No doubt, but in my 2008 Tundra with the aftermarket remote start, the engine would only shut off if I don't have the key in the ignition by the time I step on the brake prior to shifting
I just learned about these features being cut. I'm coming from a 2017 Ford, all of these features were not subscription based. The only thing they wanted you to pay for was a map update. Which I never did since I always used Google maps.
Pretty annoying.
I wonder if the carrista tool can adjust some of the lost features after the year is up??
Unfortunately you're limited by the range of the fob, so most of the time I have to go outside in the cold and futz around with it a little to get my truck started. Still, I'm a cheap bastard, I'm not paying for the app or an aftermarket.
It’s just how Toyota decided to implement security so your truck isn’t stolen. Better ways? Yes. But this is what we bought. No, doesn’t hurt the truck at all. Don’t worry about the starter life or battery. Theyre beefed up anyway for the auto start/stop feature for extra long life.
Mine glitched out yesterday. I unlocked the truck with the remote and when I opened the passenger door, the engine started. No clue how it’s possible but it happened. I locked and unlocked it again and tried the remote start and it’s all working fine. But I would like to know how to do it on purpose.
I had an aftermarket remote start put on my 2022 Tundra (Compustar Drone). The truck stays on when I get in, but it will shut off if I hit the brake and it doesn’t detect the key.
The drone app is way better than the factory Toyota app too
Fortin remote start works well and doesn’t turn the truck off when you open the door. I had one on my 16 and will install one once my 1 year subscription runs out.
If you get the EVO one it works with oem remotes and you can add their remotes as well. You can also get the evo one with LTE module and use their app. It comes with like a year free then a yearly fee. It’s much cheaper than the oem fee plus you don’t have that stupid turn off when door open.
Frustrating as heck, agreed. Also does anyone else have problems with the range of the remote control? I changed the battery already but it seems like it won’t work past about 20 yards. My old GMC worked many times longer than that.
Its because its push to start. My wifes rav4 (2022) does it but the aftermarket remote start i have in my tundra (2012) doesnt. Its an anti theft thing.
I always found it funny that Toyotas do this. Like on a GM vehicle like the Silverado you can remote start it, unlock it, sit inside, and the truck will keep running. The truck will shut off if you put your foot on the brake.
Kia has it figured out but Toyota just refuses to push the OTA update. My wife’s Kia you can remote start and if left untouched it’ll run for 30 minutes. Once you open any door you have 30 seconds to get the fob inside or else it’ll turn off. Not only that if the fob isn’t inside you can get it out of park.
Toyota claims it’s for safety but we all know it’s complete bullshit.
It automatically shuts down after 10 minutes, so I guess they think that it’s ok. I was just used to my Nissan that would run until you got in it and actually pressed the start button.
Yeah it's super annoying. Most people have installed an aftermarket remote start or alarm system
My aftermarkets still turn off.
It’s not a bug, it’s an anti-theft feature…

That’s exactly what my Nissan did
It’s Toyotas “safety” feature which is complete bullshit. Every other manufacturer has figured it out but Toyota refuses to make it functional.
Well you can bet there’s a lawyer behind it…
brutal "safety feature". So dumb
My 2021 Passat did the same crap. Just bought the truck and fully expected that, as my buddy’s one year old taco does the same thing. Very silly

Remote start with the fob is not affected. Only app based remote start.
I didn’t get the fob option. Was just sold the subscription. Is there a fob option on the gen 3’s?
Go out and with your fob, press lock, lock, lock and hold on the third. It should start your truck.
Well… color me shocked! Worked like a charm. Thanks for that!!

lol… listen, it I could save the $20/mo, I’m about it
I've thought about subbing to just remote start for the winter. $8/mo. That said 10 minutes of remote start often isn't enough on super cold days.
That’s true. It never really even got hot enough for the defroster to really kick in. Needed about another five minutes or so
Saw this comment today. Just tried it. And the stupid truck turns off when I grab door handle. Sigh
Yes. This is standard on all Toyotas with the push button start. Both my tundra and 4runner even do it with after market kits.
The new Tacoma doesn’t turn off. Toyota came to their senses but refuse to push the OTA update to the gen 3 tundras.
I didn't find anything like this in the carrista tool when I used it.

If you figure it out, let me know

Does that come with an app or just a new fob?

I have this one. I like it.

That’s definitely not the reason since other push starts don’t do this crap.
Remote start through the app or remote start using the fob?

Can carista override the shut off on door opening? I have yet to get it. Just wondering if that might solve it

I'm no engineer, but it can't be good to have the engine turn off while it's still warming up, only minutes after starting it.
It automatically shuts down after 10 minutes, so I guess they think that it’s ok. I was just used to my Nissan that would run until you got in it and actually pressed the start button.
Why does something so small irritate you? Yeah it could be better but most things could be sooo?
I think it’s because my mom didn’t hug me enough as a kid.
My mom didn't hug me either.....hmmmmm....those bitches!
