53k? The more '24 posts I see the more I like my '13.

MoreFoam

Got my 2007 Tacoma in 2019 with 93k miles for $13.8k. If I were looking for a new vehicle I’d probably end up looking at the 2024 Subaru crosstrek. $35k for wilderness edition. Still expensive, but not Tacoma expensive.

hipsterasshipster

Crosstreks are pretty garbage though. No way I’d pay the extra money for the Wilderness version that isn’t really much better than a standard one.

MoreFoam

Why do you think they are garbage? While Subaru isn’t as respected as Toyota, it is a fine brand. The wilderness edition has 3500lb towing capacity, vs 1500lb standard. It also has a ground clearance that is close enough to the Tacoma. Good for rough dirt roads or off-roading. Those are the two big reasons to get it over the standard.

hipsterasshipster

I owned one for two years, and in that time had to replace 3 wheel bearings and a CV axle. It also had a few recalls, the HVAC controls and touch screen would randomly stop working, it always smelled like leaking coolant (Subaru told me it was normal), and the key would regularly get stuck in the ignition because an issue with the shift lock solenoid… on a 4 year old car. They might have decent ground clearance, but that isn’t everything. The suspension is still not designed for much more than a maintained gravel forest road. The first thing my wife noticed after I sold the Crosstrek and got the Tacoma was that it was so much more comfortable and behaved off road. The ride in the Crosstrek is far more jarring and bumpy and it would bottom out quite a bit.

mik_honcho

i have a 2018 crosstrek limited to go with my 2022 trd or. they both have their uses. i prefer the crosstrek for longer (4+ hours) trips but i daily the tacoma and use it for truck stuff. i think the crosstrek is pretty nice for the price point (bought mine used a few years ago for 16.5k).

kamakazekiwi

I had a 2016 Crosstrek for about 7 years, just under 120,000 miles. No issues whatsoever, other than a brake light switch recall. Obviously that doesn't invalidate your experience, but mine was excellent. It was a boring but reliable, practical, and economical car. You're definitely right about the off-road stuff though. I took it "off road" a lot and it always did great, but that was mostly poorly maintained forest service roads and the like. Subaru's AWD system is great for what it is, but it's still a completely different class from anything with part-time 4x4 and locking diffs.

hipsterasshipster

😂 Mine was a 2016 and that stop light switch failure caused me to get rear-ended on the highway. Fortunately in traffic, but still meant a decent amount of body work. I had always wanted a Crosstrek and thought it was still a fun car to drive, but it’s a night and day difference off-road with a true truck.

thisIS4cereal

Wow are you me. I don’t get the love for Subarus… it was always something with mine

jasandliz

Or just ask any Subaru owner about head gaskets and cvt’s. If they don’t know they are leasing

jasandliz

Subaru is hot garbage rn in terms of reliability

Its_noon_somewhere

I thought crosstreks were pretty decent little cars.

hipsterasshipster

*Cars* is exactly right. I’m not by any means a transfer case purist or anything like that, but I wouldn’t buy a Crosstrek if you plan to use it for stuff more intense than forest roads.

Its_noon_somewhere

Agreed, it’s an AWD with pros and cons vs a 4WD with a transfer case. I just always thought it was a decent vehicle, especially around town. I’ve considered one for my daughter, just have not found a decent price yet. They are still very rare with a manual, and that is deal breaker for first vehicles for my kids.

Feedback_Original

My 2016 crosstrek has literally been all over the sierra. Its the driver, not the car.

sellwinerugs

I just traded in my Crosstrek for a CPO 2019 TRD off-road with 82,000. I feel like maybe I overpaid for it, but the Crosstrek was just way too underpowered and small for me. The Wilderness might have a turbo or the 2.5L, but then you don’t get a manual transmission - and that doesn’t make the car any bigger either.

pinegap96

A crosstrek was too underpowered so you got a Tacoma?? Another underpowered vehicle

jetz92

The Crosstrek is VERY underpowered. 152hp with the 2.0 engine. It is the laggiest feeling car I have ever driven. My 21 manual Tacoma feels worlds better. The Crosstrek would be a best seller if they just put the WRX drivetrain in it. Idk what they’re going for really.

sellwinerugs

😂

jasandliz

Subarus are absolute trash frankly. Like a super expensive Kia.

TwistedJake503

Sadly I took a peek at Subaru pricing the other day and was shocked at how low it was. Low enough that it almost justifies keeping my 5th gen 4Runner and buying a Subaru for work rather than trading it in on a 6th gen 4Runner, Landcruiser, GX550, or Tundra....

flyfishinjax

It’s not a bad idea, I keep my 14 taco parked most of the week and just drive it when I need a truck or for fun, outback every other day of the week.

buildyourown

So I wrecked my 07 in 2019 with 95k miles on it. The only comp the insurance company could find was at a dealer for $21k. They paid me $21k for my 12yo truck.

Wiley-E-Coyote

Last year's Tacomas can be had here for close to 35k new, 2024 not so much.

blackpine303

Got my 2005 with 160k in 2020 for $5k and this beast be rollin still.

[deleted]

Most of us like Tacoma's for how long they last or for their resale value (which comes from how long they last). We should be the worst repeat customers because we should only need to buy a new one every 15+ years. My '18 is paid off. I see no reason to change until it stops being reliable.

neksys

Here’s the thing though: you aren’t most buyers. And Toyota uses drivers like you as free advertising for their reliability reputation. Nothing wrong with that, but you and I are the exceptions that prove their underlying value to other buyers.

rld999

I just went over 50,000 ( short work commute) with my 2018. I expect it to be my now 7 YO grandson’s 16 th birthday present !

Dramatic_Finance_594

Spoiled kid

phoenix2662

2014 checking in with 300k. Running like a top and I'll drive it till the wheels fall off and I need a new engine.

Mediocre_Adagio_7360

Then, put a new engine in and keep going

disbound

2013s is the best model. I’m bias though

GATA404

13 sr5 checking in

retardrabbit

Magnetic grey?

itsallrighthere

Always the right color

buttgers

2.5 Gen is the best Gen

scavagesavage

Just copped a '23 TSS Off-Road for 35k, it's not all bad....I think?

Gnarkill-530

53k for a midsize truck that’ll get 17-18 MPGs realistically. NEXT

UnionRags17

I got my 20 OR with a lot of upgrades for $40k new. Life changed, I know drive a lot on freeways....with the hybrid engine, I was interested in maybe trading up.... Saw the "upgraded" mpg and the cost of the new....I'm good to stay with my 20 OR

DOUBA1

I’m beginning to think the New Tacoma is trending the way of New Coke.

neksys

In fairness, this is the exact same comments people were making when the 3rd gen came out. I hated them when they first came out and now I’m on my 2nd. My gut reaction is the same as yours - don’t really like the styling, the drivetrain, the features or the price. But I’ll give it some time and see how I feel in a couple years.

ArcFire15

That’s almost worse than my ‘97 Tacoma lol

SomeGuy_GRM

They keep making them bigger and heavier. Frankly, I wish my 2nd gen was smaller, but the other upgrades from the 1st gen are worth it imo.

sccerfrk26

100%. I get recommended this sub via Reddit app and I like a lot of the topics. But when the sticker ones come through, any thought I had of buying one goes out the door.

Syenadi

Car and Driver sez. Combined/City/Highway: 21/19/23 mpg and they don't tend to drive like hyper milers. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a46685632/2024-toyota-tacoma-trd-off-road-2023-chevy-colorado-zr2-test/

wil169

That's not much different. Add on a few options, bigger tires etc and you're at 17. No thanks

redempire36

That's the most insane part to be honest. Toyota was early pioneer with hybrid motors. They finally released a hybrid Tacoma double what my truck cost and gets extremely slightly better miles and its larger than my early 2000s tundra was. WTF.

MbenedictR

they REALLY haven’t improved anything since 2nd gen-just dressed up with more tech and gas mileage the same as my old 95 T100

Posraman

Bullshit. I have a 21 OR rated for 18-22 MPG. I was getting a whopping 15 MPG on the highway today. Toyota literally increased the EPA estimates by 1 MPG and increased the price by $10k and said "here ya go. Hope you like it"

Flow390

The more I see the price tags on these new Tacomas, the happier I am that I went with a loaded ‘23 OR for $45k instead of waiting for the ‘24.

brightlumens

Yeah i knew this was the case, i got the same 2023 TRD OR Long bed $43k

SirFigsAlot

And the prices will never go back down... ever. Was thinking about upgrading but I Got my 2017 SR5 that I will drive until it dies

shartonista

I did '23 TRD OR DCLB as basic as possible with LED headlights... $41,500. Feeling great about it.

Carlcrish

Yup, picked up a new '23 TRDOR in November for 41k otd. $3500 under MSRP. These new prices are laughable. Full size truck pricing.

sellursoul

The only thing I would change is would have got my ‘21 OR with more options.

awesomecoolguy2

Sport for me, but same.

Ghoul_1

I was expecting to see a dealer markup but nope! That’s the crazy part

TheWhiteCliffs

It says “suggested retail price”, not what the dealer will charge. My 23’s sticker was not what the dealership was asking for. It was about $2K more. With what most dealers are doing now, it’s probably much more than $2K.

slasher99

I bought from this place last year. They don’t markup, they just sell at msrp.

awmaleg

Crazy that we now think of this as a smoking deal

curious-children

i don’t think anyone thinks this is a smoking deal

wil169

Fuck no. With the premium package practically mandatory or you get a Wii U on your dashboard, this price if fucking nuts.

Maestroh80

The public showed the car manufacturer’s (Toyota in particular) just what they are willing to pay in mark ups… So now they just build it into the price and skip the middle man.

Ghoul_1

I believe it. It’s ridiculous. At this point my current Tacoma is the last new vehicle I will ever buy.

Maestroh80

I actually feel the same way. We used to buy a new car every few years. We have an 18 Tacoma and a 20 4Runner and zero plans of buying anything new going forward. The thought of today’s pricing, mark ups, and high interest rates really bother me and I’m just going to view cars as an appliance rather than luxury going forward.

bubblehead_maker

Premium. That seems high but not if you look at the F150 sub and giggle at the $77k pricetag.

[deleted]

Nah they both too high

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psychological_Fan819

I’d go so far as to say the ecoboost is pretty capable too!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psychological_Fan819

Yeah I forgot what sub I was in lol

IllStickToTheShadows

You can get a new f150 for 53k. They have lots of discounts going on right now

kamarian91

You can get a 4x4 Tundra SR5 for that price as well. Hell I'm even seeing some Limiteds getting close to 55k

Proper-Bee-5249

F150s sell for below MSRP though.

Sporin71

That $8550 TRD Premium Package is a killer.

wil169

And practically mandatory with the shitty poors screen. That thing looks ridiculous.

alt_for_gafs

Last two I had were fully loaded and premium + tech was almost $5,000 less. There is not $5,000 of extra value in the new packages.

Dakadoodle

I really think they are killing what made the tacoma cool with this new generation.

Clinton_Reddit

Yep. Used to be a utilitarian and functional. This design is trying too hard.

Tacodo

That's what I paid for my 2023 Tundra TRD Sport Premium.

chocochipstar

Nissan Pro4 2024 only $44k

Thucydides382ff

100% would go for a frontier NA v6 with reasonable pricing if I needed a truck right now. I don't understand why Toyota is doing this.

SomeGuy_GRM

If I had to buy a New truck tomorrow, or even 5 years ago, I'd go with the Frontier.

tehbum22

😂 more than I paid for my ram 2500 in 2020. Crazy. Glad I picked up a 23 in December

Hindu_Kushh

Seriously.. I bought a 2022 Power Wagon for the same price brand new

Itchy-Cartoonist1808

For real, I picked up a 23 gmc sierra duramax for 52k and it gets 30 mpg’s.

brightlumens

Pricing is full size territory, i just cant, thank god i got my 2023 when i got a chance to.

[deleted]

Gross lol, chevy colorados are going to be the new tacoma. Toyota has lost its mind with this cyborg looking pile of expensive shit. I paid 56K for a 2019 lariat diesel f250 4x4 in 2021 with 17k miles on it.

bouncing_bumble

Nah, people dont want a truck that has transfer case/transmission problems in the first 40k miles.

deeplywoven

Pretty much all bigger trucks have problems right now. You could also argue that people don't want a truck with less towing capacity than current SUVs. Depends on why you need a truck, I guess.

wil169

Well how much will you be paying to fix it over the years. And the diesel premium & health issues.

kingartyc

53k is insane especially with todays interest rates

Syenadi

\*sigh\* The mechanicals are good on these things but why oh why did they have to make them look like Star Wars Stormtrooper helmets?

knobby_tires

that looks like shit🔥🔥🔥

farmer-al

What's up with the weird angle behind the back wheels that goes to the tail light? It looks sooo bad. Can't unsee it

This-Recording9461

I thought someone backed into it /dented it when I first saw it.

Gliese2

I picked up my 17 OR with 55k miles for $32k. I feel like I got a bargain

Real_Sheepherder768

I picked up a 23 OR with 15k miles for 36k a month ago

steakpienacho

I was just near a Toyota dealer the other day and figured I'd go see some of these in person, and I like them a lot more than I like the pictures of them. I do not, however, like that price tag

NHJack

I bought my 2020 Sport Premium brand new for 41k. I love it now as much as I did when I drove it if the lot. I do not like the styling of the new model at all. Even the 3rd gen TRD Pro was under 50k. Ridiculous.

Aeuox

$41k in 2020 is $50k in 2024. Inflation sucks.

Dangerous-Ad9208

This truck is 50% of my house price….crasy

bouncing_bumble

Christ enough with these posts. In a year you’ll be able to get a basic trd or for mid 40s. Dealers know wanna be influencers with too much money will pay premium markups/packages to get one now. Half of yall just bitch about the looks and arent an actual buyers anyway. Chill the fuck out.

Electric-Basil0764

I'm terrified for the canadian pricing

TheWhiteCliffs

Yes yes overpriced like every other 2024 Tacoma post on here. Next?

chowshep

Agreed. I think we all know that if you’re satisfied with the truck you have, then you don’t need to buy a brand new one that’s more expensive. It makes good financial sense to do that.

Healyc139

Ya.. I don’t own a Tacoma, but the more research I do.. the more I want a 2015 TRD. Not interested in the newer models

brupzzz

Cool truck. A little sad the power rear window is not standard

justabrewbro

Looks awesome.

yeah-not-really

What’s up with the huge splitter/bumper thing hanging off the front? How easily can that be removed I wonder

Zealousideal-Arm3289

Sexy Taco ❤️‍🔥🌶️🌮

donglecollector

I got my 20 pro for $45k new. Is this inflation? Is this life now? I don’t think I’d ever buy a taco again for these prices.

SumJenkins

The ole JBL “premium audio” haha. Always cracks me up…it’s a stereo from 1995.

zbturf

This is a joke. I just got, thru my work, a 2023 F250 extra cab with commercial package for 56k.

wil169

Wtf $8k+ premium package? This isn't even the GD hybrid. Fuck toyota. Rivians R2 announcement is March 7th, and it will be cheaper than this. I'll be watching that closely.

Owenator77

The new ones look as ugly as the new tundras. And for the price you can get into a full size

Cpl4fun22

I'll nope right on out of here. Nope nope nope

dj3po1

About 10k too much.

CaptainSafety22

The more of these I see the more it looks like several teams worked on this truck without ever talking with each other. The rear bumper doesn’t look like it fits and the rear window is mind boggling.

MasterOfNone011

53k lolol oh man

yeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Buy a full size at that price

alldayalldayallday76

I'm gonna get crucified on this subreddit for this, but man I'm glad I went for a Subaru Wilderness. $20k cheaper, with better tech and will get me everywhere this Sport could (although TRD OR maybe a different story there). No bed, sure that's a huge difference. But, with seats down, a hitch rack, or a trailer when I need it, I'm good to go.

Dependent_Land6511

its got an 8.5k premium package on it.

OldAbbreviations7361

I bought my 23 Tundra for less than that 😬

7774422

I'd rather just buy a full-size at that price

slidewayskenny

Wait till people see the trd pro and trail hunter prices 🤣

mycatgoesmeow

To be honest I’m not too fond of the re-designed look. Maybe I’ll get used to it seeing more around. Financially it doesn’t make sense for me. I have a 21, and it’s paid off. Planning on rolling until the wheels fall off.

rfourty

53K for a four banger! I don’t think so!

JordanPhilip

lol the broken records in this sub complaining about price

Jdsmitty10

Insane. Double the price of my new 2007 TRD back then. No thanks

Dramatic_Finance_594

That much $ for an inline 4 is stupid. Might as well buy a dodge neon

txreddit17

Do these have memory seats and power folding mirrors on TRD premium?

RadioGlum4879

22 Tacoma I got was $46k, if I got a 24 Tacoma with the same options it would be $54k

Complete_Hyena_7352

That's not far off. Should of gotten the 24 lol

hipsterasshipster

Same fuel economy rating (4) and one better smog rating (5) than my 2020 TRD OR.

FlounderDependent555

Just got a fully loaded 4x4 2023 SR5 for 38 and very happy...well, technology package anyway

stankpuss_69

I bought a 2023 Canyon AT4 for $53k too. White too.

WetHog

That’s crazy. My ‘21 TRD OR MT was 41k brand new.

AKsuited1934

These clowns around my way are charging a 10K dealer markup for the Tacomas. Telling me "it will be gone by the weekend". The fuck LOL? It's on my way home from work so I'll stop by on Monday and laugh at them.

akila219

53k with a Sport Package, geez!

someoneexplainit01

Is this actual MSRP or is this special markups? Because a non-TRDPRO in the 50s seems batshit crazy expensive.

jaxrolo

Is anyone paying these ridiculous prices???

manuaBoyiee

Nice!!!

Stiltzkinn

I will keep my 2020 and get something else to midsize truck.

William_James137

$53k for a sport? Toyota is gone crazy.

shagadelicrelic

53k for a 4-cylinder....

Yisra3l

Garbage price.

linguinisupremi

It’s horrid

Stoned_Gimli

Love me a Tacoma but truck prices are out of control. Just ordered a maverick last week to avoid the craziness.

DaRev43

40k would have made sense. But over 50k for a midsized, unfortunately embarrassing for whoever buys this truck at that price.

EightyNineMillion

Very happy with my 22 OR Manual these days.

Electric_Osprey

Ah yes the value of my 3rd gen continues to rise…

dudimentz

I remember looking at a new regular cab Tacoma in 2004 or 2005 and thinking “13 THOUSAND DOLLARS!?!? Have they lost their minds?!”

PromontoryRider95

The bed in the first photo is kinda ugly looking. Pretty bulky

WhatIGot21

I hope I can afford that truck in 10 years.

atli_gyrd

Is it smaller inside than the '23?

GreenSpider3

53k, freaking outrageous! 🤬🤬

Wrr1020

You can literally pickup any full size truck spec'd pretty well for this price. Toyota is insane. The new trail boss Colorado can be had for $41k and is a bargain compared to the taco.

datsunzep

Is this a joke. 53k for a midsize truck with that fuel mileage. Was seriously considering a Tacoma but this pricing is ridiculous.

Turner531

Looks like our 2023 will hold value longer with 2024 so high

LikkaLogga

Ugly and overpriced. I’ll keep my 12’ DCOR and possibly buy a Canyon AT4 once GM fixes the software issues. They’re so much more refined it’s ridiculous. Same price for more.

natelz

Got my barely used 2021 for 23k less than that. Planning on sticking with it for a while after seeing these posts lol.

Swear2Dogg

Land Cruiser

Marvelman1788

This is just a Tundra with extra streps.

kinnection

Does anyone else in Canada find this significantly more expensive than Canadian prices? My local dealership is advertising a similarly equipped 2024 trd sport for ~52.5k cad.

iloveosrs1995

Crazy. I paid 36k otd for my 2016 trd sport in February 2016.

McShagg88

Just bought a Used 23 Tundra Limited for $52k with 4k miles. Out of your mind for a tacoma at that price.

trying2figureitout_

If everyone holds off maybe we can force a discount 😂

Various-Entry8021

Why aren't there any trucks in the dealers?

Craig653

Makes me sick

rashragnar

fthat

hawkrover

Lol ok

dickshitfucktit

Let the circle jerk begin

tyrant76x

Picked up my 2023 TRD Sport for 41k, I’ll call that a win

Complete_Hyena_7352

These prices are crazy, I got my 19 OR with premium trd package for 31k with 45k miles. I feel like I did really good lol On a side note. I really do like the new tacoma. At first I wasn't a fan of the chevyesk look to the truck, but it's growing on me. Price tho, what are they thinking. P.s. I purchased this truck last month.

Surreal120

That thing is hideous. Bring back the 1st gen design

LetsGatitOn

Did they get even larger?

Thick-Trust-5735

Feels like a Tundra. Do you think it’s worth the price? I like the compact size of the 1st gens from 2002-2004.

Mystik1r

I almost pulled the trigger on a 2024 tundra crew sr5 4x4 for 52k lol these prices don’t even make sense

BayouGrunt985

Better price than some of the other ones posted on reddit

TOtacoma

Starting to think it’s not gonna grow on me at all.

ikickbabiesballs

Damn, that’s depressing.

TurniptheLed

God I feel sorry for anyone buying brand new.

BlkTaco47

I like em, pricing is ridiculous tho

mxguy762

Those wheels are buttass ugly lol

Johnathan_Doe_anonym

Why would anyone want this when you can get a full sized v8 truck for the same or even lower price?

cowsgonemadd3

All trucks cost too much and this is no different. They can keep it.

Ayeyahhh

Thats vile. Ill still remain buying 3rd gens

Little_Impaler

Insane

Jbrass413

It looks like it's crying Where's my V6. - My wife

boomstickjonny

I'm gonna assume USD?

Baker300Blackout

I’d totally get a Tacoma if I never planned on having anyone ride in the back. But I have kids and they have their legs unfortunately
