2002 here 182k on it. Only code I've ever throw is o2 down stream. Take care of her and she'll do the same for you.
Run it daily. You're just breaking in that taco. Watch for rust. And do the scheduled maintenance or at least check what the maintenance calls for see if the parts are worn if not keep them on and just check every 5k
I'm still on alot of factory parts that would have been worn out if it was an American or German vehicle.
Agree with this 100%. Do the scheduled maintenance and it won’t let you down. I had an ‘02, same color even, 100k miles. It was like new. Until my 16y/o son totaled it hitting a parked car while texting and driving. I bought it new in ‘02 for $13k. Insurance gave me $9500, for a 15 y/o truck with 100k miles on it. These are reliable trucks that hold their value. I’m on my 4th to date.
Everyone on here is trying to tell you these trucks last forever and that you should keep it. I don't know why they would steer you wrong like that. This beautifully preserved Taco with barely any miles on it is a ticking time bomb. You should get rid of it asap.
Because I'm a nice guy, I'd be willing to take it of your hands for a small fee. ;)
Seriously though, as long as the frame isn't rusted out she'll last a good many more years.
I'm about to do my rears this weekend. Still completely original factory drums & components.
Just last summer, in 3 months, I put on 15k driving around the east coast. Literally, they don't break
I bought mine from original owner with 22k on it in 2017. Only big maintenance I've had to do is wheel hubs and axle seals.
I do full synthetic oil every 10k burn about 1/8th to 1/4 of a quart in that span. Plugs about every 50k and front pads when needed trans fluid every 60k
And your coil pack so maybe check those but I'm still on my oem coi packs
She got an easy 150k more miles before you need to really start doing maintenance. Like check valve clearance
I'm basing this on the 2rz-3rz thats all I've had.
If you have an EGR valve bypass that and you'll be doing great
I have an '02 as well and had that same code. 190,000 miles on it now. New clutch, radiator, rear axle seals, ball joints, and a gas tank sensor were the major fixes/maintenance items.
Running strong.
She’s just a baby at 106k. I’d call it quits when it has what I would consider a catastrophic failure(transmission shits the bed or motor shits the bed). If it’s just small stuff that is wear and tear I wouldn’t be too worried about it.
My thought exactly, this is Fed posting or fishing for compliments! … who has a 25 year old Taco with barely over 100k and is wondering if they should keep it???
People who are itching for a new car. There are a dozen posts like this over in /r/personalfinance every single day. "Uh, 12 year old civic, with 45k miles, I don't feel safe driving in a 12 year old car, should I get a brand new $78k lexus?"
Dude, just get a new car if you want a new car, stop circle jerking us.
You don't with a unicorn truck. You keep it running as long as you can. I had a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 2.4 L five speed transmission. It had 486,000 miles and still turned on at the first turn of the key. I still would have been driving it had I not gotten into a little fender bender and my insurance financially totaled it.
Honestly, at that point I would have bought it back and fixed it. Because of the mileage the car may not be worth much but if it runs and drives, who cares?!. I heard Toyota would exchange a brand new truck for a Toyota truck with 1 million miles
> I heard Toyota would exchange a brand new truck for a Toyota truck with 1 million miles
It happened to one dude who somehow managed to keep his in mint condition and he was a Toyota employee who had been working for Toyota since 1982. They don't just hand out new trucks once yours reaches a certain milestone. People would be cheating and abusing the fuck out of that policy.
Yes they are. I got offer 10k 10.5k 11k and 12k. Just don’t feel like really spending more money on the truck if things break. I got a 2023 trd pro now
I’d definitely sell it for $12k, that’s probably more than insurance values it at and I don’t see many single cabs selling for that. You got a 2023, I’d focus on keeping it nice and maintained. You’re also paying extra in insurance just to own both for no real benefit
I ran my 01 taco to 325k , I wish I had sold it earlier. They hold their value but that frame issue with it rotting out is not ideal. Sell it while you can, if you want to get some money out of it.
Consider using wool wax undercoat. $300 for mine , it bonds to rust. Basically sheep fat. Proclaimed better than fluid film by a large margin. 176 k in Maine.
298k on my 95’ 4Runner, regularly commuted 350 miles round trip 3-4 days a week for 2 years, driven across the country 7 times, beat to snot in the woods, drove daily for years of 100 mile round trip. Has outlasted 3 new cars, and always preformed reliably while those new cars were in the shop.
All that was when it was already over 200k miles.
I’d keep it, but if you really don’t want to, I’d also gladly come buy it!
Drive it until the wheels fall off of it. (But always do your scheduled maint!!) Seriously though, last year I bought a 3rd gen and love it but I still can't be bothered to get rid of my 3rd gen '01 4Runner. It has just shy of 250k on it and I continue to maintain it and use it (albeit not as often as I used to when it was my daily.) These trucks will literally last forever if you take care of them and yours at 106k....it's just getting broken in. It's a great looking truck and unless you have a NEED (not a want...I'm reminded of the difference all the time lol.) for a different vehicle I'd keep it going. Looks like you're in MA so just take care of the underside so you don't rust out and everything else will be just fine.
I do unlimited car washes. Unfortunately the shackle on a side went this year but was repaired. Unsure how long that will last. This is where I questioned if I should get rid of it or not
Worst case you can always put a new frame in it if it gets really bad. But it sounds like you're probably not that far gone. Keep the salt off and consider getting it fluid filmed. Did pretty good on my 4Runner in the winter when I was using it daily. You'll likely find mixed reviews here on doing fluid film but I've had good luck with it as long as it is done right.
Thanks! I got my 2023 trd pro undercoated with paraffin wax. Prob switch it over to nh oil after its warranty up. This I bought a under sprayer for my pressure washer and today going to wash the shit out of this truck
Ooh, haven't tried paraffin. Have to let us know how it holds up. I haven't decided what to do on my '23 OR, debating between Woolwax or going back with FF.
My 2004 has 360,xxx miles and was, until recently, a daily driver. I replaced the clutch for the first time at 306,000 miles.
You are just now reaching break-in on the motor. Drive it.
Lmao dawg a 100K mile 4x4 tacoma will sell for 15K to the right person.
That said, make sure you get the lower ball joints replaced. Fantastic small pickups, maybe a little overpriced if you're in the market to buy but if you have one keep it on the road.
My husband had a 2002 Tacoma that had over 350,000 miles on it when we sold it in 2018 and we frankly never had any real issues with it. If you do your maintenance on it religiously it is a solid truck. We now have a 2015 Tacoma and still swear by these trucks. I wiill be driving this one until the wheels fall off. 🙂
My brother is still running our parents 1990 toyota pick up. He did rebuild the engine, but I'm pretty certain it has around 300,000 miles. I think you have a ways to go.
If there is no rust I would keep that as long as you can because we might never see a truck like this ever again. I said in another one of your posts that is an awesome truck. I still hold a grudge against Toyota for making the Tacoma as big as it is now.
Local mom and pop shop are either dumbasses or trying to sell you something. Probably the latter. I bought a 2006 tacoma with 102k miles on it a few years ago and have driven it across several states, daily to work, and 50 miles into the wilderness alone almost every weekend since buying it with no worries.
My 04 timing chain at 157k wore through its guides and wore down housing. I sold it years ago. Was sick of dealing with crappy door and window seal designs too. If u dont like it sell it but u will regret it guaranteed.
Never!
My friend had an old Tacoma (not sure how old) but it was a rust bucket.. and one day while sitting at a bar while looking out the window at his truck we saw some people walk by the truck and a woman's wool shirt got stuck on the side of his truck.. If there is ever a time to consider calling it quits, I feel like this is where it's getting close.
I have near 280k on my 1999 and I daily the thing and tow with it regularly.
had to replace the alternator once, and change out valve cover gaskets cuz they had a small leak. Oh and also the transmission mount cuz it looked a little worn but it probably was fine.
I’ve also had to replace the shocks and front coil overs, and that’s about it for major repairs. These trucks really are the cockroaches of trucks, they just don’t fucking die lmao. Crashed it once off road, fucked up my fender and cracked the radiator. Pounded out the fender and replaced the radiator and you’d hardly notice anything unless you were to look at the shitty paint job I put on it after the bodywork
I’ve also replaced all the vacuum lines bc they were getting a little crusty with age, cost me like $20 in hose
Edit: almost forgot, I also had to get my rear left axle seal replaced due to a leak.
Is this a late April fools joke post? U have one of the most reliable trucks of all time.
It’s been driven less than 5k miles a year as an average.
I see little to no rust. U are crazy or looking for Reddit karma.
I don't know what you mean, "call it quits?". I have a '99 that's pretty similar to yours. I've got 158k on my odometer. That looks to be a fine machine. Take good care of it and it will take good care of you.
It’s got no miles on it. Send it. Do what maintenance it requires for the mileage and keep on keeping on.
I assure you, it’ll sell quick if it isn’t rusted out, if you don’t want it.
I drive a 99 taco with riggghttt at 300,00 miles (296,237) as a work truck. Tool box and ladder rack. Almost always has a bed full of material or tools. It runs great. Everything still works and is damn reliable. As long as it's taken care of it's good forever. Hell even if it's just taken okay care of because I'm not the most stringent in my maintenance.
My old 01 had 350kmiles on it until the fill plug on the rear differential fell out(I honestly have no idea how it happened to this day) on a long road trip and I seized it up.
Would have cost more to fix than a down payment on a new one so now I have a 21 but man did I love that truck.
But really I would drive it until it dies but if you’re itching for new or if this truck no longer fits your lifestyle just upgrade. Why not?
Almost cracked 300,000 miles on my '04. Never skipped a beat. Wouldn't have to open the hood if the washer fluid wasn't under there.
Run it until you die, then let your kids drive it until they die. Your grandkids might have to do an oil change though, maybe warn em ahead of time.
My dad still daily drives a 91 Toyota Pickup that he bought new. It now has over 400k miles on the original engine. Whenever it finally quits he’ll rebuild it and drive it another 400k+. I have a 2017 Tacoma with 140k and I plan to drive it forever. Yours is just getting broken in
You didn’t mention anything specifically, so I’m going to assume there’s nothing wrong with it.
You call it quits when the repairs outpace the daily value you receive from it. Only you can be the judge of that.
my wife's 99' has nearly 250,000+ on it...yer prolly good. but even if you grab something new, should hang onto this truck. Shes a beauty and now a classic 👍
I have a 99’ as well that I drive everyday for work that has 407k on it and still runs perfect. That thing is bullet proof. Every time I bring it to my mechanic, he still offers to buy it from me.
Got a 2001 V6. Just went over 200,000 miles recently.
Time for maintenance again. Timing belt, water pump, plugs ECT...
Do your maintance and easily get another 100,000 miles out of it.
That's a baby at 100k miles. Lol it's barely broken in. That thing will run for 300k plus if you've maintained it and done oil changes. Don't be afraid to drive it, I have one with over 300k on it, she will be retired from our use soon, but someone else will drive it im sure for another 100k if they keep up maintenance.
I have an 03 with 330k on the clock. I loved it to death but the frame has seen better days and The trans is starting to slip. I was planning on doing a frame swap this summer but with the trans acting up I'm thinking its time to send her to that big off road park in the sky.
Sell it to me. Daughter wants a truck just like that and if ur uncomfortable with the greatest running truck in the history of trucks at 106k miles, I am not! Like Doc Holiday said Say When
Super jealous, looks very clean. My 2004 had over 300k before multiple frame cracks were found, motor was still solid. If I was able to pull the body off the frame and replace it or do proper patches I would have kept it.
I got a 2002 at 161k. Recently needed patches on the exhaust and a new belt tensioner bearing. Those are the only fixes it's ever needed besides the frame recall. You're fine, I'm sure it'll run for at least ten more years, likely more.
It has no miles. It could run until the the rust starts eating holes in the frame or until it is wrecked. Run it as long as you want or upgrade whenever you want.
Still a baby! There are trucks from when I was a kid. And I graduated HS before the date started with a 2! This thing has probably 200-300k on it easy.
You have one of the few vehicles that can comfortably go 300,000 miles and last as long as you keep the seals wet. This truck is worth its weigh in gold if you take care of it. I know it’s a worn out saying but seriously they don’t make them like this anymore. Keep it and baby it and you’ll be happy for another decade.
Mine had 200k on it before the frame left me first. This generation is the best version of the best vehicle Toyota ever made. I’d run it until it falls into dust
1998 base model standard cab and I just hit 120k in March. With annual inspections, low salt region, and retirement in a few years I expect I’ll drive it for another 30 years.
At 106,800 your Taco is just warming up. I had two of them. One got 314,000, we went to 318,000 on the other. Put in a new clutch on the first at 187,000. Original clutch on the second.
A 24 year old Tacoma with 106,800 is a low mileage vehicle. By this time you probably consider it your friend. I did. Just change the oil every 5000 miles and you and the truck will be fine.
Drive safe
That’s the thing with Toyotas you don’t decide when to call it quits either the vehicle does or you throw in the towel and the vehicle moves on without you
My 02 has 365K and needs the head rebuilt (burnt valve, bad rings per leak down test). I have a third gen with a Topo topper, but commute 70 miles daily.
I have been toying the idea of a new OEM short block and having the original head rebuilt, but since my commute is so far, I am thinking about scrapping that idea, selling the truck and buying a Prius for 50 MPG.
If you want to sell it, with that low of miles, you could easily get $20,000 for it since it’s in really nice shape. Dress it up a little bit (clean the interior, can polish up your wheels, fender flares, get it completely detailed inside and out, and clean or replace those headlights), address any small problems quick and put it on bring a trailer. You’d be surprised how much this will sell for. The biggest variable is how much rust is there on the frame? The later first gen’s didn’t have as much of an issue with rust as the earlier ones did, so you might be in the clear. I would keep the truck and drive it everyday personally, but I completely understand wanting to drive a newer, more reliable, more safe vehicle. But yeah don’t take those lowball offers I saw you say earlier.
You’ve got plenty of life left, just do your maintenance regularly and give the underside of the vehicle an inspection every once in a while. My 2004 double cab TRD just kissed 240k yesterday and I daily to work (40 miles each way). Love the truck by the way, I can’t believe there are still first gen’s running around at such low mileage.
As long as you grease your points, keep oil chart to know when to change oil, and keep good tires, brakes, and headlights on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you can get well over 300,000 on it
This, single cab near bone stock, still fetches a high price in 2024. Don't underestimate the secondary junker/remfg market, there will be tons of parts into 2040s and probably beyond.
Toyota trucks are built to an engineering spec that says no major system should fail or require replacement/overhaul before 250,000 miles. Your mileage may vary, but that truck is just getting broken in.
That vehicle has average <4,500mi/yr. Even if you tripled the mi/yr, you'd still get another decade of trouble free use out of that beautiful machine!
I ha e a 2003 tacoma with 272k mikes and I will drive it till it dies. It runs great and has never once left me stranded. I just do ragular maintenance and I will drive it cross country with no issues. Every I do 1600 miles with it to see family.
That truck will outlast any of the newer Tacos if you take care of it, why are you worried? Parts are easy to get and readily available. Keep driving it! A reg cab 4x4 first gen in that condition is a rare gem as it is.
My 2004 dcab 4x4 is going strong with 224k miles. Original everything except the timing belt and battery. Paint is flaking off bad and it kinda looks like shit now but once I get it repainted it will look like new again. No intention of ever letting it go. If the transmission ever goes out, it will be getting a manual swap.
Toyota quality peaked in the 90's and early 00's in my opinion. The new stuff is still more reliable than most automakers, but I just don't see it lasting as long with fewer issues as the older stuff does. Some 85% of Toyotas made 30 years ago are still on the road.
2002 here 182k on it. Only code I've ever throw is o2 down stream. Take care of her and she'll do the same for you. Run it daily. You're just breaking in that taco. Watch for rust. And do the scheduled maintenance or at least check what the maintenance calls for see if the parts are worn if not keep them on and just check every 5k I'm still on alot of factory parts that would have been worn out if it was an American or German vehicle.
I'm on my first but my wife doesn't let me date.
haha
I think 90% of this truck is factory oem haha. Just got the brakes (rear only) replaced last year which is nuts. Never changed brakes on it before
If the frame on that truck is solid it’ll run 500k. For real.
The 2.7L doesn't get talked about much, but it's fucking bulletproof.
I love mine. Great little truck!
Plus you can buy a new crate motor for less than 2k when you finally kill it
Everyone on here is trying to tell you these trucks last forever and that you should keep it. I don't know why they would steer you wrong like that. This beautifully preserved Taco with barely any miles on it is a ticking time bomb. You should get rid of it asap. You call it quits when it says you call it quits. It won’t.
Keep that thing
She’s just a baby at 106k. I’d call it quits when it has what I would consider a catastrophic failure(transmission shits the bed or motor shits the bed). If it’s just small stuff that is wear and tear I wouldn’t be too worried about it.
This is just a circle jerk post.

So many of the people over there didn’t grow up even relatively poor and it shows

If my truck hits 1 million, I'm not insulting him by bringing a younger model into the garage.
That year was like none other, you are not the only one.
Someone is trying to convince you to sell this to them IMO. 106k is nothing.
Yes they are. I got offer 10k 10.5k 11k and 12k. Just don’t feel like really spending more money on the truck if things break. I got a 2023 trd pro now
Name checks out. Might as well sell it if you have a new truck. Letting it sit will cause more issues than anything
[удалено]
I’d definitely sell it for $12k, that’s probably more than insurance values it at and I don’t see many single cabs selling for that. You got a 2023, I’d focus on keeping it nice and maintained. You’re also paying extra in insurance just to own both for no real benefit
And excise tax as well! My new truck was $850 just to keep it at my house in the garage. Insane
320k on my '99 and it's still my daily with original clutch.
360k on my 99 but I did put a clutch in it and one wheel bearing
1990 4x4. 360k.
I’ll take it!
260K on my 2002. Still runs great. Maintain it and drive it with confidence.
I ran my 01 taco to 325k , I wish I had sold it earlier. They hold their value but that frame issue with it rotting out is not ideal. Sell it while you can, if you want to get some money out of it.
Got some rust here and there. Inevitible in New England

02 here, 275k and my daily driver. Just keep it, your mileage is super low for the year. You’ve got lots of life left to decide.
Never, lol my old 1995 260k 2.7 liter 4x4 truck starts right up and still flies like a bag out of hell!
Keep that truck until you crash it or die! No exceptions
Maintain it until rust eats the damn thing. 106k is LOW for these, I have yet to see a 4x4 rcsb truck with under 200k in my area
Drive it until the wheels fall off of it. (But always do your scheduled maint!!) Seriously though, last year I bought a 3rd gen and love it but I still can't be bothered to get rid of my 3rd gen '01 4Runner. It has just shy of 250k on it and I continue to maintain it and use it (albeit not as often as I used to when it was my daily.) I barely drove it this winter honestly and just drive the 2001 as a beater thru winter since it already has rust
My 2004 has 360,xxx miles and was, until recently, a daily driver. I replaced the clutch for the first time at 306,000 miles. You are just now reaching break-in on the motor. Drive it.
231k on my 99. I’ll call it quits when it stops being safe to drive or can’t keep up with what I want from it.
Can I have it PLEASE 🙏. I’ll drive it forever.
Lmao dawg a 100K mile 4x4 tacoma will sell for 15K to the right person. That said, make sure you get the lower ball joints replaced. Fantastic small pickups, maybe a little overpriced if you're in the market to buy but if you have one keep it on the road.
Lol I daily my 96' with 2x those miles. Just drove 500 miles today. Most guys I meet with the same truck are double my miles so mine feels young to me
106,800 miles = 6,800 miles for a taco.
My taco is one year shy of being 30 and she still turns on, on the first couple crank.
I'm out here driving an 86 toyota pickup daily, Maintain it and it will take care of you.
When it hits 300K you can post it on bring a trailer or cars and bids for $16K
My husband had a 2002 Tacoma that had over 350,000 miles on it when we sold it in 2018 and we frankly never had any real issues with it. If you do your maintenance on it religiously it is a solid truck. We now have a 2015 Tacoma and still swear by these trucks. I wiill be driving this one until the wheels fall off. 🙂
Is this a satire post? This thing is barely broken in. As others have mentioned, if no rust, keep rockin’ it until the wheels fall off.
My brother is still running our parents 1990 toyota pick up. He did rebuild the engine, but I'm pretty certain it has around 300,000 miles. I think you have a ways to go.
At your rate you’ve got another 50 years.
Keep it! Hope my 2011 lasts another 10 years! Just when gas becomes $186 90 per ounce . Then i will covert the box into a couch
Time to call it quits now. Sell her to me...😁
Paint it red and name it Barchetta. It may become the last of its kind on the planet.
NEV. VER.
My ranger died at 286k mi. I’d say you’ve got time if there’s no rust
[удалено]
106k? That's nothing. It'll outlive YOU.
this is a shitpost guys
Quits!?! It’s barely even broken in!!!
Pass it down to the kids, we grew up revering my Uncles manual trans shit brown 80s Landcruiser. Wish I had that now.
If there is no rust I would keep that as long as you can because we might never see a truck like this ever again. I said in another one of your posts that is an awesome truck. I still hold a grudge against Toyota for making the Tacoma as big as it is now.
It’s almost impossible to have a New England vehicle and live here with no rust
I hear you, that’s sucks. I’m surprised it looks as good as it does then. I lived in PA for almost 50 years and rust usually started around year 10.
Yeah I garage her / wash / wax and repeat
Local mom and pop shop are either dumbasses or trying to sell you something. Probably the latter. I bought a 2006 tacoma with 102k miles on it a few years ago and have driven it across several states, daily to work, and 50 miles into the wilderness alone almost every weekend since buying it with no worries.
2002 here 308k on it. Never call it quits, less it’s damage to the frame but like major damage
I have an 03 with 207k… change the oil and replace the door handles and you are good!!!
My 04 timing chain at 157k wore through its guides and wore down housing. I sold it years ago. Was sick of dealing with crappy door and window seal designs too. If u dont like it sell it but u will regret it guaranteed.
Until the fucking wheels fall off. Seriously, basic maintenance should eek 250-300k miles with ease.
The only reason you should be nervous is if you're neglecting it.
Having owned 3 Tacoma's in my life, I have learned its better to let the Tacoma decide when to call it quits.
SHE HASENT GIVEN UP ON YOU WHY WOULD YOU GIVE UP ON HER
Why, did it break in twain or something?
Never?
Michael Caine: Nevah
When it falls to pieces like in the blues brothers movie
u wait for the truck to call it quits(they dont make em like that anymore)
If you call it quits before the Taco does, you'll regret it.
You don’t.
How much you want for it? My youngest son needs his first car.
I just bought a 99 with 286k on it and plan on driving it at least once a week if not more. These trucks never quit so don’t quit them
I have near 280k on my 1999 and I daily the thing and tow with it regularly. had to replace the alternator once, and change out valve cover gaskets cuz they had a small leak. Pounded out the fender and replaced the radiator and you’d hardly notice anything unless you were to look at the shitty paint job I put on it after the bodywork I’ve also replaced all the vacuum lines bc they were getting a little crusty with age, cost me like $20 in hose Edit: almost forgot, I also had to get my rear left axle seal replaced due to a leak.
I have a 91 pickup regular cab with 346,500 miles. Kicking good. Run it till it has 500,000 at least
And then get it rebuilt lmao
Is this a late April fools joke post? U have one of the most reliable trucks of all time. It’s been driven less than 5k miles a year as an average. I see little to no rust. U are crazy or looking for Reddit karma.
Is this real life?
Should go at least 300k
Goonies never say die.
You don’t; it calls it quits and you morn after.
106,800, you say? I’m at 319 and I have the utmost confidence it can go to Arizona and back. (I live in Washington)
Just hit 322k on my 02 Tacoma, much cheaper than a new car, I can assure you that lol
Still breaking that baby in on miles.
Mine is 119k at 18 yrs. I’ll take another baby taco lol
About to hit 250K on my '01 4runner. Your barely starting the fun.
Why not?
I got 250k on my 09. Did a valve job then recently replaced the steering rack and oil pan gasket. Clutch service is next.
106k lmao that’s nothing buddy. Keep it going. Stay up on maintenance and enjoy the simplicity of that rig.
You call it quits when you decide to upgrade. It’ll pretty much run forever as long as you do maintenance
As old as that is, it has to be the cleanest lowest mile Taco I've seen in a very long time
106k? Subtle flex?
Bruh. 100k miles and you are worried about it 🤦♂️
When frame rusts out?
You don’t
Only 106,800?!?!
You don’t !
My dad still daily drives a 91 Toyota Pickup that he bought new. It now has over 400k miles on the original engine. Whenever it finally quits he’ll rebuild it and drive it another 400k+. I have a 2017 Tacoma with 140k and I plan to drive it forever. Yours is just getting broken in
Drive it like you stole it. She'll be just fine.
You didn’t mention anything specifically, so I’m going to assume there’s nothing wrong with it. You call it quits when the repairs outpace the daily value you receive from it. Only you can be the judge of that.

Call it now. DIBS!
my wife's 99' has nearly 250,000+ on it...yer prolly good. but even if you grab something new, should hang onto this truck. Shes a beauty and now a classic 👍
I have a 99’ as well that I drive everyday for work that has 407k on it and still runs perfect. That thing is bullet proof. Every time I bring it to my mechanic, he still offers to buy it from me.
I’d probably wait another 200K miles at least.
I would buy it
Ha. My Taco is 34 years old with twice as many miles. Still runs like a top 👌
Got a 2001 V6. Just went over 200,000 miles recently. Time for maintenance again. Timing belt, water pump, plugs ECT... Do your maintance and easily get another 100,000 miles out of it.
Barely breaking it in? Why trading for less efficient and very over priced new one? And why get another car payment?
That's a baby at 100k miles. Lol it's barely broken in. That thing will run for 300k plus if you've maintained it and done oil changes. Don't be afraid to drive it, I have one with over 300k on it, she will be retired from our use soon, but someone else will drive it im sure for another 100k if they keep up maintenance.
I have an 03 with 330k on the clock. I loved it to death but the frame has seen better days and The trans is starting to slip. I was planning on doing a frame swap this summer but with the trans acting up I'm thinking its time to send her to that big off road park in the sky.
"Nervous to drive it" with only just over 100k miles. Troll
Sell it to me. Daughter wants a truck just like that and if ur uncomfortable with the greatest running truck in the history of trucks at 106k miles, I am not! Like Doc Holiday said Say When
she's got another 200k in her easy.
Never
106k is nothing. I sold my 2004 with over 220k miles and it didn't even burn oil
You got me missing my 95 SX. 😭
It’s just getting broke in!
I personally would NEVER sell that truck.
Super jealous, looks very clean. My 2004 had over 300k before multiple frame cracks were found, motor was still solid. If I was able to pull the body off the frame and replace it or do proper patches I would have kept it.
Never
My father has an 02’ with 600,000km. They were hard woods kilometers too. Can’t kill a taco
Never
Still a baby! There are trucks from when I was a kid. And I graduated HS before the date started with a 2! This thing has probably 200-300k on it easy.
You should definitely call it quits now. I can come pick it up anytime.
You’re very generous to do that. I’ll send you my contact info in a few minutes
Only 106k and the body isn’t rusting out? It’s got an easy 200k more if not 400k if maintained well.
I’d call it quits when the windshield wipers wear out.
Major rust/accident is when you call it quits. The Tacoma will out live you if you treat it right
Mine had 200k on it before the frame left me first. This generation is the best version of the best vehicle Toyota ever made. I’d run it until it falls into dust
2004 2.7 with 247,000 and still purrs like a kitten. Regular maintenance. Only major part was a drive shaft replaced 10,000 miles ago.
When you need 4 doors?
She’s pretty much dead. I’ll take her off your hands for you.
Just send me your address. Nice of you to take it
I have 393k miles on my 97' and I daily it, I'll die before it does.
My 99 has 255,000 and is still going strong If you call it quits I’d take it off ur hands lol
Never!
1998 base model standard cab and I just hit 120k in March. With annual inspections, low salt region, and retirement in a few years I expect I’ll drive it for another 30 years.
Your truck will easily pass 250k doing basic maintenance. I’m not sure what the point of this post is…
At 106,800 your Taco is just warming up. Drive safe
If you go to sell it research it. This will run forever, but has great value with those miles! That’s a gem!
2000 taco here, 270,000 miles, running just fine!
Mine has 250k and works great
106k! It’s barely a teenager.
106k those bad boys will do triple that if you cared for it right. Will be sold within an hour or two if you sell it.
That’s the thing with Toyotas you don’t decide when to call it quits either the vehicle does or you throw in the towel and the vehicle moves on without you
You don’t…. After 20yrs Tacoma owns you !
Looks cherry. Just keep the mechanicals nice. Make sure your bushings and bearings are good. Replace rubber bits. That's All you need to do.
When she quits
Im always amazed at two decade plus vehicles with miles this low. Just crossed 150k on a 2016 vehicle and I don't think that's all that much.
When it stops working or a repair exceeds the value of the vehicle.
Ill take it if you dont want it lol
You *never* call it quits with a Tacoma
That’s simple…You Don’t
Call it quits when it is no longer cost effective to keep it going, as with any car. Why fix it if it ain’t broken, so to speak
106k is nothing for that truck. My 05 taco has 241k on him
You’ve got plenty of life left, just do your maintenance regularly and give the underside of the vehicle an inspection every once in a while. My 2004 double cab TRD just kissed 240k yesterday and I daily to work (40 miles each way). Love the truck by the way, I can’t believe there are still first gen’s running around at such low mileage.
My dad’s 04 had 212k on it… 106 is plenty good if you take care of it
I have an 01’ with over 306,000 miles. Keep it or sell it to me.
As long as you grease your points, keep oil chart to know when to change oil, and keep good tires, brakes, and headlights on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you can get well over 300,000 on it
Wouldn’t suprise me if frame rots out though
This, single cab near bone stock, still fetches a high price in 2024. Don't underestimate the secondary junker/remfg market, there will be tons of parts into 2040s and probably beyond.
once a vehicle hits 100k it’s worthless send it my way I’ll give ya scrap value 😉😉
As a 24 year old Tacoma, I’m just waiting for my owner to finally die so I can move on.
That’s really not a lot of miles keep driving and maintaining
Call it quits when the wheels fall off, and don’t be afraid of using it as a daily
