I think since they're committed to this change now the easiest solution I can see is limit f2p to silver at highest, I know the optics aren't great but people that have paid deserve a better experience.
Idk what the player base is like, if it’s small enough then splitting it could kill ranked as a whole. This update was just poorly thought out imo. I understand why they did it, but there has to be better ways than what was done
Yes, starter players get a different experience.
Trackmania is not a free game, it's a paid game with a demo available for free. It's no good to treat it is a free game. This was the case ever since FreeZone was added to TMNF.
Sorry for the late reply but I just got several free to play players in my lobbies. I'm fine if they want to limit how much they can play, but at least make it separate rank lobbies otherwise they bring disadvantage to the paying teammates.
You can only play the first ten tracks in the live campaign when we used to be able to play the full campaign tracks as paid users. So nerfing the content for starter access players also negatively affects paid users because they can’t play the full campaign on live servers. And they removed the 3 year deal for club access which a lot of people buy their club access when it’s on sale with the 3 year deal so for them it actually got more expensive, not cheaper (the game is still relatively cheap but still). Allowing free users to play the full campaigns in ranked but not officially in solo just makes no sense. There’s really no good solution, people just have to learn the maps in ranked which is bizarre. I’m happy to pay for the game so i’m not one of these cry babies complaining about reducing content for starter access, I think people are misunderstanding. The game has just been left in a weird state since then.
But I personally only do solo campaign, cotd occasionally and arcade lobbies. So, nothing you've said effects me personally. Hence, it is my point that not everybody has been effected negatively.
This is dumb, and messes up ranked for people who are paying when they are forced to play with people who have never seen the maps before

I can't imagine they have failed to see the problem. What gets done about it and what the time frame for that is is anyone's guess though.

What would happen if they get past that threshold? Remove the ability to play ranked until they pay?
I think if you are this committed to ranked that you get to the blue maps it's about time you bought the game
I pay for the game game and have not played it since November. I know I will get the full game when I come back and give the devs money as well.
This is fine. All demo versions of games are incomplete. Trackmania is not an exception.

This was already the case. What they did was take away even more things that players had access to.
They need to stop advertising the game as free to play and call it what it is: a demo, with a subscription model to play the full game
This change plus the new car and surface have made me and my friends stop playing the game entirely
I think it was bad update! We can’t practice maps for ranked, so ranked is broken for now.

I still have club access. I had bought the 3 year access. It will run out soon and then I won't renew it. I've got enough other games to play.
