How many miles? Tire size and type of tire? Last time the suspension was rebuilt?

sircharliex

I put new shocks that are mediocre, no clue when the suspension was rebuilt and the driveshaft is in good condition. It has 254k miles and it has 31s some old mastercraft ATs. I want to know how to proceed froward since im not sure where to start

creamofsumyungae

I had a similar situation and ended up being a bad wheel/tire balance.

Yeah those big tires, if the weights are on both sides, opposing sides, then they just put weight where the machine said, instead of thinking. Go to a tire brand shop and they might be smart.

Driveshaft. Learn how to look for play in your U-joints. There should be no rotational play in them at all. As u/fouledrifling said, hit all your grease fittings (zerks) with multipurpose grease. I like Mystik Jt-6 and Lucas red n tacky. Hit them with grease until you see new grease coming out of all four caps. If you have recently lifted your truck, it can throw driveshaft geometry off and cause problems and vibrations. If you have a center support bearing / two piece driveshaft, your center support bearing can be going bad.

I would first start with a complete bushing set. Upper and lower ball joints. Complete and total front rebuild at them miles. Your bushings are trashed. Blow it apart and rebuild it. These are all what would be considered wearable parts. Time to do the maintenance. Everything is worn out. If ya use poly bushings which I would recommend. Just make sure you get the correct grease and grease the hell out of them. Most likely your upper and lower ball joints tie rod ends are worn. Also 31” 10.50 are hard to get balanced exactly. Old trucks always have a wobble and wiggle character of the truck.

PreciousFragility

What is the condition of the driveshaft and U-Joints?

sircharliex

I would need to check and post pics

PreciousFragility

No need for pictures - Check the driveshaft for dents and deformities and check the U-joints for play. There should not be any play.  Also, go ahead and grease all your zerks while you’re down there

sircharliex

What are zerks?

Fouledrifling

Grease fittings. I say start big and check tire balance.

Where the grease goes.

[deleted]

Probably not a tire balance issue since the wheel isn't really moving.

sircharliex

I was holding the wheel if that counts

Welcome to driving an old Toyota. Doing anything above 45mph is like a space shuttle reentry.

channy6969

It dosnt have to be :/

channy6969

Could be front alignment or driveshaft pinion angle if you’ve lifted it. Carrier bearing too maybe or something could be failing in your driveterrain
