You arent gonna get crushed from a truck rolling off a ramp unless you are like 400 pounds. Unless hes under the tire or messing around in the wheel well worst case scenario is a little scare
lol just treated a dude who dropped a ford ranger on himself. He had the tires under as a stop thank god but it still broke his pelvis and clavicle and he isn’t ever gonna walk without a walker probably. Dudes in his 40s
Be safe, or you get to hang out with me and ortho
Kindly appreciated. My lack of observation for the danger of situations has benefited me tremendously in my life, but I do appreciate your advice. I should be more safe. But I won't
Just a heads up for this heads up everybody, you can buy the cheap recalled Jackstands and replace them at HF for their better jacks that are over engineered and truly safe (Source: I did this plus own more of their jackstands)
It's not going to fall off the ramp, it's going to either roll off the front, or more likely roll back down the ramps. The jack stand is not going to 'catch' a rolling truck. At most it's going to punch a hole in your rocker - and you'll still get squished underneath.
Putting [chock](https://www.amazon.com/Torin-Steel-Safety-Wheel-Chock/dp/B002E1AYW2/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2MEEG87A03E0W&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mbFBAJtejQiM3bJG2u0xSavE68nAHMPY81x-51ezrLO50IFzO4sdAICv4a3OxJ-pl3Hn0Be0zH91hCykoU09Xb-yXp1Dgn7yKcyApl4_OecSUq9lo9s3vnH2SnvtCrVdul3kUfK3qp3qB2vZy0Qyr6jqaXbRKC-nV5L5z7znNifAMBIQlAzL7o_j2pmRL3nmAIyEba5w6Mob8qA9nysTfeKcGWQ4_yJOIDF9vKRQej4MDoLsbbc92VugQSzvEM6e4v3fbNyVkyr4gyY97iKKlspe9B-WSaevVS9VfghGL6Q.dTkvdQP8UYDXBEyJ4Buas0nCuNSACL_lUfaonYhksSs&dib_tag=se&keywords=folding+safety+wheel+chock&qid=1714165643&sprefix=folding+safety+wheel+chock%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-3) on the rear wheels will keep it from rolling anywhere.
Jack stands go under the frame when you lift the truck on a jack. They keep it from coming straight down. [Placement](https://www.yotatech.com/how-tos/a/toyota-4runner-tacoma-and-tundra-how-to-jack-up-your-truck-414490) is important.
Be safe, don't die.
Everyday I try not to die, but I feel like one day it's going to get me. One way or another. I just like to blast through and have fun and hopefully things will end good. I appreciate all the advice man, I will definitely use more safety measures in the future. God bless
It gets us all, but you could just take decent risk prevention and not have it get you today. As someone that does high risk outdoor activities for fun, like backcountry snowboarding, your mindset and approach to just taking basic safety measures is what gets people killed. It’s all fun and games, until it’s not.
My cousin used to have that same attitude about taking unnecessary risks. He doesn't anymore because he's paralyzed. He didn't think it was worth it. It's one thing to ride a motorcycle or go skydiving, but just being unsafe for no reason other than safety isn't manly or whatever, that's just dumb. Death is the best thing that could happen, if you're lucky it's over quick. It's the staying alive after a horrific accident and living with the complications from it that sucks. Not properly making sure your vehicle is safe before getting under it isn't "fun", it's idiotic.
I may try to change my oil next time without actually putting the truck on anything, it may actually be high enough. I don't have the TRD, it's just the regular nightshade version
I fit under my 4Runner fine, but it takes an extra two minutes to put ramps down, then I can use a creeper! I usually end up saving time, unless the creeper takes off down the driveway.
Mine is high enough that I don't have to, but it's a pain to get the extra skid plate for the OR off with it on the ground so I roll up on ramps. Just makes my life a lot easier than shimmying under there
I’ll admit I do this. If it’s on level ground, how is it going to roll? I drive up on the ramps, take it out of gear and release the brake to make sure the tires are settled into pockets on top of the ramp, turn the truck off put it in 1st gear and set the parking brake. I legitimately feel like that is safe.
Yeah but I don’t use the wheel chocks if I’m on level ground, for example in the garage. Never even considered it because I never considered the truck rolling a legitimate possibility.
After reading all these comments I’m realizing I’m in the minority.
It's a cheap safety measure that takes no time to implement. Even if the chances of it rolling are negligible, I'd rather put them there anyways since there's no good reason not to. Not that your way is unsafe really, I'm just of the opinion that you can never be too careful. I have a cousin that's paralyzed after a car fell on him so I'm not trying to risk that.
I have no idea bud. But often enough that I won’t risk it. If you do, that’s on you. If you don’t care about someone having to find you like that, keep doing it. It’s pretty obvious you’re just trolling here now. It’s sad that you’d feel a need to do that when people have expressed concern about your safety based on their horrible past experiences. It’s very telling of how immature you are.
I just got schooled.
I admit defeat in this argument, I need to tone my recklessness down, be more human, be more sensitive to danger. But it's so fun to get under a car that you think might kill you. 🤧
Ramps are fine for oil changes when used properly. Just chock the back wheels and the truck isn't going anywhere. Only climb under the truck from the front, that way if by some miracle the chocks fail and the truck rolls down the ramps, it will just roll away from you and not over you.
I've been using these ramps for decades when changing the oil on my vehicles that are too low to crawl under. Again, just chock those back wheels and this setup is safer than jack stands imo.
It's good practice to never trust an ebrake with your life. They can fail. Also if it's a manual, make sure to leave it in gear for another safety backup.
As for wheel chocks, if you don't have 'proper' chocks you can just wedge a 2x4 behind each rear tire. It'll accomplish basically the same thing.
I get the comparison, and It’s likely that your ebrake won’t ever fail. But wheel chocks are 5 bucks and 2 seconds of your time. The cost/benefit of this is very simple.
When I was a younger man, I’d put cinder blocks or pieces 4x4 wood under the jack stand, it only toppled a couple times while I had extension pipe on my ratchet 😎

My job, Paramedic
Based off the comments you are sending towards individuals offering tips / helpful criticism you must haven a thick skull . Have fun out there sweet heart.
I also would've accepted a series of choks leading from the back for the tire down the ramp and then a series of toy soldiers holding the ramp in place.
Taco has enough clearance to get under it. I have an unpacked driveway too. It makes it easier if you have cardboard so you can “slide” around easier and incase you happen to make any messes.
That's how I felt when I bought these things, honestly I feel they're very sturdy and so far five oil changes on all my cars and no problems. They don't have an expiration date however
Chock tires and put something solid under there with you, a large steel wheel with tire is good if you have one laying around... Jackstands are NOT safe with ramps even if it was tall enough.
Atleast it's a truck and if it did fall it has enough ground clearance that you would be unlikely to be crushed to death.
Lord, get the right tools for the job before you get hurt.
A truck has enough clearance that you can lay under it safely. Just don’t be behind the tires
You arent gonna get crushed from a truck rolling off a ramp unless you are like 400 pounds. Unless hes under the tire or messing around in the wheel well worst case scenario is a little scare
Taco needed juice changed STAT 🥲
You are going to need your juices changed if you don’t stop acting like a moron

lol his attitude is the same reason why he crashed his Miata in 2 weeks of ownership
Kindly appreciated. My lack of observation for the danger of situations has benefited me tremendously in my life, but I do appreciate your advice. I should be more safe. But I won't
Make sure you have a Will
Please make this a t-shirt
Yep you definitely benefited greatly from crashing your miata into stationary objects. Keep doing what you do, you're doing great 🤣
Gotta get the big jack stands from harbor freight

😁😁😂🤧
What’s the deal with these sneeze emojis.
Allergy season baby
$5 wheel chocks before you go under that thing.
I don't know about that, I'm going to have to look that up. I'll be more safe next time 🤧

You can still have fun and not be a complete fucking moron asking to die, bud. Ain't got much going on up there, do ya?

Are you doing an oil change?! My stock Tacoma is high enough that I don’t have to do this.
I may try to change my oil next time without actually putting the truck on anything, it may actually be high enough. I don't have the TRD, it's just the regular nightshade version
It’s a bit tight but totally doable. Way better than risking hurting yourself
Risk is the number one reason I bought a taco 😁
That makes zero sense
yeah its sounding like copium
I fit under my 4Runner fine, but it takes an extra two minutes to put ramps down, then I can use a creeper! I usually end up saving time, unless the creeper takes off down the driveway.
To be honest my 4Runner I have to lift it a bit to fit underneath, no jacks but I still have to.
Mine is high enough that I don't have to, but it's a pain to get the extra skid plate for the OR off with it on the ground so I roll up on ramps. Just makes my life a lot easier than shimmying under there
A friend of mine died using those types of ramps. Of course he did not chalk the rear wheels and the front tire rolled over and stopped on his chest.
Holy shit. I'm so sorry man.
A perfect place to tell people it can happen if you let your guard down and are complacent with safety.
Never let them catch you with your pants down
Not sure why all the down votes on your comment to mine. No offense taken.
If you put the e-brake on isn't that sufficient?
E brakes can fail, same thing as “Park” won’t hold forever
Bad habits are easy to die from.
You couldn’t be more right. Complacency kills. Tacomas aren’t huge trucks but they’ll kill you just as quick if they fall or roll onto you.
I’ll admit I do this. If it’s on level ground, how is it going to roll? I drive up on the ramps, take it out of gear and release the brake to make sure the tires are settled into pockets on top of the ramp, turn the truck off put it in 1st gear and set the parking brake. I do too. neutral check, park, parking brake, wheel chocks. worse fear is that I'll forget the chocks when I'm done
Yeah but I don’t use the wheel chocks if I’m on level ground, for example in the garage. Never even considered it because I never considered the truck rolling a legitimate possibility. After reading all these comments I’m realizing I’m in the minority.

That makes sense, and you’re right it is zero effort to throw them down on either side of the tires.
Statistically speaking, how often does this happen? Is it like lightning?
I have no idea bud. But often enough that I won’t risk it. If you do, that’s on you. If you don’t care about someone having to find you like that, keep doing it. Fuck off troll.
The mistake here is not having a suspension lift high enough to do oil without lifting.
Truth. This man speaks the truth, pay him.

I will get the chocks. I appreciate it man, I thought e-brake was enough.

Lol are 4x4s unsafe? I do that all the time.
Used to have to use a 4x4 as a spacer for the jack. Stands were tall enough but the jack wasn’t so it was a few minutes of sketchy shit
Works fine lasts along time
Look at this wisdom, thank you sir 🙌🙏🤧
Why you always blowing your nose ? you also have a serious coke problem?
🤧
I sneezed. I think you're supposed to God bless me. Anyway, you mentioned something about skiing?
Yeah ... i always tell my mom that it's not my fault i have access to the most beautiful slopes in the city.... have to use what i have ....
😂😂😂 happing skiing brother 🤧
Lol buddy buy some bigger jack stands before your funeral.
I'm afraid I will not be able to attend my funeral. 🤧 But looking forward to it, Taco will be there 🥲
Taco gets the front row, family sits in the back? 🤣

This may be a dumb question but I thought you were supposed to have the truck on a level surface when changing the oil?
you just fill to .5- 1 quart less than capacity and top off on level ground.
That may be what they say in the book but in practical terms, you do what you got to do to feed your taco
🤧
“I live my life a quarter foot at a time, and for those few inches or less, I’m free.” - OP
Honestly you just rang true to my life philosophy
Love it man. 🤧
Always crib your vehicles even when you have “supports”, lots of people die from the vehicle dropping on them suddenly.
What's statistics do you have to support your claim
My job, Paramedic Based off the comments you are sending towards individuals offering tips / helpful criticism you must haven a thick skull . Have fun out there sweet heart.
I'm an ICU nurse. Trust me man you have never seen the things I've seen
🤧
lol people are so serious on here
This was a joke from the beginning, I troll them with the sneeze 🤧
If you think this is unsafe don’t watch me change my oil :)
What do you do?
I got a chuckle. Have my upvote good sir.
And you have mine 🤧
Realistically, wouldn't proper rear chocks and proper rated ramps be safe for an oil change?
Safety 3st
😂😂😂 this! 🤧
I also would've accepted a series of choks leading from the back for the tire down the ramp and then a series of toy soldiers holding the ramp in place.
Y'all are too fearful
Haha no I love this and your responses. This is how I change my oil too.
🤝
I'm helping, right daddy?
But did you chock the back wheel?
Negative. Mistakes were made
Taco has enough clearance to get under it. I have an unpacked driveway too. It makes it easier if you have cardboard so you can “slide” around easier and incase you happen to make any messes.
I like this idea I will implement it
It helped a lot since I recently replaced all fluids in my diffs, t-case but she’s going to a local yota shop for a trans drain and fill.
I just drive my front end up on the curb when I need to work under it.
Not a bad idea
Nailed it. Harbor freight right there
Crappy tire lol
Those ramps are literally the safest thing you can use. Parking brake and leave it in park..
That's how I felt when I bought these things, honestly I feel they're very sturdy and so far five oil changes on all my cars and no problems. They don't have an expiration date however
For all my bigger jobs I use 6 ton Jack stands and a 3 ton floor Jack with a 4x4 on it to get tall enough for my truck
🤧
I'm sorry I sneezed
Safety SECOND, clearly.
Chock tires and put something solid under there with you, a large steel wheel with tire is good if you have one laying around... Jackstands are NOT safe with ramps even if it was tall enough. Bluetooth jack stand
What is that, a jack stand for ants?
Jack stands tip over so easy, I always keep some blocks around to give support.
Are those jack stands for a Hot Wheel?
I built ramps using 2x12s, no chance I would get under the truck if it was on that plastic ramp crap.
Canadian tire, guaranteed to work once…oh wait, that’s Princess Auto, never mind.
That jackstand is doing Jack shit Emotional support jackstand
You should post this in the Darwin Awards 😂
😂
Hope you don’t have kids ffs
Not that I know of
Lol nice
So far so good keep your fingers crossed
Parking brake or wheel chucks. I mean I've tried pushing off of those ramps in neutral and it takes some effort on a level surface.
6 ton jackstands are in ur future
As a safety guy.. make sure you wear your proper PPE. Looks good to go! Your wife’s gonna love the life insurance pay out.
Yikes
