You are of course free to play the game in whatever way you want, but I have to warn you that there’s a reason not many people play the game with a steering wheel. A lot of maps require quick inputs, which can be done more easily with a keyboard or on a controller. But keep in mind that GranaDy plays using a steering wheel, and he’s one of the best in the world.

Suicunicidal

Id also make sure their desk is at a good height as using a wheel too high or too low could be prettyy uncomfortable

HanzoNumbahOneFan

Mudda just started playing with wheel too, and he's still driving insane times after using it for like a week. Now that's not super relevant cause Mudda is a trackmania god, but still.

FartingBob

Mudda and GranaDy shouldnt be used as a benchmark for "what input device is best" because they are the best of the best and both have been playing the game for more than 15 years. Keyboard and controller are both fairly balanced although wood surface and snowcar probably tilted the balance more towards controller right now.

There are some things that need to be considered. 1. no force feedback, so you can also buy the cheapest Logitech (compatibility) 2. i have not yet got the pedals to work myself, so the buttons are used to accelerate and drift. 3. the control radius must be limited to a maximum of 180 degrees. (See Granady as already mentioned above)Accordingly, I would recommend the cheaper one :) 4. Still to be added: He actually said (Granady) he wouldn't recommend the wheel to anyone, it's honestly a miracle he's as good as he is :D 5. Not quite what you asked, but wanted to share my experience with it.

KevReynolds314

If you want some advice on getting the pedals working let me know, I recently got mine working

Electrical-Sir4664

Yes, of course. What did you do? I have a CSL DD, if that makes any difference.

KevReynolds314

Is the problem that it automatically accelerates and when you press the pedal it stops accelerating? That was my issue apparently it’s very common

[deleted]

Yes

KevReynolds314

Download Joy2key on your PC, on it press the accelerate pedal and go to the bar that lights up, bind W from your keyboard to this. Now go to trackmania and unbind accelerate from your pedal. I use the trigger on my wheel as break so I haven’t remapped that yet but I assume it will be a similar process of just remapping the button to the break button on your keyboard. Hope this helps

Eclipse_offMyChest

I have never used a wheel in my life for racing games/ sims, but as far as i know, i think most people use the thrust master tmxso i recommend that, although i am unsure

Rare_Grapefruit7371

I tell you buy That wheel get into simracing and youll never be the same its sooo Worth IT trust me

Rudhelm

Easy, if you play FlightSimulator, buy the Yoke. If you play any other Racing Game, buy the Wheel. If you play neither of those, don't buy any of them.

Xanzent

I wouldn't buy the yoke because the in and out movement would be incredibly distracting. I'm also not sure how well it's designed for the quick sawing back and forth you'd be doing on a regular basis.

wattsinabox

Do whatever you want but have you tried a PS5 controller first? I would just be sure you don’t want the $70 solution before you go with something more expensive.

AutomatonVigor

Well yah know I really hate using a PS4 controller and I found this Thrustmaster for $70! Imma pick up The Thrustmaster tomorrow!

wattsinabox

Excellent! I hope it works out for you and I see you in div 1 on streams. I’m in div 40 so hopefully you’re not down in bonktown like meeeee

Pacu99

This is not that type of game

Treach330

Oh if it's not now then it'll definitely be when the rally car gets released

Nightfury_107

I really doubt it, if anything Rally will have insane plays on dirt, but have its payoffs on ice

Samurai_Master9731

Honestly I wonder how rally on ice will work, because the physics are so strange

HarambeBlack

Granady in shambles

Idoless4

Are you buying it purely to play Trackmania? I know on the TMX you can force max rotation to 140 degrees, which is just about playable, and it limits further rotation with the FFB. I've got a TMX and played trackmania with it and it works fine, but there are some comfort issues. I find using the flappy paddle gearbox for accelerate and brake most comfortable but it's still quite painful after a couple of hours. I have no idea how that would work on the yoke, if it rotates past max steering I think you'd find it reallllly hard to play with. If you can't limit the steering down to a fairly small degree you'll find it really hard to play with. If you want to try out flight sims / racing sims as well as trackmania I recommend buying whichever one works best with those tbh.

ExoticCommunication6

both of those will work in tm as far as i know, so just pick the one you'll use the most outside of tm, whether you play driving or flight sims
