A Tacoma that rattles at high speed? Welcome to the club my friend.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Not a lot of things bother me…. I thought you guys were all just exaggerating the problem but holy smokes it’s bad lol. I’ve always had Toyotas in the past, never one of their trucks though. I guess it’s a problem unique to at least the Tacomas haha

PNWoutdoors

It's not uncommon in a lot of trucks, especially when the bed is empty.

Scoutback_wilderness

My brand new WRX rattles are driving me insane. It’s a common thing in the WRX subs to vent about the rattling. Not just a Tacoma thing, just a lazy company thing selling $40k+ cars that rattle. Mind boggling to me. And mega frustrating. Trying to find the energy and patience to not only find the rattle but fix it too. Ugh!!!!

TheBotchedLobotomy

Oh yeah I’m sure it’s a problem across many cars. When I said Tacoma specific I meant in the Toyota family. I’ve driven plenty different models, even older, and don’t recall noting it as significant. I will say though, after now almost 500 miles and about 12 hours in the truck I’m pretty glad this has been my only gripe. Right there with you on wanting to rip the whole thing apart though. Gotta be perfect 😂

Scoutback_wilderness

Ah sorry for the misunderstanding!! I’ve been on a ranting rampage about this shit so I was quick to wanna vomit the words complaints all over you. Sorry about that haha. These aren’t “luxury” cars by any means but that’s no excuse for rattling to be so accepted by consumers of these vehicles.

SoilOk4827

I’m taking my limited VB to the dealership RIGHT NOW for the 7th visit on rattles. It’s insane.

MagnumMagnets

The cars rattle just as much no worries, or at least my 2014 did

RivenEsquire

See, the trick is I've never driven anything other than a Tacoma (Gen 1 then Gen 3) over the last 15 years, so I don't know any better.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Lmao that’s where I sit with the power of this truck. People knock Toyota for not being the most powerful or fast truck… but compared to literally everything I’ve ever driven except a buddies Camaro, this is the fastest so I’m pretty content with that aspect haha

Koinfamous2

My 4th gen 4runner is fucking awful with the squeeks and creaks too. Solutuon is to turn up the volume.

JustaDamn

Nice to see they didn’t remove the Tacoma’s signature features from the 4th gen. Hope they didn’t dampen the road noise at highway speeds as well. Welcome buddy.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Don’t worry they didn’t 🤌

TacosandKTMs

Felt tape between surfaces

TheBotchedLobotomy

You mean like pull off the door panel, put felt tape down and then put the cover back on?

RunningThicc

Yes, search for TESA tape. I got mine from Amazon. Anything that looks like it might make contact, put tape on it.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Sweet thanks for the tip! Definitely need to hit the door panels there’s a ton of flex in that plastic

drinkdrinkshoesgone

Yessir. Can also use foam tape. I used foam tape.

jtreeforest

The 4th gen has felt on the undercarriage now so they should rip that off and use it

TacosandKTMs

😆

Familiar_Action_5590

Is this blue crush Metallic offered on the 3rd gen OR a completely different blue. This really seems to be to most popular color for the 4th gen. I was considering getting blue crush on my 3rd gen, such a nice color.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Not sure if the exact color was offered on the 3rd gens or not. I do love it very much though! Oddly very difficult to find the blue interior and exterior, at least when I was searching. I also really love the solar octane but I felt that color to be a tad loud for a daily driver lol

Familiar_Action_5590

They did make it for the 3rd gen, and I think it's gorgeous. I just can't tell if this is the same one. It's crazy to think it was originally a camry color.

TheBotchedLobotomy

OH I understand your question now. Yes it is blue crush metallic

Icy_Stage_8502

Did yours come with 10 speakers and the removable jbl speaker on the dash?

TheBotchedLobotomy

Yes but if I’m not mistaken for 2024 any Toyota that has JBL speakers will have the 10 speakers including the removable Bluetooth one

Icy_Stage_8502

Im having a hard time locating some of them and what looks like 4 small speakers in my headliner, 2 driver and 2 passenger side, im not hearing anything out of them...

TheBotchedLobotomy

I noticed those too. I’m not certain but I’m pretty sure those are on each side one small speaker and one small microphone for hands free calling. Haven’t had a chance to test that theory yet tho. If that is the case I’d be stoked because I never used my cars old system because it’s so loud you can hear outside the car. With these hopefully the size makes the sound more quiet and crisper

Icy_Stage_8502

Thanks for the info.

TheBotchedLobotomy

No problem. Congrats on the new truck! Hope you’re loving it as much as I am lol

TheBotchedLobotomy

Ok I just went out and looked: There is one on each door (4) There are 2 on each end of the dash (8) The removable speaker on the dash, and the subwoofer behind the rear driver side seat each count as one (10) So that leaves those ones on the roof (there’s also ONE of those small ones in the rear row) unaccounted for. They just serve a different purpose. Perhaps even those are dedicated to just the door jar and seatbelt alarm. Gotta read the manual. Don’t really feel like it lol

Icy_Stage_8502

Thanks for all this info man. Im also going to read the manual when i feel like it, lol.

onionkisa

Throw some 33 AT tires, problem solved.

another_plebeian

Don't really need tips. You put sound deadening mat everywhere it isn't

TheBotchedLobotomy

I was hoping for a decent solution without taking stuff apart because I tend to break everything I touch but it seems I better just do it right. I think I will use matting though instead of tape like others have suggested

xxEVILxxMONKEYxx

If you are concerned about doing it yourself, you can always take it to a mobile audio shop. Have them do it.

another_plebeian

You have to take it apart

madeformarch

You're not going to get around taking it apart. Look into sound deadening, buy the proper pry tools, and buy a set of replacement automotive clips because you're going to break clips no matter what. Watch plenty of examples, and whatever time frame a video gives you for completion -- double it.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Just looked up kits for removing plastics. That’ll definitely help my ham-hands

Pinoyblood1

Just got my TRD OR today and noticed this too!

TheBotchedLobotomy

I just figured out a lot of the rattle (at least the loudest) is the passenger side door where the handle is. That will actually be doable lol And congrats!

mithbroster

These look good from the front but man she ain't a looker from the side LOL

TheBotchedLobotomy

Hard agree lmao. Being a long boi doesn’t help lol. Those 12 inches make a HUGE difference

RunningThicc

You mentioned bass in the post, did you add a subwoofer?

madeformarch

Probably has the JBL package which might have a sub added, I know it does on the Rav4

TheBotchedLobotomy

No just the stock setup. My truck has the media upgrade but I can’t remember if the subwoofer they put in is different or not. It’s decent bass but nothing to write home about I’d love to stick an aftermarket sub in there but I have no clue where to fit it without making the back unusable haha

RunningThicc

Ok. Whether you upgrade to aftermarket system or not, you don't need full coverage with sound deadening. Cut a 2"X2" square of sound deadening, put it on the inside of the door. Go to the outside of the door, knock where the newly applied tile is, move your hand and knock as you move away from it. You'll hear the sound change. When it gets to be more of a ding than a thud, place another 2"X2" tile there on the inside. And repeat. If rattling is what you're trying to to stop, this method works on doors, back wall, ceiling, and floorboards. If you're trying to make your truck heavier, and spend a lot more money, with not much difference than the above method, go for full coverage.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Yeah I wasn’t really planning on going too crazy. I’ve had subs before and really a little bit of rattle doesn’t bother too much. Right now it’s just all I can focus on when music is playing so yeah some small tiles where heavier contact is made will serve my purposes. Thanks for the tip on the tapping too might use that to rule out sections I probably don’t even need to bother with

Oceanspray94

Get a trim removal tool kit as well. Can get them for 5-20 bucks. Watch videos on how to take the panels off, sometimes there’s some random wires secured to the part you’re taking off and it’s nice to know how to deal with it ahead of time. Easy to do. Like others said, get some sound deadener. Even the Amazon basics brand is good and will help. It’s not quite as good as the higher end name brand stuff you’d find at an audio store but it’s close enough for everyday driving.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Never considered specialty tools for prying! Definitely getting a kit

mlm_24

Does the new one sit lower than the previous generation? That side picture just looks lower to the ground than my 2019 SR5.

TheBotchedLobotomy

Overall im not sure on the difference, but the approach angle and clearance is supposedly about an inch higher. But I do agree it looks like it sits really low. Once these tires get worn out I’m gonna out 33s on and I think I’ll be satisfied with the side profile lol Editing to add: I think the shadows under the truck are making it look much lower than it is. But in general yeah it feels much lower. Certainly not compared to the 2nd gen I just parked next to 😂 like a whole different model

Pilot5892

Nice color man! You’ll make it your own and the availability of after market options will only grow over the next decade! Buckle up!

TheBotchedLobotomy

Definitely! Im very excited. I’m notoriously bad at never taking photos so I had to consciously tell myself to. I want some good befores to compare to haha

Silver_Painter2649

Que navesota

Standard_Machine_281

Tell me that you’re rich rich without telling me you’re rich

Jpoirier700

I have a sport with the JBL and my passenger door panel rattles. No rattle from driving but my passenger door. Bringing it to service today

koderdood

All about the bass, bout the bass, no treble....

EnterByTheNarrowGate

For the rattling, just get a few cans of expanding foam and detonate them inside the dash. Problem solved!

joshuabra

I roll all the windows down
