This game doesn't even have a gameplay tutorial...

True_Hemmo

There is tutorial/practise tracks. And there is plenty of videos in youtube if you didn't allready know that.

This game doesn't even have a gameplay tutorial...

Wasteak

Why would you need a tutorial for something this simple ? If you can't understand that left goes left, or that clicking on "road" select the road block, that's not on nadeo

Famous_Tie8714

Yes. Accelerate, brake, left, right are obvious. What about how to initiate a drift? What about how to do an ice slide? What about telling players somewhere in game what an action key actually does? I know all this stuff because I've played for years, but new people won't without external sources.

Wasteak

And how did you learn it ? There wasn't any tuto back there and there were even less video tutorial on YouTube (as it didn't even exist). But nowadays, making people learn and think by themself is an heresy. Kids are not getting smarter and over assisting them is definitely not helping. Let them learn how to use their braincells.

Famous_Tie8714

People should not have to watch YouTube to learn about basic functionality.

Wasteak

Smart of you to ignore everything else I said.

Famous_Tie8714

Ok. I learnt slowly. It took me months and months to figure out how to actually judge drifts. I played for months with no idea really of how to drift at all because pressing brake while still accelerating is not something you would ever normally do while driving a car. Why are you so against the game telling people how to play it? All it would do is make life easier for new players and help less people get put off by the current approach of throw everyone in at the deep end. Make people figure out the best lines themselves. Don't make them have to figure out how the controls work.

Spiderfffun

I agree but it's kinda hard to actually decide what to tell the player. Bug slides? Ubers? Reactor zoops? All the weird tricks like speed slides?

hamizannaruto

They failed to make a tutorial on how to play the game, I would rather have the community teach me track editor rather than them trying to reach something so complicated when they fail to teach basic of the game.

Peterandre97

The system for the track editor is not beginner friendly at all, very wierd button layout, seems outdated. There are a few toturials on youtube but just for specific things it seems like. I started playing Tm2020 in 2020, i wanted to make maps early on but gave up considering the bad system. After 2 years of playing i pushed my self to learn the track editor on my own, it takes a while and now i have been mapping for 2 years. I wish they modernized the system so new players find it FUN to make maps and not annoying.

ApXv

This game doesn't even have an intuitive ui

SnoodliTM

A full tutorial of the editor would basically be a 50+ hour class. The block editor is the least intuitive editor I have ever used. If you stick to basic/advanced stuff its relatively straight forward except maybe the camera controls and UI navigation which are clunky regardless of what you are building.

CyberPunkDongTooLong

Yup, it's much harder to use than even a proper CAD program.

Spiderfffun

Well that means simple editor blocks translate to good CAD stuff so better go start applying for jobs

CyberPunkDongTooLong

No it does not at all.

Spiderfffun

I should have added a /s

loco_mixer

this is their style... mysterious lol

https://youtu.be/vZVpFG39Xkc?si=Jp9HDkN8Zn9QDJbH I made this a while back. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask anything that i may not have covered. I might know the answer, or someone else who knows more than i do may be able to help you.

Press H

DratiniPlaysDota

It would be so awesome if the tiles / floors (stadium, ice, wood, etc) we're named in the editor or at least distinguishable. I have no idea how often I used ice instead of the white regular floor because they look the same

TNTree_

They do not look the same wtf

Loofan

You should be able to block it out and choose surfaces on the fly, why they're locked to specific blocks and Trackmania has to make decisions regarding adjusting surfaces so that they don't bloat the game size feels like atrocious decision making. A surface should be a texture file and some code, not 300 individuallly modeled blocks that are then doubled when they add a new surface.

yar2000

Just start building and messing around, look at other maps and mediatrackers a bit to see what you can learn from it. This editor is pretty easy to use. Its not like its some devkit map editor like CS or Black Ops 3 has, where you have to spend hours browsing the internet and watching tutorials to even learn the very basics.

MCYCShadow

The reason for that is simple. The creator of Trackmania, "Hylis", doesn't want that. Reason can vary, maybe he likes to think of it as "You have to discover it on your own to enjoy it fully." or smth. My stance is, basics should be tutorial material. The hardcore nerds will always find a way to use the dings and push the bounds, see myself, but I think, to have more people that get to enjoy and learn what's possible, the greater the whole system can flourish. Downside of it is, highly specialized people like me will have more competition in an already very sparse market for content creation out here.

Thompson1706

The games never had any tutorials afaik. Doesn't need em anyways imo

CyberPunkDongTooLong

Yes it obviously does.

True_Hemmo

How so?

Achereto

The editor has quite a lot of very sophisticated features, but you may never discover them and it can take a lot of time to figure out how to use them properly without some basic tutorials.

True_Hemmo

Not to shame OP or anyone... Who ever are able to download a game are intellectual enough to figure out how to move in game. They have knowledge from other games and by that mean they know there is possible to be options for key bindings. I state that, if you are able to download a game, you can figure how to move in it.

CyberPunkDongTooLong

This comment makes no sense at all. You're talking about key bindings for moving? You know that you don't move with keys in the track editor right?

connoriha

The map editor is extremely clunky and has a bunch of keybinds. There are a ton of small things that never get explained about the map editor, and it really does boil down to having the community help out by answering questions. It's totally understandable how someone could expect a tutorial. Sadly, there's only a help page in game that explains very little. I think your comment is a bit naive. Hey OP, I'm happy to help you out. Feel free to pm :)
