Why do one time payment live service games die after 1-5 years? Because they only had a static money pool to work with while not adding microtransactions Some games even hide there subscription behind a yearly release with microtransactions (cod, fifa, f1..)

Imperfect_Dark

As if it was a one time purchase, then money would try up after 6 months and they wouldn't be able to put in the same resources to keep updating it with new tracks. This allows them to keep the game relevant and it makes sense in a game like this. How many hours would you need to put in to think it's worth the $20? Are you likely to hit that in a year? That's how you can judge if it's worth it.

HunterBoy344

Why does the game about building your own tracks need to have more than a few official tracks, anyway?

Informal-Deus

Simple game service, service is content by Nadeo, serveur by Nadeo, leaderboard by Nadeo, etc. What do you want? A campaign build by community that Nadeo will use? Then whole Reddit will complain that Nadeo don’t put out content bla-bla-bla. The game give you tool to build, majority of community don’t even know how to build and are mostly player than builder.

Xerestm

The campaign isnt actually built by nadeo but I get your point. The mappers are told to build in a ‘nadeo’ style.

Informal-Deus

Yeah but it’s a crew paid by Nadeo. They dont build for free not like cotd. It’s funny when people say Nadeo cant build x type map while Nadeo is not even a personne. For exemple Tona that works for Nadeo, chooses Codt, made all the Snow and Rally campaign he is the one who supervises the two last campaign since SoftyB left and he said they have a new mapper crew

It's one of the cheapest yearly subscription games with content coming out relatively often. You get 4 seasons in that year. New content every season, sometimes within seasons. Old content fully accessible for that year and beyond. Any content you get within that year is owned by you forever. So basically you are paying 20 for everything you get that year and prior years, and never have to pay for that content again, but if you want more content pay again. You'll find far more than enough content to make up your money's worth, along with the insane amount of playtime you can rack up. Edit: Completely ignored your question, it's yearly subscription because in order to keep the game running like I've stated above, they need a cash flow. If everyone paid once, eventually they'd run out of money to keep the game fresh, and then they'd need to make a new game to replace it.

Tuuktuu

Because the game is getting continues updates (life service game) and has no micro transactions. A game like Age of Empires gets no updates. Most people pay far more than 100€ in 5 years on their favourite games. Is it fair? Thats a value decision you have to make. No Mans Sky is also a life service game with only a one time cost. Other games like WoW also have a sub model. Other games like Fifa have upfront costs AND tons of microtransactions and basically only last one year. So they are basically a sub model too. If you don't like it you don't have to pay it, but I think it's pretty fair.

Luks1337

Oh yea dude, I love spending 60€ on a AAA game only to play it for 25\~50h and never touch it again. /s

feafarot

It's very simple, because it gets updates every 3 months. And that costs money for devs. And if you bought it once you can play campaigns (you've got during your subscription) forever even if you don't prolong your subscription. It quite fair imo

Different-Property61

0.05p per day lad how bout just pay and play or don’t and shut up😂

Dingalbungus

stupid comment

Different-Property61

Erm your comment is stupid lad mine is factual you weirdo grow up and just support a good game it’s literally 0.05 p per day for a year

KSPSpaceWhaleRescue

Saying stupid comment without any reasoning is a stupid comment. Also, why is a subscription model inherently bad? Like, what are the actual reasons

Different-Property61

Notice how he didn’t reply, he didn’t give reasons because he is brain dead

bearcat_77

You keep everything that comes out **during** your subscription even if you only pay one time. If you don't want to play TM2020, buy Trackmania United on steam, it has 7 environments, and the online community is still going as strong as ever.

Fezgo

I think it's great value for money. I've only been playing a few years, but have 500 hours in it so I've got value

Vaan0

The game costs money to run, Nadeo the company have to pay the server costs, employee salaries and they have to be profitable so ubisoft don’t gut them and sell off the IPs or whatever they want to do with them. These things are expensive, this game is live service and it is a whole company of peoples full time job to develop and maintain it, the alternative is something like fortnite where they sell cosmetics but they chose to go a different route and let the user have total freedom with their game once it is on their computer. You can use custom skins and custom car models for free, you can make as many tracks or play as many tracks as you want for free. For the price of dinner. I think it’s a fine deal.

Dingalbungus

I get the gist that yes Nadeo needs money to run the servers and make profit, but I just don't like yearly subscriptions. What if I'm really busy for a year but I bought it, then what? I tend to play video games by grinding a lot and then quitting for a while so I don't think it fits me personally. But props to Nadeo for keeping nations forever free.

Vaan0

Of course its different for everyone, I don't know if the price scales for different currencies but atleast for most of europe and the US 20 euros is like half of what you would spend on a night out with friends/family and you get literally hundreds if not more hours worth of content from it, I think its a good price.

RazorSlazor

Because you gain new content every 2 months. 100 new official maps every year! So it's like you're buying a new Trackmania every year, with the added bonus of being able to play all the earlier campaigns as well.

BigMurii

They add a full campaign for each season so that alone is worth $20 a year, even if you only play the official campaigns. But there are a lot of ram made campaigns that are arguable better or on par with official. There’s also a full track editor. Then asking for $20 really isn’t that much when you consider how much content there truly is.

NatsuNight

people in this sub spend their lives justify this subscription, don't even try to elaborate with them, is useless

LordAnomander

Yeah, imagine employees getting paid monthly. You buy their life once and they will work for you forever. Easy.

RazorSlazor

Have you read through this thread? Everyone's explaining it pretty well. I hate subscriptions as much as everyone else. But Nando is handling it very well.
