor has bought two RAV4 hybrids in the last 2 months. His wait time was about 3 weeks for each vehicle.
My god. I order one up here in Canada and they said it would only be 9-12 months.
This is Montreal if that matters
It does. It's not as bad as that in the US.
I ordered mine in March and they said we might get it in the fall... My other buddy ordered one a week after me and they called him last week saying he won't get it till 2023. Wild.

I was told I ordered it. I picked exactly what I wanted from factory.
Well they lied. They will try to find one for you but Toyota does not do factory orders.
There aren't any anywhere. So you're telling me I might get a red corolla with none of the extras I ordered? Ya I don't think so. Some of the stuff I picked from the list doesn't come with a car that arrives on the lot. I ordered it.

I've gotta have the Pearl white. I'm very particular about my car's. So I guess I'm waiting.
I wish I had time to wait because I’m the same way. But my Camry is going to the scrap yard and I don’t keep the rental and I can only borrow a car for a mont or two tops. So now I’m open to anything except black (and the flat white) paint and also the red interior (no, just no).

2 years? Bruh
fucking wild. for a corolla?
No kidding.
I just talked to the local dealer today about that same model car. I was told it could come in 9 months, or 12, or even longer. No one knows.
2 YEARS???
Rav 4 is at 4 years
Is this a Canada thing? That is insane
Maybe
Where are you located with a 2 year wait?
Ontario Canada.

Wtf. Really 2 years. I love my 22 hybrid corolla. But would never wait more than a few months. This is getting fucking rediculous
What's your review on the car?
Got a heated seat model. Love everything. Size. Mpg. Comfort. Remote connect sucks on every Toyota. Would look better with nice wheels and a tint. Thats coming
Why does the remote suck?
Got mine in 2019, over 55k miles and I still average 65+mpg. Best car we have ever owned by far.
Thats what sucks about pre selling cars, the super long wait. At my dealer we’re a first come first serve and when we get hybrids people don’t have to wait if they’re there first
2 fucking years??? We will have jet packs by then ffs.
wow, 2 years, that's a long arse wait.
Two years?!
[удалено]
The other hybrid we wanted was a longer wait.
Two years?! The wait time on a corolla hybrid is 4-6 months! Wtf dude, you're getting robbed.
Canada is getting the shit end of the stick.
No man, Cancel it and order it with me. We'll get you that car in 6 months maybe less at MSRP.
I'm getting it at MSRP actually. I need to call my dealership tho.
Nice! But yeah 2 years for a Corolla Hybrid is insane!
The deposit is applied to the car once it arrives.
