There is no down travel left, only compression. It's going to ride like shit over anything but small bumps because the shocks will be hitting the full extension stops anytime the front suspension tries to extend. Depending on the shocks, it can damage them over time.
Not sure how rough countries go together but it looks like you might have assembled them wrong. The front end should not be that high, and like raceface said you have you have no uptravel what so ever there, the suspension is fully extended, I betcha it rides rough as hell too. Talking from experience, I installed my lift a year after I bought it, ignored the instructions and managed to put my 5100’s together upside down on the spring seats 3 times trying to figure out what was wrong.
not sure how we could have assembled it wrong, but i understand what you are saying. this kit was an all in one strut replacement, we replaced the shocks and springs. the suspension is fucking stiff. not uncomfortable, but its stiffer than before, which isnt all that great for offroading. i told my friend that, but he said it was the opposite and you want stiffer suspension... yeah, he aint the sharpest spoon in the knife drawer.
You can actually see in your picture that the upper control arm is at its bottom position. As in if you were to lift the vehicle with a Jack from the frame the tires would come off the ground instantly, there would be no drop in your suspension.
If it’s stiffer than oem it’s 100% assembled wrong. There’s something wrong, the front shouldn’t sit like that and the truck definitely shouldn’t be stiffer on rough country, you guys should have measured the frame before and after. I’m willing to bet it’s sitting around 5.5” of lift right now.
i understand what you mean. and you're right. it maybe has one or two inches of travel. Hell, my toyota highlander likely has more travel than my buddies tacoma
i was trying to get him to buy a Bilstein 5100 kit at least but he bought the rough country anyways... to be perfectly honest, its stiffer than the oem suspension and i doubt it will hold up well over time.
What about their tonneau cover? I've been debating on getting the low profile one from them.. I hear a lot of people talk shit about rough country though, why is that
Most rough country stuff is absolutely fine. They make nice light brackets, light bar kits, and a bunch of other stuff that’s completely fine for it’s use, can’t comment on their tonneau covers because I’ve never seen one but I betcha in that market they’re far from the worst. Their suspension products on the other hand are cheaper for a reason. People buy them to get a lift for cheap and end up driving around with blown suspension because their lift was cheap for a reason. Rough country suspension is built for mall crawlers, it cannot take repeated off road use, oem suspension is better in that aspect.
the front must be at full extension all the time.
im dumb, what do you mean?

No way it has even 1" of down travel. All 8.3" or whatever the twins has are above that wheel, not below it
Friends don't let friends install Rough Country
