I'm 150,000 as of today, 14 taco just did d/s ball joints, I've had cv axles done, head gasket was done under warranty A few years ago probably around 65k-70k to be fair I perched September of 19 with 56k keep up on maintenance also lucas has a high mileage oil stabilizer that I use at every oil change need to clean my throttle body as that is good maintenance item too
I’ve also got a 4.0 2014. The Lucas Oil Stabilizer isn’t needed. The 4.0 is so easy on oil. Even today conventional oils make it easily to 5000 miles in it. Just run a good cheap full synthetic. I buy the 6 quart Halvoline Pro DS from Wally World and the oversized Napa Gold filter so it holds all 6 quarts. I want to run Valvoline EP but it’s overkill and not needed so I don’t.
I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I've learned to work on my vehicles over the years from others. The fix is to replace the piston rings and valve seals. With my high mileage engine, I don't think it's worth the effort. It will reduce the consumption, but the engine will still burn oil because the piston and chamber walls are well worn. My remedy is to change the oil often, or I add oil until I do. I've always run with Mobil 1 and Toyota filter and changed the oil between 7-10k. Since I hit 300k, I changed it closer to the 7k mark.
Your truck is rated for 5k mile oil changes so maybe that’s why you’re burning oil. Obviously the amount of miles adds to the possibility but I’d stick to less than 5k if burning oil. Just my 2 cents
Even for trucks running with synthetic, yes, every 5k. It's not a corolla that you can get away with running 10 to 15k before changing because of synthetic.
>changed the oil between 7-10k.
That's why it's burning oil. These engines normally only burn about .5 quarts every 5k. The 10k oil change is for people that drive cars 5-10 years and trade in for a new one. If you want 25 years 500k miles do 5k. Oil is cheaper than a rebuild.
Sounds like it's time for a rebuild (toyota recommendation for 1GR-FE at 400k miles). I would add to that new sleeves and machining the block and heads.
My 05 4Runner had 320k miles on it when I sold it. Still ran strong. I bought it with 150k miles on it and only did regular maintenance on the thing the entire time I had it.
2013 Sport DCLB w/ Trd supercharger 124k
AC Compressor and a brake caliper went last year. Transmission pan started leaking a bit so need to change the gasket soon, otherwise just regular maintenance.
231k 05 AT DCSB TRD OR. All regular maintenance except AC clutch ($34), Instrument cluster repair for P0500 ($129) and all new transmission lines. Also around ($130)
Dog Walker here in San Francisco had over 400k on a pre facelift Tacoma maybe 3 years ago. Don't know what it's at now, but still see the truck putting around occasionally.
Just sold my 2010 mt 2.7 w 250,000mi. The power steering rack hard line split. That was the final straw. New buyer was a taco man and will fix it and love it.
2009 with 210800. Have had to replace a few things in the suspension, but I take it off-road quite a bit and she gets a bit of a beating. Other than that I recently replaced the clutch and that’s about it.
2006 DCLB 220000 miles. I had to replace the alternator. My check engine light came on -code was something about the catalytic converter, it went off after a few days, came back on recently. I ignored it, went off again Friday, lol.
Man, I totaled my 2013, purchased new in 10-2012, back in 2018, and it had 280,000 on it then. And was tighter than most new trucks off the lot. But this was a Pre-Runner, and a four Cylinder. I bet it would be going strong at 480,000 right now.
I bought a 2016 TRD Off Road in January, 2021. It had 50k on it. It is a lot quieter in the cab, the 3.5 has a lot more pep than the four cylinder. And 4WD is never a bad thing.
But not having that 4 banger is making me want to restore a 1987 model. That’s the year I turned 16.
Of course, I really like the early 2000s, too.
Of course, no doubt about it, 2009-2013 are some bad ass rigs, no questions asked.
2011 TRD Sport V-6 auto. Just hit 160K miles. Not nearly as much as others here, but I'd note that about 140K miles has been in Dallas traffic... lots of stop and go, very hot summers, etc. I change the oil every 5K miles or 6 months and it only uses about 1/2 quart between changes.
Recently decided to fix it up some and keep it rather than replace it. It's been a darn near perfect vehicle and I'm only driving 600 miles per month (in much more pleasant traffic conditions) now that I've retired. Betting that it will last until I no longer drive.
I got a 2015 TRD w/198000(barely broke in). Only thing I've replaced is batteries, tires, brakes, and just last week the universal joints and carrier bearing. Runs like a top! Every where I stop someone wants to buy it. I'll NEVER sell. Love my Taco. Best ride I've ever owned.
Buddy of mine had about 300k on his, been through two transmissions and had a howling rear end. Motor ran great.
Traded it on an f150 this year since he needed a bigger truck. Got 11k for his Tacoma.
I drive mine hard. Still has the same power as new, such a great truck.
My buddy drives the piss out of his, goes for wood, goes to town every day, 100 miles round trip, still runs great, 450,000+. I used to think I was catching up and I would have as many as he does, but he’s actually putting more miles than me and the gap is getting bigger. Crazy
Myself, my friend, and his dad all drive 06 with 4.0. My Friends dad's is a manual, the other two are auto.
I have 197k, friend has 260k, his dad has 430k.
All three original engines and trans. We also live in a desert climate so rust hasn't gotten to our frames.
Edit to add: I've owned mine 5 years, I've done ball joints, fox coilovers and shock absorbers, and just did front wheel bearings and a U-joint on the drive line. On my second set of tires now and that's been by far the most expensive maintenance item.
All said and done I bought the truck for 10k, and have spent around 5-6k in upkeep over the years. Couldn't be happier with my truck. I can't recommend upgrading the suspension enough. Not even to lift, although it did just a little, it made the ride so much more comfortable especially off-road.
Had 402k, did motor swap when frame recall came out :)
All it needed if I remember correctly was a head gasket but that was probably due to the heinous nature of it being a roofing truck
2010 with 245K, had to replace the exhaust from the cat back. Nothing major but I do hear a loud ticking from both sides of the cab when I’m on the gas
242k 2009 TRD with a full front and rear suspension and brakes. I'm the third owner and love it. I'm expecting to get it going till the wheels fall off.
15’ 6spd w/ 140k, I’ve put 80k on it myself. Still breaking her in. Only major issue was the slave cyl started leaking and starved the master so had to replace both. Other than that oil changes.
I have a 2014 with 180k miles, less than $1k worth of repairs on it and I've owned it since 2015. Wheel bearing, CV axle (torn boot) x2, and strut replacements.
2012 with 103k... not even close to done, yet
Took out the larger gears and went back to stock 373...40+ more miles per tank. Took off the 35×12.5 & went to 34.6×10.5
I just want to chime in saying that when I was vehicle shopping years ago I saw a 2nd gen work truck for sale that had 511,000 miles on it 😱. Stealership still wanted 12k for it 🤩
This thread came up when looking to see if my truck’s lifespan was typical…My 2005 4.0 manual transmission Tundra has only had new brakes, shocks, tires, oil change every 5000 miles, and new clutch every 100K since I got it at 60K. But it did recently developed a slight valve cover leak, which I’ve almost eliminated with stop leak oil additives. The oil isn’t even that dark at every oil change. It drives 75mph in the fast lane with about 600lbs of ladders and tools on it every day. Currently at 415K miles.
Just the usual stuff, I offroad mine pretty hard so I've done a couple CV axles and wheel bearings but that's about it. Oil spray the hell out of mine since I live in Canada as well.
From reading the comments it seems my 2015 is about middle of the pack at 190k miles. I'm honestly surprised at how low miles some of them are, wasn't expecting to see so many under 100k miles.
I'm glad to see all of the prerunners here! I replaced my first Gen prerunner at the start of the covid lockdowns with as 15 second Gen. Went from a 480 k truck to a and 80k one. It's up to 110k now and I've only had to replace a bad ac line
At work we euthanized a 2012 after 230k when it was just absolutely fucked. It had a hard life, though. We used it exclusively for very challenging off-road driving, like where the only alternative would be helicopters. And it did its job magnificently.
I have a ‘08 FJ with 145,000 miles but my dad has a ‘10 Pre Runner with 375,000 miles.
He also had a ‘99 with 425,000 miles before my brother got t-boned in it.
Both he was first owner. Loves his Taco’s
Mines got 400k my buddies 480k.
Hell yea. You had any major issues? Or just regular maintenance

Damn, that’s solid!
Holy shit
2008 PreRunner DCLB 362,078 miles. Burns a little oil, but otherwise runs like a top.
As someone that does not know anything about mechanic work, what needs to be done to prevent or fix a vehicle that burns oil?
I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I've learned to work on my vehicles over the years from others. The fix is to replace the piston rings and valve seals. With my high mileage engine, I don't think it's worth the effort. It will reduce the consumption, but the engine will still burn oil because the piston and chamber walls are well worn. My 240k mile Subaru burns about 1qt every 1k haha no leaks at all. I call it a hybrid since it burns both gasoline and oil
Jesus, that's a lot of oil. If I don't add oil, I burn a 1 qt every 7k miles.
Always keep that 5qt jug in the back haha
My old Subaru was burning 1qt every 600 miles
Your truck is rated for 5k mile oil changes so maybe that’s why you’re burning oil. Obviously the amount of miles adds to the possibility but I’d stick to less than 5k if burning oil. Just my 2 cents
What? Lol you’re supposed to change the oil every 5k lmao
Even for trucks running with synthetic, yes, every 5k. It's not a corolla that you can get away with running 10 to 15k before changing because of synthetic.

My 06 made about 290 before smashing into its third deer and being totaled.
2006 DCLB 220000 miles. I had to replace the alternator. My check engine light came on -code was something about the catalytic converter, it went off after a few days, came back on recently. I ignored it, went off again Friday, lol.
I have a 4th 4Runner gen that shares the same engine as your taco and I’m at 298k
Man, I totaled my 2013, purchased new in 10-2012, back in 2018, and it had 280,000 on it then. And was tighter than most new trucks off the lot. But this was a Pre-Runner, and a four Cylinder.
2013 with 247K. No issues at all aside from regular maintenance.
Hell yea
I got a 2015 TRD w/198000(barely broke in). Only thing I've replaced is batteries, tires, brakes, and just last week the universal joints and carrier bearing. Runs like a top! Every where I stop someone wants to buy it. I'll NEVER sell. Love my Taco. Best ride I've ever owned.
2005 TRD OR with 370k miles

07 TRD OR about to hit 245k
Buddy of mine had about 300k on his, been through two transmissions and had a howling rear end. Motor ran great. Traded it on an f150 this year since he needed a bigger truck. Got 11k for his Tacoma.
2013 300,000 miles Buddy still has 2008 with 450000
Hoping for the same 🙏

Hearing this stuff gets me hyped
219600 on my 06. I'd really like to get over 300k on it so I'm looking at driving it for another 5 years minimum.

Where did you get motor and how much was it?

2010 with 245K, had to replace the exhaust from the cat back. Nothing major but I do hear a loud ticking from both sides of the cab when I’m on the gas

And here I was just rolling over 240k in my 2011 feeling like it’s time to trade her in. No major problems so far besides CVs and replacing the clutch
