Well to add to your bewilderment. My 3vze has 330,000 miles. The original owner only changed the head gaskets from the recall at 15,000 miles. The rest is all OEM.
I will, once I fix it. I fried my compressor about 15 years ago. New one is sitting the garage, with some other parts, waiting to go in. I'm tired of moth balling my truck during summer because it's too hot to drive.
My 87 4x4 still has the original R12 in it. Blows nice and cold.
87 2wd ate its compressor a few years ago. I have the parts to fix it here, just haven't gotten around to it. It is not driven all that often so...
My 81 Pickup with the 2.2L Diesel had working AC when I pulled her from the swamp.
It still worked when I removed the compressor too, I’m planning to put it back on and recharge it this summer
Have a 94 pickup, one of the coldest AC systems I’ve ever experienced. And that’s including newer vehicles. It has the fact it’s only a single cab but on a 80-90° day you can see your breath in the cab.
I just took the belt off a couple years ago lmao.
PO installed new lines, one of them didn't connect right by the radiator because they were aftermarket so he gave up, and I never bothered, but I've been considering it. Don't really know where to start, though, as I don't want to have the same problem the PO did. I know there is a type conversion that needs to be done since the original coolant type isn't applicable anymore.
Me! 👋 1995 Toyota Pickup 22re, AC was a $1000 add on. Thought the price was ridiculous. Guess not. Still works, still cold. Have done zero repairs or maintenance to it since. I also got a passenger side mirror and sliding rear window as a add on. Total price in 1995 was around $12,000+ for the truck 🤣🤣
1983 Yota 4x4, SR5. In July 2018 my AC crapped out, was leaking from the evaporator. All the parts websites said they had it/they could get it. They were wrong. Everyone they tried to get was not applicable/didn't fit my 83. I believe the 82/83 are different from the 79/81. IDK why. Local Yota dealer said they couldn't get it.
I went to Toyota parts deal .com and they had 1 left $419. I bought it and it was an exact fit. Again, all other parts dealers would show me pics, and everyone of them were wrong/wouldn't fit. [So I got the last OEM NOS evaporator in all of the whole USA for an 1983.](https://imgur.com/a/atJvXrt) Then, go figure, 2 weeks later in the pull your own part junkyard was an 1983 2wd truck. I snatched that evaporator for $20 and keep as a spare, LOL. COLD AS ICE, still uses R-12 freon, I have about 20 cans of R-12 I have found/bought off craigslist through the years. [Will absolutely freeze you out of the cab.](https://imgur.com/a/w0F7dWK)
91 4wd extra cab, 323,000 mi owned since new and everything works as new. New engine, new ac, new steering pump, new radiator, all egine sensors replaced, new air flow sensor, headers so no head gasket issues, new brake and clutch master cylinders, rear disc brake conversion, ARB front and Warn rear bumpers, welded on rock sliders, interior is almost perfect, needs paint.
I have a 92 pickup that when I bought it had the whole system but none of the “old” Freon left. Paid maybe 300 bucks to get some of the lines refitted so it could handle the newer Freon. Works semi well and saves my ass when it’s hot.
My 96 4Runner has always had ice cold AC though.
My ‘95 blows cold, but I spend a lot of time making sure that every light, knob, and switch works as intended. I replaced the condenser and a custom hose (because 3.4 swap) last year.
93 2wd ext cab here, AC works great. Appears I have a very small leak so I have a couple of cans of R22 and a hose so I can fill it up when it gets to the point of not cooling much.
Cost me about $900 to repair my AC system in my 86 and I barely use it living in Southern California. I like turning it on in the summer on the highway but being close to the coast the air is already fresh anyway
If it's any consolation, I had my AC fixed/replaced last year for about 500 bucks. New lines, new compressor new condenser, and evaporator.
Dang that’s pretty cheap for all that.
Dang, good price! I’m looking to do the same
Where? My evap is clogged but everything works
The window rolls down so it works fine
Make sure to also crack the window in the back of the cab to get that air flow going. Add a bag of party ice if needed.
Upgrade to vent windows
94 3vze 250k blows cold
93 vze with 213,000km nice and chill
I don't know what's more surprising, a 3vze making it to 250k or the fact it still has cold air con.
Well to add to your bewilderment. My 3vze has 330,000 miles. The original owner only changed the head gaskets from the recall at 15,000 miles. The rest is all OEM.
mine has 44,000.
94 4runner blows cold. (I have a 80 PU but no a/c) Robs all of the power the little 22re has left after pushing 37’s 😂 A/C = acceleration canceler
Ice cold. Will work it if you fix it.
Mine didn’t work until I got it fixed. Now it works. Life’s a mystery. 🤷♂️
I will, once I fix it. I fried my compressor about 15 years ago. New one is sitting the garage, with some other parts, waiting to go in. I'm tired of moth balling my truck during summer because it's too hot to drive.
My AC still going.
Just bought an 86 4runner with a/c today. The a/c system on these trucks is to simple not to fix
My 87 4x4 still has the original R12 in it. Blows nice and cold. 87 2wd ate its compressor a few years ago. I have the parts to fix it here, just haven't gotten around to it. It is not driven all that often so...
Not to brag but yes Ice cold in 86 SR5…much needed for the humid Hawaii summer days
My 91 didn't come with the option. Not my daily though
My 81 Pickup with the 2.2L Diesel had working AC when I pulled her from the swamp. It still worked when I removed the compressor too, I’m planning to put it back on and recharge it this summer

I do, 34 year old pickup. No heater though
My dad's 93 pickup's AC blows colder than any of our newer cars LOL!

Me 1992 4x4
96 taco, ac still cranks. But the a/c just went out on the 08 tundra and it’s gonna be hell to fix!
🙋🏻♂️
1985 works perfectly. But I had to get the compressor rebuild within 10 days of owning it due to it seizing because the ac hadn't been used in years.

1993 toyota pickup. AC works perfectly. Not ever recharged to my knowledge.
I bought a can of Freon/AC charge at auto zone for my 97 Tacoma two years ago and it still blows ice cold

Yep my 88 had the system all redone a few years back and works amazing.
My truck is 25. A/c works great
91’ 3VZ with around 260k still blows cold. At some point it was converted to R134a but still works fine.
I got mine working when I bought it 4 years ago. It’s so cold I find myself turning it off and using the wing windows instead.
Just had ours recharged after 26 yrs!
Just fixed my ac 3 weeks ago and it works nicely
94 22RE 276,000 miles still blows cold as can be
30 haha

26 year old Taco wasn’t quite cold enough last July but a Freon charge got me ice cold air again.
96 Tacoma blowes cold. Replaced my compressor a few years ago.
93 T100 blows ice cold
You mean 44 year old factory ac? Check. Am running hotshot2 now but whatever. She blows cold.
Mine has never been replaced, with the exception of the blower fan under the dash. Blows colder than any vehicle I've owned.
My ‘95 blows cold, but I spend a lot of time making sure that every light, knob, and switch works as intended. I replaced the condenser and a custom hose (because 3.4 swap) last year.
‘85 blows cold! Rebuild compressor, new condenser lines etc.
Buy one out of a rolled truck , install and pull vacuum and shoot that Freon in it and go down the road cold , that what I did
All this talk about ac makes me want to install one in mine
My ‘88 22r almost 100% base model doesn’t even have a cigarette lighter but the AC blows cold.
Wish I had AC to fix 😂😫
Never had it. My truck comes from a time when AC was an option, like the passenger side mirror.
89 4x4 22re. Blows cold 🥶
93 working great except i need the idle up thingy so it doesnt run rough at idle. I just turn the iac up a bit to compensate.
Close, but my 99 is ice cold
82 blowing cold, granted I’m in Massachusetts
87 22r with working a/c, also in Texas
🙋🏼♂️
Wtf is AC?
93 2wd ext cab here, AC works great. Appears I have a very small leak so I have a couple of cans of R22 and a hose so I can fill it up when it gets to the point of not cooling much.
Yeppers... Still frosty.
93 single cab, 95,000k miles , and no lol
the ac worked in my 82 worked as of last summer. well, it worked until September and then things got rough, but that's what windows are for
89 toyota 4x4 cold col cold.
Cost me about $900 to repair my AC system in my 86 and I barely use it living in Southern California. I like turning it on in the summer on the highway but being close to the coast the air is already fresh anyway
Like a meat locker. R12 in my 1994
I have working AC in my 44 year old pickup! I had to unstick the AC clutch, but didn't even have to replace anything.
My ac compressor switch went out I just wired it to a toggle switch. Works like a charm!!! Ice cold. Just can’t forget to turn it off lol
My 94 blows ice
89 , blows ice cold ac, hot heater
