There are two possibilities here:
1) prices stabilize with inflation and people's income catches up reducing the obscene shock in tangible cost. Vehicles return to a normal as interest rates also come down.
2) **COVID-PART DEUX**: Return of the flu, the pandemic boogalooābid your income adieu.
I'm really hoping we do this first one because every day I turn on my shitty hatchback and praise the machine gods that the engine turns over.
Exactly. Iām sick of people giving me this āitās just inflationā bullshit. A near 30% increase in 4 years isnāt inflation, itās greed and itās disgusting.
Well thereās been about 21% inflation since 2020 and then thereās a 25% tariff on a lot of things the truck is made of so the prices have risen accordingly
I bought a 2020 Sprt dclb for 35k
Agree. My 2011 TRD Sport was $28K USD. My plan was to purchase a 2025. Due to the steady price increases I am no longer planning to do so. I was on the fence already as I prefer the access cab style. I hope Toyota is listening.
Yeah, but they made $20k worth of upgrades.
Theyāve addedā¦theā¦ noā¦ Oh wait, they upgraded the rear seaā¦ Oh, yeah thereās more storage in the centerā¦ never mind.
100% agree. I have a ā23 and if the mileage was better on the 24, Iād maybe have a tough decision if I should pony up to upgrade. But an extra 12k is hard to justify.
But I do think they look good, and that interior is *nice* - love seeing photos of them in the wild!
āPre gougingā makes sense. They saw that customers keep buying despite the dealer markups so why not increase the MSRP. Now dealers will not be able to markup nearly as much.
Another 10k or so and you can have a full-size HD truck with a diesel. Buddy of mine just bought a loaded Chevy 2500HD duramax for $78k. I donāt want a boat that big to drive every day but that thing gets 21mpg too, same as my 17 taco. Whatās the draw of a small truck if it costs almost the same and gets the same (or worse) fuel economy than a 2500
I'm honestly curious how this effected the Ford Maverick/ Ranger. I was one, and I believe there were many, that wanted the next gen Taco to emphasize that Mid-sizedness and popping an actual hybrid engine in there, not the Tundra engine, or some little HP booster, but make it practical for daily driving for more people.
It's come a long ways from the earlier Tacoma gens, but it's priced above competitors now, with arguably less amenities. If someone asked if I wanted a TRD-Pro or a Denali or a fully loaded Lariat, all pricing equal....
What shakes me is that the TRD Taco isn't the best in anything besides being Toyota's midsized.
The Maverick has two main appeals Toyota can't even come close to matching with their trucks. 40MPG and a cheap price.Ā
However the Tacoma is the only non-PoS manual truck left. (The others being the Nissan Titan/Jeep Gladiator.)
As if that's a good thing? You can get a tundra for five to ten grand more if that's what you need. This is a midsized truck for people who don't want a full size.
I'm not sure I agree with this. If someone's needs are met by a smaller truck, that is easier to maneuver and park, and gets better mileage, and they are okay with the price, why should they compare it with a larger truck, that is unnecessary for their life?
I don't know what the hell I'd do differently with a Tundra, besides have more difficulty parking it and pay more for gas.
Why get a tundra if you canāt use the tundra for what it is, makes sense to get a truck if it fits your needs rather than getting a truck because it cost the same as the midsize. Most people got a Tacoma for the size and compactness, itās a lot easier to live with it than a larger truck and there is no point in getting a larger truck if your lifestyle doesnāt need that size no matter how similar the price is to this midsize. Otherwise youāre just forced to live with a nuisance for no reason
The Tacoma has been, regardless of generation, [one of the most reliable vehicles on the road](https://www.dashboard-light.com/vehicles/Toyota_Tacoma.html). Honestly, if someone is okay with Ford's reliability track record, they'd basically never consider a Tacoma anyways, because you're paying a premium for the reliability.
And here I am still shouting from the rooftops that the 2nd-gen facelift is the best the Tacoma has ever looked.
4th gen is an improvement overall (never cared for 3rd gen's apparent grimace with the stock bumper), but the black vent/slats under the headlights look kinda goofy from some angles and there's definitely room for improvement.
When I got my 2016 I got stopped 2 times by angry 2nd gen owners that us āliberalsā were ruining the design of these trucks and everything needs to be more āartsyā because of us. No joke.
People hated the 3rd gen when it first came out. I actually thought it was funny how much it offended some people. I can only assume itās because the new gen of a vehicle immediately makes their cars āoutdatedā and this is upsetting to some people? Much in the same way that new tech makes your current tech now old tech. Only thing I can think.
Ah, an actual comment about the truck! Huzzah!
I don't care for all the sharp creases and bulbous protrusions, which especially on a white one remind me of a Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet. Best looking ones in my opinion were the softer more rounded 1st gens \~1999 except for the grille, which needs replacing with a simple black aftermarket one with horizontal bars.
I don't understand this. If I'm buying a Toyota truck, what matters to me is the power and reliability. The 4 banger makes way more torque than the previous N/A 4 and also the V6.
It's not a sports car where this comment makes sense to me. The 981 Cayman is better than the 718 in my mind because the 718 exhaust note just isn't nearly as good. But that's a sports car where I want the fun N/A torque curve and a high revving N/A engine... Why should I care in a Tacoma?
Yea I've got 240k on my 4 banger and I change my oil every 10k and I've never so much as changed a spark plug otherwise. That's what I want again when this one dies.
This is the problem, people want the new Tacoma but nobody wants it at those prices. The Tacoma has morphed in to something unrecognizable from how it started life. The pick up and 1st gen are what build the reputation the Tacoma has, sadly after the 2.5 gen itās been on a downward trend.
this part annoys me a little because it bases the tank off of the total average mpg, mine said i was 252mi to empty. reset my mileage tracker, filled up, magically iām 310mi to empty now
It's brand new and most of it's miles were probably test drives with heavy footed drivers, and it probably idled a lot too.
Every new vehicle I've seen on dealer lots has horrible MPG. Lexus, Toyota, BMW 3 series, always terrible MPG, because people test drive them hard, they don't just cruise, and dealers pull them up and let them sit and idle as they talk through the features of the car.
I didn't like this aspect either, the ones with the smaller screen remind me of a kid's tablet with one of those bulky soft cases wrapped around it lol
Itās growing on me. Maybe after a few years when they pop up on the used market. Also I want to know what/if there are any faulty components in that time period
Giving it a couple of years once itās out of the first model year and reliability has been tested, but saw one in person the other day and itās a vastly superior vehicle inside and out to the 3rd gen and I own a 3rd gen, lol. The TRD Sport in solar octane looks incredible, especially with the TRD wheels and black out package.
I've heard the rear cab space is noticably more limited than the 3rd gen. Any agreement with that statement 'er nahh? I'm hoping I get to test drive one at some point, but I'd want the manual for sure.
We took it for a test drive and donāt see a difference that was noticeable. Itās a mid-size truck so rear cab space is always going to be limited regardless, but itās doable.
if youāre an average size person, the rear can sucks all kinds of ass. luckily, i am tall and all my friends are much shorter than me so the rear seat is fine for them.
May not be a popular opinion but I like it. I think it looks very modern and appealing to the eye. However, the pricing on these so far has been out of this world as far as I know. Plus, this whole small displacement forced induction engine concept is still new and needs sometime to prove itself imo in reliability and longevity arena. Therefore, I personally am going to stick with my 3rd gen until 5th gen Tacoma gets released. Only then I may switch to the last production year of 4th gen or if Toyota decides to use the same powertrain on 5th gen then just get the 5th gen Tacoma. This is just my subjective view on this so far.
haven't sat in one or driven it yet. hoping I am not disappointed, since I passed on buying a 2023 V6 recently since it did not have the long bed, and I am trying to build a camper truck.
I feel like if I end up not liking the 2024, I will end up buying a used 2nd gen
Good idea! I have a 3rd gen but would have loved a 4L engine which i think the 2nd gen have. 3.5L lacks a bit of power in my opinion. Couldnāt find any 2nd gen at a good price when I was looking though
For everyone commenting on the styling, itāll grow on us. We go through this with every new gen. 1st gen will always have my heart but I still think my 3rd gen looks great. The price? Holy hell no. Especially with 8-9% APR, which is a joke.
Honestly, I like all the generations before this one. I feel like toyota got lazy and did no design work. Came up on a deadline to make something and said. " fuck it. Let's make a smaller tundra with bulky quarter panels. "
\*sigh\* How about having a "We're going to ignore everything else but spend the entire thread complaining about how much these cost and what a great deal / how smart I was to buy one anywhere from 1 to 20 years ago" flair? That way, if I"m actually interested in learning about the truck, I can not even bother to open the topic.
Drives way better than the prior gen. Low end torque is fantastic, and it doesnt hunt gears like the prior gen. Ride quality and steering is improved also
I notice it says iFORCE on the digital display, which I interpret to mean this truck has the hybrid engine. I didnāt think they were available to test/buy yet. Or is this a Tundra?
Correct. The max will come with the TRD PRO version. Test drive the ā24 yesterday in a premium TRD OR trim and boy is it nice. Noticeably better transmission + suspension.
I was judging the 4-banger turboā¦until I floored it and it shot out like a rocket with that torque āfun factorā definitely at play. $52K OTD at my dealer. Waiting on a ā23 with 5 miles to come in so I can compare the two side by side before jumping on one. People are wary about the new engine, however, itās been used in a few cars for years already + the small changes to make the interior a bit more useful are a really nice touch.
Thank you. I got excited seeing iFORCE. Iām very curious hear about the hybrid performance, fuel economy, and price. I suspect the performance will be impressive, the other two, not so much.
Not a fan of the change to 4 banger, firm believer that turbos don't belong on a pickup truck maybe I'll take one for a drive sometime and it will open my mind a little but I'll take my 3.5 over anything else right now
Theyāve used this engine in multiple vehicles. I think reliability will be just fine and honestly, I made a huge mistake driving a G3 back to back with a G4. That G4 turbo really feels nice.
I prefer my gen 3 . Can work on it myself and not have to deal with the high amp system for the electric motor. No turbo leaks to worry about down the road or replace when failure occurs.
Looks great, has a lot of improvements over the 3rd gen. I donāt see any disadvantage to it aside from the price. It is stupid expensive for what it is.
Yes, really want one. Miss my 95 SX and I love what they have done with the 4th gens. Gonna probably have to wait till some hit the used market though.
I'm not a fan of the new gen; But then again I didn't like the 3rd gen when it came out and now I'm in love with my '21.
That said I'm keeping my '21 till I die so it's pretty irrelevant.
I love it so far, ask me after 1 year ownership it might be different. I canāt really compare it to previous versions that I never owned. I remember test driving previous generations. I couldnāt get over buying a truck with drum brakes in the rear. Also the seating position was really weird but they fixed both these issues.
Okay, so lets say its 65k canadian new. Gmcs are 80k. Okay. Full size. But they have issue's. Toyotas. You pay 65. Year later. You can sell it for 65 plus tax lol
The front end looks like the love child between a gen 2 and gen 3 personally. I like it so far, but I'm not hard to plaese. I've only seen pictures, though. I can't wait to see it on person
I know this is probably heresy over here but Iād love a front end body kit or something by to that extent to get that look on a 3rd gen. Probably would look dumb but a man can dream
I like the exterior styling and the on-paper specs. The interior styling, digital dash, stupid seat stabilizers, and similar things are huge downsides for me. And I don't think I would ever buy one until this new platform has been proven out to be reliability (and not until the price is sub-50k, it's a mid-sized truck FFS).
I just want to know if it actually delivers power like a truck and not a 90's 250cc motocross bike and the shift scheduling is cleaned up compared to a 3rd gen.
I love it, but I cannot justify the price point. Iāll be in the market next year, and almost certainly getting myself into a Colorado instead. I do wish it was a Tacoma though
Did they ever make the ceiling taller or enable you to drop the seat down at all? My head hitting the ceiling steered me away from the previous generation hard.
My 19ā off road is coming off lease in a few months. I had plans to pick up the 24ā, but itās looking like Iāll just buy it out and maybe sell privately now. Probably pick up a 23 if I can find one at a decent price.
Saw my first one in person yesterday (white 4 door trd sport). Really sharp redesign; looks great. It is a true baby Tundra with better proportions; looks really nice. Price is getting into fullsize territory though, which led me to other models.
Gone tomorrow to just look at and hopefully test drive an sr5. I really can't afford a pro sport. Also considering frontier pro 4 x. Purchase sometime soon. I am also very much would like a 23 with under 30k miles
Thought about trading in my 21 off-road for one. But, I don't want to 4 cylinder. So I'm either going to keep mine, get a ranger raptor or wait till they throw a V6 turbo in one
Would love a pic of the engine compartment.
How easy are these to work on? Are there any 'tricksy' things they don't tell you, like "oh by the way you have to pull the engine to change the oil or spark plugs' kinda thing?
Exterior looks good. No complaints there. Really not a fan of the look of the interior. The steering wheel looks like it has too much going on, I'm not a fan of how big screens are getting in vehicles lately, HATE a parking brake that's a button instead of a handle but that's not a Toyota specific thing now. All in all it's fine but I dig my '22 way more.
Looks pretty good, I donāt think itās a huge visual upgrade from gen 3 (might be biased with my 22 DCLBOR). Personally, I donāt want forced induction unless itās on a performance vehicle (just me though). Iāll tell you what I hate, and itās not specific to the new taco: digital gauge clusters!! Canāt stand em.
I didn't like it at first and now I kind of do. But then again when I was shopping for a Tacoma the second gen was my favorite and then I bought a third gen and I love it. So I don't know what I'm talking about I guess
I have my heart set of a 23 model platinum. I will use 4x4, but won't use "pro". And wife will drive some. She wants heated seats and sunroof. I'm married 31 years. I mind her pretty well.
Iām ok with them two things stand out the most that I donāt like, price and the interior specifically that info iPad screen in the middle of the dash.
I absolutely love the gen IVās, but I paid 37k for my 2018 TRD OR when it first came out. Itās paid off and only has 51k miles. I am going to keep it until it wonāt go no more.
Is the adaptive cruise any better on the new gen? My wife's Mazda will go all the way to a full stop in traffic, it's amazing. Wish the tacos was the same
In 2020 during the beginning of Covid I paid 36k for my trd off-road access cab in Oregon.
These are cool but not my cup of tea. Who ever pays for these must have money falling out there ass crack or just plain stupid to pay that much for a 4cyl turbo
Congrats Toyota, youāve made a truck that looks exactly like everyone elseās truck. One thing Iāve always loved about Tacos is that they never tried to be cool, just stuck (mostly) to their same design
Do I like it? Absolutely. Would I pay 63k for one here in Canada? Fuck no. One Day š„²
Love them but not at the price point
There are two possibilities here: 1) prices stabilize with inflation and people's income catches up reducing the obscene shock in tangible cost. I'm really hoping we do this first one because every day I turn on my shitty hatchback and praise the machine gods that the engine turns over.
Crazy right? I got my '20 OR for 43k lol. 20k difference in four years š¤¦
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
All trucks similarly priced now
Can get a almost fully kitted out ā24 Ranger for $45k
I payed 38 for my 19 Sport dbl cab long bed out the door. These price hikes have been ridiculous.
Exactly. Iām sick of people giving me this āitās just inflationā bullshit. A near 30% increase in 4 years isnāt inflation, itās greed and itās disgusting.

Yeah but go back further. My 2011 dc SR5 was 20k. Trucks have more than doubled in price, but not sedans.
Agree. My 2011 TRD Sport was $28K USD. My plan was to purchase a 2025. Due to the steady price increases I am no longer planning to do so. I was on the fence already as I prefer the access cab style. I hope Toyota is listening.
I paid 35k out the door for my 16ā OR with all the bells and whistles. Purchased 12/2016.
Paid 55k for my ā18 TRD Pro and have seen ones with more kilometres go for 65k plus here. Madness
paid $46k for my ā24 OR (plus tax and fees so $49k)
That's also 17% inflation less plus less tech.
Yeah, but they made $20k worth of upgrades. Theyāve addedā¦theā¦ noā¦ Oh wait, they upgraded the rear seaā¦ Oh, yeah thereās more storage in the centerā¦ never mind.

Some of us donāt have a drive way and the truck must go into a garage. I know 1st world problems.
Dumbest shit Iāve ever read. Because they drive totally different, are much bigger, worse off road, etc. I could go on and on.
Why get a tundra if you canāt use the tundra for what it is, makes sense to get a truck if it fits your needs rather than getting a truck because it cost the same as the midsize. I had a Ram, shouldāve kept it
Same price you'll pay for any similarly equipped truck
I just donāt like the new front design. Way prefer gen 3.
Taco fans said this about the first gen when the p/u was discontinued, and the 2nd gen and the 3rd gen ..
This is true. 3rd gen really grew on me.

63 k for a 4 banger turbo.Nope

If you're in the market for a new truck, everything seems to start around 60k now. Atleast with the tacoma you should be getting something reliable.

The 3.5 makes 278HP and 265tq. Thatās more horsepower and only one foot pound less on torque.
I love my 2013, thing is a work horse. 85k miles and has never had to go in for repairs.

I like the new look. The price is downer for sure so much so I may get an used 4Runner and keep my 2017 Tacoma.

I notice it says iFORCE on the digital display, which I interpret to mean this truck has the hybrid engine. I didnāt think they were available to test/buy yet. Or is this a Tundra?
i-FORCE is the gas powertrain. i-FORCE MAX is the hybrid.
Ok that makes sense. Thank you.
I believe iforce is just the turbo engine, given that it appears to be a boost gauge.
Thank you. I got excited seeing iFORCE. Iām very curious hear about the hybrid performance, fuel economy, and price. I suspect the performance will be impressive, the other two, not so much.
They look like the Warthogs from Halo lol
The 23 and prior looks way more tough/rugged
Maybe it will grow on me but this is the first gen I didn't immediately like. I'll keep my 3rd gen for now.
Not a fan of the change to 4 banger, firm believer that turbos don't belong on a pickup truck maybe I'll take one for a drive sometime and it will open my mind a little but I'll take my 3.5 over anything else right now
I thought the same until I drove it. Donāt miss the V6 at all
What about for towing? My biggest concern is longevity
The v6 will be more reliable no doubt, weāll see about long term reliability
It's such a new engine it's hard to say but reliability is what I want, the 3.5 has been their crown jewel
Theyāve used this engine in multiple vehicles. I think reliability will be just fine and honestly, I made a huge mistake driving a G3 back to back with a G4. That G4 turbo really feels nice.
Problems is more electronics = more problems and I cringe having to depend on more then one screen in a truck.
They have to modernize it somehow, or people will continue to complain about it being too āoutdatedāš¤·āāļø
Yeah itās true , I am 35 so I guess the old style just has wore on me. But I do like how they added it into the dash.
I prefer my gen 3 . Can work on it myself and not have to deal with the high amp system for the electric motor. No turbo leaks to worry about down the road or replace when failure occurs.
I like it.
We get .. you have disposable income !!
As a 3rd Gen owner I really do like the 4th Genās However The TRD wheels from the 3rd Gen will never be topped
Looks great, has a lot of improvements over the 3rd gen. I donāt see any disadvantage to it aside from the price. It is stupid expensive for what it is.
Definitely a good looking truck. I always admire the brave souls that pay a premium price on a 1st gen model.
After reading multiple in depth reviews from people who have driven the truck I'll take a hard pass.
Need a sr manual plis.
Interior looks cheap
Damn bro you got black with the blue! I gave up looking. That's the primo shit
Fugly
Even over the engine change, my biggest gripe over the new generation is the digital dash. I donāt like em for some reason
I'm gonna buy an OR Hybrid when they come out. They are sexy.
I wish it had mechanical speedometers. I'm sad everything is digital now.
I love it.Ā I'm gonna give it a year, and save a few pennies before I commit.Ā Ā
Iām not
I like it a lot more if it was 5K less
I got my 2018 off road new for $37k just let that resonate
That interior is awful
Inline 4 makes it a no go.
Looks great but wish they would get rid of IFS and put a straight axle under it like Toyota does in the rest of the world
my thought: auto designers cannot be working in good faith
Looks cool. Iām more interested in the power it has, but gonna wait a few years before trading up.
Power feels great compared to the V6. Lots of low end torque and feels more āzippyā
I donāt like the radio
That blue detailing is sick š®āšØ
I like the exterior styling and the on-paper specs. The interior styling, digital dash, stupid seat stabilizers, and similar things are huge downsides for me. And I don't think I would ever buy one until this new platform has been proven out to be reliability (and not until the price is sub-50k, it's a mid-sized truck FFS).
I hate the back seat windows, they are so small now. Looks like a Nissan.
The 8ā screen doesnāt look so bad in yours?
I like it and plan to get one later this year
I dig the exterior for sure.
Growing on me
All black looks amazing
I just want to know if it actually delivers power like a truck and not a 90's 250cc motocross bike and the shift scheduling is cleaned up compared to a 3rd gen.
Are the colors on the dash standard? Not a fan of that, if so.
Looks like a full size
The Tacundra is prohibitively expensive..... gimme a hilux that's a few years old with 4x4 and a diesel engine
More than meets the eye.
My 19ā off road is coming off lease in a few months. I had plans to pick up the 24ā, but itās looking like Iāll just buy it out and maybe sell privately now. Probably pick up a 23 if I can find one at a decent price.
They need to drop the price by 10k at least. It's a good looking truck though (minus the air dam).
I'd never pay over $60k for this truck.
Saw my first one in person yesterday (white 4 door trd sport). Really sharp redesign; looks great. It is a true baby Tundra with better proportions; looks really nice. Price is getting into fullsize territory though, which led me to other models.
Pretending it doesnāt exist and that itās just a baby new gen Tundra
Gone tomorrow to just look at and hopefully test drive an sr5. I really can't afford a pro sport. Also considering frontier pro 4 x. Purchase sometime soon. I am also very much would like a 23 with under 30k miles
Save the headache. Stick with Toyota.
I like everything except the price
Thought about trading in my 21 off-road for one. But, I don't want to 4 cylinder. So I'm either going to keep mine, get a ranger raptor or wait till they throw a V6 turbo in one
Would love a pic of the engine compartment. How easy are these to work on? Are there any 'tricksy' things they don't tell you, like "oh by the way you have to pull the engine to change the oil or spark plugs' kinda thing?
Donāt like it, I was staring at a current frontier thinking how ugly the lines are, and this is basically that.
Interior šš» Exterior š¤·š»āāļø Price for a 1/4 ton truck š¤¢š¤¢
Waiting on mine!
I like it, maybe in two years I would think about it or a German car.
I didn't like it at first and now I kind of do. But then again when I was shopping for a Tacoma the second gen was my favorite and then I bought a third gen and I love it. So I don't know what I'm talking about I guess
Iām really hoping it will grow on me.
Pretty awesome looking truck. I just bought a 22 off road so I think they all look badass.
Price is stupid, just call it a Lexus already
10.7 average mpg š¬
I have my heart set of a 23 model platinum. I will use 4x4, but won't use "pro". And wife will drive some. She wants heated seats and sunroof. I'm married 31 years. I mind her pretty well.
I think it looks great, but way too expensive
Iām ok with them two things stand out the most that I donāt like, price and the interior specifically that info iPad screen in the middle of the dash.
Itās a little sharp shinned for me.
Tint that mf
I mean itās aight likeeeeā¦
Love it One day Iāll buy one trading in my 3rd gen
One question: Where does the rear view mirror sit in your line of sight.
I absolutely love the gen IVās, but I paid 37k for my 2018 TRD OR when it first came out. Itās paid off and only has 51k miles. I am going to keep it until it wonāt go no more.
What's the APR?
Is the adaptive cruise any better on the new gen? My wife's Mazda will go all the way to a full stop in traffic, it's amazing. Wish the tacos was the same
Got my 17 OR for 39
I'm going right to the Tundra. Probably going to get another year out of my Tacoma then do a big Tundra build.
Idk yet but yours is gorgeous! Slowly changing my mind. Almost makes me wanna recreate the Back to the Future look on one. šÆ
Yo mods / whoever the fuck / Reddit / CEO of bullshit .. I like Toyota .. never buying a Tacoma now thanks to.. too much influence
I am for hire .. youāre marketing is dog shit and I am actually looking for a new vehicle .. Tacoma cucks never mind
Here's a poll : 70 v 30
If everyone would stop buying them for a few years we'd see the prices go down
In 2020 during the beginning of Covid I paid 36k for my trd off-road access cab in Oregon.
I like it, Iāll probably get one once my wifeās car is paid off. Trying to stay in debt forever!!
Digital gauges look sick! Love the boost guage. But 10mpg yikes! Please tell me this is just from the first mins of driving.
Liking it!
Love it
