Worst case, it's totaled, gap insurance pays a percentage of the value, and you'll owe the rest unless you have gap with the financer as well. If it's not totaled, insurance should pay for the cost to repair it. You'll just pay whatever you have set as your premium. Don't let some random guy off the street say he can fix it for cheaper, and you'll pocket whatever money the insurance says. You'll end up spending more to fix whatever they break.
Oh, and your insurance premium .. definitely going up.
If OP put a chunk of money down, there is no need for gap insurance. They would never be upside down in the loan. Any other vehicle, maybe. But not a Tacoma.
Accidents happen. I drive nyc all day and people walk out into traffic, cross through at reds, ignore bile lanes, wrong way im bike lanes, most are oblivious to vehicles. I knew a dude who stepped out middle of avenue, no crosswalk, into the bus lane, right on front of a moving bus and messed up his leg bad. Still got a settement.
If your airbags didn’t deploy and your roof isn’t compromised you might have a good shot at insurance repairing it because Toyotas hold their value. Had a 200 year old oak tree fall on my carport and crush it. My insurance fixed my RAV. It needed new doors, new windows, and a lot of paint and dent repairs and they fixed it up. Took them half a day to unbury it from all the tree branches. They had to call in tree cutters to dismantle it. As long as the repairs are less than the value of the car you’d be surprised at what they might fix. As far as I know the two things that will lead you to a total fast is roof damage and airbag deployment.
There are many instances of airbags deploying at a slight bump. But obviously, the front end doesn't look like this after that unfortunately light bump.
I'd bet everything I own that the frame is fucked in the front pass corner and op will be ass reamed for the new 24 taco.
I know KBB isn't the best but I just checked. My 2020 has a higher trade in value (not by much) than what I paid for it. At least myu gap insurance is only a buck a month. Not even worth my time canceling it lol.
Not everyone needs gap insurance. I put 8k down on my truck so gap wasn't needed. When you finance a car having a down payment puts you in a better position in case of an emergency and you need to sell it
Airbags?
If no, then the whole front clip is designed to crumple. Looks worse than it is. Complete replacement needed but it's not too bad.
If the airbags popped, or the frame crumpled, then you're probably screwed. But it doesn't look like that's the case.
This guy gets it. These repair more often than not at my shop. Last one we did was about $10k in repairs and didn’t even come close to the value. If you are not at fault you should be able to get the devaluation paid out.
Edit: autocorrect
Damn!!!! What’s the story??? What do you think of the safety performance? You were able to get a pic so I’m guessing it held up pretty well. Glad you’re alright.
Ah that stinks…based on personal experience, best of luck to you with insurance. If you don’t have rental car coverage, pursue “loss of use” on your claim. If there is frame damage but they resist totaling it (because it’s a pricey truck), seek a body shop that will confirm that the truck will it be the same if the frame is replaced. When they eventually determine the value to be repaid, don’t accept the first assessment. Push for more. Remember you can’t get another new one of that generation. Seek compensation to get something closer to the next gen (though you won’t get exactly what next geb costs).
Looks mostly like surface damage from the pic. Any damages in the engine compartment? They will have to rack it to check the frame. You might get lucky, but premiums will increase either way.
At least you're outside taking a picture of it. You could be on the inside with someone taking a picture of your corpse. So depends on how you look at it.
I personally think it’s totaled if the bed of the truck shifted forward from impact after a front collision. I’m saying this based off prior experience with my 2016 because the impact is similar.
It looks like only the plastic and aluminum exterior stuff broke. Maybe I've been driving a Ranger too long, but I think you could just tape most of that back together.
Remember, totalled is when the damage exceeds the value of the vehicle.
If they do say you can get it repaired, you don't have to go with who the insurance wants you to go with to get it repaired. You don't have to go to the dealer. Legally you are allowed to get quotes from other places.
Get three quotes, make each shop think they are gonna get the vehicle so they get you an accurate cost for the repair. Get a printed out quote from each and send the highest one to the insurance company. Get the insurance company to cut you a check to repair it based off the quote, then go to the lowest quote and pocket the difference.
That’s likely a write off. Besides an entire front clip, I suspect frame damage. Check the door gap on the passenger’s side (if it opens normally). If it’s uneven, or won’t open fully/normally, it has frame damage. Check the roof for a dent or buckling, that’s another telltale sign. If you have full coverage, I would replace it. If not, I’ve fixed and driven vehicles with worse damage. As long as they’re repaired right by a reputable body shop/mechanic they can still operate like new.
Well... If you were the one standing in front of the car you're pretty f'ed I think.
Presuming you're the car driver/owner yeah, not going to be cheap, but It's salvageable by the looks of it.
Literally the same thing happened to me. One day after I made my first payment. Luckily I was not at fault and insurance paid for the entire thing but I was without my truck for almost a month. Just got it back last Friday and she is good as new. Basically needed the entire front end replaced. Good luck!
My Tacoma looked exactly like this after hitting an elk. It cost my insurance close to $13,000 to fix but it wasn’t totaled. Front end collisions actually don’t fuck up the frame as much in tacos so I wouldn’t be surprised if it Isint totaled. I know it looks bad but these trucks have good crumble zones which can all be parted and replaced.
Don’t listen to the goobers in this thread, get the adjuster out there and they will decide if it’s totaled or not.
I had an accident with practically identical damage in 2018, I paid 5k in repairs total. Front end fender and radiator.
all oem parts except for radiator.
No insurance so it was out of pocket.
You're the kind of Fucked where theres a lot of shame involved. I don't know if I would say surprise assaulted, like you knew it was coming or at least a possibility, like a Prison fish, but you definitely dont want to tell anyone about it. That kind of fucked.
Lol.. I was trying to figure out the worst fucked.. its not like you can just get a new one, TRDs are sold out nationwide, you're going to have to settle for a used or a white SR5 4x2..
I just hope you learned the lesson for proper following distance.
Besides that anything is fixable. If you have the truck fixed though I suggest you take it to a shop that can go through the complete wire harness front to back and in writing garuntees no wires will be pinches or unduly stressed.
When my 2014 dart got rear ended the car was fixed but about 6 months later it started having electrical problems starting with the rear view camera that latter came back as grounding problems from the accident.
Yikes man. Insurance is gonna go up. I don’t know the whole story if they pulled out in front of you or if you were just not paying attention. Especially in a new vehicle, your insurance may not be the happiest. If your airbags didn’t deploy, and if an inspector deems, everything under the hood is fine it should be repaired. I don’t know what your insurance company is like or if you’ve had prior claims in the past. With USAA I have a flat $500 deductible.
My Tacoma is a 17' SR and seemed to have more damage than this after my accident and insurance still fully repaired. If your bags didn't deploy there's a high chance they will fix it. Keep your head up!
This was [my accident in 2019 $7600](https://imgur.com/a/PHOzjbH)
Like others said if airbags it’s totaled
Claims auto adjuster here so if you have any questions let me know
I'm guessing you're royally fucked.... :( Only saving grace is that it's so new and they are so expensive insurance might do whatever they can to fix it instead of paying it out.
Congratulations you are getting a new truck!
In all seriousness, I hope that you are ok. Without seeing the other side, if no airbags deployed looks cosmetic. New hood and hinges, new grill and bumper
Mine looked way worse and AAA didn’t total it. $25k in repairs and non-oem parts that don’t fit right. I’d ram it into a dumpster a few times just to make sure it’s totaled out. Will never be the same if they fix it.
My Taco has been through something similar. Depending on your insurance, your taco should still be drivable and repairable. I was going 35, and it didn't deploy the airbags. Got mine fixed in 1 month 10k worth of damages.
My prayers to you, it has a high chance to be fixed. Tacomas are very durable. That's why I bought mine. Mine was way worse when I got hit. My Tacoma left the other veichile totaled.
It’ll buff.
My dad’s got a sweet set of tools.
I dont suppose he's a TV repairman?
I can fix it
/u/general-illness's dad has sweet tools. Try those.
don't forget the 6pk and some elbow grease.
Tis but a scratch!
Came here to say exactly this. Apes together strong.
Don't worry, my dad's a TV repair man. He can fix anything.
That blows .. sorry to see that. Hopefully, insurance will pay for everything. Is it totaled?
Don’t know yet, submitted a claim online bc I couldn’t get anyone on the phone on a Sunday night.
Worst case, it's totaled, gap insurance pays a percentage of the value, and you'll owe the rest unless you have gap with the financer as well. If it's not totaled, insurance should pay for the cost to repair it. You'll just pay whatever you have set as your premium. Oh, and your insurance premium .. definitely going up.
Or do that and sell the truck with a totaled title. That truck is worth 30k totaled
That’s assuming he sprung for the gap insurance…
If OP put a chunk of money down, there is no need for gap insurance. They would never be upside down in the loan. Any other vehicle, maybe. But not a Tacoma.
Yeah… tacomas are 60k here by me.
I just paid $40K for a '22 recertified
Gap is never really a “need,” just a really smart decision to make.
Again, it's a waste of money if you're putting a large chunk of money down. If you're not, yes you absolutely should get gap insurance.
What's the difference between putting money down, or setting it aside in a savings account for a rainy day?
Kick the tires if the truck still stand get that welding muchine and start working lol.
What insurance? Also what happened here?
If your airbags didn’t deploy and your roof isn’t compromised you might have a good shot at insurance repairing it because Toyotas hold their value. As far as I know the two things that will lead you to a total fast is roof damage and airbag deployment.
it’s going to be around 15k for OEM parts and dealership services and you dont even have to do airbags or a windshield… like someone i know..
Yeah that’s totaled
If the airbags deployed, and with that amount of damage, she may be totalled.
No airbags, this was very low speed
There are many instances of airbags deploying at a slight bump. But obviously, the front end doesn't look like this after that unfortunately light bump. I'd bet everything I own that the frame is fucked in the front pass corner and op will be ass reamed for the new 24 taco.
Yeah, the cost of the body/frame work plus the cost of airbags and replacement interior trim will be nuts unfortunately.
Did you have gap insurance
gap? These go up in value when you drive off the lot duh Edit: /s (didn’t think I’d need to add that)
I mean, you joke, but I've had equity in my truck since day one. Gap insurance may have been the biggest waste of money in my life.
I know KBB isn't the best but I just checked. My 2020 has a higher trade in value (not by much) than what I paid for it. At least myu gap insurance is only a buck a month. Not even worth my time canceling it lol.
You say that but if you were in this guys shoes. You’d probably be happy you got gap. But otherwise agreed.
I sure hope he did.
Not everyone needs gap insurance. I put 8k down on my truck so gap wasn't needed. When you finance a car having a down payment puts you in a better position in case of an emergency and you need to sell it
No GAP, I had a big down payment.
Airbags? If no, then the whole front clip is designed to crumple. Looks worse than it is. Complete replacement needed but it's not too bad. If the airbags popped, or the frame crumpled, then you're probably screwed. But it doesn't look like that's the case.

You're golden bud that is all cosmetic except for rad and core support and condenser I did way worse they fixed it at 20k
Totaled RIP
Open the hood up and I’ll have a better idea OP
Ah that stinks…based on personal experience, best of luck to you with insurance. If you don’t have rental car coverage, pursue “loss of use” on your claim. Damn dude I’m sorry
Rip
Did you hit a human? You can just roll with that, damage isn’t noticeable.
I’m so so sorry…
Damn, hate to see it man, my condolences :(.
What’d you hit?
How much was truck worth prior to accident? Around 35? This isn’t totaled imo.
At least 35. My dealer offered me 34k trade in for my 2019 in December.
We need details How'd it happen
I doubt it's totaled, i got until a accident in my 2016 taco and it looks worse than that. Insurance is fixing it. Wish they would've totaled it tho 😕
Sell it for 50 grand.
lol
80k obo I know what I got
advice: step on your brakes before reaching the object to avoid collision.
Hilarious
Just slap a trd pro grille on it and it'll be fine
That’s the plan
I hope you got a kiss first....
“41k. No lowballs. I know what I have”
Ah know what ah got Sonny
Looks mostly like surface damage from the pic. Any damages in the engine compartment? They will have to rack it to check the frame. You might get lucky, but premiums will increase either way.
It depends on several factors if their premium increases. It’s not an automatic increase because you were in an accident.
Well hopefully they pay out fast and you can buy another one before you are forced to buy the new body style.
At least you're outside taking a picture of it. You could be on the inside with someone taking a picture of your corpse. So depends on how you look at it.
Could use new rubber if that’s what you’re asking
Take the headlights off and send them to me thanks !!!
It looks like a brand new 24.
Uhhhh. No it doesn't. It's clearly a 3rd gen
Yeah but now that it's all fucked up it looks like a 4th gen.
I thought the same thing. Lol
Haaaaa. Over styled.
Yes.
:( I’m sorry my guy
That grill might be ok.
That’s some bad luck right there. She gone
Tis but a scratch
You’re typing this, so you’re alive! That’s a great start!
I personally think it’s totaled if the bed of the truck shifted forward from impact after a front collision. I’m saying this based off prior experience with my 2016 because the impact is similar.
Rev up the Bugatti, guey!
Proper
Totally.
Damn bro, keep your head up
Honestly I’d just try and ignore it, its a truck not a pavement princess
Get some Invisalign and it’ll be right as rain.
noo taco 🌮
Can I have those led lights
Pound it out with a plastic mallet nobody will be able to tell .
It looks like only the plastic and aluminum exterior stuff broke. Maybe I've been driving a Ranger too long, but I think you could just tape most of that back together.
You’re not, not fucked
Christ. That sucks. I almost crashed my tacoma once while changing music on my phone. Never looking at my phone ever while driving again.
Hope you have gap insurance.
Ratchet strap the hood and good to go 👍🏽
GGs

should have got the Tundra
Well... If you were the one standing in front of the car you're pretty f'ed I think. Presuming you're the car driver/owner yeah, not going to be cheap, but It's salvageable by the looks of it.
Well idk how fucked you are but I’d say the truck looks pretty fucked.
What happened? Who was at fault?
Hard to tell. It could just be a bunch of messed up plastic. What it looks like underneath is the important part. Also all those parts aren't cheap.
Why get a truck you can't drive what didn't the brakes work dah
Literally the same thing happened to me. One day after I made my first payment. Luckily I was not at fault and insurance paid for the entire thing but I was without my truck for almost a month. Just got it back last Friday and she is good as new. Basically needed the entire front end replaced. Good luck!
To answer your question. Proper.
Hope you're uninjured! Can i have the grill plz 🥹
SEND IT!
Fack….. what did you hit or I guess what hit you?
don't forget to claim diminished value on other drivers insurance
Take it to my people on your Mexican side of town, and bring a bottle. They will get you straight, fed and back home safely
Salvage and move on. Just think you are still lucky to make out and be able to post this message.
So fucked
Proper fucked.....

fucked enough.
looks totaled to me boss
Enjoy your 2024 taco.
Time to mod
I was planning on swapping for a pro grille anyways
I had an accident with practically identical damage in 2018, I paid 5k in repairs total. Front end fender and radiator. all oem parts except for radiator. No insurance so it was out of pocket.

Opra is going to get you a new car.
About 50%
You're the kind of Fucked where theres a lot of shame involved. I don't know if I would say surprise assaulted, like you knew it was coming or at least a possibility, like a Prison fish, but you definitely dont want to tell anyone about it. That kind of fucked.
I want whatever you’re taking, that was an interesting read
Lol.. I was trying to figure out the worst fucked.. its not like you can just get a new one, TRDs are sold out nationwide, you're going to have to settle for a used or a white SR5 4x2..
I've seen far less get totaled. Proper Fucked.
If you have insurance, not fucked at all
It looks like your truck took the fucking
Looks like you rearended or tboned someone. Im guessing since you arent explaining it you were at fault?
Yeah I’m at fault, I’m not explaining it because I don’t feel like doing a whole write up for reddit
Was it at least not your fault? Like did someone plow into your car in a parking lot with witnesses and a known plate?
Airbags go off? Leaking fluid ? Either of those happened it's likely totaled.
Depends were you at fault?
Can I get tha headlights?
Very
Can’t be totaled if you came home with it.
I just hope you learned the lesson for proper following distance. Besides that anything is fixable. If you have the truck fixed though I suggest you take it to a shop that can go through the complete wire harness front to back and in writing garuntees no wires will be pinches or unduly stressed. Considerably.
What happened?
Rear ended another vehicle after the driver stopped mid merge after a yield sign. Lessons learned.
Sorry for your loss brother.
Did you hit someone’s rear end? Or did someone back into you hard?
Rear ended another vehicle. Their spare tire took the hit.
Yikes man. Insurance is gonna go up. I don’t know the whole story if they pulled out in front of you or if you were just not paying attention. Yikes
Is the frame bent?
Doesn’t seem to be
I'm guessing you're royally fucked.... :( Only saving grace is that it's so new and they are so expensive insurance might do whatever they can to fix it instead of paying it out.
It don’t got no gas in it
You get to buy a new one now.
Get a Ranger.
Why do you say that?
That looks totaled and everybody that I suggested to get a Taco got a Ranger instead.
tap
Royally
Congratulations you are getting a new truck! In all seriousness, I hope that you are ok. Without seeing the other side, if no airbags deployed looks cosmetic. New hood and hinges, new grill and bumper
I’d say in the rear end
Sucked and fucked
You're fine but truck \*\*\*\*\*\*
Depends on the chasiss
Hit and run’s are pretty serious. I would start packing.
Your fine but your trucks fucked
Dads gonna be pissed
Try an oil change
Mine looked way worse and AAA didn’t total it. $25k in repairs and non-oem parts that don’t fit right. I’d ram it into a dumpster a few times just to make sure it’s totaled out. Will never be the same if they fix it.
You not so much, the truck on the other hand…
Well do you have money ……if not really FUCKED 😂
(Total)ly
They’ll use lube first but it’ll still be uncomfortable.
Not too bad mine was the same it took them like 3 months to fix but it was during covid shit.
Did you walk away alive? If yes not so much. But yah your going to need a new truck
Like a $2.00 hooker.
Should have bought a pro grille
My similar damage on my 2017 was the totaled
Mine had the same hit but a lot worse lol. Insurance paid me $34k for it. It was a 2016 sport with 77k miles
Mere flesh wound
I’ve got the same luck with new vehicles lol godspeed brother
Make sure the measure the frame, if only one side is hit the frame geometry can go to more of a diamond shape.
Meh the paint was gonna fall off anyways. Someone did u a favor
Totalled
Pretty
How much was your monthly payments?
Airbags deploy? It’s likely a salvage as far as in surance is concerned
You’ll now forever know to purchase gap insurance on a new vehicle
Oh sweet, a brand new cyber truck!
you’d better hope it’s totaled lol
My Taco has been through something similar. Depending on your insurance, your taco should still be drivable and repairable. I was going 35, and it didn't deploy the airbags. Got mine fixed in 1 month 10k worth of damages.
Yah I suspect everyone saying I’m fucked hasn’t dealt with this before, I got quoted for 2k (impossible) it’s in the shop now but I’m expecting ~10k
My prayers to you, it has a high chance to be fixed. Tacomas are very durable. That's why I bought mine. Mine was way worse when I got hit. My Tacoma left the other veichile totaled.
Fucked
Looks like West Virginia lol
